Lie = Your glowing vs Truth = Your sweating, freezing, puking and an emotional basket!

Lie = After the first trimester your ms will disappear vs The truth = It will be there in the second trimester and the third..... and probably after you give birth! Get used to it!

Lie = You don't look even look pregnant vs The truth = whatever, you look pregnant from space!

Lets see what we learn from the second trimester! Grin Wink

And by mathematics I mean nt and length. Not a very detailed report but I think the 20 week scan is much more detailed.

MrsGSR · 16/07/2013 22:26

*measurements not mathematics, stupid phone

So today I received my combined test results through the post and it's 1:959. I know this is technically low risk (as is anything above 1:250 or even 1:150 I think), but with DS my results were 1:13000 and as this was only 2.5yrs ago I'm starting to panic. I had expected the risk to be higher, but not by a factor of 13. The NT measurement was 1.5mm, there was a nasal bone and I'm only (ha) 34, so I assume it must be my bloods throwing everything out. I won't be having any further testing as invasive procedures are too risky and DH says it would be ridiculous to do the combined test again privately (and anyway I think I'm probably out of time), but I just feel quite low. Is this silly? Has anyone else had the combined test and if so what was the result? I keep reading about people much older than me having results in the high 000s and that just makes me feel worse. Sorry for the pity party. Feel free to tell me I'm being an idiot.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/07/2013 22:29

My 12 week scan they checked brain, heart, stomach, spinal cord etc - she kept saying, e.g. 'brain inside skull, stomach inside body' etc. It was quite disconcerting!

I've had these sharp stabby little pains a few times today - they're horizontal (i.e. coming from the side, not up and down) and right down where my uterus should be. Not awful, just a bit 'take a sharp breath in' kind of thing - any ideas anyone?

MrABC · 16/07/2013 22:30

spacefrog Hello, welcome aboard.

sarah yep, headaches over here too. Supposed to calm down in the second trimester.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/07/2013 22:42

rosa my results didn't say odds, just low, so i can't talk from experience - but those are great odds! You'd have to be very unlucky. Think of this (not to belittle your fears, but...) If someone offered you a lottery ticket, for £10 instead of £1, but said your odds of winning the jackpot were 958 in 959, you'd buy it, despite the extra £9 cost, right? Without blinking? I would. Surely anything above our 1in5 odds of miscarrying (which is horrifying, looking back) is awesome?

Frizz1986 · 17/07/2013 08:41

rosa I wouldn't feel bad about it. I am only 27 and this is my first but I got a result of 1:750 which I was surprised about as I assumed I would get more 1:1500 as I am under 30.
There may be people older than you who appear to be getting lower risk results but there will be plenty of older and younger people with higher risk (like me)
You just have to remember that it is still a low risk and at the end of the day its only a probability, it doesn't actually tell you anything.
You can have a 1:2000 risk and be that 1 person or be 1:100 and be one of the 99, its just a guide to give you an idea.

Only you know what the best step is for you. I could never get rid of my child and we will deal with whatever is thrown at us. I could never risk miscarriage to find out for sure as I would keep the baby regardless, so for me and dh the nt results just allow us to see if we need to put a bit more effort into looking into how to care for a child with ds so we are more prepared.

Frizz1986 · 17/07/2013 08:41

oh and hello spacefrog

fryingpantoface · 17/07/2013 09:35

MrsVDB · 17/07/2013 10:23

Oh my goodness I've got really bad stitch pain just sat at my desk. This can't be pregnancy related right? It's on my right side by the inny bit of my waist.

sarahleanne · 17/07/2013 10:31

iam so fed up of some days looking pregnant and other days just looking a bit fat and wobbly lol.just though id share that with u all lol :)

keskiviikko · 17/07/2013 10:43

Well they actually managed to do the test, yay! Reading about some of you having headaches, I've had one for the past 2 weeks, but I just thought it was stress! We will get the results by phone on Friday. Also decided to go for the full ktype testing. Not having a much of family medical history thought it would be a good idea.

Sorry to hear that other ladies are going through the ds test stress. I can sympathise. Chins up, and I can say that the amnio test wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. You feel the stab of the needle going in (dr said you will feel a little prick, had to hold the laughter in!) then a really weird pressure sensation as the needle went through the wall of the womb. Bob is obviously not like his Dad who was looking the other way while squeezing my hand, and made a grab for the needle so they had to get the tube in quick, which he grabbed with both hands! Then to top it off I saw the nurse fiddling with a bottle of what looked like pee, and thought she had someone elses urine sample. Turned out to be the amniotic fluid!

Sorry for the mamouth post

chocoloulou33 · 17/07/2013 10:48

Hello lovely ladies. Had a bit of a mumsnet break, have had such a mad couple of weeks. Am 15+4 & finally starting to feel like me again. Sickness stopped last week & starting to eat a range of foods again. Hope its all getting better for the rest of you too. Haven't managed to catch up on all the posts but going to have a good read in a bit on my lunch break.
Has anyone else been told they have an anterior placenta? I have & have googled it but just seems that I won't get much movement & things like that. Is it able to move back into normal position or will it be like this til the end? I have midwife on monday so hoping they will still be able to hear heartbeat & will ask her more about it as I was so excited at scan I didn't rly find out! X

MrsVDB · 17/07/2013 10:50

Wow keski can't believe it grabbed the needle! That must of been amazing and must of made what I'm sure was an awful situation a bit better

BuntCadger · 17/07/2013 11:08

I fell off thread. Sorry. X

BuntCadger · 17/07/2013 11:10

I've been getting stitch like pains and cramps at times. Fairly sure it's all normal as had same with prev preg.

Whoever said about anterior placenta, I had that with dd and meant I didn't feel as much early movement.

BuntCadger · 17/07/2013 11:15

Re nt tests, I still had relatively low risk with dd compared to ds2, but the odds were higher. This time we opted out of the nt test as it wouldn't change our decision and if there was anything significantly concerning it would show on anomoly scan.

The odds are very low from reading some posts, and I guess the real question is what would you do if was Ds? It's a very personal choice and for us it made it clear we wouldn't change anything so made no sense for us to test.

MrsRApilot · 17/07/2013 11:41

Hi all. Haven't been on much as we've been enjoying this gorgeous weather. I have completely lost track of everyone so congrats to all with good scans etc and fingers crossed for those waiting on results.

I've had a pain the bum past couple of days. Started to spot on and off and so went up to the hospital last night. They were really lovely and got me scanned. Turns out have have placenta previa atm and that is probably what is causing the spotting. The doc was hopeful that it would move away from my cervix as I get bigger but until then I'm on total 'pelvic rest'. Means no sex DH nearly cried no mountain biking (on baby trails), no heavy activity at all. With 3 kids and a dog though that's not exactly easy. We've been decorating so I think that, combined with cycling, probably meant I overdid it a bit. Also starting uni in September so really praying that I don't end up with major compications and on bed rest. Has anyone else had this in previous pregnancies?

chocoloulou33 · 17/07/2013 12:26

bunt it was me with anterior placenta. Did u still have a normal birth? Did u have to have any extra scans or anything? Sorry for all questions x

BuntCadger · 17/07/2013 12:43

Apilot - I had low lying placenta with ds1 (13y), I also had spotting whic they said was a small part of placenta as it moved. As uterus grew the plancenta moved up and out of way. Ended up with emergency cs but that was for other reasons. I had extra scans to monitor.

Choco - anterior placenta with dd just meant I didn't feel as much of the little moves, when she got bigger I felt her easily. Birth was very quick and I delivered placenta quickly too without injection x

keskiviikko · 17/07/2013 13:37

Mrsra Not sure what I'd do if they told me no biking! Hope it all settles down soon.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 17/07/2013 14:53

MrsRA sounds tough - can you get help with the kids/dog for a bit?

keski did you get your results?

So hot. So so so hot. I am cross with everyone, including whoever is responsible for this weather. I wish to have a stern word.

MrsVDB · 17/07/2013 14:56

humpty I just went to the loo and ran my feet and ankles under cold tap for 10 mins, it really helped :)

MrsGSR · 17/07/2013 15:46

MrsV I have had a stich type pain a few times, it usually gets better if I stand up so I think it's just everything squishing together.

Those struggling with heat, have you tried the reusable gel cool pad things that you put in the fridge? DH was going through his stuff from afghan the other day and gave me a similar thing they use out there.
