Hi all! Providing the ladies who are currently in hospital don't give birth before the last 20 posts in our old thread, we've made it to a new one with babies all still staying put for now!

Here's the stats thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the FB group (better for sharing documents and pictures), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

That's true, thanks mrsmango. She keeps pushing us for an answer to her invite, replying with "we'd love to but taking each day as it comes" doesn't seem to satisfy. My only concern is getting there, being uncomfortable, things kicking off and having to do the return journey in early labour, getting home and then as things move on having another 45 min car trip to hospital. I'm a real home bird at the moment, don't want to be far from my nest. It's going to be a long 2 weeks if I sit at home and don't get out and do things though!!

Hope your next few days at work fly by and you're feeling a little more comfortable.

jennimoo · 22/08/2013 06:57

Flip - I'd say yes myself, but dependant on feeling ok on the day. However I'd definitely have carseat and bags with me just in case. Took carseat and notes when I went less than an hour away at early 30 weeks though as like to be prepared Blush

LotsaTuddles · 22/08/2013 07:39

I'd say yes depending on how you feel too Flip.

We've given that as an answer to a christening we've been invited to in bloody Wales next weekend (I'll be nearly 38 weeks by then).

But if the last few days are anything to go by, we won't be going as have had a couple of niggley pains and have a feeling the baby's coming early, especially as our dog has been especially weird the last few days too.

Saying that, if we do go, we'll be taking bags and car seat etc just incase

jennimoo · 22/08/2013 07:52

That's interesting about the dog. My cats been unsettled since I started the slowest labour ever on Saturday (still getting pains, cramps, bits of plug...) I could hear her moving around a lot last night and the previous night age even came up on the bed while I was awake having mini-contractions: both are very unlike her.

SGJ · 22/08/2013 08:23

I haven't seen my cat since yesterday morning! Hope he hasn't gotten stuck up a tree again, I can't be doing with that at 39 weeks!!
Just came back from nursery drop off and it seems DH has booked the day off and forgotten to tell me! Now allowing him to blare music out full blast at 8.20am before I spring it on him that today might be an ideal day to drive to Lakeside and buy out half of Ikea and Kiddicare.... MWA HA HA

TripleRock · 22/08/2013 08:55

Ouch yes, really don't fancy sweeps at 38w. DH and I discussed it last night and we both agreed we would decline, certainly until after 40 weeks.

The only relevant medical history is my previous section, which means induction options are very limited. I think ob is being trigger happy proactive.

Only reason he has is the larger than average AC on scan. This is where I think too much information is not good. If I was MW led I probably wouldn't even have had a growth scan as I'm measuring fine anyway. Honestly, I'll be shocked if this baby is over 8lb.

I'm going to have a t-shirt printed saying 'Everything is fine with my pregnancy, leave us be!'

TripleRock · 22/08/2013 08:59

To whoever was asking about the Angelcare monitor, we used this on the crib in our bedroom initially. Then moved it to the proper cot when DD moved to her room. Basically we used it wherever she had her main nighttime sleeps.

I didn't use it for downstairs daytime sleeps as I was usually awake or just dosing then anyway.

JammyTummy · 22/08/2013 09:00

On the subject of plenty of warning and pre labour- which MIL is simply refusing to accept as a concept. She is the nicest nicest person, but very set in her ways and is a 150% epidural girl- if she had the option I think she would've had one before even leaving the house. Anyway, DH and I were on a fairly lengthy dog walk last sun (but in no way remote) and he went: what would happen if you went into labour now? To which I answered, well, we wouldn't have much of a choice, we'd walk back to the car, drive home, get organised and see how we do. DH then mentioned this to MIL which produced a very patronising Hmm from her and something along the lines of 'we will see how she feels when it really happens'... AHHHHH so annoying. Needless to say I try not to ever bring up the fact that I would like an active/ water birth (but can you have an epidural if you have a water birth? Ehm... No...).

andadietcoke · 22/08/2013 09:17

We've had the 'no alcohol' chat several times and still when we go out DH is getting me to drive so he can have a drink. Don't think he really 'gets' it - this may be because I have a track record for driving myself to A&E choking (I have an allergic inflammatory condition which affects my ability to swallow food sometimes).

I'm loving all the stories about babies being completely different weights when they actually arrive - am terrified that Twin 2 was measuring 8lb2oz at 36w!!

So after four consecutive days on the ante natal day unit and an admission, my BP was finally normal at the home visit yesterday. Have to go for PET bloods tomorrow, and if there's anything off they'll bring my section forward (I discovered this reading my notes last night!!). If not then I have another home visit on Monday, pre op on Wednesday, and the section booked for Thursday. Shock

EmmaDee · 22/08/2013 09:52

Morning all,

Yip I have broached the subject of no alcohol with dh but not until 37 weeks, we have a wedding this weekend so no doubt he'll go crazy at it, drinking for three to make up for the few weeks off the booze!!

My cat has started behaving oddly too, he's a rescue cat and to be honest is normally a vicious beast, we actually got him to guard against other cats digging up our flower bed! And he's brilliant at it! We often hear him fighting in the wee hours!

But for the last few days he's been coming in to bed with me once dh is up and snuggling up to me on the sofa, very odd. But as soon as dh comes in the cats off! Do you think they have a 6th sense?

frogchops · 22/08/2013 10:18

Have just started getting a bit of period pain.... Odd that I haven't felt this in 8 months! (Or maybe its wind, I'm telling myself its wind....)
Anyone else getting period cramps?

Readytosettle · 22/08/2013 10:21

Maybe I'm just a bit more 'pro intervention' than a lot of people...As soon as I hit 37 weeks I'd happily have this baby out, and will be biting their hand off for a sweep at 38 weeks if it's offered...no matter how painful!

Having said that, my mum had both me & my bro on our due dates. I decided to dig a bit deeper on this the other week (to see if I was likely to have the same luck) & it turns out that she basically gave the mw's sob stories about how miserable/uncomfortable she was so that they'd give her early sweeps.....hmm, no prizes for guessing where my impatient streak comes from!!

Manoodledo · 22/08/2013 10:39

Just been to see the midwife and I am now measuring about 4 cm too small. Bump hasn't grown any in the 3 weeks since I saw her last. They're sending me for a scan but they can't be that worried as the appointment is for a week's time (by which time I intend to have had the baby anywayWink). I wasn't expecting a big baby and I'm only 5 foot 1. Still, it's hard to know whether to worry. I wonder if my mum will feel bad about her rude comments about the size of my bump when I tell her. Last week apropos of nothing much she said 'Well, I don't think the Duchess of Cambridge ever reached YOUR size.'Hmm

LotsaTuddles · 22/08/2013 11:02

We haven't really had to have the no drinking talk as neither of us drink much anyway.

DH has only come home drunk once since I've been pg, and it was his stag do, so I had to let him off.

I was 2 cm smaller than number of weeks at last appointment (2 weeks ago) but MW wasn't worried as I was still in the lines in my chart thingie.

Have had period type pains a couple of times - didn't mean anything I don't think.

I'm also in the "please be born as soon as possible" camp

jennimoo · 22/08/2013 11:23

Frogchops - I'm getting periody cramps all the time and for me it comes before early labour type contractions. I don't think I got them until right before labour kicked off with DD...

Mooster1709 · 22/08/2013 11:42

frog I had been getting period-like pains on and off for a while about a week ago. They seem to have stopped now. I asked my mw about them and she said it's normal, but also that that's what the start of early labour feels like. Not the most definitive answer, I know!

I'm really struggling with mat leave (even though am not 'officially' on it until due date) - I'm 39 weeks and although there's a list of things to get done, none of them are that important - I've managed to get most of the baby organisation stuff done already - or really appeal. I should be finishing off an article, but can't find the motivation, and am not sure it's do-able within a week anyway, which doesn't help. ho-hum.

mw offered me a sweep at 40 weeks, but am not that keen - think I might leave it until 41, especially since am desperately trying to last until September. She didn't seem bothered either way. Consultant though said to come in at 40ish weeks if not delivered to discuss induction. Not sure if this is just routine or because baby's growth had slowed down on last scan. Not that he seemed at all worried about it, in fact said I should be pleased because it would make delivery easier!

TripleRock · 22/08/2013 12:33

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for baby to come as soon as he's ready and I hope not to be kept waiting for too long.

But after my emcs last time I really want to give my VBAC the best chance possible. Which I know means avoiding the oft mentioned 'cascade of interventions' which in other words means, if everything is ok leave well alone!

I know they will be watching me like a hawk during labour anyway... So I'd rather stay at home and keep my head down rather than have my consultant come up with anymore 'bright ideas' about nudging things along

Manoodledo · 22/08/2013 12:48

I wasn't in a hurry either until the midwife mentioned a sweep at my next appointment if I'd like one. No, ta. Thinking it'll have to be a curry tomorrow night, maybe one with pineapple in it. I've just remembered as well that in my two previous pregnancies I drank lots of raspberry leaf tea. Had forgotten about that, must go and get some. Both labours started with my waters breaking so I'm kind of expecting this to happen again, but of course it might not. According to my mum, her third labour (me) was completely different from the first too, and longer as well. Boo!

frogchops · 22/08/2013 13:20

Mw has been, the boy is still head down but not engaged...boooo.
She suggested I maybe have a slight water infection, but it might be something softening and releasing some blood. Not much else discussed, mainly because everything I mean to ask, I forget when the time comes Confused

SGJ · 22/08/2013 14:30

Well, we didn't make it to Lakeside (lots of huffing and moaning about Ikea) but we did make it to John Lewis where DH bought us an ergobaby sling and a nice lunch, so all is well. Off home now to watch something mind numbing on tv and have a think about whether to do the hoovering today or not. Smile

Readytosettle · 22/08/2013 14:40

My DH always huffs & puffs about Ikea...I always have to remind him of the cheap hot dogs at the end & promise that we'll use the shortcuts to go directly to the section that we need.

frogchops · 22/08/2013 14:58

Ikea means domestic/row/dramatic exit to us so we don't go often. Hotdogs do nothing to convince my DP either. Actually when we went to buy our nursery furniture, DP hugged me before we went in and told me that whatever happened in the shop he still loved me Grinhaha. I still came out crying Blush

Mooster1709 · 22/08/2013 16:05

YY, the hotdogs are the only things that will get DH into Ikea. And a bag of frozen meatballs to take home. And still have never made it the whole way round without some tense words at the very least. I think if I went on my own I'd be much more successful and might actually enjoy it but for some reason never think to do this.

I'm completely off all the foods I can think of to cook. I mean, I want to eat something, in fact quite a lot of something, but I just don't know what it is. It is very, very frustrating. Any ideas?

andadietcoke · 22/08/2013 16:16

Ah, see in the diet coke household, Ikea now means pic and mix, and either of us will happily skip off there if it means 70p per 100g sweets at the end Grin

Readytosettle · 22/08/2013 16:29

mooster I have that feeling a lot....like if you could work out what it is u want & satisfy it then it would be the best feeling ever! Try drinking as I think it's quite often a thirst thing...altho I do sometimes wonder whether sex would solve it- unfortunately DH is never there at the right moment...
