Just Shagging Grads, here is your shiny new Fred!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The last thread saw plenty of births and we've got loads of new Grads to add to the mix. Bring on the TMI posts, the midnight moans, the birthwatches and the pom poms!

Our stats thread is here, so if you find us, please add your stats too.

There is also a Just Mumming thread for grads of the grads thread

And if you want to find out what Just Shagging is about or catch up with the undergrads go say hello to the Just Shaggers here, now on the 17th thread.

I hope everyone is well! My DS is 14 wks on Friday. Time really flies, it only feels like yesterday that we were JSing, then I was on this thread...now DS is here!!

Take care all! Thanks

Didn't make it to H&B but baby obviously heard the threat and didn't fancy an EPO shampoo as this morning we have mucous plug lossage!! Woohoooo! Never have I been so pleased to see pant snot Grin

Rockchick1984 · 19/09/2013 07:36

Yay Kitten! Get bouncing on that birth ball, walk sideways up and down stairs repeatedly, threaten baby that you will make DH sing to it if it doesn't get a shift on!! Grin

thethreeblondies · 19/09/2013 09:46

Yay Kitten sending easy labour vibes to you!! Second the bouncing/walking ideas!

I'm 35+6 so the end is just around the corner, getting stabby fanjo pains and bh if I have a busy day, so trying to take it easy for a week at least! I am glad the weather is cooler but a lot of my clothes are rather summery so I'm rocking some rather eclectic looks, and can only just get my socks and boots on!

Kittenkatzen · 19/09/2013 14:24

Have been having crampy pains in waves since this morning, started tracking them on my app an hour ago and the average so far is every 6-8 mins for 40 seconds or so. Not hugely painful though, and below my bump rather than in it iyswim so can't be proper contractions yet can they?

Rockchick1984 · 19/09/2013 14:28

Sounds like something is starting Kitten - beware that having a bath can slow it all down again (friend basically stopped her contractions following a bath, apparently its common knowledge?!?)

Kittenkatzen · 19/09/2013 14:35

Oh really, I hadn't heard that but will steer clear of the bath for now, thanks! How was your mw appt, did you get to hear the heartbeat?

Rockchick1984 · 19/09/2013 14:43

Yup, heard the heartbeat, could hear him/her kicking and wriggling too which was fab - can't remember that with DS! Gender scan on Tue, which felt really close until its just hit me that you will have a baby between now and my scan Grin

notsoold · 19/09/2013 19:07

Kitten....you go girl, you go girl!!!

Rock...how lovely!!! Congrats!!

Thethree I feel like you!!! My excuse to take it easy! :)

Kittenkatzen · 21/09/2013 14:42

Babykitten - a boy! - arrived safe and sound late last night GrinGrin he is perfect, DH and I are smitten if not a little shell shocked from a pretty traumatic birth (which I'll share when I get home and can face typing it out!)

I'll put full details and a pic on the fb page shortly :))

thethreeblondies · 21/09/2013 14:48

Sorry I have been in dreamy newborn land but finally written out my birth story, it's very long but will try to edit a bit and post it!

Who's next? Grin

Hooya · 23/09/2013 07:54

Birth story part 1

I had a few reasons for going for an elective C-section; genuine fear of labour and its after effects; high rates of episiotomy and emergency C-section where I was giving birth (in Tokyo); the desire to schedule our baby’s birth to maximise maternity leave with him; and the fact that my partner is taking paternity leave so would be around to help my recovery.

We stayed in the hospital the night before the op and to our surprise slept pretty well but nerves started mounting in the morning. The nurse came to put my IV in in the morning but couldn’t get the line in – happily instead of making multiple attempts she just said she’d get the doctor to do it.

An hour or so later my obstetrician, who’s been with me since my miscarriage last year, came in to run us through the timings and got my IV line in very easily. The anaesthesiologist who I’d met the previous day also dropped in – she was especially reassuring and I started to feel excited again. That said, when the nurse appeared at 08:45 to take us down I was pretty much terrified! We got to the theatre and my partner was taken off to get his scrubs on while I was taken for anaesthesia. I found that part frightening – there were two separate local anaesthetics in my spine, each followed by the serious stuff – first the epidural and then the spinal block. It wasn’t pleasant and took about 15 mins in total but my obstetrician and the anaesthesiologist were immensely reassuring and as soon as it was done I felt calm – any un-medicated pain was now over! I felt very strange as they lay me back on the table but they very thoroughly checked that the anaesthetic had worked, and I knew to just focus on my breathing and not focus too much on how the anaesthetic felt. I could feel nothing other than mild tingling from below my boobs...

Hooya · 23/09/2013 07:57

Birth story part 2 (long, please ignore if bored!)

There were a few minutes of preparation and a screen being put up in front of me, then my partner appeared his scrubs looking frightened but clearly on a mission to reassure me – they sat him next to me and he held my hand. Then they let me know they were starting – how brilliant to know my baby was coming in a few minutes but I wouldn’t feel anything bad! My partner decided to watch the op on the screen set up in the operating theatre, and gave me small updates so I knew what was happening, but I avoided seeing anything – I’d been warned not to look at the light above the operating table as you can see things reflected in it – things I didn’t want to see! My partner said it was perfect that he could watch on screen as it was fascinating but not as scary as watching directly on me, if that makes sense.

Suddenly the baby was coming out and the doctor told me too look up and see my son for the first time! He looked amazing, nowhere near as bloody and scary as I expected he would (well he probably did but I was too amazed to mind!) and very quickly started crying which was reassuring. He was taken over to be cleaned and quickly brought back to me so I could give him a quick kiss. The surgical team were lovely, all giving lots of ‘omedetou’s and laughing and smiling. Both my partner and I were crying and so happy – I can’t describe how amazing it felt to go from this very controlled, clinical, almost relaxed setting to the joy of meeting our baby!

My partner went with the baby while I finished being stitched up – though strange, it did give me time to try to relax and get more and more excited about seeing my boy! They advised me when there were about 10 minutes to go. Hearing them stapling the incision together was pretty weird but I had to just laugh as it was painless! Being moved onto a gurney from the operating table was a bit frightening as I couldn’t feel it, but soon I was on the move and on my way back to my room. We found my partner on the way back who said they hadn’t let him go with the baby – disappointing as he’d been waiting around for news and worrying, but they took him downstairs to see the baby and was told he could bring him back upstairs in about 20 minutes after I’d been monitored for a while. It was very hard to wait but the moment when my partner burst into the room saying “he’s just amazing!” followed by our son was just priceless. The nurses had my partner lift him out of his cot and laid next to me in the bed for our first cuddle. Huxley Hiro was ours and so so loved! We decided to Skype call our families right away and it was amazing to be able to share Huxley’s first moments with us with them too, even from thousands of miles away. The next few hours were surprisingly calm and lovely – I was still hooked up to various tubes and monitors but was still able to have a cuddle and chat with my partner about our wee boy. I also with the help of the nurses had my first go at breastfeeding, which luckily went perfectly with their encouragement. The spinal block wore off after about 2 hours but the epidural was topped up so I felt no pain at all, and spent the next few hours just cuddling and feeding my baby or watching my partner with him...

Hooya · 23/09/2013 07:58

Birth story part 3 (final bit!)

We had some drama that first night as I managed to move and break the epidural line, which left me in a lot of pain for an hour or two as I was without any pain meds for that time, but the anaesthesiologist came back and administered some alternative IV meds which I preferred as there was no numbness. The first walk on the second day was incredibly difficult, really painful and so hard not to give up, but it just kept getting easier after that. After 3 days I didn’t need any pain meds and now 13 days post op I’m fairly near normal, if a bit slow and occasionally sore when twisting or moving suddenly. Elective C-section isn’t for everyone, and I know a lot can go wrong and that I was incredibly lucky, but for me it was the perfect solution. I feel so bonded with my baby, I didn’t feel I lost out on anything, and I feel I can look back on an exceptionally positive birth experience. Phew!

thethreeblondies · 23/09/2013 09:48

Lovely birth story Hooya I think the nice thing is you have such a clear memory of it!

With DD1 8 years ago I had a "full" shot of pethidine (something I was told they wouldn't do now!) and my memory of her birth is very hazy (like trying to remember a very drunk night out!)

As long as they get here safe and well that's the main thing! But I do have fonder memories of DD2's birth (although probably more painful lol!) because I only had gas and air and actually remember what happened Smile

Ummm I think I'm next Grin 36+3 so on count down, need to finalise the packing of hospital bag (it's all together in nursery/playroom!) But also trying to keep on top of school clothes for DD's, and cleaning etc as mil will stay if I go in overnight!

cookielove · 23/09/2013 09:57
