Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
claphammama · 05/07/2013 13:13

This is what I was saying before I had DS flyer! I wasn't maternal at all, none of us was sure we even wanted children and it was only the social pressure that pushed us into having DS. I'm so glad it did! The best thing I've ever done. Now I think I MAY want another one but doubt I will to be honest... more than two is a lot in London... and everything is so expensive here...

I've just had a mountain of tuna sashimi for lunch... It looked so amazing and tender and I had a moment of weakness after months of being good... and couldn't stop myself... It was there staring at me... and I gave in... the guilt is eating me now... please tell me I'm not terrible and it's ok... :-( :-( :-( I hate myself now...

PseudoBadger · 05/07/2013 13:20

It's fine clapham! Like I said before it will either have been made safe by freezing or be inherently safe through sourcing x

BowlFullofJelly · 05/07/2013 13:22

In my infinite medical wisdom it's definitely ok clapham.

I'll confess as well if it makes you feel less terrible - I'm still eating brie, stilton, parmesan etc as reguarly as before pregnant Shock! And not even cooked Shock Shock. And, last Sunday I had a glass and a half of a very good Sauvignon Blanc. So I am a much worse mother than you!

claphammama · 05/07/2013 13:36

thanks both! xx I've been indulging in some very unhealthy self-loathing for the last hour... will relax now! It was so tender and amazing... felt like the best lunch I've had for months

re: drinking - I was telling some mums I met at the drinks last night that I allow myself a glass of wine per week. Most of them were really surprised and told me they were drinking much more! are we all too hard on ourselves?

already excited about my weekly glass tomorrow night... DP is taking me out for a nice dinner as it's my birthday on Sunday.

Smitten1981 · 05/07/2013 13:44

I haven't stuck to the rules at all, I've been eating goats cheese, stilton, cured meat, runny eggs, medium steak, bagged salad. I may also have had half a bottle of wine and a glass of champagne at the wedding I went to last month Blush

I really wouldn't worry about it too much, the food is so processed in this country that I don't think bugs would get much of a chance to thrive.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 05/07/2013 13:54

Clapham - are these people who are currently pregnant? I've noticed a difference in memory from people at work, in that a lady who I clearly remember saying she'd had half a glass in 6 months and it had gone right to her head, now says that she had a glass whenever she fancied one, making me feel that I was being unduly self-limiting with my occasional pint of mild!

Haylebop12 · 05/07/2013 13:58

I've also been eating stuff on the no list... Had a mr whippy on Sunday Smile

This is baby 2 for us, I want another one, dh wants another two. I said I'll see how the next pregnancy goes before I decide on a fourth. If its like dds pregnancy then yes I would go to four but same as this one and no, it's my last! Plus with four of have to look at changing your car too and going up to a four bed house as three beds have one tiny room that you could definitely not fit two Children in! Dh and I are both one of four :-) as I'm 26 in August though I ain't rushin, dh is 32 this month so reckon he'd want to do it a bit quicker!

claphammama · 05/07/2013 14:10

cat none of them is currently pregnant but all had children quite recently. They have 18 month olds, two year olds etc... and yes, I felt very self-limiting last night! hearing their confessions and sipping my lime and soda...

Haylebop12 · 05/07/2013 14:12

I have roughly 2 bottles of beer, usually coors a week. Contemplating a small glass of rosé on Sunday mind!

Shootingstarsandcomets · 05/07/2013 14:23

I have the odd glass of wine. My father is a consultant and very against drinking in pregnancy so I feel so guilty when I have one that it takes some of the pleasure away. Plan on a nice glass of red tonight though Smile
This baby is dc2 and I don't think we'll have anymore. These two will be so close in age and I'd like a break before my next pregnancy so then our third dc would feel left out I think so I'd feel guilty and have to have another and I definitely don't want 4! Two makes sense for cars, holiday, house etc so I think we'll stick with 2.
Anyone else hot? I'm not moaning but I am certainly warm!

Natalieand · 05/07/2013 14:27

I'm too hot shooting went on a mission to get dd a paddling pool for after play school and a strapless top as I'm a bridesmaid in 4 weeks with a 1 shoulder dress and can't afford to be having tan lines lol, I ended up with a £6 paddling pool and have lost count of the times dd has told me how much she loves the pool and loves me for getting it lol so I'm currently in the garden with my feet sharing her pool, never did get a strapless top though :-/

This is dc2 for me I already have a girl and bump is a boy so I see no reason to have anymore after this one xx

Smitten1981 · 05/07/2013 14:28

Ohh yeah, I've been having McDonalds milkshakes and McFlurry's too. They're more enjoyable now they're on the 'avoid' list.

I literally hadn't had either for years before I was pregnant.

I want more kids, I realised how much I wanted a girl when I found out that this one was a boy, I thought I wasn't bothered before I got pregnant so we'll definitely have to have another go!

MotherOfNations · 05/07/2013 14:28

There's a recent study that says that a glass of wine a day is safe during pregnancy and that babies of mothers who drank moderately during pregnancy had better balance than those who abstained. Good balance is a sign of healthy brain development apparently.
I'm not sure I would want to risk it.

Haylebop12 · 05/07/2013 14:30

I'm in work with the air conditioning on and NOT going outside. I'll cry with how lovely and warm it is. I do have my washing out though so that kinda makes up for it!

Flyer747 · 05/07/2013 14:32

Clapham I have 3 glasses of wine a week..my midwife told me that was perfectly acceptable. I've been eating bagged salads (didn't know we weren't supposed to) and I'm now on about 5 mugs of tea per day...we are such a bunch of rule breakers Grin

Natalieand · 05/07/2013 14:35

I haven't even had a mouthful of alcohol since bfp

Had no idea macdonalds milkshakes and me whippys weren't allowed though, as if anyone could go 9 months without that!!!

Soupqueen · 05/07/2013 15:01

Lol, I've lasted 37 years without McDonalds milkshakes or mcflurries, natalie, it's perfectly possible!

That said, I'm pretty sure the milkshakes are not on the "avoid" list. Neither are Parmesan or Stilton, even uncooked.

I've been a bit of a goody 2 shoes with food and drink. It doesn't hurt me to avoid these things for a few months so I decided not to take the risk, even though it may be very small. I also think of Cherry (not seen her for a while?) who got so ill from runny egg in the early days of the bus, so it can happen. I've amazed myself with the booze abstaining, I've always loved my wine!

It's a personal decision though, I don't think there is a right or wrong.

Smitten1981 · 05/07/2013 15:03

Whoop - my MD just emailed saying we can leave at 4 as it's so hot and Andy Murray's on - yeah!

claphammama · 05/07/2013 15:05

who do you work for smitten? I may want to apply for a job there in the future...

claphammama · 05/07/2013 15:08

ps. it's only a rhetorical question smitten by the way :-)

roxvox · 05/07/2013 15:12

I didn't know we were supposed to avoid McDonald's dairy products either! Nor bagged salads... Generally I try to avoid anything on the no no list, and I was never much of a drinker before so am not missing it now. Haven't had an alcoholic drink since bfp, and now that the warmer weather is here and I occasionally fancy a shandy, I have actually found myself quite enjoying that alcohol free Bavaria mixed with lemonade (and DH enjoys it too), sometimes I'll even go all out (if it's a Saturday and I am feeling crazy) and drink it straight out of the can Grin

Smitten1981 · 05/07/2013 15:16

Clapham I think you're better off at your place, TV scheduling is quite boring. Don't know quite how I ended up doing this being as I started off in journalism!

Part of the big plan to bring DH into my life maybe?

PseudoBadger · 05/07/2013 15:20

Mr Whippy (from a van) isn't on the avoid list in the uk but many people do. However mcdonalds Flurries etc are very far removed from those and in my professional opinion are safe.

claphammama · 05/07/2013 15:30

oh the world of TV scheduling smitten! I worked in broadcasting for several years in the past. My very first job when I was still very fresh and excited was writing EPGs... trying to make all programmes sound interesting and create "appointment to view" moments in 140 characters! (and this was way before the age of twitter :-)

FeministInTraining · 05/07/2013 15:32

Thanks Pseudo there was an ice cream van at college for freshers week this week and I was made to feel guilty for even wanting one. Will have one this weekend if there's a van by the park (of course there will be Grin )
Haven't had more than a taste of DPs wine/cider. My mum told him off for looking Hmm at me while I drank some the other week! I do really want a medium steak though but I think we're going to save that for our first meal out after baby is born. I may go all out and get medium rare...
