I totally understand how everyone feels re money worries... Snap. I am the sole earner / breadwinner, and I haven't been in my job long enough to get anything other than stat may pay (tbh, I love my work but they are shit on this ... You have to be there three years and then it's not great and you pay it back if you don't go back! My old firm, shitters in many ways, had a great policy - one year to qualify and then full pay for six months, half pay fit six months, with no obligation to repay.... They did get blood for their money in terms if hours though... 10pm was standard to finish, early hours not unheard of...). Anyway, although DH is doing what he can (rugby coaching, supply teaching, setting up a new online business), it means we will be entirely living off our savings (about £25k), which will be wiped. We both feel its really important for me to have 10 months or so, mainly as we know that's the earliest I can wean them off breast milk enough to go a whole day without me.... Gulp, gulp, gulp. Tbh, I get teary if I think about it... So I don't.

Up thread there was chat about gaps between siblings etc. we would probably have planned a gap of 5 years or so (lots of reasons), but as we know, life has a funny way of doing its own thing... So here we are hopefully getting two more after just under 3 years!!!!

All ok otherwise here, except exhausted! 34+4 now, so it's ticking along....

JellyCurls · 21/08/2013 19:46

This talk of money is making me think I need to get more organised. DH is a stay at home dad so no one will be earning when I'm off unless he can go back. Not stressing tonight, as had bad mw appointment.

34 weeks and have bad cramps, discharge and low bump. Mw checked and I have protein in urine but no high blood pressure. She never palated me as I was sore but has said head down and free but killer was not being seen now til I'm 38 weeks! I honestly thought I would get seen fortnightly from now in but no 38wks then 41wks. And if I go over dates they no longer do sweeps just leave you till 40+12 days then take you in for an induction

Feel slightly miffed with health board just now, sorry for many post

JellyCurls · 21/08/2013 19:46

Moany not many

legallyblond · 21/08/2013 19:52

Sorry your appointment was crap Jelly. Are you worried about early labour? Or more generally, uti etch? If you can face it, I would call labour ward tomorrow and flag up your concerns and push to be seen again by another midwife and/or dr... Uphill bloody battle sometimes with NHS...

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 21/08/2013 20:04

Oh Jelly that sounds rubbish!

Is that the standard appointment regime for non-first timers? I'd assumed I'd be seen fortnightly from 34 weeks

Wickedgirl · 21/08/2013 20:26

Jelly.......I have my next appointment at 34 weeks (at gp surgery)and then I will have one at 36 weeks with the midwives at the birthing centre. If you are concerned, book yourself in with an extra appointment. I did that last time and although the midwife wasn't happy, I told her that I needed to be seen for my peace of mind

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 21/08/2013 20:49

Ahhhhhhhhh! I have just got home from work (been going like the clappers since 9am :() to find DH on the phone to his mother. He was getting more and more heated and it soon became clear why - MIL was asking whether she could leave her motorbike crash helmet here on my due date. Not necessarily a problem you might think, except that, when DH suggested that she might also need a back up plan because we might be in hospital, you know, having a baby, she accused him of being unhelpful Hmm.

He tried to explain that even if we're here for her to drop it off, we might be otherwise engaged when she tried to pick up, but that didnt seem to compute. The reason for her wanting to drop it off was so that she doesn't have to carry it with her when she wanders round the shops, but I don't know what she thinks the other people with crash helmets do Hmm

JellyCurls · 21/08/2013 20:49

legally not worried about early labour as when I was in hospital last week they checked and my cervix was closed. I am just a bit put out as I feel rubbish, getting next to no movements and am being fobbed off with come back in four weeks. She did say if I was an addict or a young mum I would be seen in 2 weeks. My friend is due same day as me and has her next appointment is in 3 weeks with same mw. Seems they make up rules as they go along.

Moan over, as DH said to me "if they were worried they would see you sooner"

Shootingstarsandcomets · 21/08/2013 20:52

Agree with wicked jelly just make an appt if you're worried. It's weird the second time and having hardly any appts. My midwife does always say I can ring anytime if I feel the need.
I know its been said before but I am so so sick of the comments of how big I am. Just been for a bikini wax, I have them every month with the same girl and she said 'oh you've got bigger!' What a moron- of course I had in growing a bloody baby. And a woman in a shop today was shocked at how long I still had left and said unhelpfuly that it will probably be a big baby. I just feel its so rude. I don't walk up to strangers in the street and comment on how they look so why suddenly because I'm pregnant does it make people feel as if they can make rude comments about my size.
There we go rant over

Natalieand · 21/08/2013 21:13

Evening ladies, will try and respond to everything but I can't remember everything .

jelly sorry your appt was disappointing and if u feel u need an extra appt then def ring up and try and get one xx

Financially when baby arrives we will be the same as dh works (self employed) I'm a SAHM so we will probly get slightly increased tax credits I would have thought other than that it will be the same as we are now. Just before I fell pregnsnt I had applied to go back to work with the nhs as I was just beginning to feel ready from having dd lol.

shooting your little comment made me chuckle of course I'm getting bigger I'm growing a bloody baby lol

comtesse she's planning a shopping trip a little in advance isn't she? Lol id just say yes then she'll be screwed when your not there cos your in labour and then she won't have a choice but to find a plan b lol

Snow suits- I haven't seen any in the shops that take my fancy as yet and I keep debating whether or not too buy 0-3 but like someone else said sometimes October can be relatively mild, I've got a small coat for baby in new born size for now for coming home from hosp and then think ill just decide from then based on how big/small he is.

Dd's birthday is nov 1st so dh and I have started buying presents now and then will decide what to give her for her birthday and what to hold back towards her Xmas goodies.

Talking of Xmas will anyone else be buying the baby presents? I'm due on the 14th so if 2 weeks late baby could only be 8 weeks old but if born at 37 weeks would be more like 12 weeks at Xmas and I'm not sure if it would mean either rediculous to buy him presents or mean to leave him out? If that makes sense

Excellent that u got your c sec date text and hopefully u get yours this week MoN xx

warlin sorry your feeling emotional. Flowers for u xx

Can't remember who said about the last few weeks going slow but I'm 32+2 and I also feel like since I hit 30 weeks its dragged so bad I hope the pace picks up again soon

Flea treatment done on the house today the guy that done it says we can't have a major problem or he would have seen some especially seen as dh and I haven't seen any either just been bitten and seen them on the cat so that's done now just I can't Hoover for 21 days which is going to be horrendous with a 2 year old to share the house with and a 24 year old male which is even worse lol

OrangeBlossom2 · 21/08/2013 21:24

Oh I hadn't thought of buying baby a Christmas present Natalie. I think he/she will get enough from other relatives but I might be tempted by something small once it is here.

roofio87 · 21/08/2013 21:26

I'll defo be buying baby a little token gift from us, but not going ott as I'm sure he'll get lots anyway!!

Haylebop12 · 21/08/2013 21:27

nat doubt the baby will be getting Xmas pressies from us this year although I know family will. I just don't see the point! Dd's 5th birthday is 5 weeks after Xmas, shes already talking about a party and although I don't lose too much money being on mat pay (as I'm only pt anyway) I just can't justify it! He won't have a clue!

Haylebop12 · 21/08/2013 21:29

Saying that I will end buying something... Probably something practical and needed like a walker?!

Iheartcrunchiebars · 21/08/2013 21:32

No christmas presents from us (I'm too mean) just seems a bit pointless. I have just been given a load of clothes from my cousin including a festive baby grow and a christmas pudding hat. So cute!!!

Natalieand · 21/08/2013 21:33

Ooo a walker is a good idea hayle although I had a walker for dd I it was like brand new when I regretfully sold it on as she rarely ever used it cos she was sitting up at 4 months and crawling just short of 7 months so liked to be on the move.

Also I love Lamaze toys so will probly get him some of them I think

I'm sure dd will open all of baby's presents for him anyway!

GTbaby · 21/08/2013 21:42

Exhausted! Lunch with friends. Popped in to see cousin. Then dinner at mums. Lo was enjoying all the attention.

Lots discussed today.

Snow suits. Lo was born mid October I knew I would be home for first 5weeks so thought I'd wait to see how big he was. Glad I didn't buy one as would never have used it. Lo was given one as Xmas gift which was used once. However I did most my traveling in car, where I used a jacket and blanket. And most our shopping was in centres and not high streets.
Either way I think new born in October is not needed. Actually I remember going to my mums 2nd week of nov and it was lovely out.

Also lo only wore newborn clothes for 2weeks. He was 7.5lbs and 50cm when born. So quite average. Also a some clothes come up smaller. Ie we bought a "up to 10lbs" body suit which didn't fit lo at 1day old.

Money wise. 2nd year of maternity will be tough. Teachers mL is not great Hmm but I know I'm luckier then some ppl out there.
We coped this year because I had saved a lot pre preg which I used as my spending money (dh paid for everything else). This year I have a lil bit saved, but I will have to be careful where I spend it to mk it last as long as possible. Sad which will be very hard.
Also we live with PIL so we make some savings there. We do contribute to the house , however not as much as if we lived alone.

Our 11month age gap is going to be so tough. And I know in a few months I will be complaining to you all. But ATM I'm thinking it will be good.

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 21/08/2013 21:44

Nat there are no bounds to MIL's enthusiasm for shopping for hideously ugly bargains in charity shops Hmm

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 21/08/2013 21:55

Baby will definitely have to have a stocking or DD will wonder why Father Christmas hasn't brought him/her anything.

I will just fill it with stuff that's needed anyway though a (clothes etc) and a token toy or two.

There is the odd thing I did with DD - like having a special first Christmas bauble made and silver cufflinks for DP with her fingerprints on - that I'll have to do again to avoid future accusations of favouritism!

Nat - it was me that mentioned time going slowly....honestly it's driving me mad..Perhaps it's to do with conceiving in January - I just keep thinking "I've been pregnant all year and still 7 more weeks to go."

Natalieand · 21/08/2013 22:00

bridget when is your due date? I feel like weeks 25-30 went pretty quick and then since then it feels like the last stretch is gunna be the worst I think its cos everyone is suffering that bit more with aches pains heartburn sleepless nights tiredness etc. 40 weeks seems forever away :'(

TheFalconsmistress · 21/08/2013 22:04

Hope to sleep better tonight, that is all...

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 21/08/2013 23:14

Hope you sleep well Falcon x

Nat my due date is 7th Oct - yep, the extra aches, pains and burning heartburn is definitely making the last stretch challenging and feel sooooo very long.

Natalieand · 21/08/2013 23:14

Here here falcon I forgot how much being pregnant hurts. I got off lightly this time compared to dd's pregnancy up until now :-(

Anyway here's to a good nights sleep Wine xx

GTbaby · 22/08/2013 01:10

Oh yes Xmas gifts. Lo had a stocking last year. He got two books. A rattle and a baby grow. More of a token rather then big.
Bump will get the same this year.

chickieno1 · 22/08/2013 02:13

Hope you feel better tomorrow warlin. I'm also feeling a bit down and stressing about everything. Ds, how I'll cope with new baby, finances, career issues and where we ll be long term. I feel on the verge of tears all the time :(. Also feel like I can't talk to anyone cos it might sound like I'm ungrateful. Hopefully it's just hormones anda lot of changes in the last year :(

I'm going to wait to see how big baby is before get snowsuit. As we re in Canada I ll definitely need one. Might end up going for second hand/nearly new one as that's what people tend to do here as snow gear s very expensive.

What's a morcck blanket bridget

Well done orange on your nesting and cooking. Will cook a bit closer to the date as we don't have a very big freezer. Also I have to remind myself of the foods that aren't great for baby when bf. things like onions, garlic, beans, broccoli, citrus fruit I think can cause gas or be harsh or even make breast milk taste funny. I think you can introduce them later but need to check.

Went to ikea today and got cot, mattress, sheets, towels, drawers for baby so that's a start. Need to decide on Moses basket. Don't think we got much use out of it with ds.

Will probably get a small book or rattle for the baby for Christmas. Ds was 4 months old his first Xmas and I had a 20 quid budget. Dh on the other hand insisted on buying a new jumperoo!! He won't be making that mistake again :)

jelly I would book an appt for two weeks time. If you're not happy and would like to be seen sooner that is your right!!

falcon sleep well
