) ttc with same partner for 3 years! First bfp and im currently 8 weeks :-) x

scoutfinch1 · 18/07/2013 12:48

Hi rosenip. Congratulations! We are having a girl too! So exciting. I was so surprised, I was convinced we were having a boy.

Haylebop12 · 18/07/2013 12:58

Hi

I'm 25 (26 aug) and I'm 27+4 with dc2 who is a boy.

Dd is 4.5 (pg at 20, had her at 21)

I too managed to escape the comments. I have a very supportive family and although dd was a surprise we were ttc number 2 for 13 months with an mc.

newmum my dh works in a prison :-)

I'm a shift manager for a well known supermarket, in their convenience stores. Mat leave starts 28th aug, cannot wait!!!

rescoonetwothree · 18/07/2013 19:03

haylebop what i would give to work in a nice cool supermarket right now, scout my apartment is the same i work from here and i am sure i am melting. it's relentless!

i had my scan today which put me at 5 weeks not 7, saw the little heartbeat Grin! seems a bit weird though as that would mean my bfp i got 4 days after i conceived... i'm sure there's some logical explanation that'll come up soon enough!

i hadn't had it before but i noticed today when we went for the scan the dr was looking down her nose a bit at us - we both dress very casually and are quite young, so i think she had quite a shock when she asked our occupations etc. made me so angry!

scoutfinch1 · 18/07/2013 20:32

greymoose that does sound odd. I had a scan at 8 weeks and the edd i was given was a few days off the one I was given at 12 weeks which I'm nearly 100% is correct. I think the earlier it is the more likelyhood of error so it may change again at your 12 week scan. Congratulations on seeing the heartbeat, it's the most wonderful feeling.

That is horrible, I can't believe the attitude of some people but don't let yourself get cross about it.

Still melting

Haylebop12 · 18/07/2013 20:53

Yep it's lovely and cool in work Grin but I only work 3 days a week and off tomorrow so joining in the melting.

Scout is right, early scans (before 8 weeks) can be inaccurate so you may find your 12 week scan makes more sense on dates. So pleased you saw a hb, lovely isn't it.

Newmum0113 · 18/07/2013 23:19

Had a sneaky mocha cooler from costa on the way into work which boosted my energy and cooled me down - for like 5 mins anyway!

Now lying on my mum's sofa watching knocked up on itv2 Smile

Gerty1002 · 19/07/2013 06:57

grey I had a scan at what I thought was about 8-9 weeks (irregular periods) but I was dated at 6 weeks. At my 12 week scan they put it forward again so I wouldn't take that one as gospel :)

rescoonetwothree · 19/07/2013 08:54

scout hayle and gerty thank you! gerty did they put you forward to where you thought you were?

i phoned the booking appointment line yesterday and asked what i should do because I'm meant to call at 7 weeks (which by my dates and bfp etc is today) but the scan puts me at 5 weeks - they said wait two weeks and my dates of lmp and bfp etc are obviously wrong (i have written them down so they are most definitely correct). getting a bit fed up with being treated like an idiot!

hope everyones feeling ok today - i think my hormones are kicking in because i am usually quite calm. not today haha.

Gerty1002 · 19/07/2013 09:46

grey Not quite, they put me back three weeks then forward one week. Though my periods are so irregular (we're talking cycle length of 26 days to 65!) that mine was complete guess work.

The way I see it nothing is 100% with dates - the normal gestation period is 37-42 weeks, which is a fairly big time frame, and surely not all babies develop/grow at exactly the same rate and to the same size.

I'd say the only worry with having a late booking in appointment is having a late 12 week scan - if you want to do the test for downs syndrome it has to be done within a certain tine frame, though I can't remember what that is exactly cos I chose not to test.

scoutfinch1 · 19/07/2013 12:06

Grey I wouldn't worry too much about the booking in. It won't matter if your booking in appointment etc is a couple of weeks off. Like gerty says the only thing it could affect is scans and screening. Just raise the issue with your midwife when you eventually see her and explain why you want your scan sooner rather than later.

In the notes I have it says the scan should be done between 11-13 so .With the downs screening it will depend on where in the country you are but for me it was between 15-18 weeks so you shouldn't have any problems with that. I'm pretty sure there is at least a two week time frame on all of the screenings/ scans/ tests etc so don't worry.

Don't let them get to you, just be prepared and informed about what you want and be prepared to stand your ground.

itsliz · 19/07/2013 12:25

Couldn't agree more, scout!

I didn't have a booking appointment until 14 weeks as my GP forgot about me and didn't get it sorted as they'd promised...!
It didn't seem to matter too much, but obviously it's nice to be seen sooner rather than later purely for some peace of mind. If you are worried then don't be afraid to bug people until you get an appointment and make sure you chase things up if you need to. At the end of the day it's your pregnancy, so it's important that you're happy with what decisions are being made!

Haylebop12 · 19/07/2013 12:34

Although downs screening is 11-13 weeks with nuchal fold scan for some reasons they can't do
This. My baby was lying in the wrong position to get any fluid measurements so I had a set of bloods call the "quad test" that they do at 14 weeks. Not as accurate but as we're all in our twenties, unless there is history of downs in your family your very likely to come back as low risk.

Haylebop12 · 19/07/2013 12:50

Must say that the quad yest can be done between 14+4 and 20+4.

NomDeClavier · 19/07/2013 14:52

Nuchal fold scan can be done up to 13+5 - I had accompanying bloods to do as well but I don't know whether that's standard on the NHS or not. If you only have the quad screening that's done around the 16week appointment. Saves you making several trips!

I'm feeling so much more knackered this pregnancy! Can't imagine being 10 or even 20 years older and pregnant! Mind you I'm much less fit this time round too so that probably has something to do with it.

Newmum0113 · 20/07/2013 09:07

I had the nuchal fold scan done twice - as baby wouldn't sit still for the donographer the first time and then they checked my bloods at the 16 week appointment too.

Up with an aching back and wriggly baby, anyone been suffering restless nights?

Yesterday my wonderful friends threw me a surprise baby shower, so much time and effort was put into it and I came away with some lovely gifts! I was so shocked, they'd all cancelled on me for dinner the night before so I was a bit cross, but little did I know they were planning to see me the day after!

SarahJayne321 · 21/07/2013 23:35

Ooh can I join :)

21 and due 6th Jan 2013 Grin

rescoonetwothree · 22/07/2013 08:21

ooh sorry didn't realise there'd been replies! thanks everyone for the reassurance / knowledge - i'm so clueless so appreciate it loads!

gerty i have - i just keep waking up really early and notice I'm fidgety in the night! that's lovely about the baby shower!

hi sarah!

it's a bit early for me to be thinking about yet haha but would be interested in the reasons you've chosen what you have - has anyone decided what type of birth they're going to have?

Gerty1002 · 22/07/2013 08:45

Mine is getting pretty close so I have been thinking about it a lot (though haven't got round to writing birth plan).

I'm going to be as open mineed as possible as I know it doesn't always go to plan, especially with this being my first and not knowing what to expect.

Ideally I'd love a water birth, as I find baths very relaxing and have always used them as pain relief for bad period pains. I hopefully would like to only have gas and air for pain relief, but if it gets too much I would choose diamorphine/pethidine. I'd prefer not to though, as it can make baby drowsy, which can make initiating the first feed more tricky.

I really don't want to have an epidural if at all avoidable, as I don't like the thought of losing mobility and also I'd like to be able to experience labour fully and feel when to push.

Obviously I pray that I don't need an EMCS, and hoping baby turns to correct position in so I don't have to consider ELCS.

As I plan to breastfeed I hope to have skin to skin with baby ASAP after birth and for as long as I can, initiating first feed within an hour as recommended.

Fingers crossed I get something close to that but as long as I get a healthy baby I don't mind too much :)

SarahJayne321 · 22/07/2013 09:02

All I've decided so far is that ill be in a hospital, not a birthing centre.

And absolutely no pethedine/diamorphine, anything that makes me feel drowsy, confused etc I really can't deal with!!

Haylebop12 · 22/07/2013 15:02

I too am hoping for a water birth gerty bit I'm yet so see the hospital in going to. I had dd in a completely different part of the country.

Definitely go into it open minded and although everyone will have ideas and hopes for their birth the main thing, I believe, is listen to your midwife. They will have done this hundreds of times and 9/10 will know what's best for you.

MummaPanda · 22/07/2013 17:32

MummaPanda · 22/07/2013 18:27

Just reading back in the thread and cherrycherry sounds like you are me just one month ahead! My daughter is 8 months and due beginning of November with a boy too! Weird! I thought surely there wasn't anyone out there as crazy as me!

Gerty1002 · 22/07/2013 23:51

Congratulations and welcome MummaPanda :)

Currently sitting awake in bed due to nightmare heartburn and a very achy leg - I think baby is sitting on my sciatic nerve! Had a warm bath earlier, now cuddling a hot wheat pack and have taken some paracetamol... nothing seems to be shifting it :(.
