Can I join too? I'm 26 and 23 weeks pregnant. Due 15/11. My birthday is 25/11 when I turn 27 so I hope baby isn't 10 days late!

Have been with DP for 4.5 years now. Unlike some of you we've been lucky - everyone we told the news asked us how long we'd been trying rather than if it was an accident. We would love to get married but we can't afford it. Buying a house is first on the list when we win the lottery

How's everyone doing? I've been suffering with the weather - can't sleep at night and my feet are twice their normal size. Baby is doing well though; had a midwife appointment yesterday and he/she is very active. We don't know the sex as they couldn't see it during the scan. So it'll be a surprise.

MissHC · 24/07/2013 12:11

Oh yes and this is our first! DP and I are super excited!

Gerty1002 · 24/07/2013 12:21

Hi MissHC and congratulations :).

In the same boat as you with not being able to afford to get married - though we hope to have a low key wedding a year or two after baby is born. A big fairytale wedding is no longer my dream, I just want to be married to DP and to have a little celebration with close friends and family :).

I'm 34+5 today - am I the furthest along out of all of you? Eek!

Midwife appointment tomorrow, baby is lying diagonally so hope to find out what will happen if he doesn't straighten himself up - really want to avoid an ELCS if possible.

MummaPanda · 24/07/2013 13:02

Those of you who can't afford to get married, weddings don't have to cost a lot, me and hubby got married for about £200 all together, including my dress and everything. Family and friends pitched in, I made invites and programmes and cakes etc at home, and we had a friend on a photography course who did our photos. And it was absolutely perfect! So if your smart about it doesn't have to cost a lot at all! Smile

Gerty1002 · 24/07/2013 13:12

Crikey £200?! I'm not even sure we could even get our local town hall (which is the plan) for that!

scoutfinch1 · 25/07/2013 11:30

Gerty I think at 40+2 I'm the furthest along. Hope baby shifts positions for you. There is a website called spinning babies that is always recommended on MN for encouraging babies to get into a better position. Might be worth a look.

Two days overdue and very uncomfortable and impatient. I was convinced baby was going to be two weeks early too, shows how wrong I was. Keeping my fingers crossed this baby makes an appearance soon.

I'm another one who is also planning a wedding, not got round to booking yet but looking at getting married next winter. MummyPanda £200? If you don't mind me asking where did you get married to manage to do it for that. Like Gerty says I don't think £200 would cover most registry offices.

For those asking about birth plans etc I'm hoping to give birth (soon) in the low risk ward of the hospital (basically the midwifery led unit), possibly a water birth although not setting my hope on it as there is always the chance someone else is in it. I've been using a hypnotherapy CD which has been great in keeping me calm about the birth. Hoping to use some of the techniques from there during labour. Also have a tens machine ready to use. Ideally I'm hoping for no pain relief or just gas and air. Really don't want pethidine as it interferes with bf and don't want to become immobile or more likely to tear due to epidural so not left with many other options. Really want good skin to skin after birth. Keeping my fingers crossed that this all goes to plan but like others have said the most important thing is to stay open minded because things don't always go to plan. If baby doesn't make an appearance soon and I have to be induced alot of this will have to change unfortunately.

Wow, sorry for the long post.

Gerty1002 · 25/07/2013 12:15

oh good luck scoutfinch! I really hope something happens soon for you. It sounds like we have very similar birth plans, fingers crossed we both get our way :).

Got a presenting scan next week to see if he's turned and if not they will offer to try turning him the week after. I'll take a look at that site - thing is he's turning constantly he just refuses to stay the right way haha. little tinker.

itsliz · 25/07/2013 15:31

Oooh, best of luck scoutfinch!

How early/ late into a pregnancy did you start listening to hypnobirthing CDs? And are there any particular ones that you'd recommend?
Just wondered as I keep telling myself to look into it every time I see a post about it on MN!

scoutfinch1 · 25/07/2013 17:29

Thanks itsliz I think I got mine around 28/30 weeks but can't remember exactly, would have been 3rd trimester though. I have the Natal Hypnotherapy one, it's about £10 on amazon although you can get sets with more CDs in for more. Can't say yet how it will work for the birth but would definitely recommend it for keeping me calm and not anxious about the birth.

Gerty Thank you. Haha sounds like you have a cheeky one one your hands. If he is moving round lots might be a good sign that he will get in the right position eventually. Fingers crossed for you

MummaPanda · 26/07/2013 09:32

Ceremony was free as it was at the church we go to, had a small reception just family n close friends at my nans lovely house, found a pretty local park to have our photos in, and I didn't really want a big reception but my MIL and SIL's did so I said if they want that they can sort it out. So they did that as their present to us as they like planning parties and things. Got my dress on ebay, did hair and make up etc. ourselves, ummm, yea! It can be done ladies!

MissHC · 26/07/2013 12:12

£200?? That's amazing!
I think we might end up going on holiday somewhere and get married there. Honeymoon/wedding combined kind of thing.
I'm from abroad (West EU) and if we have a wedding either here or in my home country it would not be accepted to not pay for everyone's food, drinks, etc. I've got a big family. I'd also need to find somewhere where people can stay over for a reasonable price. Also we're on the outskirts of London so prices are already at a premium.

But for now I just want to focus on the baby. Am super excited (and very scared). I think I'll have to look into hypnotherapy. Surely you can find some on Youtube?

Really can't afford to buy CD's now - all tyres on our car need replacing (after a tyre blowout on the M1 on Sunday night! very scary!), we need to buy the pram and car seat, just bought cot bed too. Timing of car tyres is not great. After what happened on Sunday I don't want to buy cheap tyres, but half decent ones amount to almost £500. Ouch.

I'll get some money from my parents for the baby but only once it's actually here and we'll need to order the pram and essentials before then Smile

Was anyone else completely baffled by the hundreds of options available in prams, car seats, cots/cot beds/moses baskets?

Am going to give my GP a call now - I'm supposed to pick up my Mat B1 certificate today but I want to check that they actually have it before I walk all the way there. I need to let my company know by next Wednesday when I want to go on mat leave but I've got no idea! How am I supposed to know what I'll feel like in 2/3 months from now? How long before the due date are you all staying home from? I can only afford to take 6 months mat leave so would like to work as long as possible so I can make the most of my time with the baby.

Gerty1002 · 26/07/2013 14:17

MissHC I'll be officially on maternity leave on Sunday, though I took a week of annual leave before that. That leaves me with 6 weeks before my due date - and tbh I couldn't have struggled on any longer. My job involves being on my feet and rushing around, which in this heat became very difficult from about week 32.

However, I'm lucky to be able to take 9 months off - I'm not sure I would have left so early if I could only take 6.

I think it depends on your job, your health and wellbeing in pregnancy and how long you can afford to take. everyone is different. You can always request to change it if you feel you need to leave earlier than you first thought.

MummaPanda · 26/07/2013 14:57

I'm still on maternity leave from last pregnancy and it ends the day before my due date! But when I was at work I saved all my holiday, and maternity leave started 2weeks before due date, so in total I had 5 weeks off to put my feet up!

Tinkerbellefairy · 26/07/2013 16:13

Hi can I join?

I'm 26 will just be 27 when baby arrives. I'm 12+2 with scan on Monday eek! Have been married a year next week and sympathise with those feeling worried about being looked down upon. I know I am actually at higher end of my 20's but look very young for my age and often get mistaken for a teen. I know it is silly of me to let others opinions bother me as actually have nothing to worry about but the judgemental looks do get to me. Hopefully when babies arrive and they all see what great mums we are we will all get positive responses!

Littleen · 26/07/2013 22:06

Hello guys! :)
My name's Ida, and I'm 25. 9+3 today, so I'm pretty early still.

Been with my boyfriend (DP?) for nearly 4 years now, and it was a planned pregnancy, although it happened much quicker than anticipated :P We're not engaged or anything, but it's pretty common to have babies without a ring here, so nobody minds luckily!

I have just moved to Norway where I am from, but feeling really "homesick" back to England, so I thought I'd feel more home in this forum :)

Gerty1002 · 26/07/2013 22:50

Welcome new folks :) hope your pregnancies are going well.

I'm an emotional wreck today, poor DP has had to deal with a lot of uncontrollable sobbing! pissing hormones

sarahleanne · 27/07/2013 20:37

DS who is 5
DD is 20 months
due date 13th January

JodiLeighLeigh · 28/07/2013 16:59

Hi Everyone - I'm 25 in August coming up. This is my first pregnancy.

Had a job interview Wednesday just gone and that evening ended up doing a HPT due to majorly sore boobs. Turns out I'm expecting. We'd been trying so it's not a huge shock per se, but I'd been expecting to have to wait ages after having an implant for 6 years and not having had a proper period since we had it removed.

Luckily, the interview was with my current employer, so if I do get it, it's not like there'll be any implications on my mat leave, but still feel like I may be taking the micky a little if I get an offer and accept the role, knowing I'll be going on quite a chunk of leave within 8 months and they'll have to recruit again for my cover!

Anyway, I don't have an EDD yet as my docs couldn't fit me in until Thursday, but by my workings, I think I'm about 5 or 6 weeks.

2 questions for anyone who's done this before or is further along than me - are my womb-twinges anything to worry about? They're not painful, but I'm very aware it's there. Also, when will the horrendous backne go away?!?!?

sarahleanne · 28/07/2013 18:47

Jodi the stretching in your uterus is all normal Grin
as long as you don't bleed and start cramping then im sure its all fine. I get it when I stand up too quickly.

RNJ3007 · 28/07/2013 18:53

Hi all! Spotted the thread and thought it was a nice idea.

my basic info is:
age 27
35w2d
edd 30th August
DD was 4 last month.

Gerty1002 · 28/07/2013 19:01

Ooh RNJ we have the same due date :)

I'm 26 in September, first pregnancy.

There's more of us twenty-somethings than we initially thought!

RNJ3007 · 28/07/2013 19:21

Hi Gerty I'm 28 on Tuesday, got a couple of years on you!

Cooling spray ands tower fan are my best friends just now. My DD has chicken pox. I have HG and SPD. Roll on August. Given I'm already 3cm and contracting sporadically, I can't imagine making it to our sharedEDD!

JodiLeighLeigh · 28/07/2013 20:03

sarahleanne...thank you! I do get it when I stand up very quickly so that's so reassuring! Just need to pray all these spots get lost soon now Wink x

Gerty1002 · 29/07/2013 14:19

How exciting, RNJ, have they said baby is at a safe stage to come out now? I think now they are mainly just gaining weight in there aren't they? Dealing with a DD with chicken pox must be exhausting for you! Hope she gets better soon!

Gerty1002 · 29/07/2013 14:22

Oh and Jodi I had terrible skin until around 20 weeks! However I often get hormone related acne regardless of pregnancy, so I was doomed from the start. I had truly lovely skin from about week 20-30 and now they are creeping back :(.
