Thought I may as well start this given I'll be around for another (hopefully) 14ish weeks :) Hope I've not crossed posts with anyone!

Hit send too soon...

Agree the nicknames can make things difficult - I love Patrick but Pat/Paddy sound awful to me and Patch is cute but doesn't work much past age 5 or so!

Willow is lovely though and hard to ruin with a nickname Smile

Well I heard that on a mumsnet thread so its possibly not true. I love Alexandra. But a definite no for me as I already have an Alexander.
Patrick is a great name. I've never met a dislikable Patrick either.

Alexandra6 · 11/07/2013 10:14

Funnily enough Alexandra isn't my real name (just mumsnet name) as when I was ttc, I wanted to call a girl Alexandra if we had one so that's why I chose the name! I do still really like it but they would always be Alex, which I do really like but prefer the longer version. It's so true you have to think of the nickname as that's what will be used every day! Although my stepsister is Charlotte, and everyone is calling her Charlotte rather than lottie or Charlie, that could change though. I really like Charlotte and Mia but both are used already by close family!

I was trying to explain to DH you have to like the nickname and he said it was fine as you can just say people have to call them by the full name - but I was trying to explain it just doesn't work like that, 9 times out of 10 you'll end up with the nickname over the years!

Willow is lovely but doesn't work with our surname, like it though.

I am hoping the royal baby doesn't get any of my shortlist names especially the boy's name as we only have one front runner!

kittykatsforever · 11/07/2013 11:00

Well I'm hoping its not Alexandria as that what I've just called my dd Blush
So funny the names come up as I picked it because that's what my parents almost picked for me and I always wished they had, I'd not heard anyone use it recently so thought it was a good choice, if the royal baby gets it I'm doomed!!!! We use Ali for short, will likely be Alex later but as she looks abit boyish anyway I didn't want people thinking she's a boy lol
I like lexi aswell but friend has a dd called that!
I'm the same about Gabrielle, love that hate gabby! You do have to think about the nn!

fatasbutter · 11/07/2013 21:11

Hello all. Just thought I'd pop my head in and let you know I'm still alive but feeling dreadful! That is all.

Apart from yay! I'm feeling dreadful Smile

resipsa · 11/07/2013 21:14

DD's middle name is Lauren Grin

Alexandra6 · 11/07/2013 21:46

Poor you fatas it usually does get better! I felt rough early days but now feel back to normal from around 17/18 weeks (two weeks ago).

Can I ask a question? Is anyone else worried about how the baby will affect them work wise/financially? Lately I seem to think about money a lot, and how I've only got three months to save for my mat leave/baby and the fact I'm not sure my job pays enough to justify going back to work unless they can be flexible (I'm a bit worried the agency might close next year as well or at least downsize). I'm very lucky DH has a great job but I'm aware that could change anytime, keep telling myself he's really employable, but it doesn't stop me worrying! Then I get annoyed at myself as I want my baby sooo much and can't wait for it to be here and I tell myself off for stressing about work/money situations which haven't even happened yet! Does anyone else ever feel like this?

RedRobin1 · 11/07/2013 21:47

fatas yay! How far along are you now?

lol is it time yet?

RedRobin1 · 11/07/2013 21:48

Hi res

RedRobin1 · 11/07/2013 21:54

fatas sorry you're feeling dreadful. I can't say it will get better as I am 14w but still chucking up. But praying and wishing frantically the sickness will go away soon.

I'm on anti sickness meds and only just started feeling a bit human this week after taking them.

kittykatsforever · 12/07/2013 08:07

Alex I think anxiety is natural with everything in pregnancy, I worry about money and cutting back but found we did mange fine last time, I think you naturally are more careful and you have the time while off to shop around etc
Do t worry about your job til after the baby and your in the swing of it, I think itl be more clear what you want to do
Fatas sorry your feeling blurr but hopefully itl pass soon, did you get it with ds?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 12/07/2013 11:19

Hi res Lauren is a lovely name. Hope you are well.

fatas sorry you are not feeling too good. I'm feeling a bit shit too, it's this bloody weather, I'm not good with heat at the best of times my ankles seem to have merged permantly with with calves.
Some of my friends have just started Ramadan this week, goodness knows how they are going to cope.

alex financial worries are a bit of a nightmare. I've been really lucky with dd. My mum and aunt have done most of the childcare which has saved us a fortune.
They also look after my grandparents which is a lot of strain on them (my grandparents have a large unpleasant streak running through them and it really gets to my mum). And I'm not sure if they can cope with looking after the new baby once I go back to work.

I keep offering to put dd in nursery for longer but they are insisting they want to look after her.

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/07/2013 16:56

Hi everyone

Been AWOL for a week or so, busy finishing up work (woo hoo maternity leave!!), getting things ready for new arrival (argh new car seat! Argh second seat needed for buggy!) and weathering extreme heat at 35 weeks pg. Only 2 more mw appts to go, one at 37 weeks and one at 39 weeks when I can have a sweep woo hoo!!!

Away to catch up with what everyone has been up to now x

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/07/2013 17:07

Love all the name chat on here!!!

alex - I was a postgrad student when DS was born and I decided to work part time after he was born, not starting til he was 11 months. Last 2 years I have been part time but I'm thinking of not going back to work after this one. The time goes so fast that I just want to enjoy it with my DSs. We will be broke for a couple of years though but hoping what we will save on child care and only needing one car will really help. Money stress and anxiety is completely normal tho, def not just you!!

lol - DS was back to back, he turned himself finally during labour and was born the right way up. Back pain during labour was not great fun but he did arrive naturally...eventually! Hope baby turns for you :)

nic - glad feeding is going better x

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/07/2013 17:09

And ps) red - I was on the meds too but sickness did eventually start clearing up at 16 weeks. Still comes back if I get too tired or hot. It's a pain! Hope you and fatas feel better soon

RedRobin1 · 12/07/2013 18:13

Thanks little part of me wishes I had gone for the meds sooner. Feels like such a relief to not vomit everything.

I thought you were offered a sweep if you go overdue. Just wondering - is it better to have them done earlier?

BelissimaLol · 13/07/2013 12:51

Hi ladies
Enjoying my last Saturday at work which is actually quite lovely as our air con is great!!!!
Had an area party last night and my boss gave me flowers and vouchers which made me quite emotional. She is lovely and really helped me when I had the miscarriage.
Next week is my last week and I'm feeling quite sad. Odd I know but I love my team and will miss them even though I'll off course love being with baby!
Loving the name chat. I've chosen mine already Grin
Glad sickness is better red!
Thanks for the little. Lets hope she will turn. I'm trying and failing not to worry too much!

LittleMissSnowShine · 13/07/2013 14:50

red - At hospital I went to for DS everyone had an appt on their due date to see registrar and if you hadn't had the baby they offered you a sweep and/or booked you in for induction 10-14 days later. I had a sweep at 39+6 and started long labour the next day and finally went on to have DS at 40+2. If it's your first baby a sweep (apparently) doesn't usually work until full term because you need to be at least a little bit dilated for it to have any effect. For subsequent babies though apparently they can give you a sweep from 37 weeks on so the hospital I'm at this time offer them to anyone fairly low risk at 39 weeks if they want them. No guarantee it will have any effect tho unfortunately! This baby seems likely to be around 9lbs and SPD is killing me so sooner rather than later would suit me fine!!!

lol - In a way it is easier to encourage a baby which is breech to turn than one that is back to back but there is a good article over here about why having a back to back baby isn't such a bad thing :) midwifethinking.com/2010/08/13/in-celebration-of-the-op-baby/

36+1 today and feeling significantly further along!

RedRobin1 · 13/07/2013 17:54

ah! That makes sense little I am sure by the time I get to full term I'd be wanting this baby out by any means necessary!

Hope you and lol are staying in in this heat!

I went out for 2 hours and felt so nauseous inspite of drinking plenty of water when out and about. I can't wait for it to cool down slightly. I don't cope very well in the heat even before pregnancy.

lol sounds like a lovely finish to work before you go on maternity. Excited for you as you get to meet your little one soon :)

BelissimaLol · 13/07/2013 18:06

Yeah I have one more week left. Last managers meeting on wed and then dinner with my team on Friday. Don't think I'll do that much work this weekGrin!
After my endless nesting I think I'm finally ready for her to come. Everything is tidy and washed. Only thing missing is baby!
Oh got a lovely present from my aunt who is thousands of miles away today! Bedding, towel and some lovely cloths. She chose a white one with some little pink crowns and said as far as she's concerned that's the real royal baby. Very cute!

resipsa · 13/07/2013 23:26

Oh lol you sound so...bloody happy. Wishing you a trouble free birth! Enjoy it all. They are priceless (just had 2 weeks off with DD and back to work on Mon so feeling all sentimental).

BelissimaLol · 14/07/2013 12:29

Thanks res. I'm full of emotions this week!
Had a date with DH last night and we went for a lovely Italian meal. The man has mellowed!!!
How's everyone and the heat!? I was born in a tropical country and can prob handle it better than most people but last night I struggled! Ended up with a cold towel over my bump then slept blissfully!

RedRobin1 · 14/07/2013 14:46

It's hot hot hot! lol cold towel is a good idea! We've drawn curtains and blinds everywhere in the house. We get a lot of sunlight in the living room and bedroom which is nice in winter but unbearable in this heat. Things are much cooler now in the whole house.

Going to go for a drive with DH now. Pushchair browsing. Could I ask what pushchair everyone on this thread has? We have our hearts set on the stokke xplory.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 14/07/2013 15:45

lol cold towel on bump is a great idea, I may pinch it for later on in the summer.

Heat is getting to me, my ankles are hugely swollen and I'm not sure if this is related or not but I have had diarrhoea for 7 days straight. Not sure if I should go to GP about it or not.

Thingymajigs · 14/07/2013 15:48

I have seen some amazing looking Stokkes. Smile They are out of our price range though especially as this is our last child. The Uppababy Vista has great reviews on here and I like the Bugaboos too. Ours will have to be able to cope with long walks everyday and face both ways with a decent shopping basket without being massive. Tricky pushchair to find.
Have a realistic think about how you will use it day to day because there will always need to be some sort of compromise. Oh and also see if its as useful for an older baby/toddler rather than just for a newborn. Good luck with the search.
Not long to go now lol. I'm getting excited for you.
