Baby was fine with a beating heart. I am 6 weeks. Just waiting to see the dr now. So pleased but the sonographer was a bit abrupt and didn't really speak!

Beccadugs · 23/07/2013 12:00

Hooray mummyp

FrankelInFoal · 23/07/2013 12:04

Hurrah Mummypig so pleased for you Grin

Riirii, welcome aboard! Every NHS trust is different but many GPs are quite happy to take your word that you have a positive pregnancy test and refer you straight on to the midwives. My GP surgery didn't even give me an appointment, they just gave me the midwives' phone number!

To be honest there is not a lot they can/will do at this stage. All they could do is get you to pee in a pot and test that, but you've already had a positive so there is little point.

I'm afraid it seems to be a waiting game for now until we get our booking in appointments at around 8 weeks. Do you have a date for your midwife appointment?

rosyryan · 23/07/2013 12:16

What a relief MummyPig! I'm so glad for you.

Welcome Rii! I had the same experience as Frank - you don't even get a doctors appointment with our trust. It's such a long wait until the booking in appointment - but trust in the pee stick and try to stay upbeat!

JBrd · 23/07/2013 12:17

Hurray, MummyP, so happy for you! What a relief this must be! Did the measurements add up to your calculations?

riirii Welcome and congratulations! The doctor should have referred you straight away to the midwife, did you tell them you're pg when making the appointment? The doctors would only use the same pg test that you used at home (or more likely, a cheaper version)! It's really the midwife that you need to speak to, who will hopefully give you the guidance that you are after. As long as you are taking folic acid and watch what you eat and drink, that's pretty much all for now... When are you seeing the midwife? Happy waiting Grin

GO MUMMY! GO MUMMY! GO MUMMY! YAY! Grin

FrankelInFoal · 23/07/2013 12:24

Was anyone else told to make sure that they take extra Vitamin D too? When I called my fertility clinic they said to make sure I took a supplement with both FA and Vit D. She said it was new NHS advice.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/07/2013 12:33

I was last time. I figured it was because I am a fat bird!

FrankelInFoal · 23/07/2013 12:37

The nurse said it was because of concerns over the reemergence of diseases like Rickets, so rather than encourage people to get outside a bit more they are telling them to take Vit D.

stephie101 · 23/07/2013 12:52

Hey ladies, just checking in, been so poorly since last wednesday....several dr's visits as cant keep food in...its out my mouth and my butt several times a day tmi i know sorry.
was nearly pulled over by police after going on the hard shoulder for 2 miles....then my butt exploded on the side of a slip road...couple of panic attacks and signed off for a week......
feeling very sorry for myself....

holycowwhatnow · 23/07/2013 12:58

I'm 7w+ 6 and last night and this morning I had pinkish brownish discharge when I wiped (sorry). I have no pain. On holidays with ILs and have the slowest broadband ever so can't go back over all the pages. Is this the beginning of the end? I have a scan booked next tues but will be home from holidays on thurs.Should I try to get a scan on fri? Is there any point? Had just got to the point where I had wrapped my head around this very surprise pregnancy and very excite de. Why o why did I tell my 12 yr old the news? He'll be absolutely gutted if this is over.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/07/2013 13:03

Holy It doesn't need to be the beginning of the end. You could have a cervical erosion. The hormones thin the skin of the cervix and it can bleed easily. A scan would put your mind at rest.
I have a 14yo and she knows about the baby. I tell her the clear concise facts and don't hold back on the bad stuff, but in a non emotional way. She is an absolute brick! Your 12yo may well surprise you!

Rockchick1984 · 23/07/2013 13:12

Holy not necessarily anything to worry about, loads of people have had bleeding already on this thread and all has been fine. Unless its accompanied by bad cramps or is heavy red and clotting chances are it'll be ok however I'd try to move the scan personally so you're not worrying for as long.

Stephie hope the dr can help, that sounds awful! I've had a dodgy tummy since BFP however I normally get some warning (and don't venture too far from a toilet!).

Yay for Mummy and Saggy!!!

Riirii you don't get any real confirmation of pregnancy other than your home pregnancy test until your 12 week scan, that's why a lot of women choose to pay for a private scan earlier. Go on the NHS pregnancy pages and you can check all the things you should and shouldn't do while pregnant.

goldielocks23 · 23/07/2013 13:44

Hi ladies,

I'm new here, got my BFP last Friday, will (hopefully!) be a first time Mum by the end of March. Just thought I'd share a few things with you that you might be able to advise me on:

Before I got pregnant I was really positive about starting a family, and although my husband and I were pleasantly surprised to get a positive test so soon (came off pill four and a half weeks ago), I've not really felt happy at all, just overwhelmed and exhausted! I assume this is normal, but it's a bummer, because I want to feel happy, but I just don't!

I've had occasional weird but non-severe twinges in odd places that feel like nerve endings, e.g. the odd twinge in my left heel, right buttock, back, anywhere really. Any idea what this could be? No bleeding, so assuming not serious. I also got tingly hands a bit which I read isn't uncommon in pregnancy on various sites. I'm really tired and struggling to concentrate on my work (I'm a research student) and end up just going to bed a lot.

I've caught a cold straight away and assume I can't take any medicine because I can't check with my GP yet as my first appointment is booked for next week. Any non-medicinal tips for surviving blocked noses, sneezing and sore throat etc?

Can someone reassure me that these are all normal symptoms?! Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, just getting the hang of the site. :-)

FrankelInFoal · 23/07/2013 14:01

Welcome goldie and congratulations on getting your BFP so quickly!

Everything you describe sounds completely normal, particularly the tiredness. As far as medication goes, you can take ordinary paracetamol but that's about it I'm afraid.

Try not to Google different symptoms too much as quite often you end up finding the worst case scenario and making yourself feel ten times worse. If you have specific concerns then I'd go direct to the NHS website to check there.

MummyPig24 · 23/07/2013 14:43

Holy this is what I've had, progressing to light period like red bleeding. Had a scan today and baby is fine! Have hope and take it easy.

I'm so pleased my little baby is doing what it should be. I only got home at 2 and had the best sandwich I have ever had, I was starving!!

Coolhand · 23/07/2013 15:03

So delighted Mummy!

Goldie for many people the exhaustion/nausea etc goes at the end of first trimester. I didn't believe it last time but mine disappeared bang on 12/13 weeks - hopefully it'll work that way for you. I also have a cold - not taking anything except some ginger tea which I find comforting.

Yes, whoever mentioned Vit D - it is a requirement and also when you're breastfeeding (with formula it's included). It has apparently been official NHS advice for at least 3 yrs but many women haven't been told - heard a segment on Woman's Hour one day - if you take a supplement like Pregnacare it's included.

Coolhand · 23/07/2013 15:07

Becca how are you doing? Did you have the scan in hospital? Maybe I missed your update. What about the vomiting?

Beccadugs · 23/07/2013 15:21

Hi Coolhand, I don't think I did update Blush!
The doctor was worried that it was a molar pregnancy as the sickness is so severe. BUT everything is done! Saw a little baby (only one!!) and it's all in the right place etc. phew!
Have more meds to try to control the nausea, which aren't working yet!

Souredstoneshasasouredpebble · 23/07/2013 15:21

WOOHOO! mummy!!

RugbyWidow7 · 23/07/2013 15:53

Yay mummy and saggy! V pleased you've had great scans.

Saggy, I'm on lactulose too. Thank goodness! BUT I have developed the worst wind with it Blush kept me up half the night. Not sure whether to drop the dosage right down, but I only started it yesterday...

No twins on the thread yet then ...Smile

RugbyWidow7 · 23/07/2013 15:55

Yay becca too and fingers crossed your meds kick in soon!

RugbyWidow7 · 23/07/2013 15:55

AndieDisestablishment · 23/07/2013 16:07

So glad everything is ok MummyP

I had my pointless Dr appointment today too Rii I knew they wouldnt do anything other than put me the midwife's referral system as it's the same trust I booked with when having my DS (was a different trust when having my DD and they just booked my 8 week booking straight away) Dr is going to ask midwife to see me next week instead of waiting a fortnight though as with DD they didn't pay attention when I said my last period had only been light and when I got to my booking I was 12 weeks and Dr could hear a heartbeat wit the doppler! So, as this time I had another strangely light period and had an MMR for work two months ago (eek) she's recommending I get an early dating scan.

How's everyone feeling today?

IceNoSlice · 23/07/2013 16:19

Andie I had the strangely light last period with my last pg. based my dates on that and we were 14 weeks at the first scan! In hindsight I think it was an implantation bleed.

goldie I think the 'I should feel happy but I don't' thing is pretty common. I think it's such big news to take in, we often don't really get our heads round it at first. I think when you first see an image at the first scan it makes it more real. And hot lemon helps me when I have a cold (i like just lemon slices in hot water. If you have the lemsip ones watch for paracetamol doses).
