New thread as we appear to be talking a fair bit!

Lets hope we've all given birth by the end of this one :-)

Aml my drinks were a god send especially when pushing with the gas and air (if you do it naturally obviously not for c sections) as your mouth is really dry I'd puff push then swig repeatedly till baby was here

Also relied on my knickers and 2 pairs of loose trousers/bottoms after (we stayed in one night) but didn't need the tshirts/jumpers as I bf so was shirt off most of the time just had one baggy one of hubby's for visitors and then one to go home also didn't need all the baby clothes just a baby grow and sleepsuit took a hat but we brought her home in the bandage one and then a blanket. Mat pads obviously but our birthing centre provided them so double check as I took a whole pack and didn't use them (could have saved space) we also took whole small bag of nappies but only used 5 in 24 hrs so could have saved space there too

cupcake78 · 16/06/2013 07:39

Well I'm also waiting (impatiently).

Been getting all the relevant signs but nothing hurts enough or sticks around long enough for it to be labour. Only 38+4 and have a feeling there's no rush from the baby, its just pottering about instead of any commitment Hmm. His big brother did a similar thing but took 4 days and nights to fully get going.

Congratulations to those of you who are experiencing sleepless nights due to baby snuggles!

I'm looking forward to being done with being pregnant. Finally having my baby and stopping all this waiting about and not knowing! Being able to walk and not in constant pain (spd). But for now its hormone hell, constant niggles, back ache, sleepless nights mainly due to ds1 (he's 6 in 3 months fgs!). How I'm going to manage him and a baby I don't know but I will have to.

Longing for childbirth must give the men folk some idea if how hard pregnancy is.

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 07:40

Thanks pink! And well done! That's impressive indeed at this point- don't think I was showered before midday for ages!Grin

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 07:42

X post cupcake- I'm with you! Will miss feeling baby wriggle around but am ready to have my body back and to start adjusting to life as a family of 4 now!

pinkbear82 · 16/06/2013 08:10

're hospital bags - I have to say I hardly used anything I took!! (apart from the essentials) should have packed some flannels to help keep me cool as we ended up using babies muslins!
maybe if we had stayed in longer more of it would have been useful.

little lady did amazing last night woke up for her feeds and settled right back down again. she was so good at one point dp woke me to ask if I had fed her - he is right next to me and slept thru it all Smile

with the latching on - does anyone seems find they latch on better on one boob compared to the other? violet almost self latches on my right but my left takes forever and she never seems to feed for long from
it.

forgetmenots · 16/06/2013 08:21

Hospital bags - I ended up in hospital for ten days so I used everything! Big pluses for me were disposable changing mats, breast and mat pads (the ones provided were a bit thin), primark knickers multipack and nightshirts.

If you've got a Kindle, don't leave without it :)

massagegirl · 16/06/2013 09:18

Yep Thea latches on MUCH better on the right boob, and seems to be more efficient feeding there too.
Hospital bag... Muslins, cooling water spray, snacks for energy after labour were all really useful, blankets and vests for baby not as much as the hospital was unbelievably hot!

pinkapples · 16/06/2013 10:01

Yup theiah prefers the right but its a bit sore now going to speak to midwife today as not sure she's got enough boob in or not far enough in as its quite stabby when she's on im not giving up as it is just bearable but obviously dont know what to expect. anyone else got pain or is it completely painless?

learnermummy · 16/06/2013 10:01

Congratulations kiwi GrinGrinGrin

AlohaMama · 16/06/2013 10:38

.Pink it's definitely not painless here. Tbh even if bf-ing is going well and you have a good latch etc I think it can take a good couple of weeks for your boobs to get used to it. Even then the let down can be momentarily painful.

AmI the open house went great I think. House looked sparking, we hid out at our friends all afternoon. I think there were 10 appointments, 4 so far have said hey will be making offers so we're hoping for a bidding war!!! I like the system here where if the market is good its all over in a day. When we sold our house in 2008 it took 18 months!!!!

Things I'd forgotten about bf-ing since ds-1. Blood blisters on nipples, 2. Remarkable ability of babies to suck while apparently fast asleep, 3. Milk fountain when they pull off (milk all over the clean bed sheets, sigh)

AlohaMama · 16/06/2013 10:48

And 4. Ridiculous gargantuan size of milk-filled boobs, and paired with that, 5. Ridiculous comedy look of said boobs when lo has only fed on one side!

Mawgatron · 16/06/2013 12:16

Arrrrggghhh! Stop talking everyone! Gonna take me ages to cath you all up!

2nd day home, still over the moon. Dh's parents over later bringing us everything to cook us roast dinner. Everyone has been amazing, and although we have had lots if visits, they have all been mini and everyone knows when to fuck off!

Community midwife has been, Baxter is doing brilliantly, feeding well (also constantly! Very greedy little man!), nappies looking good. Managed to be a bad mum initially- totally weed in his own face when I changed his nappy Blush. Got to grips with that one now though thank goodness. Also, stitches healing well. Have yet to brave a poo yet. Will cross that bridge with trepidation.

Hoping all of you waiting don't have long now, I can imagine how frustrated you must be. And actually, I think fuck off is an appropriate answer for annoying is he here yet questions...

Promise to catch up properly soon, inevitably when I have a tiny person hanging off my boob! Loves x

pinkbear82 · 16/06/2013 12:39

pink we have a sharp pain when first latching on and then it goes - turns into more of a tickle on the nipple. I do have a few bruises a) from fingers pinching and b) from being distracted and the sucking being mis guided!

dp's two girls are with us today and are adoring their little sister. having more than just a newborn in the house is quite exhausting! I don't envy you lot with more than one on a permanent basis!

pinkapples · 16/06/2013 13:08

Maw I'm 3 days post delivery and no poo yet I can't bring myself to mind you it helps that I don't actually need to go

Midwife been here to mentioned slime all normal Grin choking on saliva normal Grin attachment good and she said the damage was probably from the first few feeds Grin Theiah has lost 9% of her birth weight but she wasn't concerned as poos/wees normal wakes for feeds and good attachment so all good she said she should put it on when milk comes... No milk yet so dreading hoping that comes in soon so she can have a proper feed

RueDeWakening · 16/06/2013 13:20

Pink I'm still getting pain when latching on, mostly that goes fairly quickly (not atm as I have blocked ducts AND thrush, gah). The technique I was taught in NICU with DS1 helps, it's a deep latch which means you put more boob in their mouth to start with by kind of pinching your boob in a C or a U shape depending on which hold you're using - there's a fairly good video on YouTube showing it .

Steffanoid · 16/06/2013 13:51

still waiting, oh got his fathers day card with a note saying sorry I'm not there in person but mummys tummy is comfy, I'll come to meet you soon Smile
ohs parents are here Tuesday -thursday then his dad is France for a week and his mum is back at work so hoping Tuesdays sweep helps somewhat so they get to meet him, have resorted to pineapples but juice not tge actual thing cause I cant stand pineapples so tge bottle I've got has the juice of 6 pineapples in it, im thinking I can down that quite quickly and if it doesn't make baby arrive it'll make me ill, entertainment either way
oh did think of thrown up luminous pink last night as I spilt gaviscon and didn't manage to clean all of it

im bored of waiting now, I want to meet this baby

pinkapples · 16/06/2013 14:49

Rue that video is fab makes sense too hehe still getting a pinched nipple so not there yet but will keep trying its not to painful so that's good and she got on almost straight away she's had 20 mins so she's sleeping now Grin time for a Brew

ella0 · 16/06/2013 14:49

Don'tmind, I could have written your feeding paragraph almost word for word. I'm having exactly the same problem; my baby is usually ok during the day, but at night she's feeding for 5-10 minutes, falling asleep (we've tried all the usual tricks) but then crying out to be fed 5-10 minutes later. And this can go on for hours and hours and hours. I'm breastfeeding, but have started expressing so my husband can help out during the night. We have formula as back-up too as there are some days when she feeds so much I literally don't have time to express enough (I'd love to build up a stock but I've no idea if that will ever happen!). She also hasn't regained her birth weight yet (she's a big baby).

Pinkbear, my baby is good at latching on to both sides, but she has had a lot of practice (see above!)!

I don't get pain; I've been told if you do it means the latch is wrong. I'm still on painkillers after the c-section though, so maybe that's why! I do feel a bit sore after a lot of feeding though. I do what Rue mentioned, and pinch my boob into a shape so she can fit lots of it into her mouth (deep latch).

Regarding bras, I'm loving my Bravado bras. No worrying about the correct size (other than S/M/L) as they stretch and shrink to size, and they are so comfortable.

I definitely took too much to hospital. We were told to take a few packs of maternity pads, which half filled my bag, but I didn't need any as the hospital provided them while there, and also my lochia was virtually non-existent after my c-section (I didn't need the mats I'd bought for waters breaking/ lochia at all!). I bought way too many pads after reading stories on here, I'll have to keep them for the next one!

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 16:15

Thanks for the hospital bag feedback ladies!

Pinkbear I've just realised that your dp got home just in time for his first Father's Day with violet- cute!

All of these feeding comments are making me worry a bit as to how difficult it is I have to be honest! But then its also good to see the tips and have a few of them in mind ready!

Has mrsbri been around today yet? Wonder if there's some progress there?

MrsBri · 16/06/2013 16:19

Hello! No, no progress. I've been catching up on sleep by napping on the sofa while DH is off working.

I'm resigned to a July baby :-/ Though I'm hoping baby surprises us!

DH loved his card from bump :-) Just a shame baby didn't pop out in time to give him baby as a present!

Hope everyone is OK and that everyone manages to resolve feeding issues soon. It makes me appreciate the support I'll get up here, to be honest.

AlohaMama · 16/06/2013 16:26

Bf can be difficult at the beginning its true, but then for a lot of people its a few weeks of difficult then months of easy, so don't any of you get put off if it what you want to do.

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 16:29

I was all excited for you then!

And I didn't mean that I'm not liking the comments in feeding- just read it back and realised that's how it sounded! I just meant that they're putting it into perspective that its not something that is easy by any stretch!

Mawgatron · 16/06/2013 16:51

I am not finding it too bad! Not trying to be annoying and rub it in, more to reassure worriers that not everyone finds it hard. He doesn't hurt when he latches, he is just a little tuggy for the first few sucks and then settles into it. The only problem I have is he get too relaxed and falls asleep every 8 sucks so I have to tickle his feet to wake him. He has big feeds every 2-3 hours roughly, but will feed for a good 20 mins/half hour per breast. It is definitely a long process, but I am not finding it painful and he is def getting plenty as he is doing loads of wet and dirty nappies. His poo has changed already too even though he was only born on Friday. So don't despair, not everyone has a hard time!

pinkbear82 · 16/06/2013 17:09

ami - I know! I was over the moon :) luckily had forward thought and got him a card, present didn't arrive in time but think he was more than happy being home and being with his girls.

with the breastfeeding - it may have niggles at times but 99% of the time I love it. even those middle of the night feeds where my heads rolling more than a newborns would and I fight to keep my eyes open!!

I'm still slightly amazed at how many things violet's managed to accumulate!! how can such a small thing have so much stuff?!

redwellybluewelly · 16/06/2013 17:29

Re hospital bag, I had a CS and was in four days.

We used all three sets of vest/babgro and both blankets, probably about 20nappies but they supplied wipes and cotton wool. I used 8 pairs of soft big knickers keeping comfortable, and quite a few maternity pads but first two days they wanted me to use the hospital ones (?), I didn't use my PJ bottoms but both nighties, came home in what I wore in, toiletries wise I used shampoo/shower gel / Deodorant/Toothbrush /lipsyl. Did use muslins and also a water face spray.

Biggest thing for me was snacks (fruisli bars and apples/banana) and flat lucozade drinks. Especially after I started being sick and keeping hydrated was an issue.

Baby welly is a hungry but windy baby. Also very dry, skin is peeling all over. Oh and sicky. Oh boy is she sicky!
