The one where hopefully we are feeling less nauseous and knackered (although we develop hippo hands and feet due to the heat!), we are entering or are in our second trimester (phew!), we continue with 12 week scans and test results (ekkk!), we have 16 week midwife appointments and hear the heartbeat (OMG - aw!), we potentially see the beginnings of bumps and feel the first flutters of movement (wow!) and the 20 week scan for some is just around the corner! Grin

Oh and we try to improve our diets after surviving on one food group during the first trimester!!! Wink

Bring it on thread 7!!!

(pod hope I did you proud)!

MrsGSR · 30/07/2013 16:02

gobbo I remember you as well :)

I saw pod on another thread this week, so she is around. I hope she's ok.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 30/07/2013 16:15

Oh you are all kind [grin

I had a GTT test due to my uncle being diabetic. Was fine - if slightly puke inducing. Top tip - do not sit next to
WRVS cafe bit whilst waiting for test. The smell of toast is not good when you've been fasting for 12 hours!

Not having it this time due to NHS cutbacks but not too worried.

Sultanajo · 30/07/2013 16:16

humpty yep sounds familiar! I cant work it out in days but sjould have 3.5 months left which seems manageable, although working until 1am sunday morning isnt gonna be fun!,Sad Ah well, shit happens! Roll on 20 week scan for some excitement (hopefully!)

gobbo how could we forget u! Nice to have u back and great to hear u r feeling better despite the horrible reflux!!! Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 30/07/2013 16:42

Oooh, gobbo I have the GTT test end of Sept. Luckily our waiting area is not by any kind of cafe... However, I may still vom - I HAVE to eat first thing or I feel like Satan all day. I might book that day off work...

Also - not having 'due to cutbacks'? WTAF? That's pretty appalling, I thought everyone at risk had it? You can have mine

TarkaTheOtter · 30/07/2013 16:46

NICE guidelines don't recommend the GTT for family history only unless it is a first degree relative so an uncle wouldn't count.

MrsGSR · 30/07/2013 16:50

I'm not having the GTT until 28 weeks, which seems really late! Going down to visit my dad this weekend so I might get him to check my blood sugar levels just so I have an idea of weather or not I should worry! My stomach seems huge so I'm already panicking about having a baby like the one in the article!

Sultanajo · 30/07/2013 17:23

Good luck humpty! I would book the day off too! Not worth risking a crappy day at work made worse by feeling like satan!

Finally the work day is over and can now get ready to go swimming with DH! Got to "de-feather" everywhere and cut my toe nails before we go! Is anyone else finding their finger and toe nails are growing at a ridiculous rate? I am having to deal with them both weekly which is unheard of - normally they last at least 3 weeks before they need any maintenance!

OP posts:
HumptyDumptyBumpty · 30/07/2013 17:43

tarka oh, I see - gobbo is that your only risk factor? I have a 'slightly raised BMI' Grin according to my very tactful mw, which is why I'm having one.

MrsG it seems late to me too - I suppose if it only affects things then, fair enough. God knows, if they tell me to stop eating cake, I'd rather they do it later than sooner...

sultana SO FAST. My fingernails are like a witches. I cut them off on Monday so there was no white showing, they are now about 1mm of white on each nail. In 36 HOURS.

Bluecarrot · 30/07/2013 17:50

Yup- my fingernails are growing stupidly fast ( like cutting twice a week!) plus my body hair is growing v fast too :( I had to give up and bleach facial hair yesterday. I know its potentially not good for baby, but I figure all the stuff that I'm absorbing or breathing in ( car fumes etc) then one go of bleach every few weeks will be fine. I don't have the patience for plucking literally over 100 dark hairs from face and neck :(

Watched a fascinating TED talk yesterday about what babies learn while stil in the womb. See linky...

www.ted.com/talks/annie_murphy_paul_what_we_learn_before_we_re_born.html

MrsGSR · 30/07/2013 17:51

sultana I hadn't thought about it before, but my fingernails are surprisingly long considering I break them by being clumsy quite regularly!
humpty I've been craving mainly savory things, but I made some really nice biscuits this weekend, don't want to have to give them up!

Sultanajo · 30/07/2013 18:01

Hmmm, my bmi is raised and they dont seem fussed on testing me, but then I have no family history of diabetes....

Glad its not just me! My body hair is,too! Actually having problems seeing my bikini line properly without a mirror due to bloat and massive boobs! Its a revelation and made me realise how nice it is normally to be able to see it! Wont ever take it for granted again! Grin

OP posts:
Frogcatcher · 30/07/2013 18:08

Ridiculous growth of everything here too. I found an eyebrow hair that was (I kid you not) at least an inch long! My fingernails have always been strong so could pass for falsies right now if I painted them!

sarahleanne · 30/07/2013 18:34

gobo I remember you too. my daughter had bad reflux as a newborn, literally couldn't keep milk down for more than 2 minutes and was eventually admitted into hospital for losing so much weight!! ranitidine is SHIT, omeprazole was the only thing that helped her I don't know why they didn't give it to us straight away!!

im hairy too and ive lost my tweezers dammit!! stupid eyebrows!!

on another totally serperate note, were getting the keys to our new house tomorrow and I cannot bloody wait. I am going to be working the rest of the week and trying to move house which will be great fun not

hope everyone is having a lovely evening Grin

Frizz1986 · 30/07/2013 19:15

Wow its hard catching up sometimes.

pop we are appointment date buddies. I have my 16 week app tomorrow at 1:30pm (really hope they do a heartbeat as I am not convinced that all is ok in there - think the coming and going half hard half soft bump doesnt help) and I have my 20 week scan on 23rd august (although i will be exactly 20 weeks that day)

Had a crazy thought. Me and dh got engaged on 24th august last year and the day before the anniversary of our engagement we are exactly halfway through our first pg. What a year!! (Think he knew we would be married and have kids fast though, thats why it took over 6 years to propose)

Names wise i cant remember who liked evelyn but i love that name, doesnt work with my surname though, well evie/eve doesnt.

Think someone else mentioned eleanor which is one of our girls names along with aurelia (its from pans labyrinth movie). However we cant pick a boys name at all (and we are convinced it will be a boy) Not telling anyone in rl what names we have. Think we will have joyce as a middle name for a girl (after my nan) or maybe jocelyn (after dhs granny). I feel rather naughty telling you lot but dh need never know Wink

Exciting about the house sarahl hope they leave it clean for you and you enjoy all the unpacking (i love unpacking and always have everything unpacked and in its place within a few days)

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 30/07/2013 19:17

I don't think I should have had it in the first place. The GTT lady looked a bit surprised when I said who the relative was. I had a very over zealous midwife at my first booking in app. I had her again for the second and she booked me back in. However, I'm now going with one2one midwives and they cancelled it - said due to cutbacks they were only testing if it was parental.

However, apparently some regions are trialling everyone having it

humpty - you are too kind Grin

TobyLerone · 30/07/2013 19:25

Ha, Frizz :) Fast is good! We got engaged on 11th Aug last year, married in January and the baby is due a week before our first wedding anniversary.
Aurelia is also on our list.

Good to see you back, Gobbo :)

Lovely news about the house, sarahl! Congratulations.

I feel like wet string tonight. Like my arms are too heavy to even lift. This is the 3rd time this pregnancy that this has happened. The first time I thought I was having a stroke!

lovelilies · 30/07/2013 19:34

frizz please come and live near me! Will need your unpacking skills in a few weeks Grin
Just packed up 8 years worth of belongings crap (Renting our my house from Thursday) to love in with DP, we're renting somewhere together. So most of the stuff is in storage til references etc come through and we're offered a tenancy (fx) and in the meantime we're holed up at my mum's! Her and DP do not get on plus he's allergic to her cat Sad

lovelilies · 30/07/2013 19:39

Hows this for fast?
DP fancied me from afar for a few months but I had my heart set on migrating to Oz with DD... finally succumbed to a date... 1st kiss on Christmas eve Grin ... fell madly in love...decided to have a family began TTC in April, BFP in May!
Everyone thinks we're nuts Grin Grin but I'm 32, he's 41, hardly a pair of teenagers!

TarkaTheOtter · 30/07/2013 19:46

mrsgsr 28 weeks is normal for GTT they only tend to test earlier if you have glucose in your urine or have had gd in a previous pregnancy. In normal circumstances it doesn't materialise til towards the end of the second trimester. If they do happen to discover it earlier they often say it is pre-existing type 2 diabetes not gd.

Although it is very upsetting not eating cake, I'd rather have gd than other complications because it is 100% treatable. If diet doesn't work, the prescribe metformin, if that doesn't work insulin. It is only causes problems if it is untreated, if treated (good glycemic control) your risk of complications is the baseline risk.

sarahleanne · 30/07/2013 20:09

just looked at the stats thread for January...there are 88 ladies on there!! where is everyone?!? don't be shy ladies haha

BuntCadger · 30/07/2013 20:28

Re GD I had it with ds1, had some abnormal bloods with ds2 but not bad enough to be GD, same with dd. never had GTT with dd and not having one this time either as I monitor bloods at home. Bloods been fine so far but bmi was normal which had impact. I'm under consultant led care but he isn't seeing me now till 28 weeks and said I only need test once a week.. I've been crap and forgetting. Ill test tomoz.

Was me with name Eleanor. Paranoid it'll be in top 10 or something, I keep picking names that are popular. Quite likes Merida too but perhaps to Disney ;)

Penny31 · 30/07/2013 20:36

So the car seat arrived and we couldn't resist trying it out, even though its still super early. Well, it ended up in a domestic on the drive, followed by uncontrollable laughter! We just couldn't figure the damn thing out. It's not supposed to be this complicated?! We are clearly useless.

Sultanajo · 30/07/2013 21:13

frog I kid u not, discovered an inch long hair on my cheek and another on my upper arm! Must remember to cut them off!!!

sarahl how exciting! Really hope the move goes well!

Good luck for your appointments tomorrow ladies! Fingers crossed for happy heartbeats! Grin

Well made it swimming and came back with heartburn from hell! Cue Sultanas magic mint choc chip ice cream milkshake and again it has worked a treat within seconds! Need to be careful I dont pack on the pounds but its so worth it for now to not have the horrible reflux and burn!!! Grin

Sultanajo · 30/07/2013 21:16

penny that cracked me up! I can just imagine! Kiddicare do free fitting so think we will go there to buy our car seat and get someone who knows what they are doing to fit it, especially as my car doesnt have isofix points.....

We are hopefully going to get the pram tomorrow as its on sale! Grin
