The one where hopefully we are feeling less nauseous and knackered (although we develop hippo hands and feet due to the heat!), we are entering or are in our second trimester (phew!), we continue with 12 week scans and test results (ekkk!), we have 16 week midwife appointments and hear the heartbeat (OMG - aw!), we potentially see the beginnings of bumps and feel the first flutters of movement (wow!) and the 20 week scan for some is just around the corner! Grin

Oh and we try to improve our diets after surviving on one food group during the first trimester!!! Wink

Bring it on thread 7!!!

(pod hope I did you proud)!

OMG just scared myself stupid looking at the NCT advice on baby slings and what position the baby should be in. It didn't actually give a "this is the best type" but said most on the market don't support where they should which is just great!

How can EVERYTHING be so complicated and you need to research and almost gain a degree in baby stuff in order to feel happy with your purchases! This is supposed to be fun and it's turning out to be really quite stressful! Am sure I will chill out more if we have a second, but as it's the first, really want to get as much as I can right!

Good luck Tooth! Let us know how you get on ... x

Sultan - there are some good sling threads on here with recommendations. The outward facing ones (crotch danglers) don't offer the support to baby. The traditional wrap slings are good and many different types of holds. I've got a preformed but like a wrap sling called 'closer' which was fab for dd and very comfy. I only used it whe she was small and never outward facing. Then I got ergo baby sling (be careful of fakes). This is brilliant and I still use it on my back with her in (it rests on hips) in hindsight I could of used this from birth with insert

Sultanajo · 23/07/2013 17:17

Thanks bunt. I was just looking at this one and thought - that looks nice and secure and relatively easy to use and DH would probably wear it also. Then I saw the price....however, I guess if we use it it's worth it...

Hello, I'm back!

Toby ELCS doesn't sound ideal, but must be nice to hear the heartbeat, though. After the first scan, I kinda missed seeing them and was wondering what they've been up to, so it was nice to listen to them chugging away like a little train today!

Oh yes, so mw appointment was today and everything was tickety boo. Got given a bunch of appointments, forms etc, to do/remember. Just what my preggo brain needs! I'm so hopeless, I didn't even realise the hospital had already kindly scheduled by 20 wk scan for me! Duh!

Humpty good luck with your mw appointment!

BuntCadger · 23/07/2013 18:07

Sultan - that looks like a comfy one. Def worth checking reviews and doing homework. Also depends on how long you want to use it for, for me I still use one for dd and she's 21m, often easier that buggy and great for beach etc. I'm also a bit of a 'hippy mum', baby wearing, reusable nappies, bfing natural term, blw, cosleeping type. Wink Re cost, preloved ones on eBay can be great depending on how much use they've seen I guess. As I said I hindsight I should've of gone straight for ergo sling but as I couldn't 'try one' in the shop, I was nervous of spending that much straight off. I may try the traditional wrap slings with Zom but not sure yet.

Mac2014 · 23/07/2013 18:14

Hi ladies,

Hope you're all ok.

Just had a call from my midwife. Whilst my downs results say I'm low risk it came back 1 in 220, NT measurement was 1.6 - absolutely fine, my bloods bought the odds up. I had got my head round this, but on the phone she mentioned that my hormone levels were higher than normal so they want to book in extra scans. This is to check the size of the baby as there is a chance the hormones could affect the placenta and cause the baby to grow less (fat wise not development in general). I now have a 20 week consultant appt and a 32 week scan with a consultant being booked in. I just wanted to ask if any of you had been booked in for similar?

I never seem to think of positive posts ... at the moment I just seem to be worrying madly about everything. I spose my high hormone levels might explain that one!!

Hugs to all x

TarkaTheOtter · 23/07/2013 18:20

Hi mac - I had exactly that with dd but because my nt measurement was higher my risk was 1/160. In the end I moved across the country and never had the extra scan as new hospital weren't bothered by it. As it happened I was diagnosed with gd anyway so was in the lucky position of being equally worried about low and high birthweight at the same time! In the end she was 7lbs exactly and perfect.

TarkaTheOtter · 23/07/2013 18:25

sultana I have a moby wrap which is great for newborns and an ergo which we still use comfortably on long walks with our 17 month old. I can recommend both. The ergo is pretty foolproof whereas the moby took some practice but lots of videos on YouTube. In terms of safety just need to make sure that babies chin is not pushed down towards chest and you have them nice and high so you can kiss the top of their head.
Also had a bjorn for a while but found it uncomfortable once dd was about 4 months.

TarkaTheOtter · 23/07/2013 18:27

Ps NCT shop is not very competitive on price so shop around.

BookTart · 23/07/2013 18:33

Oh god, I haven't even got the courage to look at pushchairs yet, let alone slings! Is there is a sling library near you toby, maybe you could try a few out before you buy?

Sorry to hear about the extra worry mac, but at least they are monitoring the situation for you and should be able to nip any problems in the bud hopefully.

Can I ask how often everyone hears from their midwife? I'm 16 weeks today, and haven't heard from her for 5 weeks now, and that was to cancel my last appointment. I've tried calling and sending texts, but she hasn't replied to either. I've got no 16 week appointment or 20 week scan booked yet, and more worryingly I still don't have my combined test results from a month ago. Is there anyone else that could help me with all these results and appointments, or do I just have to wait for her? It is making me quite stressed now, and I sort of feel that she should be making more effort as she wrote that I have ante-natal anxiety in my notes. Am I being hormonal and unreasonable?

TarkaTheOtter · 23/07/2013 18:44

booktart can you contact the hospital directly about your results and scan - that's how it works round here anyway.

Is your midwife based in gp surgery? Can you ring up reception and make an appt that way. If not, can you get gp to chase midwife?

Sultanajo · 23/07/2013 18:50

Hey mac - wish I had some words of wisdom for you. Its good they are keeping tabs on you though....fingers crossed its just all precautionary. Very natural to worry! HTH.

book it seems to depend on the area. I dont hear from my midwife (actually havent met my actual midwife yet), but my 20 week scan was booked at my 12 week scan at the hospital and my 16 week midwife appointment was arranged at my booking appointment. Is your midwife based at the hospital? Can you call their main number and ask?

OP posts:
MrsVDB · 23/07/2013 18:50

book if you look on your notes there should be a few numbers on the front. I would call antenatal clinic as well.

Sultanajo · 23/07/2013 18:51

tarka thanks very much for the sling tips. Great to hear others experiences! Will definitely be checking out reviews and shopping around! Lots to keep us busy me thinks!,Grin

BookTart · 23/07/2013 18:56

Cheers everyone. Midwife is a community midwife, so she moves from place to place but I saw her for booking in at the childrens' centre up to road. I'll try the hospital for the results tarka, that's a good idea and I can hassle them about my 20 weeks scan at the same time. The only other numbers on my notes are the other community midwives. I could try one of those, but I'm a bit scared of making her cross (wuss!)

Naturegirl82 · 23/07/2013 18:59

Probably completely mad but I'm about to view a puppy. Everyone keeps telling me I'm mental but I'm so excited! Still not managed to catch up since hols but hoping everyone is ok.

Sultanajo · 23/07/2013 19:03

book I would be the same, but I think you have patiently waited long enough! Nothing wrong with asking the question of one of the others. Yours may be on holiday....

nature ekkkk, a cute squishy puppy! What type of puppy? Where are u going to see it? How old? Grin

OP posts:
BookTart · 23/07/2013 19:09

nature A PUPPY! I will be requiring pictures, obviously.

sultanajo I will commence Operation Nag tomorrow. I can't tell people until I at least know that the NT results were okay, so I need to know really.

shobro · 23/07/2013 19:31

I don't think we get a 16 week appointment here. I got my 20 week scan at 12 week one but was told then my next appointment was the 20 week scan unless we had any problems.

TobyLerone · 23/07/2013 20:11

Humpty yes, because of the sodding fibroids. They're pretty big. The top of my uterus is above my belly button already, when it should be about halfway between belly button and pelvis. And one of them is right over my cervix and she doesn't hold out much hope for it moving much.
Deffo did not want a section :( Still, we don't always get to choose! I'll also have scans at 20/28/32/34/36 weeks. I just wanted a quiet home birth!

Re headaches, she suggested those cool packs you stick on your head. And some 4Head, which is a stick you rub on your head which is meant to help. We'll see. But apparently I wasn't the first patient to complain of headaches today.

My DS risk was 1:650 and the risk of the other 2 was 1:52000. Book, apparently the WHH still haven't sorted their issues. The mw called while I was there to get my results because I hadn't heard anything either. I never had my proper scan report through the post either, like they promised. Mw told me to call the ultrasound dept and that they might give me a 20 week scan date while I'm on the phone.

sarahleanne · 23/07/2013 20:53

reading all this stuff on prams and slings has prompted me to write my baby list. ive spent the whole evening researching on the internet and making notes, sad I know.
ive worked out the total spend for baby no.3 will be £505.92.... whyyyy did I give all my old baby stuff to the charity shop dammit lol.

sorry to hear about the elcs toby!!

fryingpantoface · 23/07/2013 21:00

Hi :-)

I have a Kari-Me sling, used it with ds since he was 3 days old. Still use it now and he's 2 in September :)

Anyone else finding their appetite is totally off? I've still not put on all the weight since my sickness bug, I only put on 2lbs since then. DH is starting to worry.

I don't have a 16 week appointment, as we have DS, I get seen less. I had my bloods at 10 weeks at my booking in. My scan at 12 weeks, next appointment is at 18 weeks, then the scan 2 weeks later.

MrsVDB · 23/07/2013 21:30

frying I'm obese so it might be a bit different but I've nearly lost a stone and half and still losing it slowly. 14w tomorrow

Bikey86 · 23/07/2013 21:31

Hi

I really have sympathy for MrsA and Frizz as I too have had a day of feeling awful, lots of nausea, dry stretching and I just feel exhausted. Dh and I had a silly argument over a window and I then proceeded to cry all the way through my tea. I just could not stop, dh kept asking what was wrong (which made me worse) and looking at Mr strangely. He thinks I've gone mad and to be honest, I feel like I have gone mad. I just don't feel like myself!!!

As a first time mum all this talk of prams makes me glaze over, I have not got a clue what sort of pram we will need and there are so many makes and models out there!!! So confusing!!

Xx
