Oh God 5am you've really freaked me out now. I thought the NT was just looking for Downs! If I knew if could lead to other conditions being spotted early for which you would need a managed birth, I might have made the decision to have it. Would things like heart conditions and neural tube defects be spotted at a later date though? To be honest, what swung it for me was that I would have to wait another 3 weeks to get the NT screening.

I'm in total denial that I'm even having a baby still, these decisions seem so abstract.

PramQueen1971 · 27/08/2013 11:20

Oh, Lyra, what a scary night. Do fibroids cause cramps? I knew they caused bleeding (lots and lots in some unfortunate cases). Will you ring your midwife to mention everything? Pliz?

Kat, wishing you the very best and happiest result for your scan. Pirates, I'm so glad you feel better.

I tried to read Harold and it was interminably dull so I chucked it.

For those of you who have seen my horrific roots on fb (the ones on my head, not my ancestral ones) will be pleased to know I am going brunette today and pixie-short. Bye-bye platinum blonde...

Rockchick1984 · 27/08/2013 12:36

Whispers I'm on my way to go looking at prams... I need to know if a buggy board will completely piss me off and unfortunately looking on google doesn't answer that!

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 13:01

Finally got the doppler and easily located a good strong heartbeat Grin So it seems all is well in there. I'll put the bleeding down to the fibroids for now but will call the midwife if it happens again, ok Prammy? Wink

Ds2 was delighted to hear his sibling's heartbeat but DS1 not bothered.

Had a row with DP and he's gone off to work in a huff. Sigh.

PiratesMam · 27/08/2013 13:03

rock DS really liked our buggy board. Will be using it again for DD. I do recommend them, although you will find yourself sticking your bum out to accommodate it in front of you!

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 13:05

Pram, a demand pics on fb as soon as possible.

Rock, I found a buggy board could get in the way of walking but it was a necessity. Most children under four will need to rest from time to time while out and about and if there's no seat or buggy board you'll end up carrying them while pushing a buggy/carrying shopping or dealing with them sitting on the pavement refusing to go any further because they're too tired. Get one that folds up when not in use.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 13:08

By the way, I didn't know anything about Edwards or Patau's syndromes so last night I googled. NOT to be recommended. The pictures of babies with Patau's especially are horrific. Babies with one cyclops eye, babies with no face except a deformed mouth. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

babybear9 · 27/08/2013 13:18

Scanee checking in! All good - baby wiggling loads and spent a while rolling over to move it to the right position to be measured. Without me asking the sonographer said at the end, 'ok so all good and from the scan, the baby doesnt have downs'!
had to wait almost 2 hours then for blood tests as they were short staffed!
Moved my EDD forward by 2 days so Im now March 4th and exactly 13wks today. Yay!

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 13:28

Great news, babybear Grin

NoMaybeAboutIt · 27/08/2013 13:35

Great news Baby!

5amisnotmorning · 27/08/2013 13:37

I am sorry - I didn't mean to freak anyone out!

Most things will be picked up at the 20 week abnormalities scan however depending on how good the equipment and sonographer is and from my experience, some things like potential heart problems might not be unless specifically being looked for by a specialist.

For the vast majority of people, it's not a concern though.

April13 · 27/08/2013 13:39

Great news Baby and Lyra

Having a stinker of a day...already took myself to the disabled toilet to have a good greet. I should have stayed in bed.....

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 13:47

5am, not your fault. I'm glad I'm having every test possible because I now know there are some conditions where a termination would be the only option for me. It would be so devastating to give birth to a hideously deformed baby with no chance of survival without some prior warning.

SoSurprised · 27/08/2013 13:57

Baby great news!

I finally told work today. Boss wasn't as shocked as I thought he might be and seemed quite supportive after the initial disbelief look. So glad I have finally told them. Also got the afternoon off for the scan next week. Still seems ages away though.

I have got a slight bump now which I can't suck in anymore. :)

firsttimekat · 27/08/2013 14:55

So this is me ducking out... Little bean had stopped growing...

...I'm all a bit of a mess and not sure how I'm going to get through the next few days...

Good luck to everyone and I'll be thinking of you in march.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/08/2013 14:58
