Ana don't let miss show off get under your skin, all her posh fancy brand new stuff is probably all on tick (credit) anyway haha Grin

HeffalumpTheFlump · 05/09/2013 09:14

Morning :)

natalie - I see your three wees and raise you eight. Nine is my record. I just need sleep!!

pseudo - hope your appointment goes well :)

sparkleigh - completely agree, it's weird she's making a big deal out of it. I've been inundated with offers of baby bits, and none of those people have made themselves out to be mother fricking Theresa!

Thanks for the code pink

Slippysnow · 05/09/2013 09:14

Hi all,
I've been given loads of second hand clothes, blankets and toys by an emigrating friend. She had good taste and bought quality, has saved me loads. However, I'm a bit of a magpie and like to take things sometimes without really thinking if I need or actually like them that much! So have handed down some hand me downs before baby was even here. The other thing I've realised is that due to people washing baby clothes pre baby lots of the clothes haven't even been worn just washed without tags. :) so that's something to think about.

If I could go back in time I wouldn't have bought our Moses basket, they seem ideal for transporting baby around house with you, but as we live in our room (think studio flat ;) ) seems a bit wasteful for the time they actually spend in it. Ah well, they look cute and we may travel and use it.

I have a newbie question. Yesterday I had a pain which Im finding hard to describe. I suppose it felt a little bit like being kicked inside my vagina. (Baby is head down) and I don't think it is this. As I have never felt a contraction I don't know what Braxton h's feel like. Any way the pain took my breath away and happened as I was active. Maybe 10 times across an hour and a half then stopped.
I'm 33 weeks tomorrow. Any ideas?... After a useless explaination

Sparkeleigh · 05/09/2013 09:21

slippy is it kind of a stabby pain? I've been getting pains like the baby is poking sharp little fingers in down there and it makes me wince and dance about to try to shift the position in case it is the baby... No idea what it actually is though!

pink ooh, thanks for the code! I think I might start stocking up on Christmas presents now!

HeffalumpTheFlump · 05/09/2013 09:23

Slippysnow - I get that. I'm going to see the midwife today so will ask her for a proper explanation, but I think it is baby's head bashing against my cervix. It really hurts.

I don't know if everyone is the same, but my braxton hicks are like doing a sit-up without doing it. All across my bump goes all tight and sometimes it can be painful. Like the muscles can't relax if you get me. The cervix pain I get is more like a bruised jabbing feeling. Is yours similar?

I shall report back once I've seen the midwife :)

roofio87 · 05/09/2013 09:43

I've got so many second hand clothes for the baby, im made up about it. it means I've been able to buy some nice bits myself but have so many outfits for when I need extra. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. the nipple cream is a bit odd, I would have said fine until someone mentioned about germs, I would like want to know how long it had been open!!

Slippysnow · 05/09/2013 09:55

Yes, I've think you've both got the same as me. A midwife explanation would be great. Sharp jabbing pain is a good explanation

PseudoBadger · 05/09/2013 09:59

Another scorcher here today. Enough already weather!!

Pinkforboys · 05/09/2013 10:09

Pseudo good luck with the consultant today.

I've just had a looooong-winded chat with the mw [yawn] who (aside from bitching about GPs passing the buck) told me to do the wee test again at the GPs tomorrow morning. Phew. I'm going to stamp my feet if anyone suggests doing the GTT again. Interestingly a friend just warned me that the Whittington are hot on Diabetes and have been known to over-react with their diagnosis and treatments.

Ana to add my 2p, I'd say it's okay to use the cream on the basis that if you'd had it leftover would you use it? But it sounds like you'll think of her patronising comment every time you use it, so for that it might be worth chucking it.

Heffa's description of BH is perfect. All tight and makes you stop in your tracks. It's been a while since I had a contraction but I seem to remember them as very different- far more like someone wringing out washing (?!)

Pinkforboys · 05/09/2013 10:10

Nat I had the same dilemma. I'm hoping to re-use cot mattress as it's been wrapped in plastic, but I guess I'll beat it out a fair bit. I think I'll get a new mattress for the moses basket though as it's far cheaper, and no idea where I stored it. DS slept in his moses a lot- I had it next to the bed as well as moving him around the house in it to sleep.

Sparkeleigh · 05/09/2013 10:19

Oh, totally irrelevant really, but I just remembered - my midwife said that you can get someone to ring up your doctor after you've given birth and ask them to prescribe the lanisoh (?) nipple cream for you.

Prescriptions are free in NI, though I'm not sure about the rest of the UK so that's a good money saver if it's expensive. Though whether it's worth the hassle of someone having to go and collect it rather than having it handy is a moot point..

Sparkeleigh · 05/09/2013 10:29

oh God, now I'm paranoid I'm being patronising too, I just figured that's what I'd do to save some money since we live close to the Dr's goes away and hides

Tarlia · 05/09/2013 10:37

Can't believe the amount of posts I've just caught up on!!

Nat poor DH, I hope you run him a hot bath, gave him a back and foot rub :D. Still, great he wasn't so bad as to make you do the heavy work! It's hard to have sympathy when you are a house, isn't it!?

Cot mattress, I've bought a new one as its one part of SIDS I can control, which freaks me out a bit. I'm sure out old mattress would be perfectly fine, but I'm going to use it to make a cosy book corner instead.

ana I'd bin the cream for the pure fact that you'll think about it each time you see it and you need minimal thoughts like that PP.

Good luck at the Dr today, Badger. Hope that bp, urine and bloods are behaving. You don't have any symptoms yet do you, eg headache etc?

Second hand stuff, I was very anti before having kids and still only buy certain things ie really nice things that I wouldn't have spent the money on new. I really don't think there is anything wrong with reusing at all so long as it can have a good wash.

Can't remember anything else ha.

HotSoupDumpling · 05/09/2013 10:47

Ohhh rubbbbbiish.......... Just realised I'm supposed to start perineal massage Confused

Natalieand · 05/09/2013 10:51

How r u feeling tarlia?

Isit 7 o clock yet? I'm making spag bowl for dinner and I really wanna eat it right now!!!! I'm 34+3 but for the last week or so I literally want to stuff my face with food ....

Its another scorcher here today too pseudo dd is pleased as she has a meltdown at getting dressed time if she can't wear a skirt or dress. I'm down to two pairs of maternity trousers now and about 3 tops that r any good so I'm limited on what I can wear now as well

I think today is the day I will pack my hospital bag, so glad I print screened those hospital bag lists u all suggested so I don't have to trawl back through the threads. Then I will no what I still need to get.... Now I just need to get myself off the sofa

Tarlia · 05/09/2013 11:08

Nat I sooo want to say, great thanks, but honestly, awful. Pre eclampsia sucks, my head feels like it could explode. How are you doing?

Good luck packing that bag, mine is stupidly still in piles which was made worse by DP packing an Emergency bag last week.

Natalieand · 05/09/2013 11:11

Blimey tarlia u best get bag packing, especially in your condition. R u allowed to take anything stronger than parcetamol for your headache as its pre eclampsia related?

PseudoBadger · 05/09/2013 11:12

Oh gosh Tarlia sorry you feel so bad :( How often do you need to be checked out?
I've got pretty bad swelling and the old flashing visual thing, but nothing else so far.

snowgal · 05/09/2013 11:22

On the topic of second-hand baby stuff, I'd recommend taking anything and everything people offer. We barely bought anything for DS as a number of our friends were moving on from the newborn stage. Some of it proved to be of no use but it did mean that we could assess what we actually needed and focus our investment there rather than buying everything it mentions on those "must have" baby lists. Like I say we ended up just chucking a lot of it up in the loft and never touching it but it was great when I thought "I really could do with..." I'd double check we didn't have it first! Only things I wouldn't take second-hand were sheets, mattresses etc, and I'd only take car seats from people I knew really well, so I'd know how they've been treated. It did mean that we didn't have to invest in big ticket items like pram/pushchair/travel system and could instead put all our money into the bike trailer we really wanted - I'm certainly not too proud to use a 10 year old pram which was my niece/nephews, if it saves me money in the long run.

This time around we have decided to charity shop/hand on anything we don't find useful straight away, then we'll assess stuff at a later stage (and once we've made a considered decision if this is definitely the last one) and hand on.

Rough night last night, DS had a late nap and as a result wasn't the slightest bit sleepy (he's never been a big sleeper - fx this next one is) DP and I were still up with him at 11.30pm and somehow both feel asleep on his bedroom floor. Woke up at 12.45, got to bed then was plagued with cramp all night - arrgghhh!

Now really intrigued by the Snuz Pod, was planning on hiring a Bednest from NCT but they seem an awful lot cheaper and more attractive - does anyone know of anyone who has used one? DS ended up co-sleeping with me a lot and I'm keen to get more sleep this time around.

Another question for those with toddlers, what are you planning to do about baby monitors? We have an Angelcare monitor which has been brilliant and we still use it for DS overnight so we can hear him when he inevitably wakes in the night plus the night light is just light enough to find missing dummies etc., so I'd like for him to keep using it. However the Angelcare monitor has the movement sensor which was great for teeny ones

snowgal · 05/09/2013 11:33

Sorry just noticed that the Snuzpod isn't available until 31st Oct, so obviously no-one is going to have experience of using it - disregard my last question!

Sad for those really not feeling well, the last few weeks of pregnancy shouldn't be like that - very unfair

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 05/09/2013 11:53

Hello all, sympathies to everyone feeling rotten. Tarlia your headache sounds utterly horrid.

Very boring question but, if you've got (or are going to get) the bednest which sheets are you buying?

I've ordered a few directly from the NCT website but they are on the expensive side (and experience tells me it's good to have a plentiful supply!). Just struggling to get my head around the bednest mattress dimensions.

Natalieand · 05/09/2013 12:02

snow I have fisher price lights monitor here perfect for what u want in ds room. Enough light to find dummies etc but not disturb sleep, leaving your angel care one free for the new baby.
I don't use a monitor for dd anymore so I will just use this one for when I need one for the new baby

Warlin · 05/09/2013 12:19

Hi all

Gosh you ladies are hard to keep up with...I'm assuming tht those still in work are a tad distracted?!

Good luck today pseudo

ana how rude of that girl in work!

I'm washing sheets for Moses basket and cot today. Ds grew out of his Moses basket at about 9 weeks but used it loads up until then. We bought a stand for upstairs and downstairs so we could just carry it downstairs. He had most of his naps in it. Going to get the last few things for my hospital bag from tesco today.

Sorry to those who aren't feeling well. Sending get well vibes Thanks

snowgal · 05/09/2013 12:24

natalie I think you're right we probably need to move DS on the baby monitor, only problem is he's a way down the corridor from us so by the time we've heard him he's really ramped up the crying and is wide awake. Will have a look for a night light for him

SeriousStuff · 05/09/2013 12:29

Ladies, I've reached a new low...listening to the radio and 'Slipping through my fingers' ABBA just came on and I'm bawling my eyes out. My daughter hasn't even been born yet and this song is really upsetting me!
