Yes I thought I would just eat veg dishes as I prefer them anyway. The advice about rice threw me a bit though. Hopefully everyone is too busy worrying about what they are choosing to notice my plate anyway.
Thanks champagne. I'm still eating nuts too, I love them.

littlestgirlguide · 07/07/2013 11:46

Hello all. Glad you are feeling a bit better Champagne, think positive!

I've had my booking in appt thIs morning. Had a lovely midwife who says I might have to r on the consultant led ward because of an unknown allergic reaction last year (very scary, anaphylactic shock, blue lights!) and because of high downs risk last time. She has agreed my dates and says she will bring my scan forward by a couple of weeks so I am happy now. No breast feeding bullying and planning to give birth in the MW led unit if possible like last time, but she will have to wait till tomorrow when the ward clerk is there to give me new dates and so on.

misskatamari · 07/07/2013 12:04

Awwww I'm glad your app went well littlest Grin

Thingy I haven't heard anything about avoiding rice or meat. Is that in general or more because its at a buffet?

vix206 · 07/07/2013 12:14

Reheated rice is well known to be high risk of food poisoning and I guess buffet meat would be the same. I think anything kept warm at a buffet is a bit risky to be honest Confused worst food poisoning I ever had was from eating a 'kept warm' mushroom and roasted veg panini at Geneva airport. Had to miss my flight home and spent 2 miserable days alone in a hotel room with D&V Hmm

Hi miss, glad your appointment went well. Yes its just for buffets because the food might have been reheated or sitting for a long time. Rice isn't supposed to be reheated but I've done it all my life with no problems.

Thingymajigs · 07/07/2013 12:20

Sorry, I'm mixing everyone up. Glad the appointment went well littlest.

vix206 · 07/07/2013 12:24

Yes I've never had a problem with reheating rice either

shopart123 · 07/07/2013 12:55

Well midwife cancelled my booking in appointment this morning because she couldnt allocate my notes! Not really happy as rescheduled now for Friday and my fiancée cant leave work! Just hope this is not how its going to be with the midwife. At the moment just feel like a number. . Suppose that's what we are tho huh

littlestgirlguide · 07/07/2013 13:09

The thing with rice is about getting it to a temperature where bacteria can breed. If you cook it, then keep it hot it's fine and that's what the restaurant should be doing. Alternatively you can can cook it, immediately reduce to chilled and then reheat to piping hot and that's fine too, it's just when it's kept Luke warm that there's a problem.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 07/07/2013 15:23

I am feeling so sick too. I usually manage to eat something in the evening but the rest of the day everything makes me heave. Mostly when I am sick it's just stomach acid I think as there's nothing in me to bring up! MW says sickness is a good sign though so am trying to be grateful for the symptoms. I think people are starting to suspect something as I keep having to cancel my commitments as I can't face doing anything much. Work last night was hellish and have spent most of today horizontal, having cancelled my church commitments. Poor DH is doing everything running round after me and the DC.

I've been looking forward to next week for months as I am going to stay with my mum, going to see a couple of shows in London and catching up with friends but am now dreading it. Just want to curl up in bed with a bucket nearby! Sorry, need to pull myself together and stop feeling sorry for myself!

misskatamari · 07/07/2013 15:40

Awwww sugarmice I feel for you. It is absolutely horrible! I spend days feeling like I can't do anything and its depressing as you just wish you could do something fun but feel too wretched. Try to rest as much as you can, I know it's not easy especially with work and children to look after.

I thought I was starting to feel better and managed to tidy the lounge this morning. Then I went to the supermarket and felt dreadful and sick and have had to lie down and sleep now I'm home. I don't think the heat is helping! I hope you start to feel a bit better and can enjoy your stay at your mums!

Elednor · 07/07/2013 16:19

I've had contraction-like pain since thursday night, on and off Sad It honestly feels like when I first went into labour with my daughter. I've had some bleeding this afternoon - not much, but fresh and coupled with the pain the doctor says it doesn't look good.

I have to wait for my hospital to ring me tomorrow, to let me know the earliest they can get me in for a scan, but it could be as late as friday Sad

I've just come round to the idea of having twins, been looking at twin buggies and twin slings and we've been getting so excited. I have no idea if everything is okay or not, whether or not I've lost one twin or both Sad Sorry to bring the thread down, just feeling crap atm.

misskatamari · 07/07/2013 16:31

Oh Elednor I am so sorry. I can only imagine how worried you must be feeling. It's awful that its so long until they can give you a scan. I hope that everything turns out okay and that the pain and bleeding subside soon. Get as much rest as you can, big hugs x

Elednor · 07/07/2013 16:36

Thanks misskatamari. It's the not knowing that's the worst, roll on scan time.

littlestgirlguide · 07/07/2013 16:37

Elednor that is awful. I hope you've got some support at home and you're not on your own. There's still a chance that it could be ok for at least one twin, though? Sending positive vibes your way x

Elednor · 07/07/2013 16:51

DP is wonderful and will take care of housework and DD etc so that I can rest. Rest and paracetamol is all I've been advised by the OOH doctor, because really, what else can you do? Sad One of the worst parts of pregnancy imo is how little control you have over these things.

Sassy20 · 07/07/2013 18:40

Sorry to hear that Elednor. Hopefully it'll be ok. If I were you I'd go to a&e tomorrow and explain what's happening and hopefully they'll scan you there and then - there's no way you should be made to wait till Friday. X

Sorry to hear the news Elednor. I miscarried at 6 weeks in March and was refused scans so just had to wait days until it became obvious what was happening. I really hope this is cervical erosion or a little blood clot or similar. Rest up and stay positive.

212VIP I hope you're ok after your scan last week.

Take care everyone.

Bearfrills · 07/07/2013 19:52

I agree about going to A&E. Where I live they have a group session with the MW once a week, people go when they get their BFP and she gives out information on what to eat/not eat, leaflets about tests, etc (I was naughty and skipped it this time). The other thing they do at the session is advise on health issues and they always say that for bleeding or pain the fastest route into EPU is to go via A&E. Basically A&E are not equipped to deal with gynae or pregnancy issues so will very quickly bump you over to either gynae or EPU.

I had bleeding when pregnant with DD, the MW said the earliest scan she could get me was for the following week. DH took me to A&E, I was scanned that day.

Good luck, I hope everything is okay.

vix206 · 08/07/2013 06:25

Bearfrills it must vary by area. I was advised that, unless I wanted a 4 hour wait followed by being advised to go home and take paracetamol and bed rest (which I was already doing), home was the best option for me. Sadly 2 of my friends experiences back this up.

Midwife said that obviously if pain was unbearable, or if I was bleeding through a super pad in less than half an hour, a&e was the only option but otherwise the comfort of my own home was best.

I think care varies wildly by area, I just hope the maternity care in my area isn't as insensitive as the miscarriage care. When I started bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant in march my MW said the EPU would 'laugh her off the phone' if she requested a scan!!!!

jazzcat28 · 08/07/2013 09:28

Thinking of you Elednor Flowers

Anyone else struggling in this heatwave? It's making me seemingly even more tired, grumpy and uncomfortable. No significant bump yet but bloating is making my tummy look pregnant and I've already had a few shifty looks at work in my empire-line summer dress today.

Sickness still not kicked in but boobs and nipples still immensely sore.
