Teddybear4 · 24/06/2013 13:43

Hi

Is there an antenatal thread for March 2013?

If not, can I start one? I've just found out Im expecting our third (and final!!) baby, due 4 March.

Fingers crossed tightly for a smooth ride (I had early bleeds with both my previous pregnancies).

Anyone else out there yet?

I never weigh myself. I know I am overweight at a size 16 but I lost a stone and then only put on a stone last pregnancy so hopefully it will be the same this time!

firsttimekat · 10/07/2013 20:19

Can I join? Got a positive result at the weekend and dying to tell people but so far sticking to just DH. It's our first so all new to us. No idea how many weeks I am as have irregular periods but think its probably only 4 weeks. Been trying for about a year so just started the process of talking to the docs, In fact I just had to cancel an infertility scan which was weird but nice feeling!

Just got round to adding myself into the stats. Now to catch up with what's happening on here!

stephie101 · 10/07/2013 20:52

Iv'e chilled out a little now..had 2 cooked meals today....craving chips and gravy...so embracing that...!!!!
Although a mum of two already its like being a 1st time mum with age gap. This will be partners first child...so nice to share it... :-)

Thatssofunny · 10/07/2013 20:53

I haven't weighed myself in years. No clue whether I'm too heavy,..maybe,..I've been a size 14 since I was 16 or so. I've got a huge bum, but I've always had that...because I'm inherently lazy and have to convince myself to go to the pool. (I love swimming and once I'm in the water I'm really enjoying myself, despite having to swim around all these really slow people, who seem to sit in the water and just paddle...but getting there in the first place is the hard bit.) I had wanted to go back to tennis, but the course I want to do hasn't been running for a year now, which annoys me. I had also already decided to going back to rugby next season, since this whole baby-making-malarky was taking so long. Grin Oh well. It's got to wait now and I will try to increase my attendance at water-based activities instead.

Little It's my first, so I'm still a bit weary and seem to panic quite quickly. I'm also feeling myself getting really annoyed with my class really quickly at the moment. Had to take a step back today, because really, they weren't that bad. However, I guess I can attribute that to it being nearly the summer holidays and me having had a very tough year with them. I'm just fed up by now and have no patience left...

I've looked through the pack provided by my surgery and they only seem to offer two of the local hospitals for care. Can I choose where I want to have my baby when it gets to that point? While I'm hoping that everything will be alright, I am worried about the whole "birth choices" thing...to the point where I'd love to give birth in my home country instead of the UK. (Seriously, MRSA,...wards with loads of people in the same room...ewww - I don't like sharing with people I know, let alone a dozen strangers and their screaming offspring - ...hospitals not providing nappies, baby food, wipes and clothing, etc.; not being allowed to opt for c-section if I so bloody well wish...feel like I'm living in the 50s...Shock I do hope these are just some horror stories, I have read...and British hospitals really aren't that crap. I've only ever been to one once,...but didn't need to spend much time there. Staff were lovely on that occasion.)

Coolhand · 10/07/2013 21:12

Just discovered that my post yesterday evening disappeared!Sad

Snapple congratulations on the heartbeat! firsttimekat congratulations on your BFP!

JK10 did you just have the one cup of coffee? You probably know this but there is a max caffeine limit per day during pregnancy which is quite low. My friend (who is a coffee fiend) immediately went off the taste of tea and coffee in both pregnancies - it was like her body knew it wasn't good for her! My last pregnancy I allowed myself one cup a day but when it got to the point where I could feel baby kicking, he would go into overdrive when I had coffee which made me think I was sending the caffeine straight to him! Talked to my doc and she said she gave up caffeine completely during pregnancy - so far this time, I've been trying to stick to herbals and take decaffeinated when I really crave coffee.

TWinklyLittleStar · 10/07/2013 21:26

I just had a scan and they couldn't see the sac at all. The doctor seems to think everything is looking ok and that maybe I'm just not as far along as I think I am, which is hopefully the case as I was still testing negative on Thursday. Still, not what I wanted since some of you are seeing heartbeats :(

IceNoSlice · 10/07/2013 21:36

Thatssofunny I have to indicate a preference for the hospital I want now (well, in the next 3 weeks). There are two that I am supposed to choose from which are in the same county, but I could request a different one - that is actually nearer my house but in a different county - if I want to. The surgery then sends a request to my prefered hospital for me to be booked in, which the hospital can refuse if they expect to be too busy.

Once the hospital is booked, that's where I will have scans and consultant appointments (I have consultant led care).

HTH

LittleMachine · 10/07/2013 21:40

Ah twinkly I'm sure everything is ok. It's such a worrying time.

Thatsso, this is just a horrible time of year! Nearly there.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 10/07/2013 23:01

Oh Twinks . If the Dr is not worried then try not to stress (hard I know). Perhaps you ovulated later than expected and, like you say, are not as far as you thought. From what I understand the heartbeat appears around week 5/6.

JK10 · 10/07/2013 23:27

I'm waiting for the normal 12 week nucheal scan too but a bit worried in case I don't get it in the time frame as we are on holiday for 2 weeks bang on those dates.

It is my birthday today and have arranged a nite out on sat, so gonna be really hard to hide it with ppl buying me drinks!

Fruitpastille- I really understand how u feel, we hadn't planned this pregnancy at all and came as a total shock, in fact it still doesn't quite seem real, we are extremley lucky as we seem ridiculously fertile but also really hard when we already have 4 children together and our little family was complete to suddenly discover I'm pregnant with number 5! I was really upset actually which makes me sound like the most horrible and selfish person as there are so many ppl struggling to conceive including a very close friend of mine. I have massive worries about splitting my time between my kids and so they all get the equal attention that they deserve.!im scared stiff of other ppl's comments. I already get comments about having 4 (we wanted 4!) they tent to look and judge u! We pay are way in everything, don't even receive child benefit but ppl do just have a way of making u feel rubbish!! Anyway this little one, even though a shock had a beating heart and will be loved by those who count, regardless. It will all be fine and u will manage perfectly, us mums always do!

Sorry for the ramble guys! Just been on my mind! X

JK10 · 10/07/2013 23:30

Oh my gosh! Has not had a beating heart.
Ooooh wow hope I haven't just cursed myself x

JK10 · 10/07/2013 23:54

Ok so my head is all over the place!! I was typing in my iPhone, so didn't realise there was a whole other page of posts.

Twinkly- try not to stress, the heart kinda develops at week 6, so u could just be a fraction before that. The doctor didn't seem concerned so u shouldn't be. Very hard but the best thing is to try and relax and wait for the next one, try not to get yourself stressed.

Cool hand- u are so right! I went to a play/cafe with friends for my birthday, had 2 cups of americano! Only found out I was pg yest after 2 neg tests, so need to change my ways! I'm so silly, didn't even think of the caffeine thing!!

That's so funny- where is your home country? Have u considered home birth? Usually once u choose your hosp then that is the one u stick with for app/scan/blood/birth! However if have a problem u Do have the right to change! They tend to make a fuss over paperwork etc but it is up to the patient!

Going bed now to try actually sleep instead of worrying about number 5! Eeeek!! I'm usually such a chilled person! It's ageing me by the minute!! Nite guys!

HotCrossPun · 11/07/2013 00:13

I wish I hadn't found out so early on as well. I'm the worlds most impatient person and I just want to speed everything up so I'm at the properly pregnant stage and can let myself get excited.

Has anybody else had bad headaches?

For 3 days I've felt really hungover, that way where your brain is rattling around in your skull Grin

Volleyfeet · 11/07/2013 03:24

Congratulations on the heartbeat snapple!

Fingers crossed twinkly that the scan was just slightly too early. Sure everything will be fine at your next one. Did the private company offer you a repeat?

Still feels quite surreal. Starting to get properly nauseous now which isn't pleasant. Have also had some earaches like you hotcross and feel tired. Have my midwife appt booked for the 24th and a private scan on 27 th so hopefully will start to feel more real after that! Haven't seen a doctor, the receptionist just gave me a pack and told me to phone the midwives for an appointment.

TWinklyLittleStar · 11/07/2013 05:49

It's not just the lack of heartbeat, there wasn't even a sign of a sac, but my sister tells me my nephew was hiding in the endometrium and couldn't be seen at this stage, so I'm going to try to put it out of my mind. Follow up on 29/7, so hopefully I'll be able to see something then.

Yes to the headaches, I never get them normally but I've had them almost constantly for the last few weeks. The nausea is much worse in the early morning too, I feel properly rough at the minute.

stephie101 · 11/07/2013 06:35

Been up since 4am....why?????
Pretty much hungry as soon as i wake..boobs feeling a lot better today.
TWINKLY: Not all scans are that good, iv'e found that our bits and bobs are all in different places, like with smears..I slope backwards and can be difficult to do the procedure. How far will you be on your nxt scan?xx

mimili · 11/07/2013 06:57

stephie my boobs don't hurt at all either today, but were very sore yesterday. I'm also struggling with sleep. I was awake at 2am and it felt like I'd had a full nights sleep. And then again and 5am and 6am. As a result I know feel hungover!
Wishing you all a good day today.

x0gawjus0x · 11/07/2013 07:06

Anyone around 7 weeks inbox me i need people i can talk to everyday throughout preg if need be!! Im 21 in 3 months and have been trying with OH since i was 18!! First bfp ever Long time coming soo worried and happy! :) best of luck to absolutely everyone x

x0gawjus0x · 11/07/2013 07:06

Im also a nurse if there are any out there!! X

RugbyWidow7 · 11/07/2013 07:48

Morning ladies, wow, a lot of nighttime posts. Sorry to hear you're not sleeping - that's the worst. I am definitely tossing and turning a lot more and bing awake when dh's alarm goes off at 6am.

I've been really tired, constipated and bloated, and on the edge of a headache the whole time. Boobs are feeling heavy.

I wish we could skip forward six weeks! I had a scan at 5 & 8 weeks last time, so waiting until 12 weeks feels unreal. It's going soo slowly!

The caffeine thing is tricky. We have large cocoa mugs so I guess I'm getting two cups in my one cup. I'm trying to limit to two cups a day so that means I shouldn't have any more. Apart from I was desperate for a diet coke when out yesterday, which is full of caffeine right. Think I need to stop my morning caffeine in take altogether, just in case I have chocolate, coke etc later in the day!

Rockchick1984 · 11/07/2013 08:11

Morning all! Rugby I like a huge bucket mug of coffee too so I either have decaf or a small spoonful of regular and a small spoonful of decaf in there if I need the caffeine hit! Asda Gold Decaf (with a blue lid) is the nicest I've found, I think I've tried pretty much all the branded and supermarket own brand decaf coffees

April the bloating and constipation will probably account for your weight gain, don't worry! I know I put a lot of weight on during pregnancy as I'm constantly hungry - first pregnancy I gained nearly 5 stone Blush so trying to eat healthily at the moment to minimise that!

x0 everyone on here is due around the same time, you will probably get more conversation by chatting on here than inboxing - helped me a lot in previous pregnancies too as there's pretty much always someone online if you're worrying who can hold your hand or put your mind at ease :)

Thatssofunny I had a fantastic experience on the NHS having DS - of course you have to provide nappies, wipes, clothes etc yourself though, anything the NHS provides comes out of one big pot of money which is already struggling to provide surgery to many people, why would they pay for incedentals like that? Most hospitals have private rooms where you can stay postnatally if you are happy to pay for them, think they are £50 per night at my local hospital so not expensive if that's what you would prefer. There's also private hospitals if you're not keen on the NHS where I believe it's around £10-15k to have private care and delivery. May be a better option if you're not keen on NHS?

I've been having dizzy spells again - low blood pressure even when not pregnant seems to go worse as soon as I get a BFP! On holiday this week so good excuse to just sit in the sunshine and make DH look after DS Grin

RugbyWidow7 · 11/07/2013 08:44

I also had a great experience with my last birth at an NHS hospital. Really couldn't fault it. The staff were amazing and I had a whole ward virtually to myself. I quite liked taking all my baby 'kit' in for my new arrival - he had his own little bag full of things we'd chosen to use on him. I seem to remember they also supplied some nappies etc if you ran out.

Thanks for the recommendations Rockchick. The best decaf tea I've found so far if you're also a tea drinker is the Yorkshire Tea version. Tried a couple of really horrid ones along the way.

Wuxiapian · 11/07/2013 10:29

I have nothing but praise for the NHS hospital who cared for me.

Of course, you take your own nappies, baby clothes, personal bits, etc - is that so unreasonable?

You could, of course, pay to go private.
