Hi

Is there an antenatal thread for March 2013?

If not, can I start one? I've just found out Im expecting our third (and final!!) baby, due 4 March.

Fingers crossed tightly for a smooth ride (I had early bleeds with both my previous pregnancies).

Anyone else out there yet?

jk antibiotics is always the best one - then you can get away with not drinking and it also explains why you might be feeling a little worse for wear!

PiratesMam · 12/07/2013 08:39

I'm not telling the DCs yet as they would both definitely give me away. No sickness here yet so it's not too bad - will probably get sick next week if it's anything like the other two.

jk I think a good excuse that parents will understand is an early trip out in the morning - can you fabricate a long drive you have to make with the kids and say you don't want to be feeling rough/over the limit for it? Oh and also I'm not far from you - am in SE London too.

steph you poor thing - and poor DS!!!

re: exercise - I am counting chasing the DCs as exercise enough for me! Have already put on a pound or two but I'm quite small already, just over 8 stone. Anticipating going over 10 stone again eventually - was 10 and a half for DD and nearly 11 stone for DS!!!! Shock

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 08:41

JK I am Blackheath SE London so not far away!

Have taken a few days off work and DD is in nursery so spending some time in bed as sickness is pretty bad at the moment.

DD was 9lb and a huge head so to be honest anything around the same with a smaller head would be great!

Is anyone else considering not having the nuchal test? We ended up with a 1 in 2 probability with DD and a CVS which was the worst time of my life and I would never go through a CVS again so very undecided what to do. Incredibly she was fine but it was a long pregnancy of tests and heart scans.

That is assuming that the scan tonight goes ok!

Thatssofunny · 12/07/2013 08:44

Thanks for putting my mind at rest a little about the hospitals. Just reading horror stories online...I have to step away from google. Having had private medical cover at home usually meant not ever having to wait for appointments and treatments being carried out to a high (and expensive) standard. My British dentist was amazed at the dental work I had received at home. The same filling would have apparently set me back about £1k here. Additionally, I don't get I'll very often, so haven't seen my GP in two years and have only ever been to a British a&e,...never any other part of any hospital.

Went to a new a&e department yesterday, with light bleeding, and rather panicky and emotional. Will have another blood test at the weekend to check hormone levels, since I'm apparently not far enough to see anything on a scan. Bleeding was very light, though, and no pain at all...so just hoping everything is alright. Meant that work now know that I'm pregnant and I'm off and lazy at home today (seriously, I haven't had a sick day in six years). Hospital staff were lovely, though, and it would be the hospital I'm most likely to give birth in...if we get that far. Gives me hope that it'll be ok to go there. Home birth would be my personal nightmare. I want doctors and people, who can look after the baby, if anything goes wrong. My own birth was very high risk and I spent the first three months of my life in an intensive care unit.
I'll bring my own stuff, then...although I would actually expect a hospital to provide nappies and wipes,...I'm not bringing my own toilet paper, either, after all. Grin Perhaps I'm just spoiled.

rosyryan · 12/07/2013 08:52

Tentatively marking my place, as the pee is hardly dry on the pee-stick Grin

RosyRyan, 30, DD 2.10, EDD March 23rd.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

rosyryan · 12/07/2013 09:03

Thatsso people are very defensive of the NHS and rightly so as it is a fantastic resource, but its understandable that you are a bit nervous of it if you are used to private care. My own birth experience was not great at all, and if I had the money to go privately then I would in a second. Not going to happen sadly!

Twinkly I had a few early scans with my DD due to suspected ectopic and it took about 2.5 weeks after my BFP for things to start showing up on the screen. If you were still testing negative on Thursday then its probably just far too soon, and nothing sinister at all. Its a horrid wait though.

OnTheRunFromTheAcademe · 12/07/2013 09:08

5am We didn't have any testing with DS and won't this time either. We wouldn't terminate on the grounds of potential disability (for various reasons) so don't see the point. Any major health issues that are detectable by scan and that you might want to know about in advance of the birth - if the baby was going to require immediate treatment for example - can be picked up at the 20 week scan.

We're actually thinking of not even having a dating scan as we're pretty certain of our dates (unless it was an immaculate conception iyswim Smile).

Not sure I have the willpower to go that long without a glimpse of the baby though!

TWinklyLittleStar · 12/07/2013 09:59

Thanks rosyryan. I'm starting to think I didn't conceive until around CD26, which would explain the late positive as well. Just got to be patient, which isn't my strong point.

Good luck for later 5am, (sadly 5am is when I set off for work on early shifts so I can confirm it is indeed morning).

thatssofunny I have my fingers crossed for you.

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 10:02

Thanks OnTheRun. I feel the same re termination but just want to be prepared. They also wouldn't have done all the ecg's that we had with DD as a large nuchal can be indicative of heart problems and they can then medically manage the birth.

To me it's the worry that if we don't have the nuchal, the normal scans won't be detailed enough if there were something wrong and also to prepare in case incompatible with life as opposed to the constant worry from the combined test given that my bloods will probably skew the results even if the nuchal was fine this time. Really not sure.. Most people don't give it a second thought and have lovely 12 week scans. We came out with an urgent referral to a specialist unit at Kings.

x0gawjus0x · 12/07/2013 11:25

7 weeks on sunday.. two weeks today until my first scan, time is going ridiculously slow.. still I have four 12 hour days next week so that should help with the time going quicker

just wanna see something there so I can be happy about everything im such a worrier and its shit and this is with my first pregnancy so just hope it all goes well.........

would lovelovelove a little girl !

No morning sickness yet!! I do get dizzy spells though occasionally sometimes lasting all day I just feel like im high lol rather strange Blush

April13 · 12/07/2013 11:33

oooft what a morning I have had. Not really been feeling sick, but have had waves of nausea etc. Until this morning. I went to the loo feeling a bit queasy but only seemed to TMI bring/burp up bile. Thought I was done so turned to leave then had the urge. Never managed to get back round or into a crouched down position. Result. Vomit all over the loo, up the walls of the cubicle, the floor of the toilet and all over my trousers. Projectile does not even explain it. Unfortunately for me I have had Weetabix, tea, water and smoothie this morning, so it was all liquid. Had to clean up using loo roll, praying no-one would come in. Had perfume so copiously -raging though cause only had my Chanel with me- sprayed the toilet (and my trousers) but I still stink of vomit. it actually stinks. OMG. I am the smelly minging colleague. Mortified.

mimili · 12/07/2013 11:42

Oh April what a morning. Do you work far from home? Can you go home at lunch?

Feel betterx

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 11:43

April - I told everyone at work last time before 12 weeks as it's pretty obvious when you fly out of meetings every day and run to the bathroom..

I recommend getting freezer bags to carry around with you (not carrier bags as they have holes in) and a gun to shoot anyone who suggests ginger biscuits...

rosyryan · 12/07/2013 11:47

Oh April you poor soul! Can you nip out at lunch and buy some new trousers?

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 11:47

TwinklyLittleStar - I have a huge amount of sympathy if that's what tme you leave for early shifts.

It's the time that DD wakes every morning without fail and DH and I say that your groclock still has stars so it's not morning yet.. And then she starts jumping around the room and tickling feet till we wake up properly..

Beccadugs · 12/07/2013 11:50

moan alert feel free to skip if you want to

Today I am feeling so terrible, second day off work, I have been sick three times, diahorrea, and have a taste like off cucumber in my mouth. None of this helps with the nausea and I just feel so rough. GP basically told me to suck it up and now I am frightened to go back to them. I'm only 5.5 weeks, and am crying as I write this because I feel so bad. DH has said I can't tell my stepmum or his mum as doesn't want to jinx things so I have nobody to cry on/veg to come and look after me. Just want a bit of sympathy/handholding.

rosyryan · 12/07/2013 12:00

I'm fit for nothing today. I just keep wandering about thinking "oh my god,I'm pregnant. I wonder if it will work out. I hope it works out. Oh my god, I'm pregnant" on a continuous loop Grin You guys are all ahead of me - have you all stopped doing that yet? I can't remember how long it took to sink in with DD.

rosyryan · 12/07/2013 12:03

Becca I think you ought to go back to the doctors and kick up a stink. It sounds like the start of hyperemesis and you need to be really careful not to get dehydrated. Is there a different doctor at the practice you could see? You poor thing, it sounds bloody miserable.

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 12:05

Beccadugs - it gets better. With DD these couple of weeks had the worst symptoms with the tiredness, the nausea and the sickness. For me it's like having the worst hangover you have ever had x 5 and continuous..

I threw up several times a day all the way through with DD but I felt much better overall than in these first weeks. It will pass!

And then I decided to do it all again...

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 12:09

And just re your DH's point, I have told people that I would want support from if something were to happen including my boss at work.

We did this with DD and it was the right thing for us as our 12 week scan lead to a strong possibility of chromosome abnormality and we wanted the support of those people then.

April13 · 12/07/2013 12:10

Beccadugs go back to the Dr's, or phone your EPU. If its coming out both ends, then I would be really concerned about dehydration even if I wasn't pregnant, more more so if I was!!!

5amisnotmorning unfortunately I work 40 miles from home and am in a car share so am stuck here until 1530!!! Emailed DH and told him. He asked if he could keep the email so he could have a proper laugh when I am feeling better. I know he was already laughing at me Hmm

April13 · 12/07/2013 12:11

to top it off he has emailed and asked what we are doing/having for dinner tonight. I think I was just sick in my mouth again.

5amisnotmorning · 12/07/2013 12:33

Beccadugs ditto the message to go back to the doctors. If you can't keep anything in they will need to monitor you.

I hovered on the border of hyperemisis with DD - lost 2.5 stones but could keep down fluids and they kept checking for ketones which were fine.

I feel very similar again to what you a describing and have spent the last 3 days in bed - rest seems to help me as does nibbling plain oat biscuits even though the thought of any food is just repulsive.

Even if it is hyperemisis, it does get better and they can prescribe drugs to help. For most people this is just a short phase in the first trimester.

Thatssofunny · 12/07/2013 13:45

becca that doesn't sound good at all. Have you considered going to hospital? My GP surgery just told me to ring the hospital yesterday (not terribly reassuring and just sent me into a panic) and that they'd possibly want me to come in. Our hospital is too far, so I went to the closest one to where I work. They were lovely and quite patient with the emotional wreck I must have come across as. Hope you are feeling better, soon.

I haven't had any bleeding today, just a little brown discharge when I wipe (sorry...tmi). Still no pain at all, just a bit of pulling in the pelvis every now and then, which the nurse yesterday didn't seem to be worried about. No proper pregnancy symptoms, but then I haven't really had any to begin with. Has anyone had this? Hormone levels will get checked tomorrow again, to see whether they are rising. Bit calmer today, but not feeling like I'm out of the woods, yet.

MummyPig24 · 12/07/2013 14:50

How is everyone doing in the heat? I've been out all day with two 3 year olds. Just got back from a third birthday party, I have to go back out in 5 minutes to set up the stall to sell ice creams at school and pick up ds and my friends ds.

So I am hot, pregnant, nauseous and I have to sell ice creams with 4 children in tow. This is going to be a nightmare. One child is being collected at 3.30, the other not till 6. Pray they all behave!
