ELM · 25/07/2006 12:13

Hi everyone.hope you are all well (and cool) Glad the scan went well TR

Just thought I'd pop on and see how everyone is doing...nothing exciting to say. Trying to avoid the heat (unsucessfully) and stop the morning sickness (also unsucessfully)

Also have found that my brain is going completely. For example I was supposed to be on call last night, but in the rush to get to the toilet left my mobile in the car. Didn't notice until this morning, and had missed 10 calls from work...oops!! Then forgot I needed to take a different route in to work this morning due to local agri. show, and arrived for work 1/2 hour late. (I'm very popular at work this morning!!)

VITAL QUESTION.....when do I get my brain back??????

curtaintwitcher · 25/07/2006 12:27

ELM you never get your brain back...when you give birth the brain cells also get delivered..lol

laughalot · 25/07/2006 12:48

Curtain is right eml it dosent return you are brain dead from now on , in my first pg I totally lost the plot I work in a travel agents and a man asked me to check flights to ibiza and I printed them all off for tenerife and I still wonder to this day why he never returned to book them . Well this weather is still killing me im so hot all the time but its not for much longer only a few months......

laughalot · 25/07/2006 12:49

elm even se my brain has gone to

Hattie2 · 25/07/2006 13:48

Hi all - just had a quick skim through the posts since I've last been on (only about 200 or so!!). Pleased to hear everyone seems to be well and hopefully the worries are easing up.

Noticed a lot of people mentioning mw appts etc at the moment. Am I the only one with no appts between my 12 week scan and booking in and my 21 week scan at beginning of Sept?? Don't suppose I need to see anyone really but would be nice to listen to heartbeat etc.

trinityrhino · 25/07/2006 13:58

hattie, you can just make an app with the mw anytime and ask to hear the heartbeat

I did it with dd2 and now they are saying to me #would you like an app in a couple of weeks to lkisten to the heart?' cause they know that I'll just make one anyway casue I need to hear it occasionally to help me relax

flibertygibbet · 25/07/2006 14:23

Hi all, glad everyone sounds well and it seems like we're back to a 'normal' level of worrying!

I had my first midwife appointment since my 12 week scan this morning and heard the heartbeat. It was fab to hear as I had a bleed after the scan and I've been trying not to worry as it was the 4th time. It made me feel so much better to hear the heart beating away happily.

Hattie, I'm not scheduled to see the midwife again until 28 weeks (now 16+1) but midwife said I could book extra ones for reassurance if I need to. I bet that will apply to you too.

Oh and Trinity, stay!

becks5109 · 25/07/2006 14:35

Hattie2 its the same for me had my 12 week scan a few weeks ago and now don't see anyone until the 20 week scan which does seem ages away. I think as its my 2nd pregnancy that's the way they do it as I'm sure I had a 16 week appointment with my first. I keep lying really still at night hoping to feel some flickers but all I feel is wind! Off on hols at the beginning of August for a week and by the time I get back it will only be 3 and half week till the scan.

katierocket · 25/07/2006 14:56

hello - can I join you?

I am due with no 2 on Jan 17th, much longed for pregnancy after 2 years TTC and a cycle of IVF. I'm finally relaxing a bit and allowing myself to enjoy it.

2Happy · 25/07/2006 15:04

Hello everybody. Glad mw appts etc are going well.
Well I'm flipping miserable today, but I have every right to be since as of today I am no longer in my 20s. I'm old and past it and wrinkled and sob! Oh ok I'm overdoing it slightly, but it's a bit of an anticlimax, normal working morning, then afternoon off but it's just me and ds. dh is taking me out for a meal tonight, but since I can't even drink I suppose I'll be driving. Never mind, dh has ordered me a great present - a glider chair. I've wanted one ever since using the ones in mothercareworld's bfing room. Can't wait to get it - I'll be the one rocking, knitting and drooling in the corner then

elliepippamummy · 25/07/2006 17:21

Loads of posts today welcome katierocket congrats on baby no 2 I'm due 16th jan and it baby no 2 for us too!! Theres a stats thread if you havent seen it. Loubie37 · 25/07/2006 18:28

Hi Katierocket - it's nice to see a fellow (ex) clomid chick on board! Congratulations on the IVF working!! I'm due 3 days after you

Hello to everyone else, I'm feeling very pg today as the maternity trousers I ordered from Next arrived today - I tried them on and they're so comfy I've not taken them off! They're sort of below the bump ones I think, but they've got a lovely soft stretchy band round the top, I'm well pleased with them

Hope everyone else is OK

Welcome Katierocket.... really good to see you over here on this thread - congratulations on getting pregnant on your first IVF cycle too .

Well, after reading some recommendations on here, I've bought a copy of the House inside Mummy's tummy book. But still haven't plucked up the courage to tell DD she will be getting a sibling after Xmas! It's not that I'm worried about telling her (she's been pleading for one for months....no, years!), it's more that at the moment it's still a secret from the "general public" & I'm really not looking forward to all the fuss & the negative comments (5.5 yr age gap)! Silly, I know, but I still don't feel quite ready to share our clomid miracle with all & sundry!

Those of you who have other children...... how soon did you tell them? DD has just turned 5, btw, and I don't want to tell parents, friends etc until we've told her!

Glad everyone's bumps are doing ok - glad I'm having a winter baby this time.... would hate to be heavily pregnant in this heat!

Loubie37 · 25/07/2006 20:56

Hi saltcod, my 2 are a bit older than yours (just a bit!) - they are 14 and 12 so it's a bit different I suppose, but I felt it was important for them to be the first to know when I knew I was pg at log last, so we told them the day I got my BFP I would have hated for them to have found out from someone else.

Hattie2 · 25/07/2006 22:09

saltcod - can you still hide it at 16 weeks? My bump is growing daily (actually seems to grow during each day!). Dd is 3.5 and we told her when she came to the 12 week scan with us - she then completed our job by telling everyone she's seen since!

Thanks for the advice on just making an appt with the mw - think I will do that, Sept seems sooo far away!

katierocket · 26/07/2006 07:19

thanks for the welcome everyone. It is nice to have finally got there. HI again Loubie

Saltcod - we will have a 5 year gap too - DS is pretty excited. For ages I worried about a big gap but now I'm fine with it, just great to think he will have a sibling. We had to tell him earlier than we would of done because of the IVF (obviously I was disappering to the hospital a lot).

Like Hatties says I'm surprised you can hide it - you must have very strong toned muscles (unlike me!)

trinityrhino · 26/07/2006 08:21

dd1 and dd2 are 5 years apart and we told dd1 about dd2 when I was about 12 weeks, told her first and then my parents and sister and dh' mum and then dd1 did the rest of the job and told the whole world, we knew that she wopuld do this as she had asked for a baby sister(that was lucky then) for more than a year.
this time we told her as soon as I had had a BFP because we had more to sort out and think about because of the much smaller gap and so I didn't want to be whispering about it to dh and planning things and her thinking something was wrong or we had a big(possibly scary) secret so we just told her straight away and then crossed our fingers that everything would be ok.
she again did the same and told everyone but we weren't so bothered about "keeping it to ourselves til 12 weeks" as we had been before so that was fine.
and now i have had a scan and all is well, and I am now 12+4
The only problems I can see with having told dd1 so soon is that she will get a little impatient about it(which is no big problem at all) and at the mo she is adamant that she only wants a baby sister cause boys are icky, so we'll cross that bridge at the birth
hope everyone is managing to cope in this neverending oppressive heat.
I must say I am totally fine with dd1 but have NO IDEA how to prepare dd2(she'll be 22 months when the baby comes) any tips very welcome

trinityrhino · 26/07/2006 08:22

oh and welcome katierocket and many congrats on a long awaited pregnancy

coffeebeanz · 26/07/2006 09:33

Welcome to all the new ladies, hope you have happy pregnancies.

I havent told my family / children yet and I'm almost 16 weeks. I'm booked in for an amnio this Friday so ideally I'd like to get the results b4 telling anyone. Like Saltcod, I am getting away with it because its only my boobs which seem to have got huge at the moment although it does depend what I wear ( a swimming costume at the gym is a bit more revealing though and tight lycra sports kit is a bit of a no no) I really hate this in between stage where I look a bit podgy but not quite pregnant.

Has anyone else had or having an amnio ? I havent had the blood test yet and theres probably no point now. I guess its because I told my MW i wanted one ( an amnio that is )that I've missed out that stage. It does need some planning all these appointments, we still havent sorted out a holiday yet, cant go b4 then, got to be back for that ....

will let you all know how I get on .....

saltcod · 26/07/2006 10:59

Hi Everyone....... woken up during the night by the lovely sound of heavy rain..... absolutely tipping it down. All bright sunshine again now

Coffeebeanz, your description was spot on..... I'm able to hide the "podge" but have to be very careful with what I wear . I suppose I was fairly fit before I got pregnant, so that's helped. With dd1 I hid it till 6.5 months (could have hidden it for longer but the joke had worn off by then!), so I guess it's just the way I carry them. I think my bump is pretty obvious when I occasionally make it down the gym or go for a swim though..... lycra is not a great medium for hiding lumps & bumps!

After reading your replies, I have finally bitten the bullet & told dd.... she's very excited & wants to "invite all her friends round so she can tell them"..... guess the secret's gonna be out this week then! Oh, and she wants a baby brother (actually she wanted one of each, but there's definitely only 1 on board!). That will be novel..... the first boy after 6 baby girls in our family. I was going for a netball team myself . Oh well, only 5 months or so till all is revealed...... ooh!

katierocket · 26/07/2006 11:54

you hid it for 6 months with your first saltcod?! wow, respect, you must have stomach muscles of steel.

saltcod · 26/07/2006 12:05

I wish! No, I think it was combination of being a couple of stone overweight already 1st time round & winter.... lots of baggy jumpers! I'm much trimmer now + 2nd baby so it's definitely showing sooner this time round.... I doubt if I'll be able to hide it for more than a couple more weeks! But no need now anyway...... as I'm sure dd will have told the world long before then

17 wks today!

Loubie37 · 26/07/2006 13:01

The bleeding's back Just when I thought everything was going to be OK at last, I've had a red bleed today and had to be brought home from work I've rang the EAPU and they've booked me in for a scan on Friday, so I've got 2 days of worrying myself sick ahead of me

To make things worse, I found out today that someone else at work who is having identical twins has lost one of them...she's only 1 week behind me.

Fingers crossed everything will be OK, I'm not lifting a finger until after my scan.

oh Loubie, really sorry to hear that. It could be nothing though. My SIL had bleeding on and off until around 18 weeks but I can understand how horrendous it must be for you.
