Thought I may as well start this given I'll be around for another (hopefully) 14ish weeks :) Hope I've not crossed posts with anyone!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BelissimaLol · 30/07/2013 14:30

Well if I ever have another one I don't think I can ask for it any sooner!!!! I literally asked for it at triage. I didn't even try gas and air in case I liked it and got convinced into going with it lolGrin
And def the tens machine. I think I only paid 21 quid to hire it online. Better than everything else I packed in my bag (although it never even gotin the bag! It went on me!)
So little miss! I had a sweep on thu and was not they never work first time.... You work out the rest! Good luck.
Those flutters are amazing!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 30/07/2013 19:24

red very excited about your flutters.

lol thanks for sharing, you did really well pushing. My worst fear was being sent home again after arriving in the hospital. I was like you and begged for an epidural really quickly, they were too busy to give me one Sad

Kittenkatzen · 30/07/2013 19:45

Lovely birth story lol Smile, and red woohoo for feeling flutters!

Ted your definatly right there, when I got to the hospital with dd2 I was allready 4cm dialated and asked for it straight away even though the mw tried everything to convince me otherwise, I wasn't even in that much pain ( I think because waters hadn't gone at that point) but I could remember from first time so I wanted it ASAP
Great news red, I do so love feeling the baby it makes everything feel wonderful

tedmundo · 30/07/2013 22:02

I didn't have a scrap of dignity when begging for that epidural.

The midwife was really shocked as I am a very calm, smiley person in my natural state. But after she broke my waters to induce labour, I went a bit menacing!

Same as you kitty she offered me some alternatives (paracetamol!!!!!!!) but finally realised the lady was not for turning.

kittykatsforever · 31/07/2013 07:52

F#*king paracetamol, I mean seriously!! Yes it was the same for me she kept saying but you could probably have her in a few hours yes maybe and you could leave straight away maybe I don't want to?
What it came down to though was I'd rather have 6hrs of no pain then 3 of horrendous and I knew as soon as my waters broke how bad it would be
I had to tell her I wanted it about 5 times though which is anoying, why they can't just respect your decision when you say you want one??
Thee was no turning me either, I asked her if she's had one and she said no so I just said that's the reason, you just don't know how good they are Grin

Thingymajigs · 31/07/2013 08:45

Thanks for the birth story lol. I love hearing about the different experiences, no two births ever seem to be the same. I found the same thing, no issues with pushing whatsoever, but prolonged and painful contractions. I might try the tens machine this time. No experience with epidurals but both times the midwives had to prise the gas and air from my hands. That's amazing stuff. Grin
How are you feeling now little?
Aww those little flutters are the most amazing feelings red. Very comforting too.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 31/07/2013 09:49

I'm with you thingy gas and air is amazing. I love love love the stuff.

When pushing with dd dh was in charge of my gas and air (my hands were busy holding my legs appart). His instructions were as soon as my mouth opens shove the pipe in, he missed one and the torrent of abuse I sent his way was astounding.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 31/07/2013 09:55

What are people planning for pain relief in labour (I'm feeling the love for epidurals). My vague plan is.

  • when traveling to hospital do it on knees in the back of the car (I know it's really naughty / illegal but we don't live far from the hospital and last time being sat in the car was the worst experience of labour).
  • try the birthing pool if logistically possible
  • have gas and air as soon as it is offered, begging for it may make it appear sooner
  • no pethide, I had it with dd and it didn't do anything
  • ask for an epidural if that isn't available go for remifentinail, I had it with dd and it was great appart from the drip came out for the pushing stage so I ended up pushing on just gas and air.
Thingymajigs · 31/07/2013 10:03

I had the same experience with pethidine. I was given it when I was induced with my first but it didn't do anything. I used gas and air until I made myself sick.
My plan is to try not to get too angry with DP when he's busy fussing around me. I need him in one piece afterwards to help out. Ask for gas and air as soon as possible. Then ask for an epidural at which point they will laugh at me because I'll be in a birthing centre not a hospital.
I don't think I'll bother with the water birth because I jumped straight back out last time.

RedRobin1 · 31/07/2013 12:54

I am reading this thread and with a face like Shock

I have been in the 'ignorance is bliss' phase when it comes to labour since my BFP and think I need to snap out of it and start thinking about some of these options.

Although after the horrendous sickness, I am sooooo looking forward to labour as I know it will be over in hours rather than last for months! Bring it on :)

Thingymajigs · 31/07/2013 18:03

Just had a scan and everything looks great. Smile
Baby was quite comfy laying face down though and wouldn't budge so we couldn't get the nuchal measurement. But that was totally irrelevant.
I loved seeing the baby kick his little legs and squirm around. I can't wait to meet him. I say him as I think you could see his bits but it could've been his umbilical cord for all I know.
We made a card with 'I love my big brothers' on the front and put the scan photos inside. We filmed their reactions as well as my brother and mum. They are all so excited. Mum showed me a baby blanket she had made for me and the moses basket.Smile
Oh they put me further along at 13+2 so I've skipped a week.

kittykatsforever · 31/07/2013 20:21

That's fab news thingy, so pleased for you Smile
I think at 12wks boys and girls bits arnt developed and the lady's bits look similar but there is a nub theory if you google it which is to do with angle if you have a good pic
Red I think ignorance is the best way, I never thought about it until I was in labour, I just knew what I wanted drug wise. Said it right from the start and had it in my birth plan, the only thing I think that happens more with first timers is that mw try to persuade you to try different things until its too late for an epidural ( if that's what you want) I had in my plan no pethadine, only gas and air and epidural and that was it, I was happy to go with the flow apart from that

LittleMissSnowShine · 31/07/2013 21:07

Cocodamol is a form of paracetamol tho, and thats drugs I can get down with Grin

Yay thingy thats great news!!

red - I ignored all the labour chat when I was pg with DS too. It's coming out one way or another so why worry Wink

Didnt have epidural with DS so not sure what I'll go for this time. If baby isnt back to back, things go quicker and im not throwing up as much I might try water birth but if SPD is still just as bad then could be all a bit much to cope with on top of contractions so as much as i was hoping to get home from hospital quick i might go for the epidural option. We'll see!

SPD is still really horrific but sweep is on Fri so just hangin on in there til then! Doing final few preparations and taking a few naps. Good times!!

RedRobin1 · 31/07/2013 21:10

Aww so happy for you thingy it's great to be put ahead isn't it Smile did they give you your due date? Oh and we had the same - our baby was upside down and couldn't get nuchal test done so had to the quad test instead. I saw some floaty bits too so guessing this one is a boy...could have been the nub thing!

kitty I think when I am in that unbearable pain mode all I will be screaming for is "Give me the DRUGS!" I will probably murder the midwife if she denies me the epidural. Only kidding....or not Grin

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 31/07/2013 21:12

red try not to worry too much about labour, it really hurts but if I could I would swap being pregnant for having to give birth 10 times. It's just one really shit day with a baby at the end Grin

thingy so glad the scan went well, have a look at the nub theory stuff and see if you can guess which it is.

kitty I think you are right about the midwives stalling women re pain relief. I'm not getting fobbed off with pethide again, it doesn't work and I don't think it did dd any good either.

kittykatsforever · 31/07/2013 21:46

They definatly do when, they gave me paras and I think co coda mol first but I threw them both up and you can't have any more just incase
Out of interest those who've had a baby, how many of you were sick? I've only ever seen them sick like once or twice on one born every minute but I'm sure it's quite common

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 31/07/2013 22:51

I was sick kitty though it might have been all the gas and air I was having. Also 1 minute after dd was born I threw up all over myself in a truely spectacular way. Sorry if this is a bit gross but the vomit was black Confused goodness knows what it was.

tedmundo · 31/07/2013 23:14

I was sick too, so much so I heard midwife describe me as a 'puker' to the next midwife on shift.

And the drugs gave me dreadful shakes.

when is spot on. 1 shit day that ends with a baby.

kittykatsforever · 01/08/2013 06:52

GrinPuker! How flattering!
I was sick about 3/4times too, why do they never show that bit on tele huh
We must be scaring poor red lol but actually in a weird way I enjoyed my labour and it is amazing to think in a few hours you know you get to meet your baby!
We've all got ourselves knocked up again so how bad can It be Wink

BelissimaLol · 01/08/2013 08:34

I wasn't sick - even though I was told the injection for the placenta would make me puke, it never happened. I don't know if I pooed though as I didn't ask. Bet I did

RedRobin1 · 01/08/2013 09:20

when I completely hear you. I would also swap being pregnant for labour in an instant. Its a few hours of pain for a baby rather than endless weeks of sickness and feeling like crap for 9 months.

I am waiting for that second trimester energy burst. I am still so tired and nauseous in the evenings. I have to sleep or lie down in fear of my dinner coming back up.

I think knowing how crap my body is at handling hormones, don't know why the drugs should be any different. I'll most likely end up vomiting in labour too

LittleMissSnowShine · 01/08/2013 09:55

I puked my face off throughout labour, ended up really dehydrated, needed IV & cyclazine injection. So attractive!!! Unfortunately red puking all during delivery is more common for ladies who were really sick during first tri & they def dont show that on tv!

Need cocodamol now for SPD so dont think it'll help much with contractions at this point. Having done delivery from hell au naturel the last time i was really hoping for water birth this time but the worse pelvic pain gets i just want sweep to work tomorrow & get epidural up to eyeballs & have baby over weekend before i end up on crutches or stuck in bed. 38+6. Fun times!!! Wink

kittykatsforever · 01/08/2013 11:09

Lol you probably didn't as you'd see them wisk it away or smell it Shock
I asked dh and I didn't lol
I wasn't sick once in pregnancy with either but still puked in labour with dd1, I think it's the pain as I wasn't in anywhere near the same for dd2 and wasn't sick
Hope the sweep work tomorrow little, it sounds terrible to be In that much pain Hmm

LittleMissSnowShine · 01/08/2013 16:50

kitty - It sucks!! Was pretty stiff and sore with DS at this stage but not quite like this - I think the problem is just the damage has been done with DS and now this baby is a) so big and b) so low down it is just really pressing on a ligament that was probably already pretty sore. Excruciating! HOPEFULLY not too long to go now - giving this baby its marching orders Wink Sick of slugging Gaviscon straight from the bottle, wanting to nap all the time and having to hobble round the house!
