Starting yet another thread as us chatterboxes have filled up 2 already!

Jucy, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs, wish there was something more I could say. Flowers

Frouby, if you're feeling crap just fuck the housework off, I do! It'll keep.

I'm scared and excited in equal measures about the scan on Friday. Looking forward to seeing bean and being able to get on with things. But obviously scared of getting bad news like Jucy... 2 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes to go!

My friend has offered to be a birthing partner too. I may well take her up on it, I suspect she'll be more help than OH. And as I'm planning on having a home water birth and OH has already invited his bloody mum (!) think it'll be good to have a friend there. I'm not private at all, have zero issues with people seeing me naked (as my neighbours will tell you) and she's seen me throw up enough times from our party days (though never shit myself to be fair) that I'm not too fussed about that.

QueenofWhispers · 19/06/2013 12:17

we call her beanie. I was really worried about Kimye using one of our names for their baby as our preferred name starts with a C. Our name is quite tame though...

We are thoroughly scared that our names will be taken by the deluge of children being born within our family this year.

We went to a family wedding on Monday and literally everyone is pregnant. I honestly hate being from an Asian family sometimes because pregnancy is often kept a 'secret' until you can't hide it; especially from family members you particularly don't like...and not many people in this family (in-laws) are keen on me. I really do try with them but a few of them just act like they eat old crusty ass blisters (piles) all day long and somehow it makes them better. I really hope that in the next few weeks they can see the assholes they are and calm it down enough for me to not accidentally slip up and say how I feel about them infront of DS.

I would hate for DS to repeat that back at the next family function.

Holly1977 · 19/06/2013 12:19

Thanks Frouby, I'm sure you're right. I am feeling reasonably calm, glad I've got pg yoga tonight which is very relaxing and calming.

It is very easy to worry about every little sensation, niggle and pain. I hurt my hip yesterday turning round too quickly in a shop, wtf?! And OH wonders why I worry more than him?!!

I'm not looking at prams or anything at all yet. Am hoping the big stuff like that will be given as hand me downs or gifts. But I think a pram with a detachable car seat is probably the way to go.

ha ha Frouby, that's so funny. Not for you I know but your posts do make me laugh. Nothing worse than an ingrowing hair on your lady garden that you can't sort out. I'm definitely having to shave more often, least I would be if I gave a shit! Noticed how hairy my pits were in the shop yesterday so had a quick sesh this morning.

We were all convinced we're having a boy too but I'm not so sure now. We'll find out in a few weeks I guess. Some people have freaked out when we said we might find out the gender. Err, fuck off, really not your choice is it?!

OP posts:
MrsShrubs · 19/06/2013 13:55

I started having a look into prams online and got slightly overwhelmed with the sheer amount of them and all doing completely different things Confused I've been speaking with a couple of friends and 2 bought quinny's and have said that they are quite wide and getting them through doors isn't the greatest task in the world. Another recommended the iCandy range and another the babystyle oyster and two girls at work really recommend the bugaboo prams so I think it's a case of putting a day aside and pushing as many around the shops as possible! I have been told mothercare will price match amazon (I'm guessing not second hand but brand new) in store and kiddicare pricematches too so is worth having a shop around price wise and seeing what they might do cost wise.

Holly my OH works at a hospital and is able to read scans so we will be finding out - if he knew and I didn't it would drive me mad - but my Dad is adament he doesn't want to know the gender even though we will so I'm not sure how that will work when my mum & the in laws want to know!

wickedwitchNE · 19/06/2013 14:02

Hi everyone! Finally brave enough to join in, this is my first baby and official EDD is 16th Dec (2nd scan showed it to be 13th but they don't change it apparently).
Love being in 2nd trimester, sick of feeling generally rubbish and a bit pathetic for not blooming yet! Off to catch up on the start of this thread, might give the first two a miss...!

NomDeClavier · 19/06/2013 14:31

Hello wicked!

Prams: oh I love prams. We have a baby jogger city mini with a hard carrycot and maxi cosi pebble that clips on instead of the carrycot. It's fab and I love it BUT I also have a beast of a Silver Cross carriage pram I inherited and am dying to use. DS was born overseas so lightweight and practical were the buzzwords. You can't fly easily with a lot of the Bugaboos unless you get a travel bag and the fold is a bit of a beast but otherwise they're very good prams. Quinny prams are massive! I'll probably end up using a sling 90% of the time anyway.... Tbh unless you have a pita school run that means you're going to be in the car, out for 10 and in the car I wouldn't be too fussed about the detachable car seat. It's not good for babies to spend a lot of time in there and they're pretty easy to transfer over from pram to seat when you get used to it (so about 2 weeks old!) without waking. So if I were buying now I'd get the bjcm with soft carrycot and sod the car seat.

For settling inconsolable babies I swear by boob. Even I'd you don't think they're hungry they probably are for the first few weeks!

Had bloods done this morning for Downs and various other things. 8 little tubes. 8!!! It's a wonder they didn't just suck me dry and finish the job.

Need to call my GP to get a ridiculous form signed and find a MW now. Plus actually work, and move house, all with 2yo underfoot. Argh!

froubylou · 19/06/2013 15:47

Dont envy you Nom. I really, really want to move. But really, really can't be arsed lol. In fact I can't be arsed to do much at the minute.

I'm normally a busy bee but at the min I cant be bothered with housework, paperwork, cooking and did I mention housework lol. OH praying that the nesting will kick in PDQ I think.

Am ultra knackered today. Done school run this morning, been to tescos for a little shop, put shopping away, had some coco pops, had a banana, went to ponies and took one for a walk, done school run again including going long way around for the dog and could now sleep for a week. My hips ache, my back aches and my feet ache. Normally I could have done all that, plus worked for a couple of hours, done some housework and perhaps done an hour in garden as well.

DD has to be back at school for a concert for 6.45pm and then collected at 8pm. Think I'll go in the car, can't face anymore walking today.

Oh, and my bump is called Jesus due to the fact that my original EDD was 24/12. DP hates it lol.

NomDeClavier · 19/06/2013 16:50

You don't want to move, frouby. The idea of moving is nice but the reality is a PITA. Unfortunately we have no choice as we're in military owned housing and despite us saying that we planned a baby this posting they gave us a quarter that was suitable for us when we arrived. Upshot we are now moving....to somewhere with less space overall! Our bedroom is tiny and a weird shape and we can't actually fit our wardrobe and bed in without cutting off half the room so I'm not sure what we're actually going to do!!!!

mumoftwoboysS · 19/06/2013 17:35

Take care fluffy I hope it goes as well as can be expected and wishing you a happy healthy future pregnancy x

holly hope it settles down - I had exactly the same a few weeks ago so know how it feels. My mw wasn't that helpful and I couldn't get a scan for reassurance but I did read that if its not a lot of blood like a period then it's probably fine. Interesting you mentioned your cervix- I've had cervical erosion in the past-wonder if we just have a higher Chance of them being irritated and hence the blood?

Just tried on trousers for my hols and they don't fit! My bump has just popped out the last few days- another trip to H&M to look for some lightweight/linen trousers!...

Featherbag · 19/06/2013 17:53

I moved house while pregnant with DS, and even though I had A LOT of family support it was a pita!

I've decided I'm going to pour out the whole sorry tale to my MW next week and see what she suggests, she's meant to be my first point of contact and my advocate after all. Had my GTT this morning, and they said I should hear this afternoon if the results were abnormal - and I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING!!! I'm chuffed, taking it that the results were normal and keeping my fingers crossed that GD won't raise it's ugly head again. Just in case though, I've had a piece of each of the 3 types of cake on offer on the tea trolley today, in case it was the last I got til after DC2 is born :)

inkymomma · 19/06/2013 18:13

We are also moving to a house (currently in a flat) in about 3 months. So ill be nearly 7 months pregnant. Luckily all our family have said they will help. Also going to look into hiring a cleaner to gut our flat for us when we move. I doubt ill be able to scrub the floors and bleach everything within an inch of its life. Hopefully hiring one won't cost too much. I know its going to be a PITA but at least we won't be in a cold flat again over winter

violetbean · 19/06/2013 18:18

Argh just wrote a long post and my phone crashed and lost it. Second time lucky...?

Feather, great news re the results! Thanks

I'm getting so annoyed with the extra body hair, am considering getting one of those expensive evil-looking epilator things (for my legs mainly). Anyone have experience with them - are they excessively painful / slow to use? Any advice?

Wicked, we have the same edd, yay! Welcome to the thread. Smile

I'm so tired at the mo, am waiting for the fabled second trimester energy to kick in... Afternoon naps have become a necessity but I generally feel gross afterwards. Meh!

AuroraOrtiz · 19/06/2013 21:31

Violet - I've never used an epilator but someone at work did and she said it was very painful - put me off trying! I am not noticing extra hairs - although tbh I am quite hairy anyway! But I am getting spots, and I don't normally get them, on my face and on my chest!

I just got my results from the combined nuchal, blood test thing, and it said low risk, no further tests needed, but the odds it gave are 1 in 300. That sounds quite high? Or is that similar to what others got? I have a memory like a sieve and can't remember what you all said!

LadyMedea · 19/06/2013 22:00

violet I've used an epilator on and off for years. The real pain (literally) is starting out. I'd recommend paying for a professional leg wax and the using the epilator once a week to maintain - then you aren't using it on too many hairs at once and you stay pretty hair free all the time. Otherwise you'll need an ice pack to numb the area the first time. I'm imagining OH doing it for me as the bump gets bigger!

abc on the antihistamines and ladies in general don't be afraid to see your doctor for stuff, they are the only ones who can prescribe or often refer. BTW some oral antihistamines are prescribed in pregnancy, the old school drowsy ones, but mainly it's just the local acting stuff that they stick to.

lisbsa those letters are crap aren't they. I'm assuming the ones I've had are for a consultant for my blood pressure but who knows. I also got invited for a scan the week before, which as its the right time for 20 weeks I'm assuming is just the normal one.... But as it came before I had my 12 week scann again who knows for sure!

LadyMedea · 19/06/2013 22:04

aurora I think the high/low cut off is normally around 1/150. How old are you? The age based stats are here. Then you can see how you compare on age alone. In any case remember that's 299 chances out of 300 that everything is fine.

2Labradors · 19/06/2013 22:15

lisbsa I got a letter for my consultant appointment through, the date being the day after my 20 week scan. I thought it was routine (as it was routine when had my other 2 children) but apparently, due to cut backs, it's not routine. I hadn't even realised until my MW questioned it at my appointment on Friday, she thinks its because I had a big bleed after having my DD. Wont actually find out until the appointment. Really wish they would clearly state the reason.

NomDeClavier · 19/06/2013 22:39

Hurray for good results! Or rather no results.

I have an epilatod and I've not been using it much lately. If you use it regularly then it's fine, or in conjunction with another hair removal method, but if you try to do it on longish hair then oweweewwwww.

Someone tell DH he can't name pud Serenity if it's a girl? We've been looking at names again and in the top 5 middle names for girls we find Serenity, Prudence and Temperance. It's only a matter of time before he mentions how nice a name Claudia Jean would be. Or Cordelia. Oh no, wait. We already have that on the list of first names... I already have a hard enough time explaining that DS wasn't named after a character in CSI without having to actually admit a DD really was named for geeky reasons.

QueenofWhispers · 19/06/2013 23:25

I had to use an epilator today--it was agonising to the point of me thinking labour is most likely easier to deal with.

QueenofWhispers · 19/06/2013 23:28

I love Cordelia.

Our names are:
Olivia Hero
Camilla Eleanor
Eleanor Camilla*

Helena Scarlet
Amelia

AuroraOrtiz · 20/06/2013 01:44

Thanks Lady, that's really useful. I'm 35 - will have just turned 36 by time bump is born. I'm a bit higher than the 35 year old stats, but I guess should be glad am still classed as low risk.

froubylou · 20/06/2013 07:01

Morning all

Aurora, you are low risk hun, thats all you need to know. I'm 35 too and haven't even had the screening done as IMO even a 1 in 2 chance is still a 50% chance of everything being fine and I wouldn't have amnio done so would just drive myself mad thinking 'what if?'.

Nom we used to have a pony called Serenity. No one could be bothered to stand at top of field and shout Serenity so she ended up being called Moo as she was a bit of a cow lol. Good enough reason for me not to call a baby that.

I like:

Toby
Sebastion (but OH hates that lol)
Jacob (OHs Fave)

Emmeline
Amelia
Evelyn

I moved house last time I was PG, 2 weeks before I had DD lol. But to be fair it was from a fully furnished apartment to a fully furnished house so not a great deal to shift. Unlike if we ever move again. I really do need to sort some shit out though. Otherwise this poor baby is going to end up living in a drawer with all its stuff.

OH and DD are terrible hoarders. OH has more clothes than me and won't part with anything. His token clearing out his side of wardrobe last week was to make 2 piles. Stuff that needed re-ironing as they had been shoved in because he has so much stuff, and stuff he didn't want to throw out but didn't fit him but 'Look love, this shirt/t-shirt/hoodie will fit you and the bump, save you buying maternity stuff'.

Told him to feck off lol. Apart from the hoodies which I hung up.

Anyone else been too hot the last couple of days? Its tipped rain and thunderstorms next few days so am hoping it freshens up a bit.

Featherbag · 20/06/2013 08:14

I've woken up in a scandalously good mood for some reason! Maybe it was being woken by DS standing in his cot shouting mam-mam! Usually he just shouts hi! Or howay! DM taught him that one cos I am classy and never say slangy things like that honest Back/hip really painful today after work yesterday, but determined to go for a nice long walk and get some fresh air. Will walk to GP to get new prescription for crap hay fever remedies after DS's nap.

How's everyone else feeling today? Officially 16/40 today! :)

Featherbag · 20/06/2013 08:19

Frouby I don't want to start even considering names, but I can't wait to once we know what we're having! I know it's daft but can't help thinking if I come up with the perfect girl's name, it'll be a boy! I'd love a girl as we're definitely having no more after this one, but 2 boys would be ace too - house full of mischief and slugs! It's odd, by this stage with DS I KNEW he was a boy - no doubt at all, although we didn't find out. If the MW had told me I'd had a girl I wouldn't have believed her. No vibes at all this time though!

Roselau · 20/06/2013 08:39

wow a lot to catch-up on.
had to come in early to work for a meeting that just got cancelled, so was able to catch-up on everything.

I'm also still very tired. I really envy all of you that can take a nap in the afternoon. I catch myself looking under my desk and thinking 'the rug looks sooooo comfortable'. But I have a busy job with lots of meetings and need to not lose face in front of the senior boys club. Now that I'm pregnant I feel like I need to prove myself even more so that they don't think I've become soft and can walk all over me. Welcome to corporate London... anyone else having to deal with this?

aurora you are low risk - I think the cut off is indeed 1/150. Think about all the less favourable odds that your little bean has already beaten. it will be just fine :)

well I have to say that the dress I'm wearing feels really tight, but more in the chest than anything. it feels like not just my boobs have grown, but my whole torso / rib cage has expanded. Am I imagining this? I'm still only +1lb on the scale, but can definitely see and feel a bump under the blubber. I will need to figure out what to do from a clothing perspective because I'm not big enough for maternity clothes. Thanks for the suggestion on H&M. I think I will pay them a little visit next week.

ccsays · 20/06/2013 08:58

Morning all, have been away for a few days and lots to catch up on!

We ended up paying through the nose for a NT scan because the baby was on its head at our NHS one and they couldn't get the measurements. They don't offer a rescan apparently and the said we would get a blood test for it at sixteen weeks which seemed miles away and to be honest I wouldn't want to be at possible baby kicking stages and then be faced with horrible decisions if the results weren't good.

Anyways so went to a private scan with try Mum, got LOADS of scanning time, saw baby jumping about and it even did a wee backflip! Got lots of photos for the proud grannies too, NHS would only give me one. The nuchal measurement was 1.3 and the combined results came back today with a risk of 1 in 5500, so looking good so far!

MrsShrubs · 20/06/2013 09:42

Has anyone started going off things or smells? This morning I put on a perfume that I've probably only worn twice since finding out we're pregnant, within 30 seconds I was spinning from the smell and heaving so straight back in the shower to scrub it off! Don't think I'll be wearing it again for a while!

So confused with the combined results, I thought they only went to 1 in 2500 (which I am) or are those just the examples the NHS give?
