Geese my friend had gallstones when she was pregnant and was put on a really strict diet and lost 4 stone! she looks fantastic. She's had her gallbladder removed now but is so inspired by the weight she lost that she has taken up running and lost even more! I really hope I lose my weight quickly - I think getting .GDhas helped as I haven't put on weight in the last couple of weeks - was overly indulging my sweet tooth before that!

Welcome Laura sounds like you have your hands full. I looked after my 3 year old nephew for the weekend last week and was exhausted by the rand of the weekend so lots if respect for having 3 under 3 Smile

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 13/07/2013 20:27

Second day in a row of hormonal tears... DS was singing Puff the Magic Dragon but didn't quite know the words ("folloped in the autumn mist") so I played it to him from youtube... forgetting that the little boy grows up and doesn't want to play with Puff any more WAAAAAHHHHHHH

Fozziebearmum2be · 13/07/2013 20:32

Thanks for sorting Jennimoo Smile

You guys have had all the heat today! Not so up in the frosty(ish) north. Today was the first day I've had real clothes on all week. Socks and a bra and everything!

Well done the FB diplomats.

I'm hoping that not having walked in the last two months and not walking for the next two months will mean that when me and baba and Oskar (my schnauzer) start going for walks the enormous amount of weight I've put on will just fall off. I may well have to stop eating chocolate every day too Grin. I never had a sweet tooth at all pre-pregnancy. Does it go away?

jennimoo · 13/07/2013 20:48

I think my taste buds have permanently changed: I used to love dark chocolate but went right off it as its not sweet enough now!

weebarra · 13/07/2013 21:07

Home from spain today - but only slightly cooler here in Edinburgh!
Was asked for my fit to fly letter by cabin crew halfway through the flight - not entirely sure what they'd have done if I hadn't had it!

Readytosettle · 13/07/2013 22:15

So it turns out that London is about 10 degrees hotter than Devon....missing the sea breeze somewhat! Anyone got any tips for getting cool?? I tried having a cold shower, but the cold water is lukewarm, I'm currently laying on my bed eating an ice lolly....still sweating!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 13/07/2013 22:49

I'm so attractive. Been sitting in T-shirt and knickers all evening and had to come to bed to lie under a fan, DH is a lucky boy. I tried to stay awake to keep him company but can't get comfy anywhere.

My midwife seems more stressed about my iron levels than other peoples. Mine are 106 and I was told if they drop below 105 I can't have a water birth and I'm sure she talked about a transfusion. Other people on here seem similar and are not even prescribed iron. I've Ben taking iron since 13 weeks though and my levels have still dropped consistently so maybe that's why.

fl0b0t · 13/07/2013 22:57

WE have borrowed an aircon unit from neighbours. Noisy and bloody expensive to run. but has got the bedroom from 28 down to about 22 deg this evening- only a few degrees away from my preferred 17!!

flipflump · 13/07/2013 23:30

No tips on keeping cool, but sitting in the shade with my feet in a bucket and cold flannel round the back of my neck was lovely. 30c is just too hot with a heavy hot water bottle strapped to your front. We've just come in from the garden, it's way past my bed time Grin but waiting for the house to cool down. Hope you've all had a good day in the sunshine and kept as comfortable as possible.

jennimoo · 14/07/2013 06:32

I'm loving the £1 cooling aerosol spray I got from asda. Definitely helps when you've overdone it innthebheat and want to cool down quick!

FB group 'tidy' going well and no probs as yet. I'll let you know when all done.

As its secret now I'm not sure posting a link will work for anyone to join, but if you inbox me on here with your email address and RL name I will add you. :)

dakomponist · 14/07/2013 06:40

Thanks fl0 and jenni- you've done a great service for us all!

Because I'm so cold blooded with low blood pressure the rest of the time I've absolutely loved feeling warm and cosy throughout the pregnancy. I'm also originally from NZ so the heat makes me feel right at home.

Nevertheless, I've been putting a half filled 750ml bottle of water in the freezer overnight and then used it all throughout the next day for lovely cold ice water. It melts slowly enough to last me several hours. DP has started doing the same!

RunningBear78 · 14/07/2013 07:54

Thank you for sorting out Facebook, and welcome to dancemummy sounds like you have yr hands full!

I've been quite enjoying the heat, reminds me of summers when we lived in Australia. Think my body has kicked into some old routine to cope with the heat. I have been having cool showers before bed, and keeping my hair wet to make sure im cool enough to sleep. Oh, and eating a lot of ice lollys and ice cream Grin

redandyellow might it be worth just asking the mw why she is so Ott about your levels compared to other people you 'know'? Or get a second opinion from another mw maybe? Seems a bit unfair and dramatic to be talking transfusions, unless there is something else going on which she hasn't been clear about?

Kittenkatzen · 14/07/2013 08:41

Good work on the fb tidy up fl0 and jenni, thanks or looking after it all for us

Welcome dancemummy - 4 under 3's wow!! Shock

So yesterday was a bit of a good/awful mix.

The good bit - DH and I did the baby first aid course I mentioned...it was really good and we feel a bit more confident now about having a tiny human of our own to look after and what to do in an emergency. She covered unconsciousness, CPR, choking, burns, bleeds and a tiny bit on high temperatures. Really informative without bombarding you with unnecessary information to remember. Highly recommend if anyone's been thinking about it!

The awful bit - after the course we went to my parents for dinner, where I found out my lovely dad has cancer Sad. The prognosis is good apparently - he'll be having an op soon and the consultant is confident the cancer can be removed at this stage without the need for chemo/radiotherapy. Which is obviously brilliant....but fuck....cancer - that's not supposed to happen. Held it together whilst we were there but DH has had to deal with a weepy me all night SadSadSad

Fozziebearmum2be · 14/07/2013 09:36

Kitten sorry to hear about your dad, cancer is evil Hmm My dad had it about 15 years ago and the consultant said the same thing, ie operable but in my dads case he may have needed chemo. He didn't, the op was complete success and he's here to tell the tale and meet his first grandchild 15 years later.

They can do amazing things these days and if the consultant is pretty confident then try not to worry (although far easier said than done I know...)

Ps-where did you find the first aid course, it's def something I'm interested in doing.

Kittenkatzen · 14/07/2013 09:47

Thanks fozzie I'm so glad your dad was ok, positive stories like that are definitely what I need to hear right now! My dad seemed quite upbeat about things so I will be taking my cue from him and doing the same I think.

I found the first aid course on my local NCT website - they organise it and then it's run by the Red Cross. I think it was around £45-£50 for both DH and I. You don't need to be an NCT member either (I'm not).

badguider · 14/07/2013 09:58

Sorry to hear about your dad Kitten but the prognosis sounds great. A very closer friend of mine in his 30s had testicular cancer late last year which was operated on then he had chemo through December and got the all-clear in January.. he's fighting fit again now!

Weirdly I'm not minding the heat too much, but I spent last weekend in London and it feels cooler here (it's not really cooler but we have the sea and more green and breeze than London). This heat reminds me a lot of the years I lived in London - when it's close to 30 nowhere in the world feels hotter than that city...

This morning DH has gone mountain biking and I'm trying to decide between going for a wee flat bike ride myself this morning and getting back to watch the Tour with him, or waiting and going the beach with another preggy friend this afternoon... decisions, decisions...

Mooster1709 · 14/07/2013 15:11

Hi all!
Sorry for going AWOL. Finally got our bathrooms finished and new carpet fitted so have had a mad few days trying to move all furniture out of the house and then back in again. But it actually looks a bit like a house now, instead of a building site, which is nice.

Problem is, I am too too knackered to finish sorting everything out. My lovely mum and dad came for a few days to help us put but they've gone now and This heat is killing me. I am too exhausted to do anything. Need to unpack my study but I manage about 10 mins and the need a sit down. I really hope this gets better - it's the heat, right, not a normal way to feel for the rest of the pregnancy??

I'm really sorry to hear your bad news kitten. How horrible for you all. I hope everything is ok.

And thanks for sorting out facebook - I joined but then left because I got the willies about my mumsnet name and real name being linked somewhere.

In other complaining news, this heat seems to have bizarrely brought my hay fever back. I am feeling very grumpy.

RunningBear78 · 14/07/2013 16:14

kitten so sorry to hear about your dad, but do take heart many men survive these days. My fil had prostate cancer a few years back, had an operation, no need for chemo or radiotherapy and he's been fine. Put on a bit of weight when he was too scared to go outside for fear of weeing himself, but he's getting over that too now! Fingers crossed for you all.

The baby first aid course sounds good, might look one up.

I think I've finally succumbed to the heat, hiding in the living room In my pants with a cold flannel on my chest. Been v uncomfortable as baby decided to investigate my right hand side and was poking out of my tummy almost by my hip!? Very odd.

Sending ice lollys all round

MrsMangoBiscuit · 14/07/2013 16:38

Well I feel cold! Snuggled up in bed under the covers, cold! It's entirely down to having some kind of bloody summer flu, but at least it's refreshing not to feel hot.

So sorry to hear about your Dad, Kitten. As others have said, the prognosis sounds good.

fl0b0t · 14/07/2013 17:56

kitten that sounds very stressful, but I'm glad the prognisis is good.

I'm definitely struggling in the heat. I've always been v warm blooded (or at least from when I started paying for my own heating....) so winters don't bother me (love that you can just keep adding layers!). I love summer weather if I can just sunbathe with a pint and a book, but obviously lugging baby weight, doing "last minute" (last 10 week) chores and errands, work etc is a bit less fun in the heat. My feet are fat, my fingers are fat and I feel dizzy half the time! Boo!

In other news- as I've had to take off my wedding and engagement ring, I've sent them to be properly polished/replayted whatever it is they do to them. £60 and I don't feel so bad about not having them on, as when they go back on they'll be super shiny!

JammyTummy · 14/07/2013 18:28

I know that obviously we are still a couple of years away from this stage, and it may also sound like a really daft question- but, is there a reason why toddlers are potty trained into a potty rather than onto the toilet? Sorry if the answer is glaringly obvious...

Kitten I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, it must be particularly hard to keep it together and your emotional pregnant state, but as everyone is saying, the prognosis sounds really positive! Fingers and toes crossed for a quick and successful operation Flowers

MrsMangoBiscuit · 14/07/2013 18:36

A potty is smaller, fun looking and less intimidating. You can keep one in every room, so fewer accidents from not getting there in time. That said, DD didn't like the potty much, and preferred the toilet with a booster seat.

Kittenkatzen · 14/07/2013 19:13

Thanks for the lovely messages about my dad all. He seems very positive so I'm just trying to focus on the fact that hopefully the surgery will work.

ION we went for a tour of the midwife-led unit today, it seemed really lovely and they said they'd be happy to have me there as long as everything stays ok - so we're really pleased about that Smile

mrsmango hope you're feeling better soon, fluey bugs are no fun
