Grr flyer I would be cross too, especially when i often lay in bed thinking sbout breakfast for a couple of hours before it is reasonable to get up. Hope your day improves from here.

My SIL had those blankets with the flaps and found them useful for easily opening when coming in from the cold eg into shops but I hadn't seen where to b them before thanks for the link.

HotSoupDumpling · 22/08/2013 09:39

Warlin, glad you are feeling better. I'm also have down episodes where I feel very tired and hormonal.

comtesse - your MIL sounds hilarious! She'll just have to suck up whatever happens.

jelly, definitely have an appointment if it makes you feel less anxious. You can really push for one, and if you have my level of scruples (quite low when it comes to this baby) then you could even mention movement is slightly reduced and that you just want some peace of mind...

bowful, what a lovely story about your DS. We've never had boys in our family so it's nice to imagine what it would be like if this LO is a boy.

I have splashed out on a (slightly reduced in the sale) merino swaddle. Probably baby will hate it and it will never be used...

Shootingstarsandcomets · 22/08/2013 09:45

hotsoup we have merino swaddled and merino sleep gowns - ds loved the swaddle and if you bought the merino kids one it has a useful hole in the back so can be used for car seat too. I know they are expensive but I think they are worth it.
We also used a morck bridget much better than blankets I thought which got kicked off constantly.
I'm moaning too warlin and no idea how I'm going to get through the next 8 weeks. Slept badly again, I must have been out of bed 5 times between midnight and 1am re-settling ds. I think he's teething again. I am just so exhausted.
flyer your breakfast sounds delicious. I wish I had the time to make breakfasts like that. I have to be so careful what heat now as ds is becoming increasingly insistent on eating my food. We both have weetabix for breakfast but he refuses to eat his from his bowl but will happily have mine and drink the milk Confused think he just wants to be a grown up!

roofio87 · 22/08/2013 10:02

interesting about renting prices, we rent a 3 bed semi for £650 pm. its in a really good area, but not the best and that seems to be the going rate for similar properties. we couldn't afford more than thay!!

Flyer747 · 22/08/2013 10:26

Bowl how sweet your little boy, that's very cute.

Christmas will be upon us before we know it I guess. Not sure what to do here, first grandchild on both sides, both really want lots of involvement, not sure who to go to on Xmas day.....How do you choose? No way could I have both families to ours as it would mean cooking for 11 people (ain't gona happen) Any suggestions on what you ladies do or intend to do.....

claphammama · 22/08/2013 10:39

sorry to hear so many of you had really bad nights... I still remember the sleeping on the floor / trying to sleep on the floor nights when DS was younger. But I wasn't pregnant then. It must be so exhausting for you in addition to the usual pregnancy aches and discomforts. Hope your day is OK and you manage to get some rest Flowers

bowlfull this is adorable... how old is he? I love when they are like this - it makes all the sleepless nights worthwhile and forgotten

flyer I would be well peed off too... make him take you out for a lovely dinner this weekend to compensate for it.

hotsoup I also bought a merino swaddle in sales for the baby. I never swaddled DS but my pregnant friend was getting one for hers, saying how amazing they are for autumn / winter so I got one too and it was only reasonable 20 quid. Hope he likes it!

about people commenting on bump size - I usually don't mind and just ignore it but went shopping yesterday and the lady at the till asked me how long I had left (almost 9 weeks) and then started saying "oh it's big...", and then "it's very big" and then "still a long time to go, it's very big..." and then... you get it. I don't mind when it's one stupid comment but she went on and on and on...

pink what is your trained profession? (only if you don't mind me asking! ignore me if it's too nosey!) I've been doing corporate communications / PR for years and am also planning to change my career completely after this baby. I'm 38 so similar age to you and yes, I also find it scary at this age... I know we still have time but it feels like there is less room for mistakes and trials if you see what I mean?

rents where we are are about 2.7-3K for 3 beds... and can be more if it's a house with a garden... blame the school catchment area... London really can be crazy. pseudo I agree with you - would be good to be able to leave London... especially once you have children...

OrangeBlossom2 · 22/08/2013 11:04

Flyer. We have been to DHs parents for Christmas for the last 7 years and always visit my family around Christmas time on day trips partly because my mums house is too small for us to stay overnight but mainly because she is happy to see us whenever and DHs mum is much more emotional about it. She was very upset we weren't there last year (our honeymoon!) and they bought their new house with Christmas in mind - far more bedrooms than they need for the (not yet conceived!) grandchildren to all stay at once and a double height wide entrance hall for a big Christmas tree.

Eventually I would like to be at home on our own as I dont find it very relaxing and never feel like I have had a break over christmas. Maybe next year. For this year I imagine I will be sitting feeding most of the time so probably a good idea to have someone else do the food anyway and I will have an excuse not to help. It is also I lovely Cotswold countryside which will be nice for our little one to visit when it is a bit older.

Could you do Christmas Eve or Boxing Day at one family and Christmas Day at another? And alternate that next year?

roofio87 · 22/08/2013 11:14

we did xmas at dp's parents last year so im very excited that this is the turn for going to my parents!! pil don't mind as they live round the corner but my parents are 150 miles away so pil will have lots more grandchild time in general!! I LOVE xmas with my family, my parents own a b&b that they shut over xmas so we all get a room and all three of us children and all partners and grandchildren will be there this year!!!

Flyer747 · 22/08/2013 11:20

The problem is both dp and I are close to our parents. My mum is usually very cool and never makes a fuss where I go, as is his mum too. I just feel guilty on which ever misses out. My family is much smaller (mum, dad, sister and nana) where as dp has 3 brothers and a sister plus his grandad, so I always feel a bit tight on my mum as we have a small family compared to his, however his sister will be away travelling in south america this xmas and his eldest brother (the bagel thief) will be back in Shanghai where he works. My goodness i'm getting my knickers in a twist over something so small......I asked dp the other week and he just said "we will cross the bridge when we come to it" grrrrr men!

PseudoBadger · 22/08/2013 11:22

Well Flyer as mentioned before we live with my parents. They had ds's first Christmas (he was 11 months) and last year we went to DP's mum in N Ireland. I think we'll just carry on alternating and when we eventually get somewhere to live DP's mum can come and stay with us and we can perhaps all go to my parents or something like that.
It was quite funny as my parents thought they got the best deal as they got ds's first Christmas, but DP's mum thought she got the best deal as DS was older when we went for Christmas. Win win :o

PseudoBadger · 22/08/2013 11:24

I should say I'm an only child and I had never spent Christmas away from my parents before last year. It was just the 2 of them on Christmas Day :(
And I was sad anyway having just had a miscarriage. A bad Christmas really, but DS enjoyed it.

claphammama · 22/08/2013 11:24

haha flyer this is one of my DP's favourite phrases! It winds me up so much!!

We are staying at home this Christmas and DP's mum will come to visit as she is on her own and he is the only child. I can't believe we are already talking / thinking about Christmas.... I must say I don't even think beyond October right now!

claphammama · 22/08/2013 11:26

crosspost - this christmas will be amazing pseudo!

cazboldy · 22/08/2013 11:30

will catch up in a bit but just want to boast to someone about my ds1 - he just has his gcse results, and has done well enough to get into the sixth form he wants to go to Smile

he got 1 A, 5 B's and 2 C's and 2 D's.

Flyer747 · 22/08/2013 11:43

Pseudo, this Xmas will def make up for last years. :-)

Caz congratulations on your sons GCSE results I bet you are very proud.

Clapham, that's just one of many favourite lines.....They get on my wick somewhat :-)

Orange your mil house in the cotswolds sounds lovely.

I presume my baby is breech at the moment, as all i can feel is this really hard pressure and hard thing (maybe a head??) at the very top of my bump. This just a random guess though.

I'm bored in work hence lots of posting.

Bravissimo bra fitter yesterday told me i'm having a girl (obviously psychic) as i'm carrying very high...I actually look like a buddha when naked, my boobs rest on my fat bump haha.

OrangeBlossom2 · 22/08/2013 11:48

Might be a bum flyer? I can't usually tell what bumps are what, just hope I am not poking my baby in the face too much! Did you get to work on time?

GTbaby · 22/08/2013 11:49

its my turn to do xmas dinner this year Shock with a new born and a toddler! WTF

Since I've joined the family the sister in laws take it in turns to host at their house. DH has two brothers, so we alternate between the 3 homes.
so there are 8 of us plus 7 kids this year.

was planning on going to the library today, but its drizzly out and i am looking after nephews and they have no water proofs and i don't want to go out in the rain

regarding BF and food you eat, on my post natal thread there are alot of babies who are lactose intolerant, so mummies have had to cut out all dairy [others have cut out wheat and eggs]. worth knowing incase you have issues later

cazboldy · 22/08/2013 11:51

so sorry some of you are struggling, I find it hard to get back to sleep if something wakes me, so feel for you ladies with littler ones that aren't sleeping through consistently. Also have propped myself up with an extra pillow to ward off the dreaded heart burn.

I swing between wanting baby to hurry up and be here, and then back to thinking how much sorting out I want to get done around the house before he/she arrives!

We always stay here, just us at christmas, as dh always works (the cows still need milking!) and then either my family come here or I take the dc to theirs for a bit on boxing day.

I think it's nice to be at home, and the dc want to play with their new stuff etc.

Re rent prices 700 - 800 round here for a 3 bed, but strangely if you go bigger than that it's not much more, ie 850 for a 4 bed, 900 5 bed.....when we were looking to rent could have rented a 6 bed with 5 stables and 3 acres of land for 1100!

We live in a tied cottage though, rent free, council tax and water rates free...... which makes up for dh's lowish wages. but does mean if he was to change jobs we would have to move.

roofio87 · 22/08/2013 12:05

caz well done to your ds!!
flyer mw tells me that the big lump at top if my belly is bum, wouldn't have a clue otherwise though!!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 12:05

Brilliant news Cazboldy - I bet you are feeling so proud of Master Caz today! Are you going to do anything to celebrate? Special meal or a cake?

I'm pretty certain that we will be spending Christmas at home this year. We've done all sorts of arrangements in the past (alternating between families, pre-Christmas trips and New Year visits etc) but this year I think the logistics are just too complicated.

To be honest, I don't know when any of our family will actually get to meet this baby. Both families are rarely prepared to visit us Sad and - given the distance - we can only really visit in school holidays. October half-term is a definite no-no, Christmas isn't on the cards and for various reasons February half-term doesn't look possible either. An Easter visit looks most likely!

claphammama · 22/08/2013 12:10

OMG flyer, I'm in a boring meeting (obviously paying full attention) and just burst out laughing imagining you Buddha like in bed! haha. Desperately trying to look and act professional now... as I furiously take notes on my laptop chat on MN

that's fantastic news caz! you must be so proud Grin And yes, I guess not everyone could invite your big family for Christmas! I love staying at home - DP makes amazing Christmas dinners, I can just wake up in the morning and not have to rush anywhere and I am always unhealthily attached to my own Christmas tree (this is where I always put most of my Christmas energy)

flyer where do you feel the kicks? I agree with orange could be the bump. Don't think you can feel the head so well... are you being kicked down below or to the sides?

Flyer747 · 22/08/2013 12:10

Yeah maybe Orange, same here I cannot make out what's what with the pokes, pressure, It feels like it's trying to break out of my tummy though.

I was an hour late orange, my boss is off though, hence why i'm at work on the board (when she is in i have to abstain from mumsnet and try to be preofessional)

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 12:12

Caz - I'm currently sleeping propped up on three pillows and a rolled up single duvet! - I have to be pretty much vertical or my heartburn is horrific. I'm thinking of ditching bed entirely and just sleeping in an armchair.

The only thing that is stopping me is that I'd have to keep trekking up and down to the loo (waking up the whole household) rather than just popping along the hall.

roofio87 · 22/08/2013 12:16

for those with heartburn, again I can't recomend Omprezole enough! I got it from gp, one tablet a day and no more heart burn. mine was so bad before I was being sick! ! its sooooo much better now!Smile

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 22/08/2013 12:19

Clapham - a woman after my own heart - DP always cooks our Christmas meal when we are home (he took over when DD was 7 days old and I wasn't up for anything other than cuddling her) and I would willingly sacrifice the rest of Christmas as long as I could keep my beloved Christmas tree.
