Hi all! Providing the ladies who are currently in hospital don't give birth before the last 20 posts in our old thread, we've made it to a new one with babies all still staying put for now!

Here's the stats thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the FB group (better for sharing documents and pictures), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

Reflux and heartburn sounds hellish, feel for you guys who are all suffering. I'm struggling to sleep and I've managed to escape it completely. Night time must be horrendous for you all. I hope it eases soon. I don't know the answer to your question but it sounds promising. I've heard it's possible to deliver baby still in amniotic sack. Still, I think I'd rather my waters went first. Keep us posted and all the best of this is your time.

jennimoo · 24/08/2013 07:08

Cheese straw - with DD that was the start of labour for me, but I now see it isn't always! If they start so get a but painful etc you've a good chance this is it :)

It seems a long 'latent' labour phase like I'm having isn't the norm but not very unusual. And absolutely nothing to be done except wait until it picks up / my waters go. I want my baby!

weebarra · 24/08/2013 07:45

jenni - yes, I had long latent phase with all 3 so sympathise. Soooo tiring and frustrating!

jennimoo · 24/08/2013 07:50

Weebarra - sorry to hear that, it's rubbish isn't it? How did you know it was actually the real thing in the end? I feel like I don't trust my instincts any more. And was it quick once it did happen?

weebarra · 24/08/2013 09:30

Things eventually moved on and got more regular, then my waters went. Unfortunately ended up with sections for failure to progress. With DD though, things just ramped up and I think would have moved quickly if I'd been allowed.
They were concerned about scar rupture though, so I went straight from triage to theatre!

andadietcoke · 24/08/2013 09:33

For those of you suffering with heartburn, try Zantac - the mw suggested it to me when I was in last week and it's working a treat. You can take it in combination with Gaviscon, and I can sleep flat for the first time in about 6 weeks with it!!

Mooster1709 · 24/08/2013 09:59

Morning all! Still no sign of anything at all happening here - feels like it could be weeks away (39+2). Have decided to have a final fling night away with DH tomorrow - only an hour away though so should be safe I think.

I've been waking up for the last few mornings/in the night with one extremely painful finger. A bit like the pain of a sprained ankle - hurts to move it. No obvious cause, and am not sleeping with it in a funny position. Those of you with carpal tunnel probs, could it be that? In only one finger? It's very strange indeed, but does get better as the day goes on.

badguider · 24/08/2013 09:59

Yes to Zantac. One 75mg tablet taken before dinner sorts me out but I know some others here are on up to two 150mg tablets a day.
It's available over the counter. Says speak to doc before taking if pregnant but seems fine with most MWs.

LotsaTuddles · 24/08/2013 09:59

Had MW yesterday too - she's sending me for growth scan next week as I'm 36 + 4 and measuring 33cm. She's not that worried as I'm quite tall so I have a lot of back for the baby to be hiding in, but sending me just incase.

I asked about the period pains, she says that from how I describe them, they're very little contractions and that eventually they'll start as period pains and gradually get higher and higher up my bump.

It's my hospitals practice to do the delayed cord clamping thing, unless they have to cut it quickly. So I'll hopefully getting that, I'm not really bothered either way, I was clamped straight away and I'm ok. She also spoke about the injection to get the placenta out which I'll probably have too.

Still getting slight contractions that definitely aren't BH. MW explained them to me yesterday too. Braxton hicks is where all the band type muscles around uterus tighten at the same time (that's why bump goes rock solid), actual contractions are like a wave, starting at the bottom and ending at the too - I've definitely had a few of those

A friend who gave birth recently told me to get hold of lactulose now and start it straight after birth before any constipation issues arise.
Anybody else heard that? Anybody used lactulose? Is it available OTC? Does friends idea sound good?

andadietcoke · 24/08/2013 11:44

mooster yep - mine started in one finger and then spread. Hopefully your baby will be here before you get to the no sensation in fingers stage Wink

My mum rang me this morning to say that she'd woken up to hear my voice telling her that the babies were coming today. She's not normally particularly 'woo' but does have a track record for this kind of thing. Will have to wait and see!!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/08/2013 12:06

Thank you everyone who enlightened me about Ikea pick and mix! liquorice fudge is delicious!

Mooster1709 · 24/08/2013 13:54

both of my new mum/doctor friends also suggested (in strong terms) lactulose, but also not sure where to get it...

oh bugger, re: the finger dietcoke. It's pain though, rather than no sensation, but still the same thing you think? And POOR you if you've been putting up with it for longer than a few days!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 24/08/2013 14:27

I've looked up lactulose and I think you can get it OTC at Lloyds chemist so presumably the others too.

andadietcoke · 24/08/2013 14:31

Sorry Mooster, mine started as aching when I woke up/numbness in the night, then went across my hand, and I'd wake up with 'claw hand' - takes about an hour to be able to open and close my hand pain-free, then it spread to my left hand as well, then lost sensation in my thumb and first two fingers on my right hand (but unfortunately not in the joints!). Should say though, this started about a 6-8 weeks ago, so hopefully your's won't have time to progress.

Spoke to the consultant about it at 32 weeks and she said she could refer me for physio but it wasn't worth it given the gestation and it should spontaneously resolve itself post-birth.

Have found that massaging the knuckles helps, and run my hands under cold water when I get up in the morning.

badguider · 24/08/2013 14:31

thanks rake - i've got the MW on monday (not a bank hol up here) so will try to remember to ask her.

Joskar · 24/08/2013 14:38

I'm on lactolose because of the massive dose of iron I'm on. It works a treat. If anything too well... [shocked] go easy and step up the dose gradually.

mooster and dietcoke the delights of carpal tunnel. Been suffering since about 15 weeks. Shake your hands or sleep with them hanging off the bed or get some wrist splints. The splints worked for me at first but now it's much worse they don't seem to. I've also recently developed tarsal tunnel - exact same thing but in your ankles. How many more freakin' symptoms are there?!

fl0b0t · 24/08/2013 16:28

monster and dietcoke - very similar to my Carpal.... started with tingles and numbness and progresses within a couple of weeks to sore claw hand. MOST annoying to not be able to move finger joints first thing or if I wake in the night. ... toilet trips are v challenging!

Currently ready for a nap in our swanky hotel room at Nutfield Priory before dinner :)

SGJ · 24/08/2013 16:41

I just ran in from the car to get out of the torrential rain and managed to fall up our front steps! Landed mainly on my hands and knees but squashed myself over the poor bump in an attempt not to land on it! Hands really hurt now and I had to have a little cry at the shock of it.
Have felt the baby move since though, and listened to the heartbeat for ages which was fine, but am under strict orders from my midwife sister to not move from the sofa for the rest of the day and ring the hospital at the first sign of bump pain or any mucus-y show!! Eeek!
I've been very blasé and 'oh, I'm fine' about everything throughout this pregnancy, and assuming I'll go way over again, but at 39+3 I really should start assuming that this baby could come any day now!

Joskar · 24/08/2013 18:26

SGJ Cake

I just made a victoria sponge with cream and home-made raspberry jam. I'm mentally sending you a piece and a cup of tea. (Obviously in order to mentally send this I will have to physically consume it.) Horrible shock. Take care.

Peregrin · 24/08/2013 19:00

And some comforting Brew to go with that cake!

jennimoo · 24/08/2013 19:05

Sgj - that sounds scary, but like everything's fine. Hope you feel more relaxed by now and get a good nights sleep.

badguider · 24/08/2013 19:23

Sounds like a shock SGJ but also sounds like everything's fine which is good.

And joskar you've made me so jealous with your Cake - I must make more time for cake now that I'm on mat leave...

frogchops · 24/08/2013 19:39

Am in agony with heartburn :-/ and miserable that I'm going for my birthday meal tomorrow and don't really want anything :-/ am willing to try Zantac though... Never heard of it!

SGJ · 24/08/2013 20:25

Thanks all. Having a medicinal Chinese now and will finish off with some of Joskar's cake x
