JK10 (from memory so may not be 100% accurate) it is a bacteria - they are present naturally in some woman's vags.

The bacteria can pass to baby during a vaginal birth and cause an infection which can actually cause the baby to die. There were 2 very high profile cases of this in NI about 2 yrs ago - two mums who had completely healthy pregnancies, lost their babies. They were unaware they had Strep B (so weren't given antibiotics) and were pushing for the NHS to screen all pregnant women (which is routine in US). It didn't go through. I'll get tested privately this time.

For your hospital to be aware you were Strep B and not to give antibiotics (which is the solution to it) through labour is shocking, in fact negligent. No wonder your m/w was angry.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/07/2013 23:44

Yes. Around 30% of women are infected IIRC, many dont know. It's a fairly harmless infection, but if it is passed to the baby just before or during labour it can cause the baby to be very poorly.
If I was you, and what I am planning to do, is make sure everyone you meet during antenal and labour knows you tested positive last time. You should get a swab at around 36 weeks? I think, and then if it is present, you'll need IV antibiotics ever 4 hours during labour.
I was reading up on this yesterday, and I'm fairly sure that's accurate, I'm in the bath and haven't got the energy to go check! Grin
There is a group B strep society. It's easily googleable.

Morning all,

I'm shattered today, my DD who normally sleeps beautifully was up between midnight and 2am - and I eventually managed to fall back asleep at 4:30, but my alarm went off at 5 to get ready for work - not sure how I'm going to manage today.

Also feeling really nauseas today, seems like my symptoms have decided to step it up a gear.

YY to the spots! I've got some huge ones that have decided to erupt on my jaw line, and have eczema pop up on my right hand - between that and the bloating I don't feel fit for human consumption, and just want to crawl into a little cave and hide.

AndieDisestablishment · 22/07/2013 07:40

No spots here. I have dry skin though, probably dehydrated from all the weeing I've been doing. Took another test this morning because I started to get paranoid that I'd get to the Dr tomorrow and they'd tell me I was crazy. Went back to sleep after that went positive and have now woken really nauseous so having a cuppa in bed before getting the kids up.

The way I understand GroupB Strep (as explained to me at work last week) is that you could test negative with it one day and positive the next so screening is a bit of false hope unless they're going to do it at least weekly. If you've tested positive before I would hope they'd test you again as a matter of routine.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 22/07/2013 07:55

Gah! I have just woken up on the sofa, where I'd sat to catch up on the TV last night! Confused I had an awful dream as well. I MC again. Sad

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 22/07/2013 08:11

Mummypig hope things Re better this morning.

My spots have returned as well. I've had awful skin since I was a teenager, due to my PCOS, but they cleared up while I was having fertility treatment. Problem is so many people commented on well my skin was looking that they're probably going to notice my regression!

Royal baby on the way too folks - the news made me cry

TWinklyLittleStar · 22/07/2013 08:15

Oh saggy that's horrible, but it's just your subconscious working through your anxieties, not a premonition or anything like that.

mummypig how's things today?

rescoonetwothree · 22/07/2013 08:35

didn't know where you'd all gone! hope all is well!

is group b strep 'streptococcal'?

i have a really sore throat and have for a week or so now, searched sore throat pregnancy on google and found an article about streptococcal that was a bit scary (although probably sensationalist).

been guzzling the lactolose like a madwoman and it seems to be moving things along so to speak - i also have a flat tummy again so am very happy. and it tastes like calpol which is brilliant.

LittleMachine · 22/07/2013 09:07

Off to the doctors today, hopefully for some anti-emetic, can't keep anything down now. Hoping to avoid admission to hospital, as I don't want to leave DS.

I'm ridiculously excited about the royal baby. I didn't even realise I was interested!

MTBMummy · 22/07/2013 09:23

Finding myself strangely excited by the fact that I have to walk past St Mary's on the way home today - although will probably end up getting pissed off if there's a load of press outside

AndieDisestablishment · 22/07/2013 09:29

Aww, saggy pregnancy dreams mess with your head, over the past three nights I've dreamt that my ex husband was back from the dead to batter me again (joyful) and that we were being terrorised in our home by skinheads.

IceNoSlice · 22/07/2013 09:31

My skin, normally pretty good, is terrible too - hopefully a short term thing?!

MummyPig24 · 22/07/2013 09:34

Still got bloody discharge, not as much though. Aching in my tummy. Got a gp appt at 10.50. My one friend I have told is taking me and looking after dd whilst I'm in there. This is tough, I haven't told anyone but her and I can't drive so if I have to go to hospital it's gonna be interesting! Hope everyone is good today!

MortifiedAdams · 22/07/2013 09:37

Good luck today Mummy

MTBMummy · 22/07/2013 09:49

Fingers crossed for you Mummy x

Rockchick1984 · 22/07/2013 09:56

My skin was awful when I had DS and again when I had the miscarriage. It's been ok so far this time, fingers crossed!!

Rockchick1984 · 22/07/2013 09:57

MortifiedAdams · 22/07/2013 10:21

Is anyone else lacking in appetite? I am forcing myself to eat little bits to stave off the sick feeling but I fancy no foods Sad

babybear9 · 22/07/2013 10:25

rescoonetwothree · 22/07/2013 10:35

mortified i'm the same, my dp's pretty much bought out the entire supermarket in the hope there will be something i will want - i look in the cupboards and i don't fancy anything at all!

rescoonetwothree · 22/07/2013 10:35

also hope all goes well mummypig!

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 22/07/2013 10:40

Hope your GP does the right thing and refers you quickly Mummypig

So, on the TMI front, how are everyone's, er, bowel movements? I keep reading about constipation being a problem, but honestly I seem to have the complete opposite problem Blush

LittleMachine · 22/07/2013 11:20

Thinking of you MummyPig.
