Sparkleigh....it is restrictive for me because I don't feel like eating junk but fruit is my craving.
Is a matter fo spreading the amount of carbs you eat ( wholemeal) throughout the day and instead of 3 meals you have 6 smaller ones.
And no fruit juice ( not that I care).
As you check for the sugar levels all the time ( 4 times a day in my case) you work out what raises your own blood sugar levels...

Tarlia · 23/07/2013 22:48

Sanji your bump clicked or your own hips? I didn't think I'd hear and feel a clicky hip from baby. It happened again this evening - both times I've been laying perfectly still, def not me.

There was me thinking I was the only innocent on the thread and wondered the kind of people I'd surrounded myself with Grin

Nat did she say anything about sending sample off to be tested? Getting a +1 is really easy to do by accident, if not a clean catch and usually nothing to worry about, but for peace of mind you could ask if you could pop to MW and do a quick sample.

legallyblond · 23/07/2013 22:52

Natalie did you pee directly onto the stick of was it in a pot? Apparently peeing directly onto the stick frequently means the sample is mucked up by discharge dripping on as well as wee, which shows as protein. That's why they like you to bring a pot.

GTbaby · 24/07/2013 00:47

Shit. Just looked at my app n I didn't realise I was 30weeks!
Funny as first pregnancy I knew to the day his far I was.

Better sort out whooping cough injection. Although I had it in October so wonder if I still have it in me?
Mw this time and last time told me to see GP. Which seems to be the norm.
Vit k injection is given to baby at birth. I remember research last time and I'm sure only negative I could find was about the injection hurting the baby. N drops only neg a could find was tasted yuk for baby. I'm not 100% but that's what I remember.
So will go with the injection again.

Feel achy today. Calfs r really sore. So is arm n shoulder. Very weird. Right it's taken ages catching up. So off to sleep I go. Last day at school tomorrow!

tuckingfits · 24/07/2013 04:01

Urgh. Am not well! I phoned in sick for work tonight/last night? Tuesday night, anyway, because I didn't feel good all day. Went to bed & started having tummy cramps - ibs I think. Got a tiny bit of disturbed & uncomfortable sleep & have been up for hours now waiting for ibs cramps to become a rapid purge of my bowels (sorry!) but ended up being violently sick several times into an already slow draining sink & so had to clean that up & try again to unblock the bloody thing. Am in too much discomfort to go to bed. DP got up to use downstairs toilet & has gone back to bed ignoring my vomiting sounds & unblocking attempts. Im now sitting outside with a peppermint tea waiting for the dogs to be ready to go back to bed after all the "excitement".

Am as sure as I can be that it's nothing to do with the baby, but I do feel really awful. Hopefully I'll get some sleep before DS decides it's time to get up... Can see me ringing in sick again wed night. I HATE phoning in sick. Especially because I'm only part time & therefore think I should be able to handle it. :(

char1eston · 24/07/2013 06:25

Sorry you're feeling shite tucking. Hope ds let you have a bit more sleep. Do you have to look after him today? I'm with you on the phoning in sick. I only work 3 days so if I'm off for just one of those I feel really bad. Hope your tummy feels better soon x

Natalieand · 24/07/2013 07:07

Oh bless that doesn't sound pleasant tucking I hope u are feeling a little better this morning xxx

I wee'd in the pot for the urine test and I can only assume they aren't sending off as she didn't even mention the test it was the nurse who tested it that told me about the protein

I have a serious urge to go Nd buy baby stuff and hospital bag stuff today today like desperately right now at 7.07 am lol maybe its cos I had a dream last night that my waters broke on my sisters kitchen floor lol

OrangeBlossom2 · 24/07/2013 07:11

Hope you feel better soon tucking.

Worth a ring Natalie just to see if your midwife/gp is concerned or if it is ok.

Last day at school for me today. Long list of things to do so I imagine I will be in over the holidays but last proper day with children. Phew! I've found it really tough to keep going the last few days.

Tarlia · 24/07/2013 08:38

tucking you poor thing, sounds awful. How are you feeling this morning? I hope you have help with DS so you can catch up on some sleep!

Nat do it! I had my bag packed by this stage last time. Apart from breast pads, just because they were on sale when I happened to be in the shop, I've nothing prepared for the bag! However last load of 0-3 stuff was washed last night.

GT I'm the same, I have to check apps to know which week I'm in let alone days. I told someone I was 39 instead of 29 weeks last week - wishful thinking!?

Warlin · 24/07/2013 08:50

Oh get well soon tucking Flowers

spark I won't be going home from home as I want remi fentinol {sp?} pain releif and it's not available there. It is self administering and I like having the control to press the button when I need more Grin. The rooms are nice in home from home though.

clap and Contesse* I think Conrad is lovely. I feel the same with Edward in that I love it for a child or adult but not sure about a baby. They stay babies for such a short time so I think it's far worse to have a baby name and then wince as they have to use it as an adult. Rupert reminds me of Will Young's brother for some reason!

Last time the vit K injection was given at birth and we will do the same again. That way I wasn't aware it had happened and neither was ds as he was a bit shocked from the birth. You have to sign for it at some stage and I was asked to at the booking apt. The 5 day heel prick jab was the worst and I cried a hormonal, don't hurt my baby cry!!!

Yes, def don't think the Royal baby will be Albert! I got stroppy with my mum last night on the phone as she was going on about how well Kate looked and how lovely her dress was and wasn't she fabulous etc etc...I got all hormonal remembering how I waddled out of hospital in old maternity clothes (prob with a blood stain or two), no make up, hair a mess and could hardly get into the car. It's not that she's some super woman, she just has a hell of a lot more help and support than the rest of us. Rant over!!!!

MotherOfNations · 24/07/2013 08:55

Aww tucking I hope you're feeling better soon.

Legally get your hospital bag packed because I dreamt last night that you had the twins.

Is there still no news on Crookie? I hope everything is o.k.

PseudoBadger · 24/07/2013 09:23

I really need to get shifting don't I! Nothing bought for or put in a bag. Nothing out of the loft. No space made or thought given to how baby will fit into our lives or our space!

Sorry you're not well Tucking and I hope it passes soon.
I took yesterday off sick as I was overheated and exhausted after my panic about movements and no sleep due to the storms. I felt much better by the evening.

Flyer747 · 24/07/2013 09:29

Sorry to hear you aren't well tucking I hope you are feeling a little better this morning and managed to get some zzzz.

I too was awake until stupid o clock I think I finally nodded off at about 445am feeling like death this morning, going into work at 12.

Can someone tell me what I need to pack into my hospital bag please?

Also I have no nursery furniture as of yet, no car seat. I feel that I still have so much to buy and prepare its starting to overwhelm me somewhat!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/07/2013 09:38

Just a quick sit down before I take the dog a walk - need to muster some energy out of somewhere.

Tucking - that sounds horrid, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Orange - last day in Yr 1 for DD today. I'm the opposite of you and looking ahead to the summer holidays with a vague sense of dread. I'm feeling so heavy and tired these days.

Warlin you have my sympathies, my mum annoyed me on the phone last night too. DP just has found out he has to go to Salt Lake City in a week or so and this clashes with the start of my NCT course. I was telling my mum how annoying this was and I didn't know whether to scrabble around for a babysitter or just miss the first session.

Anyhow, mum then launches into a big rant about how awful it is I don't have any family nearby, and don't get enough support, and how on earth will I manage with two child and DP's long hours, and how she worries terribly etc, etc......(making me feel awful)

BUT does this mean she actually offers to visit or ever offers any practical support...Er, NO.......Grrrrrr!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/07/2013 09:41

Flyer and Pseudo - another one that has done next to zero prep for the baby and is beginning to feel a tad panicked.

Warlin · 24/07/2013 10:06

Nothing done at all for baby either. I did try to take the covers off the maxi cosi to wash them but have managed to get the seat stuck in the isofix base that someone gave me and can't get it out..! I just wanted to see how it slotted into the base and now it won't come out...and I can't see how to take the covers off the maxi cosi either.....argghhh.

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 24/07/2013 10:24

Ugh. Anyone else feeling a bit robbed of the second trimester? I felt terrible until about 21 weeks, when I got a terrible cold while on holiday and was still suffering from morning sickness. I feel like I had about three weeks of feeling good, then the hot weather descended and now I'm 30 weeks, STILL getting some nausea and feeling slow and generally rubbish. My ankles have started swelling (I'm aware that I have done well to get this far!). The last few weeks have gone soooo slowly.

My bump is still quite small I think, but I have a short torso. So baby feels a lot of the time like its trying to forcibly create itself more room by kicking me constantly, especially under my ribs.

People keep telling me how well I'm looking, but its becoming a bit of an effort to keep the Hmm off my face...

HotSoupDumpling · 24/07/2013 10:25

Have panicked a bit about lack of baby-things so have done a bit of shopping this week... thanks to Shire and the bednest promotion kick up the backside the baby will have a place to sleep when it arrives. Have also ordered some c-section granny pants from M&S. But no car seat yet.

Comtesse - thank you for your entertaining and educational summary of a 'Prince Albert'! Brilliant!

Bridget - my MIL gushingly goes on about how I have to visit her so she can care for me, but then comes to stay with us and produces a huge amount of work, but then also bitches about how cheeky it is that my mum occasionally cooks for me... Like Warlin's mum, she also likes to go on and on about how amazing other people look/behave - I'm not ultra-sensitive about it, but it is amusing - generally I wouldn't go on for 10 minutes to her about how brilliant her friends/relatives are!

Tucking, hope you feel better today.

HotSoupDumpling · 24/07/2013 10:26

P.S. yes Comtesse, I feel a little robbed too. My MS lasted well into 4 months, and then the back pain and hot weather started... (complain complain!)

claphammama · 24/07/2013 10:27

this sounds awful tucking poor you. Do you think you ate something dodgy yesterday? Call in sick if you have to - you and your baby are more important x

flyer I would pack:

  • two baby outfits (vests, babygrows and a hat). I don't bother buying newborn size and go straight to 0-3months (although DS was only 6.8lb). If you are planning to pack a newborn size outfit, pack also an emergency 0-3 outfit (two of my friends didn't and had babies who were too big for newborn size!)
  • a few newborn size nappies
  • cotton pads (I didn't use wipes on DS for the first few weeks, just cotton pads and water but it's up to you)
  • breast pads for leakage
  • breastfeeding bra
  • breastfeeding nighty or any nighty with easy boob access
  • dressing gown
  • massive tena pads for yourself... it's like a massive period afterwards so normal pads won't do the job
  • 3-4 panties for yourself (in case of leakage...)
  • lots of snacks for you and DP (you may end up being there for a while and there will be no time to run around to find food) We had a couple of sandwiches, energy bars, something to drink etc...

Can't think of anything else but perhaps more recent mums will think of something else...

Talking about annoying mums, MIL managed to annoy DP with similar comments yesterday. He drove her to the bus station and she was saying how we should make our life a bit "calmer". How we are running too much and it's not good to have a family like this. This is London FFS! There is no other way to do it with both of us working. Yes, we both come back at 7pm, then cook dinner, then put DS to bed and then collapse on the sofa about 9-9.30pm. I would also love our life to be calmer. And this is why I'm planning to stop working for a few years once we have two. Grrrrr. Can you be more constructive please?

I'm going to be a bit annoying but I've done almost everything for the baby... mainly because we are now going away for 2 weeks, then have a wedding to go to and simply no free weekends left. I'm also a control freak Grin

roofio87 · 24/07/2013 10:29

I still haven't bought travel system or any nursery furniture. dp is buying a car when his share saver scheme comes in in a few weeks so no point buying a pram until we know what car we have! worst case scenario and baby is v early we can borrow sils car seat to bring lo home. not washed any clothes yet either as still need drawers to put them in when clean!!

Sparkeleigh · 24/07/2013 10:38

tuckingfits that's horrible for you, I hope you feel better, but don't feel bad about staying off work, you need to look after yourself Flowers Plus, you can make yourself feel a bit better about staying off by thinking your colleagues won't want you in in case they catch your bug!

Did you see there's a Debenhams 20% off sale on today? I'm hoping John Lewis will price match because that's where I'm going to get the pram from and 20% off would be lovely Grin

roofio87 · 24/07/2013 10:47

booked in for my wc vaccine on Monday. mw said to go in for my flu jab when that season starts again in September/October. but that practice nurse might slip me one a bit earlier of I want so it has time to pass on the immunity to baby!!

legallyblond · 24/07/2013 11:16

Flyer - agree with everything Clapham suggests, also my essentials to add are:

  • black towel or towels (buy from for post birth showers/baths
  • dettol wipes or spray (so as not to pick up bugs in hospital).. I wiped down the hospital bath each time after my episiotomy before getting in and am sure that helped me not get an infection
  • sports top water bottle - sitting up might be a bit of a mission depending on how the birth goes
  • if you're fussy about tea or coffee (like me!!), nice tea bags!
  • Vaseline (great tip from an old school midwife) ... Cover the baby's bum in it shortly after its born as it stops the meconiun sticking!

Tucking - really hope you're feeling better.

Had my BP taken again today. It's gone down. Phew!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the support... Means a lot.

legallyblond · 24/07/2013 11:17

Black towels from "for post"?!? Primark!
