Starting yet another thread as us chatterboxes have filled up 2 already!

Jucy, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs, wish there was something more I could say. Flowers

Frouby, if you're feeling crap just fuck the housework off, I do! It'll keep.

I'm scared and excited in equal measures about the scan on Friday. Looking forward to seeing bean and being able to get on with things. But obviously scared of getting bad news like Jucy... 2 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes to go!

My friend has offered to be a birthing partner too. I may well take her up on it, I suspect she'll be more help than OH. And as I'm planning on having a home water birth and OH has already invited his bloody mum (!) think it'll be good to have a friend there. I'm not private at all, have zero issues with people seeing me naked (as my neighbours will tell you) and she's seen me throw up enough times from our party days (though never shit myself to be fair) that I'm not too fussed about that.

OP posts:

lisb that's the same EDD as me!
Well the scan went well, (much to my relief!) there's only 1 in there and he/she seems to be doing fine! I asked the sonographer what the nuchal measurement was and she said its 2.4 which is fine and within the normal range. I've since looked it up as it seemed high, and it seems its at the higher end and some hospitals even have the cut off for normal at 2.0! So of course I'm worried now... I know that it doesn't mean much until they get the blood results to give an overall risk factor but I just wish it wasn't a niggling worry now. I'm 36 so wondering if that'll put the risk up too..

lisbapalea · 17/06/2013 14:19

mumoftwo ah congrats on your scan too - good to have a due date buddy (and we're the same age too!). I was also freaking out that there would be more than one in there (we have twins in the family) so it was a relief to see just one little person bobbing about!

I just had the dating scan and no nuchal screening so don't have any info to compare regarding nuchal measurements but I am sure that if the hospital said it was withim normal range you will be fine. I know it is impossible not to worry over stuff though; our little one had its legs crossed underneath it so we didn't get a full view of its legs - the songrapher was fine with that and said she could see two knees etc so it was nothing to worry about, but I keep worrying that maybe its legs aren't quite right because we couldn't see them. They don't really warn us that pregnancy is 9 months of worrying about the unknown do they?

Try to focus on the hospital's reassurance though; I am sure they wouldn't have told you it was normal if they weren't comfortable with it.

merr · 17/06/2013 14:48

Congrats Mumoftwo, lisa and queenow! (and anyone else thats had good news i've missed).

Music - I had a bout of bleeding early in my last pg (oh called an ambulance and we mass panicked) but all was fine, they said it just happens sometimes.

Regarding my scan, baby was too small to measure by 2mm, so have to back in two weeks for another, so hoping my dates are just out and theres not a growth problem.

kyz1981 · 17/06/2013 14:51

Queen Congrats thats lovely news.

Music Thinking of you and hope that the bleeding has stopped.

I had a consultant appointment today and had to have my cervix measured again, but it means I got to have a sneak peak at baby!
I have 4 weeks and 4 days until my 20 week scan.. not that I'm counting. We have decided not to find out what we are having.

Went to try and find some maternity jeans today and H&M and Mothercare had none in my size, really wanted to try some on as the ones I have ordered online all went back, really fed up now of having nothing that properly fits.

MrsShrubs · 17/06/2013 15:20

kyz have you tried Next at all? I had a quick nose the other day and they seemed to have quite a few different styles/colours. Hadn't even thought of looking in H&M though so will be keeping an eye out in there from now on!

Merr fingers crossed all is fine and it just means you get to have another look at little one.

kyz1981 · 17/06/2013 15:48

MrsShrubs My local Next does not stock maternity :( I ordered some from Next online but they did not fit well so returned them, but I may take a trip out to one of the big retail park ones - I'm sure there is one somewhere near me.

mumoftwoboysS · 17/06/2013 17:33

lisb it's ridiculous how much we worry but understandable too! It's like I'm looking for something that could be wrong! I did read that nuchal measurements increase week by week so could explain why it's high as I'm towards the top end (13+1) for measuring it. I think they take dates into account with the measurements so it evens out. I guess once my combined results are back i'll be happier - tho we'll be on holiday and now I'm worrying if they'll be able to get hold of me if they need to!!

And I just burst into tears earlier for nothing at all really- hormones!!!!

mumoftwoboysS · 17/06/2013 17:42

Meant to say great news Queen! Must be such a relief to know all is fine and bonus finding out the sex! I (secretly) would love a girl but of course tell everyone I don't mind either way!
alyssa yeah I'm used to our all boys household I just sometimes could do with a calmer influence and was thinking a girl could be calmer! My boys are so loud and boisterous!! It's exhausting sometimes but I think it's amplified ATM with me feeling tired and emotional!!

2Labradors · 17/06/2013 17:58

Congratulations on the lovely 12 week scans.

Queen how exciting that you found out the sex. We were going to pay for a private sexing scan but 20 week scan is 3 weeks today so we're going to wait now.

mumof I think we're wired to worry all the time. My 12 week scan was just a dating one but little one didn't move around much. The sonographer poked my tum a bit and we got a little wave but that was it. She said its normal for them to have active times and quiet times but it hasn't stopped me worrying about it.

I had a bit of a drama queen moment today. My BP was raised at Friday's midwife appointment and I've been worrying about it. Got to work today, someone was off and I end up doing part of their work as well as a huge pile of my own and was feeling mega stressed. Came over all funny, shaky, sweaty & dizzy so went to find the midwife (I work in a GPs) and just burst out crying on her. She's not 'my' midwife and now I think they may have me down as slightly mad! My BP was raised again when she checked. She's booked me in for me to see my own midwife again next week. I'm usually not a cryer, but I can't help it, when things get tough I cry at the moment.

I have all these great plans about working until 37 weeks, that's another 20 weeks to go aargh

PistachioTruffle · 17/06/2013 18:24

2Labs, I hope you're feeling better now! I had a dizzy spell this morning on the bus, I felt really dreadful until I self medicated with ribena!

Congratulations on all the good scan news Grin

I think I'm going to have to start getting some longer and maternity tops. I wore maternity jeggings and a regular to today and kept getting drafts on my tummy!

lisbapalea · 17/06/2013 18:37

I just got back from the GPs and am now on antibiotics which is adding to my list of pregnancy worries!!

Have had a really sore finger (I think it is from a hangnail that went wrong) since last Thursday and it's been really swollen and hot, with a red line seemingly travelling down the finger. I called 111 on Saturday and they told me to go to A&E which I thought sounded a bit over the top, so I continued to ignore it.

Thought it was getting better but since lunchtime it's totally swelled up and is throbbing like mad. Managed to get emergency GP appointment and she has given me some antibiotics that she said are ok for pregnancy but it still freaks me out.

Alyssa1978 · 17/06/2013 19:07

mum

I'm 35 and my risk was in in near 40 thousand so try not to worry, your household sounds just like mine, loud loud boys Smile.
Secretly I would love a girl but I don't honk it's meant to be lol.

Just been to see my consultant today with ds1 being small and I have to be scanned at weeks 28, 32 and 36 also to check growth. X

Alyssa1978 · 17/06/2013 19:08

1 in nearly 40 thousand i meant to say

Alyssa1978 · 17/06/2013 19:09

think its meant to be..... Can't type tidy Grin

Alyssa1978 · 17/06/2013 19:09

today not tidy, oh my gosh I'm just gonna shut up Blush

mumoftwoboysS · 17/06/2013 22:24

lol Alyssa! Will you be finding out the sex then? With all those scans its going to be hard not to be tempted!....

ouch Lisb I remember reading somewhere if you ever get a red line going up a finger or toe from an infection its a bad sign (means the infection is starting to travel) so its a good job you got it looked at. Hope its better soon.

Pistachio I need more long tops too- Just feel like the only comfy clothes are leggings and they need long tops (I'm not comfortable showing my bum in leggings!) so I may have to get a few more- bought a lovely stripy one in NL -a bargain too.

2labs so true- mine didn't move much either- a bit at the beginning- I guess they could be sleeping hence being more still! I'm trying not to worry about it all tho won't be happy till test results come back ok

Futterby · 18/06/2013 00:22

Is anyone else exceptionally hairy? I feel like Chewbacca.

MrsShrubs · 18/06/2013 08:12

Not hairy but I've noticed my hairs stopped getting greasy or needing dry shampoo on in between days, just washed my hair for the first time since Saturday morning and normally I would have to wash it every other day. Not a bad pregnancy side effect to have!

MildredH · 18/06/2013 08:40

Hairy? Yes! Usually shave my legs so infrequently that I can't find where I've left the razor from last time but now it's twice weekly ( well, would be if I wasn't just ignoring them). On the upside my head hair is looking nice and my skin seems better- need less make up to make my face look awake in the morning!

QueenofWhispers · 18/06/2013 08:58

speaking of good skin and hair.

hair is fine---it's the skin! I've never had to battle any acne. I may have had 10 zits from the start of my life until this pregnancy; but now you could play connect the dots on my face. it's horrible.

MrsShrubs · 18/06/2013 09:14

Queen put sudacrem on your face, do it in the evening or put a layer on before you go to sleep and you should hopefully see an improvement. That always works for me when my skin gets bad.

Featherbag · 18/06/2013 09:39

Argh, someone PLEASE talk me out of walking out of this hospital and booking in elsewhere, I'm so close to doing it but this hospital is the one I work in and it's near where I live, I have no access to a car during the day and it would be inconvenient to go somewhere else!

Sorry if this is long - had an appointment to see obstetrician this morning to discuss previous pregnancy/birth and plan for this one. Arrived on time - no appointment booked. I've got a letter confirming the appointment so they 'kindly' agree to fit me in. Not with the consultant I was meant to be seeing, but not the one I've refused to see, so I agree. Kept waiting half an hour, no big deal. Consultant breezes in, announces he doesn't see why I need to see him and he will 'bounce me back' to Evil Consultant (EC from now on). Oh no you won't, say I. He then answers his mobile and has a long chat about the predicted cost of having his car headlights repaired. Doesn't apologise. Says I'll have to see EC's clinic mate, but he'll recommend I'm given steroids at 30 and 32 weeks in case of another prem labour. Then leaves.

I think I need to ask my midwife for referral to someone to help me deal with my emotions regarding DS's birth, as I'm now sitting sobbing again. I just want someone to take the time to talk to me and allay some of my fears, and it's becoming clear that I can't rely on doctors to do this, although it's doctors who will deliver my baby, seemingly with no input from me if it can be avoided.

QueenofWhispers · 18/06/2013 09:43

but won't it make my face a bit oily? I'll give it a go. x

QueenofWhispers · 18/06/2013 09:45

featherbag

I'm sorry! would PALS be able to help?
MrsShrubs · 18/06/2013 11:11

Queen not at all, I've been using it for 10 years and it's never made my skin oily. If you look on the tub/tube of sudacrem it actually says it is for acne & spot related problems. You can either put a dot on each one or put a layer over the area.

featherbag that's awful especially when they are the ones who have made the mistake with the booking. Can you complain and ask for another appointment this week since they've messed up so you can have a proper sit down and chat?
