Loving all the pics on fb! Red needs to join us now!
Hope you all have a good day. About to go to mw and be measured!

Erm excuse my ignorance (it's my first after all and have no idea what I'm doing!) - what's tongue tie?

Hi kitty! How are you getting on?

LittleMissSnowShine · 18/06/2013 11:17

Hi everyone!

lol / mrsbri - In terms of things 'dropping' if you don't feel the breathless, slowly suffocating feeling when you have the baby sitting on your diaphragm, that counts as dropping, even if your bump still looks pretty high. Should happen as early as week 32 / 33 and closer you get to birth, more pressure round pelvis / waddling Grin In hospital I went to with DS they gave everyone a sweep at around 39+6 just to get you started lol It worked for me but it started off two days of fairly horrendous spurious, back to back labour Confused But I guess it was better than going overdue or needing to be induced.

kiwi - big big congrats on your lovely new arrival! Hope all is going well for you x

Alex - Well they do say 2nd births are easier! (FINGERS CROSSED!) A tongue tie is a fairly simple condition to fix but can cause problems for latching on and if it isn't fixed it would cause issues with chewing and speech later on: www.nhs.uk/conditions/tongue-tie/Pages/Introduction.aspx

kitty - good to hear from you, i'm sure you're wrecked!!

Ads - No news is good news! I had loads of bleeding at start of this pg, not sure if that was cos I opted for ERPC after mmc but that was back on 1st Aug and I didn't get my BFP til start of December so I thought enough time would have passed. You def want the early weeks to be nice and uneventful!

when - hope your friend is ok

MrsBri · 18/06/2013 11:32

Littlemiss, I've never had that because baby hasn't been in that type of position. I was discussing it with the midwife yesterday and she explained that the way Baby B has been and is positioned means I've not experienced it the way a lot of ladies do.

Baby wasn't even head down until 30 weeks, then only starting engaging 2 weeks ago!

But I'm tall and he's had lots of room to do what he likes :-)

weechops · 18/06/2013 13:04

Kiwi congratulations! What a fab name too :). My ds has severe tongue tie and its never been a problem, so I wouldn't worry about that.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 18/06/2013 16:48

Congrats kiwi. I love the name, glad he is feeding ok

Update on my friend is good news. She has been sent home (still pregnant) and has been put on steroids just in case he shows up early, sounds like she's getting really good care.

RedRobin1 · 18/06/2013 20:51

when that's good to hear! I am sure the docs have already told her but tell her to put her feet up (quite literally) to delay it by a few more weeks!

kiwi congratulations fab news :) love the name - how are you and baby barnaby doing?

MrsBri · 18/06/2013 20:51

That's great re your friend, When. Let's hope baby stays put for at least another few weeks :-)

Alexandra6 · 19/06/2013 07:37

when is it your friend's cervix or am I just presuming that as I'm obsessed with cervixes!? If so, bed rest might help keep it in (recommended more in the US but seems logical?) Good she's had steroids, that helps the baby get ready.

mrsb I'm looking forward to news on baby b!

Had my cervix scan yesterday and it went really well! The consultant said he thought it looked fine on the scan and not opening/dilating at all, and even said the length looks ok! Am going to go on my hols, try and relax and have my 20 week scan the day after I get back. Am thinking of cancelling my dildocam scan for Friday as I have this booked as a second opinion but it's only three days apart and as I had the scan at EPU on Friday, that's three scans in a week so a lot of scans for poor baby! If I cancel, it means I need to trust the guy's opinion yesterday and it will be three weeks between scans.

Agree on the name Barnaby - love it! We're thinking of names at the moment, trying not to get my heart set on anything as a best friend is having a baby while I'm on hols so I want to make sure she doesn't choose one of our faves Smile we have a boys and girls name so far.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 19/06/2013 09:42

alex that's great news about your cervix, have a fabulous holiday

My friends cervix is ok, the problem was the babies heart rate kept dropping. Hopefully he will be fine now.

kittykatsforever · 19/06/2013 09:45

Alex do you feel like he did a thorough check and was confident? I think over something so important they would air on the side of caution which to me says he would have been happy with what he saw and the fact that all the signs looked good, if it gives you more peace of mind you could still go on Friday aswell, I can't really imagine its going to do the baby any harm but as you said you've had 2 scans recently that have showed no problems so I think if it were me I'd try to just take it that it is ok go on Holliday and look forward to your 20wk scan when you return, I think a second opinion is only really necessary if he wasn't sure about something or it was inconclusive but that's just me, at the end of the day uf it helps you that's all that matters

LittleMissSnowShine · 20/06/2013 15:08

Agree with kitty - it is v nervewracking in early stages of pg but too many scans really only serve to freak you out. A good friend of mine is an obstetrician and she said loads of her colleagues (and the midwives!) when they were pg and had a break in work would run off and give themselves sneaky scans on the sly but all it really did was make them worry more about stuff that ladies who'd only had the usual 2 scans weren't even thinking about. So def go on your holiday and enjoy, just look forward to your 20 week scan when there'll be lots to see!!

RedRobin1 · 20/06/2013 16:58

littlemiss that made me chuckle so much I snorted some orange juice hehehe I can just picture a bunch of midwives sneaking off work and scanning themselves with ultrasound gear Wink

I think these days hormones amuse me too easily...

Alexandra6 · 20/06/2013 18:26

Thank god I'm not a midwife! Grin

Thanks kitty good advice, I emailed the consultant this morning saying does he think we can leave it and wait until 20 weeks and he hasn't emailed me back. I was busy at work so didn't think about until now which means I might need to cancel last minute now which I hate doing! Will see how I feel in the morning.

It's going to be soooo good being off work for two weeks!!

How's your friend doing when?

I know it's annoying when people keep asking...but...any news on baby B?!

Alexandra6 · 20/06/2013 18:27

Oh and I don't find the scans stressful at all, I feel amazing afterwards as I know my cervix isn't opening! Just don't want to keep blasting the poor baby with ultrasound every five mins!

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 19:01

Hi Alex!

No news. Due date only has a few hours left, so not much / any chance now! But...my real due date by conception, not scan, is Sunday, so technically I'm not really late yet!
clutches at straws

Alexandra6 · 20/06/2013 19:13

You will be giving birth while I'm sunning myself in Spain (sorry!!), will think of you and make sure you stick around so I can congratulate you when I get back Grin

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 19:16

Have a lovely holiday :-)

I'll still be here, don't worry!

BelissimaLol · 20/06/2013 20:19

I came here to check on you nic! You'd been quiet so I was hoping you were in hospital!!
The only exciting news here is that I now have a wardrobe!!!!! Just put away all her clothes and dresses hand me downs and it all looks lovely! Next step is pack hospital bag. What are you ladies doing about this? Anyone thought about it!?
Nic what's in yours?
I'm clearly nesting. Decided to clean branch today and went round telling my staff off for being messy. My house is also almost back to normal after 4 months of decorating!

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 20:35

I have 2 bags, 1 for during labour / straight after and 1 for the overnight stay.

Labour bag

Big nightshirt for giving birth in
Old socks in case I get cold feet
Lots of snacks and drinks
Battery chargers for phones as we can't plug them in
Bath bag
Towel
Nursing bra
Pair of big pants
Nursing nightie
Flip flops for shower
Bag of absorbent items for me
Bag with baby's first outfit / nappies / wipes / blanket
TENS machine
Change of top / underwear / toothbrush for DH

After bag

Further nursing nightie
Nursing bra
Lots of big pants
Remainder small pack nappies
Wipes
Remainder pack mat pads
Breast pads
Light dressing gown
Towel
Clothing for baby
Clothes for me to go home in
Further baby blanket

I think that's it!

BelissimaLol · 20/06/2013 21:28

Thanks for that list! Can't decide if I should do the same or a bag for me and one for baby. Have you hired tens machine? From what you have heard or read is it worth it? What about birthing ball? Have you bought it?
All these questions in my head are driving me insane. Who thought having a baby could be so bloody complicated? Confused

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 21:40

If you can only have one bag at a time the bags for you and baby won't necessarily work as you'll need both at the same time! The reason I did what I did was because of the bloody drinks and snacks! They take up so much bloody room!

And yes, my TENS is hired. It's cost 19 quid for 7 weeks.

And my ball is sitting staring at me from across the lounge. It's a Reebok gym ball I've had for years :-)

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 21:40

And from what I've heard the TENS is well worth it, yes.

RedRobin1 · 21/06/2013 09:46

Good luck nic hope baby makes a move before Sunday! When do you have to go in for a sweep?

MrsBri · 21/06/2013 09:55

Hi Red!

Sweep is on Tuesday, then again on Friday if that one doesn't work.

How are you feeling today?

Oh, forgot to put flannels and lip balm on my labour bag list, Lol!
