I am rubber, but feel a bit weird to buy second hand nappies, though that's probably silly.

How long do you need maternity pads?

cartoontrickster · 06/09/2013 12:59

ok so twice a week, so I use say johnsons baby wash? but do I use a cloth? so I need seperate top and tail right? god I literally need step by step.

No products, just water. Top and tail bowl is one of the most regretted purchases, as I said, we just held dd in the shower with us and let the water cascade down her body. You will be using cotton wool and water on the nappy changes to begin with so the bits get cleaned then.

Maternity pads depends on how long you bleed for afterwards. I was bleeding for 7 weeks but the flow got less as time went on so I was able to move to the thin ones. Don't underestimate how much you can bleed at the start, I gushed every time I moved so had lots of trips to the toilet. Everyone is different but best to be prepared, I lived in black trousers and tunics to begin with as I was so paranoid about getting blood on my clothes

cartoontrickster · 06/09/2013 13:18

ah I see now I get why you just used the shower rubber. when can you use products on their skin?

OP posts:
EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 06/09/2013 16:17

I always laugh when I see a t & t bowl, just use a bowl and wash baby's face before their arse, problem solved Grin I use Johnson's all in one baby bath/bubble bath stuff and Johnson's baby shampoo on K, don't use any extra soaps or product yet. I was a bit naughty and used wipes on her (and toddly boo) soon as I could for nappy changes Wink I do use cotton wool to wash in her crevices though :)

Yy to lots of thick pads!

cartoontrickster · 06/09/2013 17:11

Envy cotton wool! yuk makes me feel sick. I've got a massive bag of the stuff at home so I can try and get used to touching it Confused

RubberBullets · 06/09/2013 17:17

In that case, what about using cloth? Some people use flannels, some use special reusable wipes and some squares of fleece. Just wet them with water and wipe

ScrambledSmegs · 06/09/2013 17:22

Aha! Industrial sanitary towels I can help with. Kotex Maxi Pads Night in the black packet. Soft, thick, no weird scratchy coating to irritate your sore bits, and best of all they're about £1.15 for 10, much cheaper than so-called Maternity pads. I got a few packs on special offer. Make no mistake, you WILL need more than one pack!

Also, for the lovely first poos Envy I bought a pack of flannels from Poundland and used them with water. Came off a treat. I have to admit I binned them afterwards, I couldn't bear to take them home from the hospital in my bag! Wipes after that, sod cotton wool and water.

SweetieTime · 06/09/2013 17:31

I love how talk of sanitary towels brings in Smegs Come back and give us more preggo tips.

If I have a c section will I also need jumbo pads?

cartoontrickster · 06/09/2013 18:02

so I don't have to use cotton wool Grin that makes me soooo happy!

keepitgoing · 06/09/2013 18:02

I think they clear out the womb sweetie so should be much less, but will still be bleeding. Are you planning to bf? That makes the uterus contract and expel more stuff. Nice.

Where's sparks these days, has she abandoned us?

12 weeks to go here, girls.

cartoontrickster · 06/09/2013 18:18

ooooh 12wks keep Shock
sparks regularily instragrams pics of R. so I think she's just enjoying mummy hood.
I think I really need a pregnancy/baby book.
keep what book do you have? or does most of your info come from Mr k?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 06/09/2013 19:06

The lovely Sparks is just busy being a Mum Smile

Trix I went out and got the book that Keep recommended, it's really good.

Keep 12 weeks? How is that even possible Shock!! How are you feeling? How has your first week gone?

Smegs!! You are so wise Wink

SweetieTime · 06/09/2013 19:13

The photos Sparks puts on of R are lovely, he is a little smasher.

My Mum got me a Miriam Stoppard parenting book from charity shop. It looked good for the practical tips but it only has 2 pages on twins!!! In a 400 page book. How can that be???

Keep I have just worked out I am not far behind you with only 13 weeks to the furthest they will let me go. OMG proper panic has set in. I blame you for making me work it out.

ThedementedPenguin · 06/09/2013 19:57

I used wipes from the word go. I didn't bother with cotton wool and water seemed like such a faff.

Maternity pads I used Tesco own brand ones. They were very good. I bleed for about 6 weeks.

We were given a top and tail bowl I found it very good for putting cotton wool in from bath or after cleaning ds' eyes as they were bad for 3 months.

keep wow 12 weeks, won't be long until your holding baby Smile

ScrambledSmegs · 06/09/2013 20:25

To be honest it was because you guys hit the top of Active convos when I was looking Blush Sorry!

Er, preggo/birth tips? I don't know much about c-sections, as I had them 'naturally' (ha-fucking-ha) both times. I do know that the right pants are paramount to people who have them though. The last thing you want is a pair that irritate your scar. Might be worth asking people who did have them what type/brand they recommend?

I do recommend taking Floradix instead of the iron tabs the NHS dole out. If the baby comes out the way it went in Wink then the last thing you want is constipation. Floradix is more easily absorbed than iron tablets too, so you may find that your iron levels go back to normal more quickly on it.

Oh, and it will definitely probably sting when you pee. Have a jug of warm water to hand to pour over your bits while you go!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 06/09/2013 20:36

My advice, don't worry/force the scary first poo, drink plenty of water, eat well, let nature (and gravity) take its course and moist toilet tissue is your friend!! Yy to the pee jug, I used a sports bottle (with the little spout) just for aim you see Grin

Sweetie how can it be so soon Shock do you want me to bring the sleeping bags to the meet up or I can post them to you?

RubberBullets · 06/09/2013 20:42

Also you will probably hear lots of horror stories about painful first poo/stingy wee/sore nipples from breastfeeding, it isn't guaranteed. I had no problem with any of those even though I had stitches so try not to worry too much about it. I had a 4 day labour instead to make up for it

SweetieTime · 06/09/2013 21:29

boo I had totally forgot about the sleeping bags. if it isn't too much hassle to bring them to the meet up. Otherwise I am sure we could arrange a meet up at Meadowhall when I start mat leave Wink

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 06/09/2013 22:03

I will bring them with me, we should also arrange a meet up anyway if you're ok to drive :):)

cartoontrickster · 07/09/2013 07:47

maybe what was the book called?
oh my god keep I totally forgot about your job, how was it do you like it?
wow sweetie not long for you either.
so that means that another 19wks brings me up to 40wks and as I keep telling dh its not impossible that treats will be here early.
I am absolutely horrified about this warm water for weeing Shock . it was on the essentials list that maybe sent me too. better have a good sports bottle handy then. Confused
I think I've already exceeded the number of sleepsuits/baby grows they say you need. there just too damn cute! obviously family members have been buying too. then of course ill need loads more once we know what flavour treats is Wink .
oh maybe I got the cow snowsuit! mil brought me it.

OP posts:
NoMaybeAboutIt · 07/09/2013 09:16

Yes Trix!! It's too cute!! If I could get away with dressing up as a cow, I so would!! The book is 'your pregnancy week by week' by Lesley Regan.

Morning all!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 07/09/2013 09:53

Morning :)

Wink
ThedementedPenguin · 07/09/2013 09:57

trix I never used a water bottle or jug. As long as you drink plenty of fluids you should be fine without.

I love buying baby clothes and I really don't think you can have too many. I actually had loads of stuff so it meant I didn't stress out loads trying to get everything washed as we had nothing.

I've been having some very strange dreams this past week.

It's such a miserable day today. Don't think ill be doing very much.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 07/09/2013 10:28

Pen I have such strange dreams now. I just don't know where they come from!!

Please tell me that the constant toilet trips in the night will settle soon. 4 times last night! And then everytime i got up, the pup would want a cuddle. All good practice though right Wink

Boo I've been squeezing like a good-un Grin
