Flyer747 · 23/07/2013 14:49

I've put a piece of toilet roll in my pants as i'm at work,(classy hey) as i felt so wet/damp it was uncomfrotable sitting down on a wet patch iyswim. I will keep an eye on it and if I have anymore will pop to liverpool womens later on after work. Thanks.

Warlin my boss here is also a 40 something childless female. It doesn't make getting time off for appointments or sympathy very easy. I am really looking forward to telling her on friday I need every saturday off in August for my nct classes! the face will be a picture.

char1eston · 23/07/2013 14:50

warlin - had my whooping cough jab yesterday. Ended up having a 4 in 1 (with tetanus, polio and something else) as they were all out of date too. I just think that it would be worse for the baby to get whooping cough and the risks must be extremely low for the nhs to be advocating it. I think given our little ones are due on the cooler months too, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

TheFalconsmistress · 23/07/2013 14:50

Back from docs Bump still measuring 6 weeks over so i have a GTT test next week and a Scan on the 30th not that doc was bothered about giving me one but MW has because I said my movements have slowed as well. She is head down as I thought and hb is good though.

All seem to be getting a bit real....

claphammama · 23/07/2013 15:04

I agree with pseudo, flyer. This is exactly what I was told to do when my waters "leaked". I didn't know what to think as it felt more than just discharge (although not much more!) and it wasn't a gush or anything dramatic at all. She told me to wear a towel and, if it's indeed waters, it will definitely leak more. And it did so I went to be checked (I was 39 weeks though so to be expected) So see how it goes. Thinking of you xx

I'm also in two minds about the whooping cough vaccine... I'm 27 weeks today so need to decide soon. I'm not keen on vaccines during pregnancy to be honest, unless absolutely essential.

Sorry to hear about your appointment falcon. But better to be checked and know that everything is OK xx

Flyer747 · 23/07/2013 15:05

Clapham, from experience with airlines say worse case scenario you went into labour early, then most airlines would fly your dp home on the next available flight. Which airline does his company use for business travel? If cathay or BA they have numerous flights daily, and if it's a business class seat most companies have fully flexible tickets as part of their contract with the airline. However yes it is a 12 hour flight home to London so i can see your worry i'd feel the same.

I also saw my bum/thighs/cellulite in a 3 way mirror earlier on, it put me in a bad mood! haha...

claphammama · 23/07/2013 15:10

ah - and talking about ignorant and insensitive managers! Do you think your childless middle aged managers may be simply jealous?? I honestly wouldn't exclude it.

Mine is a 37 year old guy with emotional intelligence of a 20 year old boy. He's never had a proper relationship in his life, never lived with anyone and hasn't been dating for the last 3 years. His job is his life and he is so insecure that he is scared of his own shadow. Not to mention our senior management. Doesn't understand relationships, doesn't understand childcare and having to leave the office to pick up children from afterschool etc

claphammama · 23/07/2013 15:11

ps. he hasn't booked it yet flyer but will tell him to check!

And yes, 3 way mirrors... :-)

Wickedgirl · 23/07/2013 15:12

I have decided to not have the whopping cough vaccination. I am very reluctant to take/have anything in pregnancy. My 3 children are all older though so have a good immune system and hopefully less likely to bring home bugs from school. Also, because of their ages, I won't need to do the school run or anything else that brings me into contact with lots of people/children.

roxvox · 23/07/2013 15:19

Re whooping cough vaccine - my midwife didn't seem too encouraging about it. She kind of put me off it actually! So I wasn't looking to have it either. What is the latest you can have it though?

Has anyone else had the leaflet on Vitamin K yet?

OP posts:
Wickedgirl · 23/07/2013 15:22

Roxvox .......It is given between between 28 and 38 weeks

My 3 all had the vitamin k by injection just after they were born and I will do the same this time too.

tuckingfits · 23/07/2013 15:29

My midwife was fully for the whooping cough vaccine. I am going to have it because it is acellular & therefore not a "live" vaccine. I live in a low risk area (Scotland,no deaths...) but it's just not a risk i am prepared to take. You just never know. Ds could come into contact with it when he starts playgroup in August (wibble, where the heck is time going?),visitors could have been exposed. Any number of possibilities cross my mind.

My midwife is not a huge advocate of vaccines in pregnancy,i asked her about the flu vaccine at same time as we were discussing WC one,she doesn't not recommend it but she doesn't recommend it either. If that makes sense.

I should actually phone & book my injection now. The only thing I'm not keen on is that there isn't a single whooping cough vaccination,it is grouped with diptheria, tetanus etc as mentioned above. Oh well...

Sparkeleigh · 23/07/2013 15:29

Flyer That sounds worrying for you, fingers crossed nothing else happens now.

warlin Northern Irish, whatever that means :-) DH has an Irish passport, I have a British one but I don't feel especially British or Irish.

tuckingfits · 23/07/2013 15:31

Roxvox - it's recommended between week 28 - 38 so that your body has time to make antibodies & pass them on to your baby. You can have it after 38 weeks but you may not pass on immunity to the baby.

pinkbuttons · 23/07/2013 16:21

With regards to the whooping cough vaccine, did all of your midwives mention it or did you have to request? I havent been told about it at all but dont know if I should call the surgery to ask about it, although next midwife appt is 34 weeks so guess I could have it then. is it available nation wide?
Hope leaking has stopped flyer My hind waters went at 33 weeks with DS but all was ok so I hope it's just that if its anything xx

Shirehobbit · 23/07/2013 16:40

pink - it was mentioned to me very early on, maybe even at booking in (?) and then not again. When I brought it up at 26 weeks, the midwife told me I "needed to sort that out with my doctor's surgery" Hmm
So I have an appointment with the practice nurse next week (when I'll be 29 weeks).

roxvox · 23/07/2013 16:43

pinkbuttons I was given the information as a leaflet in my first bounty pack from the midwife, then she gave me the leaflet again at our last meeting (28 weeks) along with some others (mostly trying to encourage me to home birth). She briefly went through them all, but as I say she didn't seem particularly encouraging about the whooping cough vaccine.

Thanks for the info tucking and wicked, I could have it now then. I am trying to weigh up the potential side effects of it, as I too am trying to resist taking anything unecessary in pregnancy.

OP posts:
Warlin · 23/07/2013 16:45

arghh now I'm in 2 minds about the vaccine...just made the apt because I was bored in work and another thing to tick off the list. My mum said my brother got wc as a baby and it was really scary. I am another who hates the idea of a vaccine, although I would say at this late stage at least the babies are well developed...mmmm, will sleep on it. My midwives to date have been very pro it.

clap I think you're right on the manager jealousy front. Mine sent me the email from her sick bed as she is off having a hysterectomy. I'm just being firm and standing my ground. There is no way I will work beyond 37 weeks.

rox I had the vitamin K last time and will have it again this time. It's important I think.

clap my last job was with a top 100 company and they were even worse...making people travel with work until the max allowed by airlines...

flyer I agree re the pad and just keep an eye. I had the same when we were on holiday but no more since. If you are concerned, ask your midwife or GP for a swab. When your waters fully go, you will know about it :)

Sparkleigh I'm NI too...which hospital are you going to? I'm with the Ulster...have we had this conversation already...? My brain is slowly dying..

chickieno1 · 23/07/2013 16:50

Hope all ok flyer

clapham getting mil to stay when dh goes away is a good idea. At least she can help with ds. My pil are coming to visit for 3 weeks in September. Fil wants to take a mini trip to NY. I know he wants dh to go with him........ The suggestion was made that dh goes and mil stays with ds and I but I've said NO to this! Either pil go alone or all three of them go. I told dh it's not his mothers responsibility to look after me and ds!!! We ll see what happens.

My ds name is Finn and I think it suits him :). We're not in Ireland which is good as it was quite popular there around the time he was born.

Still no definite names here and we need both girls and boys names! Also tricky as need Yoruba (Nigerian) first names and Irish middle names that don't sound too strange together and with surname Grin

chickieno1 · 23/07/2013 16:53

Terrible about work warlin. Will letter from mw or consultant help?

Vaccine not offered here. Not keen on vaccines myself but if was risk of WC then would get it for babies sake.

Aine is a lovely name sparkleigh

Natalieand · 23/07/2013 16:53

So my appt this morning was at 11.15! It was gone 1.30 when I eventually got seen during the waiting time dh and I fell out via our phones as he said he suddenly couldn't come cos he was busy at work then showed up for all of 5 minutes and when he left I was crying in the waiting room on my own. I wish I had never bothered with the f*ing appt in the first place!! Baby weighs 2lb 11oz and is head down. All clear on GTT and iron levels are perfect.other than that I saw a registra not a consultant and she was a big fat waste if space! She asked me to stay and be monitored on the ctg but I couldn't as I had already been there 2.5 hours and had someone looking after dd for me. I felt light headed and starving when I left cos I hadn't taken food or drink with me as I hadn't expected to be there for the long haul!!! Argh so cross! Me and dh still aren't talking I'm currently too fuming at him!

clapham I too love the name Casper (kasper) but dh also comes out with the friendly ghost 'joke'

Hope everything goes ok at the next scan falcon glad your midwife is taking u seriously :-)

My midwife hasn't even mentioned whoopig cough too me yet. Or flu jab for that matter x

roxvox · 23/07/2013 16:53

warlin I am torn too, but with unencouraging midwives! I will have a chat with DH about it later (health is one area of the pregnancy that he is always keen to have a discussion about!)

wicked and warlin I intend to get the Vitamin K for baby, I just wasn't sure whether to go for the drops (which I will have to take baby back to docs multiple times for) or the injection. I have to say that the leaflet has led me to believe that the drops are the safer bet, which I am happy to take the inconvenience of if it really is the case that the drops are less likely to cause any issues for baby.

flyer I hope everything is ok. Could it have been urine? I sometimes feel as though I could easily have a wee leak when baby lies in a funny position.

I am aware that I say 'baby' a lot in this post. Sorry, but we don't have a name yet and don't know whether 'baby' is a he or she so I don't know how to reference him/her!

OP posts:
roxvox · 23/07/2013 16:57

natalieand sorry to hear about your crappy appointment. I hope you and DH are ok later.
My DH asked our midwife about the flu jab when we were there for our 28w appointment and she said that they do not offer it at this time of year.

OP posts:
chickieno1 · 23/07/2013 17:03

Poor you natalie

Hope you and dh sort things out.

Why did they want to monitor you?

ComtesseDeFrouFrou · 23/07/2013 17:06

clapham how funny, Conrad is our "chosen" boy's name too, but I am wavering. I was all set for ages as now I'm not so sure. Interestingly though, I tried seeing it written down as a birth announcement Blush and it looked better written down. What is it that's putting you off? I think for me it's that it's not really a baby name IYSWIM, but I think it works well for older boys and adults. He'd probably be Conrad George T... (pretty classic and common English surname.)

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 17:07

Natalie sorry you had a horrible time :( Why did they want to put you on the ctg?

I'm still covered by my flu jab which I had with my last pregnancy in November. I will be getting the WC jab too, I'm guessing at my MW appointment next week. If they don't do it then I'll ask how to get it.
