Hi

Is there an antenatal thread for March 2013?

If not, can I start one? I've just found out Im expecting our third (and final!!) baby, due 4 March.

Fingers crossed tightly for a smooth ride (I had early bleeds with both my previous pregnancies).

Anyone else out there yet?

I will choose which hospital I want to go to at my booking in appointment. Last time I chose the big hospital in a nearby town and it was fine. They are just busy and my labour was quick so I didn't get to know any of the nurses. The first time I had my ds in a big hospital and my mw was amazing.

This time I am going to ask to go to the little cottage hospital. There is only 6 beds there but I feel it would be best for me. I'd love a home birth but I think I still need to be somewhere like a hospital, but not a hospital iykwim?! So I hope I can go there if they have room when d day arrives!

The good thing about being pregnant is I can't stomach junk food. I tried eating chocolate yesterday and I couldn't. I usually lose weight at the beginning and then gain some during the later stages. Just had strawberries and Greek yoghurt with a drizzle of honey for breakfast and I fancy tuna salad for lunch. I had egg salad yesterday which was delicious although the eggs were not really hard boiled and by the time I had eaten them I remembered they needed to be hard boiled.

Boobs feeling better today, still a bit sore and heavy. But it's my bowels that are giving me the most trouble!

Folks: caffeine. I have a copy of the NHS 'Pregnancy' purple book from DS (who was born last August so it's pretty current). The advice on caffeine is to limit caffeine to 200mg per day. It also lists some averages:
1 mug instant coffee 100mg
1 mug filter coffee 140mg
1 mug tea 75mg
1 can cola 40mg
1 can energy drink 80mg
50g plain choc 50mg
50g milk choc 25mg

I also remember that 'posh coffee' varies considerably in caffeine content. There was an article in the paper when I was last pg about it. I seem to remember Starbucks was pretty weak and Nero pretty strong. But I used to have decaf posh coffee because it is so hard to judge.

I also have tasted a lot of rank decaf tea/coffee. My faves are PG tips for decaf tea and Douwe Egberts for instant decaf coffee. Each to their own though!

With regards to what you have to take in to hospital with you, it's worth checking if your hospital provides formula or not, if you're not intending to bf or want it as a back up option.
My hospital doesn't provide formula, so I took one of those starter packs of little made up bottles with me.
Luckily, bfing worked out ok for me.

I was so worried about hospital care that I was booked in for a homebirth. I was over due so they said I couldn't in the end, as well as DS's heart rate being a bit erratic, but I'd not have managed it at home anyway. I was in hospital screaming for an epidural at 3cm Grin
I didn't get an epidural, as the consultant care ward was full, but apart from that my care was faultless and the hospital was sparkling.

MummyPig24 · 11/07/2013 11:11

Some hospitals provide formula, some don't so if you think you want to use it then you need to check. You may be able to go on a tour of your hospital maternity unit and ask questions then. Both the hospitals I have been to have provided people with formula if they requested it.

Anyone got any predictions on how much they think their baby will weigh? Always a fun game!

LittleMachine · 11/07/2013 11:21

DS was 7lb 13 at 40+11, so I think I'll go for 8lb 1. I think I'm going to be team blue again. I'll find out in 15 weeks!

LittleMachine · 11/07/2013 11:21

Urgh I have to go to work now and I feel sick.

MummyPig24 · 11/07/2013 11:26

I'm not sure if we will find out. I kind of want a surprise for our last baby. Ds was 6lb 12 and dd was 7lb so I am going for 7lb 5oz and I think it will be a boy.

MummyPig24 · 11/07/2013 11:26

Poor you LittleMachine. I hope the day goes quickly for you!

MortifiedAdams · 11/07/2013 11:43

Popoing in to say hello to newbies. Im another one who wouldnt expect a hospital to provide clothes for the baby - surely even UK privates dont?

Is anyone on their second dc? Has your bump popped out a bit yet? Totally worried incase Im furthet along than I thought. It is even a bit wonky like last pg, stcks out more on the left than the right.

JK10 · 11/07/2013 11:48

Ive signed up to walk shine at the end of September, a 26 mike walk around battersea through the night, for cancer, do you think it would still be ok or am I kidding myself?

I used to live a cup of green tea but really don't fancy it at all now! Anyone else gone off foods/smells/ or loving some?

MummyPig24 · 11/07/2013 11:54

JK I have totally gone off junk and craving fruit and salads. By September you should be over the feeling rubbish stage and apparently blooming haha, but just be prepared that you may tire quickly and keep hydrated.

Mortified, my bump was wonky last time too! More to the right than the left. No bump yet but I didn't pop till 16 weeks last time and very late the time before.

Rockchick1984 · 11/07/2013 12:27

No bump yet but bloated - particularly as the day goes on, I look about 5 months pregnant by bedtime then normal by the morning!

Not gone off any foods yet but smells are bothering me, struggle to change DS's dirty nappies although am normally fine with them (well used to them after nearly 2.5 years of them). Going to delay potty training a bit longer, at least now they are contained and I don't have to worry about finding poos in random places Grin

DS was 8lb 6 so I reckon about the same this time - no clue if its a boy or girl yet!

Beccadugs · 11/07/2013 12:35

The thought of any junk turns my stomach! This was the first indication for me that something might be going on!

Have just bought some green tea with lemon which is at least staying down!

Just cried on the phone to doctors receptionist when she said a doctor would call me this afternoon, I was so relieved!!

OnTheRunFromTheAcademe · 11/07/2013 12:37

I don't look or feel pregnant!

My only real symptom is sensitive nipples, which I don't think I would even notice if I weren't breastfeeding. I've been tired, but that's probably just lack of sleep.

I can't remember if I had more symptoms than this last time. I know that nausea and food aversions didn't start till 6/7 weeks. I'm kind of starting to worry I feel too normal!

5amisnotmorning · 11/07/2013 12:46

Can I join?

This is my second, I have DD1 just over two. EDD looks like around the 4th March.

I had hyperemisis with DD and am currently off work unable to keep much food down. It's like having the worst hangover ever on a permanent basis.

Hoped this time would be better but most importantly fingers crossed everything's ok with this one - have a private scan booked for tomorrow as don't want to wait for 12 weeks due to horrendous scans with DD1 (high nuchal). I can safely say that we will be stopping at 2DCs!

JustCallMeBaldrick · 11/07/2013 13:00

Hello!! I'm finally delurking Smile I had a scan this morning which has put me at 6+4, so due around March 1st.
I haven't been posting, as this will be DC4 (and a pill baby!) with the first 2 being twins, so we wanted a head count and a heartbeat :-) Luckily only 1 in there, so it's all systems go!
The nausea hit me last week, and I feel dreadful - at least that's a good sign!
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Beccadugs · 11/07/2013 13:02

Welcome two newbies!

BoobsTooBig · 11/07/2013 13:54

Hi guys I'm New I will be 7 weeks this Sat. This is my first pregnancy, we got pregnant over our wedding weekend! Ideal really :) but a little scared about little one being healthy at this stage. X

Rockchick1984 · 11/07/2013 14:34

Welcome newbies!

Anyone drinking green tea just be aware that it does contain caffeine - I used to think it didn't and was shocked that some brands have higher levels than regular black tea!!!

Beccadugs · 11/07/2013 14:47

Thanks rockchick! You have saved me a google! As I can't stomach coke/tea/coffee/chocolate or indeed most other foods I am going to try not to worry too much about the caffeine content as I am finding it delicious, the first thing I haven't had to force down in two weeks!

Beccadugs · 11/07/2013 14:53

Hmmm, have google further... 1 cup of green tea has about 30mg caffeine (on caffeine levels could drink 6 a day then!!) BUT some studies have shown that it is linked to port foliate uptake (ie sucks the frolic acid right outta you...) so best avoided in first trimester... Ho hum, looks like its back to the what to drink drawing board...

Lambchop14 · 11/07/2013 15:12

Hi all, I'm really enjoying this forum. It's great being able to chat to other people at the same stage as I am. I'm almost at 6 wks and booked my scan yesterday for 7 weeks time. Like most of you, I am also desperate to fast forward time so that I can have my scan and see everything's ok. I still can't believe I'm pregnant as I always thought it probably wouldn't happen. Here I am pregnant with my first :) My only symptoms so far are sore, heavy boobs, bloating and hunger! But I recon as long as I still have symptoms everything on the inside is ok. It's killing me that I can't tell everyone. I've told my parents and one friend but that's it. Stressing at the moment because my holiday is in 7.5 weeks and I need vaccinations. No one can tell me whether its safe to have them or not. If I can't have them I don't know how risky it is to catch something. I can't believe the doctor and midwife don't know whether to recommend the vaccinations or not. Anyone else been faced with a similar dilemma? I also noticed someone said yesterday they caught rubella in a previous pregnancy and I don't have my rubella jab. The doctor said it was quite rare and not to worry. Must try not to get too stressed!! Lol

Lambchop14 · 11/07/2013 15:16

What a long staff! Sorry people! Lol

Lambchop14 · 11/07/2013 15:17

Long spraff that should say! Predictive text got me!

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 11/07/2013 17:21

It hi k with mod vaccinations they can't/won't tell you that they are 100% safe just in case you have a reaction. However, I'd take the risk with the vaccination rather than catching a nasty disease personally.
