Starting yet another thread as us chatterboxes have filled up 2 already!

Jucy, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs, wish there was something more I could say. Flowers

Frouby, if you're feeling crap just fuck the housework off, I do! It'll keep.

I'm scared and excited in equal measures about the scan on Friday. Looking forward to seeing bean and being able to get on with things. But obviously scared of getting bad news like Jucy... 2 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes to go!

My friend has offered to be a birthing partner too. I may well take her up on it, I suspect she'll be more help than OH. And as I'm planning on having a home water birth and OH has already invited his bloody mum (!) think it'll be good to have a friend there. I'm not private at all, have zero issues with people seeing me naked (as my neighbours will tell you) and she's seen me throw up enough times from our party days (though never shit myself to be fair) that I'm not too fussed about that.

Morning all,
Sorry its been a while since I last checked in and hope everybody is well (or as well as we can be...).

I finally have my second dating scan today and i'm pretty worried, just got to get through to this afternoon though and hopefully everything will be fine!

TakingTheStairs · 28/06/2013 09:11

Queen I'm sorry you got so stressed at your appointment yesterday. I don't think changing hospitals and consultants is necessary. It was only one bad midwife. What happens if you change and you get the same. Just ask your consultant to put in your notes that this midwife doesn't deal with you and then you'll be problem free :) (hopefully)

Holly1977 · 28/06/2013 09:17

For those of you having a tough time, if it makes you feel any better I'm super emotional ALL the time. I cry most days. Partly hormones, partly my OH being an annoying thoughtless bloke, partly work stress, partly tiredness, partly anxiety about everything pg and baby related and this week partly Glastonbury envy. I'm a mess! But finally I have a nice pg symptom!!! My hair has suddenly randomly and inexplicably gone really really nice. Really smooth and glossy Smile about frigging time! Bump is getting quite big, I've got a few mat trousers but they're all too long and I can't sew so I'll be squeezing into these ones with the baby band on top for another week or so.

Friend sent me a link about a big mat clothes sale at Mummy and Little Me. Never heard of them myself, I think there's a store in Leeds. Anyway, worth a look.

Must say I'm quite enjoying the attention having had a lifetime of bugger all, from my parents anyway. Whenever I go to my parents' house the first thing everyone says (parents, cousins, other relatives) is "show us your belly then" !!! They were even taking pictures last night and showing it off on Skype to other relatives abroad! Good job I'd just eaten a big curry so was particularly massive. So looking forward to the big contented waddling whale stage!

I haven't felt any movement yet, 14 + 4 now...

stairs life is too short to hem trousers if you don't have a sewing machine. Just get some hemming tape from the supermarket sewing section and use that. You can just rollover the extra fabric, put the tape between the extra and the leg and iron it to bond it. If they are very long cut off the extra fabric and fold over twice.

I'm feeling rotten today. Exhausted and tummy ache, I think twiglet is starting to push my insides up. 17+1 and no movement yet, can't wait as this still feels very surreal.

Holly1977 · 28/06/2013 09:58

Ooh, really? I didn't know that was a thing! Good tip, thanks! Sorry to hear you're feeling crap. I know what you mean, maybe feeling movement will finally make it feel real?!

Morning all

I felt definate flips last night in the bath lol. I'm just 15 weeks today but you do have to concentrate hard and I suppose it could just be wind.

TMI ALERT
Anyone else struggling with really hard poo? Dear lord, if pushing a baby out is anything like a big poo I want an ELCS. Bought a huge bottle of orange juice this morning to try and soften things up a bit lol. But I got off the loo quite traumatised pmsl.

I think we have days when we feel great and days when we feel shit to be honest. I'm lucky in that I 'work' from home (when I can be bothered or am a bit skint or need something lol) so if I have a shit day I can just have a snooze. But I do feel for all you ladies who battle with work on top of Pgy. I did last time and I was bloody shattered by the time DD arrived. My advice would be if you feel rough, take a day or two off to recharge your batteries. No one can say anything at work to you and if they do, just send them my way to deal with!

And with regards to feeling emotional, I blubbed like a baby yesterday at OBEM, snapped at DP then felt guilty and had a go at my sister. They will have to suck it up I'm afraid!

Roselau · 28/06/2013 10:46

Morning all,

I read all these articles that say that these are the glory days... anyone else still waiting for the infamous 'pregnancy glow'? I have the worst hay fever I've ever had. runny nose, sneezing all the time, headaches and teary eyes. Let me tell you I'm not glowing.

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow, no movement yet :(

TGIF! hope you all have a great weekend.

Holly1977 · 28/06/2013 11:08

Yes Frouby, my poos are all very hard and hard work, when they bother turning up at all. Which is kind of ok as I have colitis so normally have diarrhoea pretty much all the time. But sometimes it gets a bit much and I'd love to be able to solve it with my preferred solution of a pint of ale and a fag, but obviously wont be doing!

I'm still waiting to be glowing too Roselau! Maybe I'll just feel a bit meh the whole time to make up for not having morning sickness?!

OP posts:
mumoftwoboysS · 28/06/2013 11:11

Wouldn't say I'm glowing but my skin has just done a massive turn around in the last week or so from majorly spotty to smooth and clear-yay!! I'm hoping it'll stay this way now. 1st pregnancy I got the skin glow, 2nd was bad all the time, this time bad then good! It's not true what they say about being able to tell the sex from your skin then as mine has been different each time.

Belly somewhat deflated today Hmm missing my bump! Still no movement despite treating myself to my one French coffee of the week (followed by a selection of delectable pastries!)

MrsShrubs · 28/06/2013 11:23

Thanks for the christening ideas ladies, so hard to think outside the box sometimes - might have a look into books maybe winnie the pooh or something or even a first train set for later on?

I swear the pregnancy glow myth is just the sweat from feeling so warm & uncomfortable all the time!! Had a great no symptom day yesterday and had oodles of energy, but today feeling lethargic again and heartburney, I think we just have to take advantage of the really good days! Completely know what you mean with the heyfever thing too so annoying.

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and haven't felt any movement for a while but hopefully will get to at my MW appointment next week.

LadyMedea · 28/06/2013 11:24

Get thee on the fibre ladies. Take benefiber or if you can't find it fybrogel (not tasteless). ive got a cupboardful as im used to IBS. Little ones are going to be pressing on our insides more and more and we need to keep things moving.

holly sorry I confused you with stairs, brain not working! But yes hemming tape is fab.

Holly1977 · 28/06/2013 11:41

Drinking lots of fluid usually gets things moving eventually. And I've got the lovely Lactulose, though may wait until after my bath tonight! I also find elevating your feet a bit helps, particularly for us short arses. I've actually got a "shitting stool" that lives next to my toilet! My friend made it for me out of old pallets and it really does help.

Great, going to sort all my trousers out this weekend. Can't wait to be comfy at work!

OP posts:
PistachioTruffle · 28/06/2013 15:47

Hurray! After all of my grumbling, I've started to feel MiniTruffle moving Grin It's like a tickle or itch inside my stomach, very bizarre and not at all what I was expecting!

My skin has cleared up and is back to its pre-pregnancy state too Smile

I still have the dreaded constipation too though, and am avoiding orange juice as the last time I drank it the whole lot came straight back up, bleugh.
My bump is definitely much more noticeable too, and as was mentioned upthread is sticking out all over, not just at the bottom where baby is.
I've done some sneaky shopping too!

Roselau · 28/06/2013 16:12

congrats pistachio ! i'm very jealous. how far along are you?

PistachioTruffle · 28/06/2013 16:54

I'm 16+2 today Roselau Grin

I'm now in a stinker of a mood though, as yet ANOTHER person saw fit to ask if the baby was planned. This time an acquaintance I haven't seen in the flesh for probably six years!
Do people not get that this is rude? Seriously?! ARRRRGGHHHH.

Alyssa1978 · 28/06/2013 20:26

pistachio

I went to my hairdresser and a customer who was in at the time, even said "were you not on the pill, was it planned" and then to top it off asked how far along I was which was 15 weeks at the time and said "ooh you're one hell of a size for 15 weeks aren't you" Angry
I think it's because it's my 3rd in such a short time my stomach just popped right out lol.

I guess I can't be surprised, I've been pregnant in 2010, pregnant last half of 2011 and first half of 2012 and pregnant again 2013.
OMG never actually worked it out, I've been pregnant forever Shock
Need to get another hobby lol Grin

abcdemma · 28/06/2013 22:15

Glad I'm not the only one with worse than average hayfever, am a complete mess and not being able to take anything for it sucks :(
But I've found that extra fluid 'keeps things moving', just cordial did the trick for me so am much more comfy and able to feel bambino instead of rumbling/wind etc.
Also gone and got meself a little job Grin It's only 'extra help during the school holidays' so nothing concrete but it's a start and means I can finally start buying bits, so am ridiculously chuffed with myself Grin

MildredH · 28/06/2013 22:34

Congrats on the job abcdemma! Great news Grin

Happy shopping!!

QueenofWhispers · 29/06/2013 08:01

congratulations abcdemma!

Featherbag · 29/06/2013 11:47

Woohoo Emma!!! That's great news!

We got some good news yesterday too - DH currently has a crap job with crap wages in a city that costs us £300pm in fuel for him to get to. Yesterday he was told that a self-employed acquaintance is expanding his business to include a service DH is qualified and experienced in (but not currently getting to use his skills in) and would like to employ him! It's the same annual salary, but in this city so he would cycle to work, he'd be getting to exercise his brain rather than do a very unchallenging role, and there'd be infinite possibilities for role expansion/bonuses/pay increases. Only 2 downsides - 1) it's not as secure as his present job, but we reckoned it'll be unlikely to fail in the first 6 months, at which point he could take income protection insurance and 2) he's yet to speak to his prospective new boss about paternity leave/leave if this baby is also prem. If this one arrives at the same gestation as DS (and I hope it won't but have to be prepared) or earlier, he'd have literally JUST started the new job. I don't want to put a dampener on this opportunity for him, but under no circumstances am I risking going through the whole NICU experience again alone! And I don't know where he'd stand with paternity leave in a new job, although I hope he'd have all of this discussed and agreed before quitting his present job.

Featherbag · 29/06/2013 12:09

Anyone else's skin being just plain weird? My forehead's gone all bumpy! Not spots, but loads of tiny hard lumps under the skin, worse closer to the hairline. Looks odd to say the least!

NomDeClavier · 29/06/2013 12:55

I have crap skin and it usually quite good :(

For those not feeling movement yet it's annoying but don't worry - I didn't have anything with DS until 24odd weeks, despite seeing him pummelling me from the inside on a scan - and it was a combination of anterior placenta and my previously killer abs, now defunct.

alyssa I salute you. I only just recovered from being pregnant 2010/2011!

Congrats on the job emma

So I had a horrible meeting Thursday with the director of the school I teach PT at, where I told her I was pregnant and she acted like it was the worst news in the world. I know it's no convenient but 2 years only have 10 weeks worth of teaching and I'd only be missing about 4 sessions before coming back from ML (for which I have to find my own replacement....). Short ML doesn't bother me - I worked to 40weeks last time and had 4 months, I'll hopefully have MIL for the last month, my parents over Christmas and then it's only 1 afternoon every 2 weeks so hoping there will be space for the baby in nursery those afternoons.

PistachioTruffle · 29/06/2013 14:31

Congratulations to abcdemma and to feather's DH Grin Excellent news all round!

Nom, I'm really sorry you had a bad meeting Sad. I know it must be annoying for employers to sort out maternity cover and stuff, but really, it's not your problem! I read loads of stuff on here about people's bosses being really huffy about them being pregnant, making them feel guilty about mat leave and acting as if they've done it to especially inconvenience the employer, but you can't be expected time your family planning around your job! I hope it all gets sorted out.

abcdemma · 29/06/2013 17:48

Cheers ladies and congrats feather :)
It irks me when people say their bosses get arsey about ML, as if we aren't worried enough about telling them and they make it ten times worse by reacting like that. At least the first hurdle's over and done with I guess...
