Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I am definitely not going to look anywhere near as kate when I leave hospital! She looked amazing. I cried stupid hormonal mess that I am.
I love the name rufus. Unfortunately we already have a rufus in our family (the dog) but otherwise ds would have been a rufus. Also love Arthur, Theo, Hugo and Barnaby but DH hates all these so we only have one boys name we agree on. We have the girls name sorted but I'm pretty sure I'm cooking a boy so really need to sort the boys name.

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 20:43

Ha ha ha Clapham, I thought I was being ambitious planning to pack some tinted moisturiser and by BBH!

When I say "good" names, we have a Jonathan, two James, a William, a John, a Jeremy, three Davids, two Thomases, a Mark. And a good friend of ours is called Henry.

So, while not all of those would be on our list, you can see that it cuts down quite a lot of solid, classic names!

Add to that the fact that DH went to a private boys' school and has some strong opinions about all sorts of fairly normal names - no to Joseph, Joshua, Samuel, Sebastian, the list goes on - and we're really struggling.

I want something not too popular, but nothing so unusual that people will say "what?!" and do this face Hmm. I suspect that in Clapham (I'm guessing that's where you live Grin you can get away other something more unusual than we could here in the SW. I already think MIL is going to hate Conrad... Mind you, on second thoughts that might not be such a bad thing Wink

Sparkeleigh · 23/07/2013 20:50

Thanks for the nice comments on Aine, I haven't tried it out on anyone in real life yet!

Warlin I'm going to the Ulster too Smile I'm really hoping I get into one of the home away from home suites, my friend had her baby in one and thought they were brilliant... Wouldn't worry about thinking your brain is dying, I went to get petrol yesterday and got back into the passenger side by mistake, so embarrassing, I tried to pretend I was fixing my handbag but I doubt I pulled it off Blush

flyer glad nothing's happened since!

I'm planning to get the whooping cough injection and vitamin k injection for the baby. I think the benefits outweigh the risks.

Sorry your D H upset you Nat, hope he makes it up to you later!

I don't get the Prince Albert thing either.. I thought it was because he died young?

Sparkeleigh · 23/07/2013 20:55

Ewww, I need brain bleach! There were pics!!! WHY would you pierce yourself there, surely it's incredibly painful if it catches?!

claphammama · 23/07/2013 20:56

how on earth did you guess I live in clapham??? Grin And yes lots of weird stuff going on here... as mentioned on this thread a couple of months ago I've met a boy called Spartacus and a woman called Coco... as well as several bankers called Rupert. I'm now convinced you probably have to be called Rupert to be in banking. And yes, I also want something unusual but not weird. Or should I perhaps call the poor boy Clapham? I mean we've had Posh's Brooklyn or Kim Kardashian's North West...?

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 20:58

OK, for those of you still in the dark and scared to google, "a Prince Albert" is slang for a piercing in the penis, usually in the head of the penis. Supposedly because Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's son I think) had one. He was apparently a notorious bon viveur with a taste for expensive Parisian tarts (not the strawberry variety Grin) and is rumoured to have had a special sex chair made for him to enjoy the company of two ladies at once...

claphammama · 23/07/2013 21:01

OMG you actually made me cry from laughter sparkeleigh. DP thought I was going crazy.

I actually feel a bit tipsy today and slightly crazy. No alcohol involved

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 21:01

I know a Rupert! My best friend's DS is Felix. I know twins called Dusty and Arthur (is that not the coolest thing ever?)!

claphammama · 23/07/2013 21:03

pseudo is the Rupert you know a banker?

comtesse my mind is racing now!!

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 21:03

Clapham I quite like Rupert but I've always thought it was a name for a posh but ineffectual political minion (something I saw in Yes Minister perhaps?). Who wears Yellow checked trousers Smile

Apparently Conrad is also a banker's name. And they wonder why we don't tell anyone what we've chosen?!

claphammama · 23/07/2013 21:12

I totally see what you mean comtesse... sort of like Rupert Everett? The guy who owned our house was Rupert and a banker and he wore red trousers... And he was collecting lawn mowers as a hobby...

I think it's probably good that I haven't met any Conrads since school...

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 21:13

Apologies all, I am misleading you. Prince Albert of the piercing was Queen Victoria's DH; Prince Albert of the sex chair was their son, later Edward VII.

Sanjifair · 23/07/2013 21:13

Clap ham, my initials were VD. I used to use my middle initial so actually it was VAD, but that didnt stop the piss taking...

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 21:17

Dear God Clapham! Was it like that Tumblr thing "look at my f*cking red trousers"?!

claphammama · 23/07/2013 21:28

oh sanji marriage is indeed a great institution...! I shall remember this and choose a different middle name for this innocent baby!

comtesse they wear raspberry red and he looked very relaxed in them. But, as I said, he had 15 lawn mowers from different decades in the garden...

Natalieand · 23/07/2013 21:36

Off topic well kind of I had +1 of protein in my urine today but the dippy doctor that saw me didn't even mention it my bp was low for me at 100/76 any suggestions as to why I would have the protein?

Shirehobbit · 23/07/2013 21:41

Could be a low-level UTI, natalie?

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 21:42

Possibly contamination of the sample Natalie?

Clapham - no this Rupert is two so not a banker yet! His dad is a maths teacher though....

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 21:43

Or a uti

char1eston · 23/07/2013 21:44

roxvox - we went for the oral version of vitamin k with dd and I would just give you one warning (although it could be purely down to our rubbish medical centre). She had the first dose in hospital and we were told to go to the gp to get a prescription for the 2nd and 3rd doses. When we phoned them up they refused to give us a prescription because dd didn't have a name! I had to call the surgery 3 days after she was born (baby blues territory) and they really made me cry. In the end we made up a name to get it. It was all pretty stressful and I think this time round we will just give baby the injection. Having said this, you're surgery could be completely different or if you've got a name, you'll be ok.

On a different subject, I was thinking the other day that I haven't felt the baby have hiccups yet. Well it just has - very cute!

char1eston · 23/07/2013 21:50

soupqueen - our dnephew is caspian. Took a little while to get use to it but I like it. My dd calls him caspipin, which is really cute. Not heard of any others either. He gets shortened to caspi

Natalieand · 23/07/2013 22:00

U think its worth me contacting my midwife tommorow? Getting her to retest of gp? As not seeing anyone until 12th of August now and uti's can cause early labour can't they?

Haylebop12 · 23/07/2013 22:01

My family boy names are no good tbh since the royal birth ... My nephews are George and Harry! My cousins (9yo and 11yo) and Louie and zak. On dh's side we have a Joshua and Jacob, I like both of them.

legallyblond · 23/07/2013 22:14

Re whooping cough, I had mine last week. It was fine but my arm was achy for the rest of the day. I asked consultant and midwife about it... Both said it was a "no brainer". WC is potentially a killer, really serious, and the vaccine is not live. Also, in case any of you didn't know, you can have it between 28-38 weeks, but the recommended window and the most effective time is 28-32 weeks (it's in the NHS booklet)....

I also got DD the vitamin K injection as opposed to drops. The only risk that was ever a concern was an unproven link to childhood lukemia. This was a single study that has never had repeated results, despite several studies trying to replicate the findings, so general view is that that study had incorrect/random results. In any event, the formula now used is totally different from the formula then used for synthetic vitamin K, so I figured there was little / no risk.

Shirehobbit · 23/07/2013 22:24

Natalie - I think it probably is worth a call tomorrow, just to check. Better than worrying about it x
