Hi everyone, hope you had good wkends, I'm looking forward to my holiday next Saturday (although won't be the usual sunbathing with wine flowing!), still can't wait just to relax especially as I'm feeling a bit rough and sick today! Work are piling on the pressure ahead of my hols but who cares, in one week I will be off for two weeks woop!

Just wondered when the really preggers people started to get lightning crotch/cervix pangs? So I can be prepared and not go into cervix panic!

Do it Hazel, worth it just to see the look on their faces!

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 11:12

Definitely worth a go Hazle! No double back flips though hey superwoman

Cavort · 21/06/2013 11:27

Grin at trampoline bouncing.

My friend took Castor Oil at 5pm and was in active labour by 7pm. She did have 2 solid hours of projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhoea in between though which is not that appealing, but I might reconsider this view if induction is fast approaching. Getting labour started with a dose of the Brad Pitts still sounds better than some of the stories about that drip! Grin

"A small study of 100 overdue women found that 58 per cent began active labour after a single dose of 60ml of castor oil. This was compared with four per cent who started active labour after receiving no treatment.
Taking the castor oil did no harm to the mums or babies, but all the women who took it felt nauseous. However, bear in mind the study was not large enough to be conclusive.
If you want to try castor oil, Talk to your GP or midwife at your next antenatal appointment. The usual dose is 114ml (4fl oz) of castor oil mixed with orange juice."

HazleNutt · 21/06/2013 11:31

Hm I might try the trampoline before castor oil..does not sound very pleasant. It's probably just the laxative effect of the oil, so maybe some lactulose could do the trick?

BraveLilBear · 21/06/2013 11:38

Good luck Purple! Hope it goes well and doens't hurt too bad... everything crossed...

Lactulose works in a different way I think - it breaks down the ahem waste, whereas I think castor oil and other laxatives irritate the bowel (and other organs ie uterus).

I've seen midwives on here warning against it - it can make you very poorly and if you lose too much fluid, could hinder labour because of dehydration etc...

Think I'd prefer the drip tbh Confused

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 11:50

Well I can report back that it wasn't at all painful, less so than last time and that was only uncomfortable, this was genuinely no pain at all and it was a student who did it. Cervix still posterior but thinning and approx 1cm dilated so they managed to 'get a finger in and give it a good jiggle around' (their words, apologies for the rather graphic image)so fingers crossed things are at least heading in the right direction!
So on my experience, sweeps are nothing to be afraid of unless you're phobic about being naked from the waist down spread eagled on your bed with two women looking at your bits! Hope this helps with your fear Cavort if you do have to have one but I suppose everyone is different and maybe it does hurt for some people.

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 11:52

I'd rather have a sweep than castor oil from the sound of it anyway!

BraveLilBear · 21/06/2013 11:53

sweeps are nothing to be afraid of unless you're phobic about being naked from the waist down spread eagled on your bed with two women looking at your bits!

That'll be me then! Blush I'm not very brave at all really.

Glad you found it ok though - next stop, gym ball bouncing??

janey1234 · 21/06/2013 11:58

Good work purple! Reassuring for everyone I'm sure that it wasn't too terrible

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 12:00

Going for a 'swim' (waddle around the pool) first then yes, I think gym ball bouncing and eating ice cream might be in order. Not that I expect anything to happen but if I can at least encourage things along it means if/when they do have to induce me it's less likely to fail. Next sweep Monday. I really really am going to get around to packing my hospital bag this afternoon. Someone give me a kick me up the doodah if I don't! I can't KEEP putting it off!

Alexandra6 · 21/06/2013 12:07

That's really reassuring purple! With my clomid and cervix scans, I'm getting quite used to being spread eagled with strange people looking at my bits, it's usually male consultants so two women would be a step up embarrassment wise! Grin I didn't like the idea of sweeps so good to know it wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the castor oil warning bear!

Cavort · 21/06/2013 13:37

Ah that's reassuring news then Purple or you are a good liar. Wink No, i'm not at all bothered at the thought of strangers going in elbow deep, it's just the pain I have issues with. My MW said she will have a look to see if my cervix looks favourable and let me know before proceeding, so if it's still closed I will be saying no but FX it's already effaced and dilated a bit.

Enjoy your swim and make sure you let us know the very second you have a sign of impending labour. And pack your bag! Grin

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 14:05

No lying I promise although maybe it's your ideas about elbow deep that have made you worry, I'm not a cow! (Visions of vets with those big gauntlets on up to the shoulder!) Wink

You can be assured that I'll be on here announcing every twinge though - after all, I told you lot about my BFP a good 6 hours or so before I even told my OH!

HazleNutt · 21/06/2013 14:27

I think we told someone about their BFP before they actually took the test, because they had the symptoms - who was it?

janey1234 · 21/06/2013 14:29

We did, was it mother?!

HazleNutt · 21/06/2013 14:34

And I'm with you re: twinges purple. Reminds me of pregnancy symptom spotting, now we've moved on to labour symptom spotting-knicker checking. Pretty much the same, except 'are my boobs sore' I now have 'hmm, is that backpain?'

Alexandra6 · 21/06/2013 14:34

Grin at elbow deep vet treatment! That really made me laugh!

cavort, purple and hazle just wanted to wish you all lots of luck as I won't be online out in Spain so I'll be missing out! (although very glad work can't reach me!) janey has promised to text me exciting news, including hers! janey feel free to lie edit the news and tell me how easy child birth was for all of you Grin only joking, I want details! I'll be back soon to congratulate you all! x

I think it was Brave who we bullied into encouraged to POAS. Grin

Is that the sound of a bag being packed Purple? Wink

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 14:47

Yeah yeah! Alright I'll go and do it!

Have a fabulous holiday Alex - I hope you have a lovely relaxing time.

BraveLilBear · 21/06/2013 15:11

Twas me indeed who was cajoled into POAS. Was adamant AF was on her way. But eventually left work on time, sprint-walked to get to Boots on way home, made them keep the shop open while I grabbed the cheapest pack (so unconvinced) and then waited until the next morning to test.

Went positive in about three seconds flat (before control window even full!)

Feels like a million years ago!

Have a fantabulous holiday Alex Grin

Purplemonster · 21/06/2013 15:19

Funny isn't it because BFP does feel like a long time ago and yet pregnancy seems to have flown by, can't quite figure out where the time has gone!

Right, I think I've done all the packing I can do, I think everything else will need to be last minute. Don't know what all the fuss was for, only took 5 minutes Wink (have probably forgotten half the stuff I need and that's why it was so quick)

janey1234 · 21/06/2013 16:00

Oh yes brave sorry, 'twas you! I think I privately bullied mother via PM's. Blush

MotherOfCleo · 21/06/2013 16:03

haha, yep janey I remember your messages, I was terrified it was a chemical and you were sure all was fine and I was being daft. Turns out you were right! Grin

Frogcatcher · 21/06/2013 19:41

Well I missed all the sweeps, veterinary discussions & bag bullying due to my last afternoon at work!
Got your car park change Cavort?

I am now officially a lady of leisure or unemployed depending on whether you are a pessimist or optimist. My colleagues got me some lovely flowers so I felt quite touched but luckily the hormones stayed at bay so I didn't blub. A leaving present is also on its way by post apparently as there wasn't time to organise before.
Just worried myself with reading about another MMC on the Jan 14 thread. Still no date through for my scan so think I may get another private one to reassure me.
I swear I feel better today too which doesn't help tho obviously at almost 11 wks I guess that's normal.
Any news hazle? You do realise that we are going to ask that at 2 hour intervals don't you?! Grin

Frogcatcher · 21/06/2013 19:42

Or even purple with the bag?! Sorry!
