Hi all! Providing the ladies who are currently in hospital don't give birth before the last 20 posts in our old thread, we've made it to a new one with babies all still staying put for now!

Here's the stats thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the FB group (better for sharing documents and pictures), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

Hie
I have been noticing a lot of pregnant women using or starting to use rasberry leaf tea. Has any of u ladies used it and does it really work? Am 36 weeks tomoro and just debating whether to start taking it now or to wait till im 37 weeks????

mrspaddy · 22/08/2013 17:10

I am going to ask for a sweep at my next appointment.. they said I coulf ask as will be 39+3.
Hope it will do the trick but maybe not. Otherwise could be ten days over. Trying to enjoy the peace and quiet until then. Bought a few books so will try and get into reading.
DH booked a meal for sat night so going to get wash and blow dry .. that will be the last of the romancing for a while Grin.

Haven't got the tea mamma..

badguider · 22/08/2013 17:20

38weeks today!!! :)

Finish work tomorrow... though it won't be a big event as I work freelance from home and have already had my last meeting. I am on target to finish my report for tomorrow so no panicking. I've let the house go to pot in the last week and my work stuff is scattered all over the living room so after I finish I'll still have to file it all away for the next few months.

DH is at a bike event on saturday on a route called the 'five ferries' - and yes, that does mean he could potentially be FIVE ferry rides away from home at the furthest point on the route!!! I think we'll both be very pleased when he's home... going to take the campervan to a nice spot less than an hour from home for sunday/monday and just chill out with the papers/books.

I've got a slight cold so will be happy if labour holds off a little bit longer to let me recover. I think Dh and I were both born between 40 and 41 weeks and I know that first-timers mostly give birth around 41+1.

Plans for next week involve a MW appt, some preggy yoga, a haircut and a massage. Also meeting up with my friend whose baby will be 2wks old on sunday as her husband will be back at work after pat leave.

HettySunshine · 22/08/2013 17:40

Aaaaahhhh! 36+6 and I have finally finished work! I'm so relieved. Grin

This week has been a real struggle, not the work so much as just having to sit in an uncomfortable chair and be on the ball all the time.

I have had a lovely day though, my team took me out to lunch and I got some lovely cards and John Lewis vouchers and got to leave early. On the sofa now watching Pointless.

Nothing to worry about now except my impending motherhood!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 22/08/2013 17:45

I've been taking Raspberry leaf capsules somewhat sporadically for the last few weeks, but every day since 38w (which was 10d ago). I had actually forgotten what they were for... but have now been reminded that they are for 'toning' the uterus and cervix to make labour go more efficiently (and potentially quicker).

I have a MW appt tomorrow and am going to ask for a sweep, well, an examination to see whether a sweep is worth doing. If the cervix is way back then there's no point. But at least I'll then sort of have the pressure off this weekend while my dad's here doing DIY. We went for a walk today at a local nature reserve and I am now itching to go back there and plunder the pathways for blackberries and elderberries!

frogchops · 22/08/2013 17:59

I feel

frogchops · 22/08/2013 18:03

Oops...
I feel the same about food... I'm desperate for something imparticular, just don't know what. At the mo I'm eating more jam sandwiches than anything, suppose cos they're quick, and don't give me heartburn if I don't use much butter. I have no interest in cooking although have asked my mum to bring her cook books round for inspiration. They aren't working!

And errr, ikea with pick n mix??? Wow. I use the wrong one!

andadietcoke · 22/08/2013 18:17

frogchops think it's fairly new. 'Tis brilliant though!

The babies feel like they're trying to break out. I thought they were supposed to have run out of space by now?! These two feel like a bag of eels in my belly...

CheeseStrawCraving · 22/08/2013 18:24

Hi all! Will catch up with the rest of Fred in a mo, but my dog has been a bit mental too, we put it down to the full moon...

Also period like pains, but saw midwife today and she said he is now 1/5 engaged and has also moved so back is left instead of right (where e as been or 8+ weeks). So maybe bubs are just getting ready for everyone.... Eek!

Manoodledo · 22/08/2013 19:28

Popped out this afternoon to get some raspberry leaf tea but am worried I've left it too late. I'm sure I read somewhere that it works best if taken from 32 weeks. Still, it's worth a try. I drank loads of it with the other two and had fairly speedy labours with massively strong contractions. There was no build up of contractions either time. My waters broke then nothing happened for a few hours then the contractions were practically back to back and seriously full on right from the start.

This baby also feels like it's trying to break out. Ouch. Also, what does it mean when the midwife writes 4/5 palpable? This morning the midwife dug down and had a hand either side of the baby's head and then got me to put my hands there too. It was slightly weird feeling the head like that.

Geesescareme · 22/08/2013 19:30

Ikea pick and mix is the best although disappointed they seem to have stopped doing daim bars :( every time I go to ikea there are about 50 other heavily pregnant ladies, it's like it's some sort of Mecca!

36+1 today and had my midwife appointment. Baby is still 1/5th engaged (same as 2 weeks ago) which I was a bit disappointed at as it felt like he was much more engaged and getting uncomfortable. It can't get any more uncomfortable with him going even lower lol!

Had my first period type pains today walking around the local shops, but was a constant pain and lasted about half an hour.

Also (sorry if tmi!) had the tiniest spots of blood after going to the loo each time today. Presume it might be part of the show but have had no mucus. Also maybe slightly too early? Mentioned it to DH and he had a bit of a panic and said 'you must mention it to someone' and told me to tell the midwife at our Breastfeeding class tomorrow. Slight over reaction I think lol! I will just keep and eye on it and see how it goes, it's only the tiniest bit.

HettySunshine · 22/08/2013 19:51

Geese, I think 1/5 engaged is the most engaged. It means the midwife could only feel 1/5 of your baby's head above the pelvis. Double check but I'm sure that's right!

jennimoo · 22/08/2013 20:24

4/5s palpable means MW felt 4/5s and 1/5 is engaged/ in the pelvis. Mine wrote 0/5s palpable last week meaning she couldn't feel the head at all, but doesn't really affect when they come anyway...

Geesescareme · 22/08/2013 20:24

No it's defo that she meant that 1/5th is engaged into the pelvis, she explained that she could still feel most of his head and that only the tip of it was in the pelvis :)

Peregrin · 22/08/2013 20:49

frogchops, my quick fix is bananas or very creamy yoghurt with fruit, but it's only enough to provide short-term relief while I figure out what next! Chocolate stopped working, which is probably a good thing given the quantities I was eating of it (though saw a picture of a Nutella jar today and have a huge craving for it now!). Oddly I haven't thought of jam sandwiches.

I managed to cook something satisfying today, finally. I made chicken soup in a pressure cooker with lots of extra chicken, and used the meat for bulking out A Girl Called Jack's apricot curry (instead of the chickpeas she used). agirlcalledjack.com/2013/04/09/jardaloo-ma-murghi-curry-with-apricots-22p/
Didn't feel like eating much of either but some soup and some of the curry afterwards felt really good!

HettySunshine · 22/08/2013 20:50

Ah, sorry. I guess it's another one of those things that varies from area to area.

jennimoo · 22/08/2013 20:56

I would think its quite a subjective measure, how engaged the head is. Given that it means so little I don't know why they bother to measure it. I suppose fundal height isn't a great measure either and they do that one...

In case you haven't seen Facebook / stats thread belvedere has had a little boy :)

kipsonline · 22/08/2013 21:49

I'm so pleased we're not the only ones who cannot go to ikea together... That place is the closest we have ever come to divorce!! I go alone now after the boys are in bed, much more civilised!

kipsonline · 22/08/2013 21:50

I took raspberry leaf tablets every day from 34 wks btw each pg and have now had 3 quick and efficient labours..including Fraser's slightly too quick half an hour version ;)

fl0b0t · 22/08/2013 21:58

I also started my maternity as of now!
Weirdly my boss's boss have me a hug and we all wentout for lunch. Fit home late and bluddy tired now.

Anyone else find leaving work weird and very hard?. I had to be told to leave as I was walking in circles after handing in laptop keys and mobile!

PurplePoppySeed · 22/08/2013 22:13

I've got 1 day left and so much to do tomorrow feels really weird to think this time tomorrow I'll be on mat leave!

JammyTummy · 22/08/2013 22:16

Just wondering- is it possible to have delayed cord clamping and then injection to speed placenta coming out, or is it a case of all or nothing?

Also, Ikea- always a fall out but often resolved by a hotdog!

badguider · 22/08/2013 22:22

hi jammy - yes, that's possible here (so i don't see why not everywhere). Also it's possible to choose the injection at any point if you've previously chosen to wait... so it probably makes sense to choose natural/physiological to start with unless you are bleeding a lot or really terribly exhausted and then if it really takes too long choose the injection later.

CheeseStrawCraving · 23/08/2013 00:08

Hi jammy, yep it's possible here too, I've opted for exactly that.

jennimoo · 23/08/2013 04:51

Jammy - that's what I planned last time. DD was too chilled out after her water birth to start breathing though so they clamped / cut and took her into the cool corridor where she started breathing instantly.
