Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes definitely petrol too. Yuck!!

I am going for a HB even though MW said that I am technically high risk and they want me to have a cannula fitted as a precaution due to being termed "grand multipara" Shock

I find it much easier labouring at home and by my reasoning, For most things the MW will transfer at the slightest sign of distress from either me or the baby and I will have total care from the MW. With my first I was left alone for the most part of my labour and when DD was in distress, they monitored her for 3 hours before deciding to do anything Shock

They say I am at risk of PPH but I have not had problems before and most PPH's can be dealt with at home by the MW's. Weighing up the option of having my family around me and them not being sent home/getting tucked up in my own bed far outweighs the small possibility that I will end up in a life or death situation.

4athomeand1cooking · 13/06/2013 11:19

Penny31 That is worrying for you. Hope everything is OK

TobyLerone · 13/06/2013 11:25

Oooh, I XPosted with you, Penny. I hope it turns out to be nothing worrying.

MrsAVB · 13/06/2013 11:32

Welcome embe!
Have not vommed so far today... FX/ touch wood etc etc.
The smells thing is getting worse; DH returned late from the pub last night and I couldn't bear him closer than a foot from me.
Also cried this morning when Stand by me (ben e king) came on on my iPod on the way to work, although it wasn't as bad as the day when ed sheeran's small bump song was immediately followed by athletes's wires -damn shuffle shuffling two baby related songs next to each other!
betty I've asked for a home birth, at my booking appointment they were happy to recommend as I'm low risk at the moment. I'm more worried about our flat - stairs/ carpets etc! We are close enough to the hospital to be able to get there quickly if we needed to, although the time of year makes me slightly worried about ice/ snow etc! DH is less convinced, so we're going to wait til we're a bit further on... and we don't really need to decide for def at all as you can change your mind at any point. A busy London hospital does not appeal as a relaxing place to give birth, and I love the idea of being snuggled up in my own bed afterwards.
penny, poor you, sounds worrying! Hope you get some answers soon.
toby good luck with the big reveal! Let us know the approach you choose and how it goes!
X

cosmic so sorry to hear your sad news Flowers

penny that's really rubbish. I hope it all turns out OK. Is your foot hot at all? I remember that was one of the symptoms my mother in law had when she got DVT last year. With respect to your bump question, yes, its not too bad in the morning but by the time I've worked my way through the entire contents of the fridge I'm looking rather full round the waist. Smile

Congrats crab! So exciting!

Betty excuse my ignorance, but what is a GTT? Both my paternal grandparents had diabetes so I should probably ask about this.

Scan this morning was fine though it took ages and had the transvaginal kind in the end. Baby was v lazy and didn't want to wake up, which I hope will translate into a chilled and well rested newborn. Grin

bettyboo83 · 13/06/2013 12:07

altered it's a glucose tolerance test. They check your blood sugar after you've fasted then give you a sugary drink (barf!) then recheck it. With DS they said it wasn't necessary as it wasn't a first line relative I.e. my mum or dad but this midwife said I had to have it Confused
I think being able to snuggle into my own bed after having the baby would be lovely. I had to stay overnight after DS and I hated it. We are very close to the hospital too.

MrsGSR · 13/06/2013 13:25

My midwife didn't ask about diabetes, my dad is type 2, I might bring it up at my next appointment.

Just about to go into an open uni exam, I swear I've forgotten everything I ever knew.

alteredimages · 13/06/2013 14:01

Good luck MrsG!

Thanks Betty. With DD I was in Egypt which meant getting only the tests I asked for and I knew nothing so really it's a miracle things went as well as they did. Tip to the wise: never joke with an anaesthetist in an operating theatre.

This time in France things are all the other way and I've had more tests than I ever knew existed.

BuntCadger · 13/06/2013 14:43

I'd LOVE HB but out for me. Ds1 was emergency cs with pph, gest diabetes and pre eclamptic symptoms. Ds2 was vbac 8 hours. Both boys were back to back. Dd I was told I wasn't in labour and shoved onto another ward, literally left on our own (meant to be monitored), 2 hours later they check me and I'm fully dilated and dd born 15 min later, I was home within a couple of hours.

Penny31 · 13/06/2013 14:53

Doc said there is fluid on my ankle, have to test protein levels and have more blood test. She is going to talk to the midwife and then ring me. I just love being complicated grrr

lovelilies · 13/06/2013 15:27

Hello all, had booking apt which I thought went really well but weirdo dp though yhe midwife was judgy! Shock NTT and dating scan is on 8th July Grin
I feel sick as a dog today, thought I'd got off lightly Sad

bebsy75 · 13/06/2013 16:06

Hi. I'm new.

Think I'm due 11 Jan but not really sure whether I'm 9 or 10 weeks along. Have had bad sickness and ended up on medication. Not too bad today but so so so so tired. Nearly asleep at my PC at work and just sat on the staff loo for 10 minutes to rest my eyes.

Anyone else struggling with tiredness?

DC3 for me. Roll on January. Not a big fan of pregnancy, certainly not the first part.

Sultanajo · 13/06/2013 16:59

Hey ladies! Welcome to all the newbies! Thanks

penny thank goodness its not a DVT. Bless u - hope they get you sorted!

mac well done on the race for life! Grin

Am very very bloated all the time - desperately trying to find something to wear to this dressy party sunday and failing. Shame its not fancy dress as could have gone as a beached whale!!!

Well had the NT scan today - well worth travelling for 2 hours in the pissing rain! Much more detailed than the NHS, saw both sides of LOs brain, bladder, stomach, all fingers and toes, nasal bone and listened to the various heart valves and all looking normal at this stage. Get the blood results tomorrow but decided against the harmony test as the results were so reassuring! Massive relief! I was shaking like a leaf and cried for the first 15 minutes! Blush I am really tempted to go back to her for the 20 week scan as she was just so good! She put me back a bit so now 11+4 rather than 11+6.

Still going to keep the nhs scan next week so I can see my little energetic bubs leaping around again for purely dating purposes. Wink

TobyLerone · 13/06/2013 17:02

That sounds like great news, Sultana :) What a relief for you!

Good news, Penny. Hope you feel better soon.

Welcome, bebsy. I think you'll find we're all struggling with tiredness! :o

Sultanajo · 13/06/2013 17:03

altered great news on the scan and your sleepy LO! Mine was super active so I can only imagine what its going to be like when I can feel it jumping around!!!

toby best of luck with the big reveal - hope it goes ok. We are hopefully telling DHs mum tomorrow once we have the blood results and the rest of his family at the party on sunday. Like u say, part of me is sad that it wont be our secret much longer, but the other part is happy because it means things are hopefully all ok! Grin

TobyLerone · 13/06/2013 17:13

I really didn't want to tell yet, but I have a close family member visiting from overseas and I want to do it while he's here.

a tip to ease bloating

fresh ginger, lime & lemongrass cordial with hot water... The ginger and lime combo is a natural bloating cure..... Plus it's tastes nice... Be warned, you will fart like even more than normal and burp... By it really helps me when I don't throw it up..

Sultanajo sent you this already then thought maybe I should share...

Penny31 · 13/06/2013 18:25

sultana I'm so pleased your scan went well! Sounds amazing. I have my 12 week nhs one on Tuesday and will be my first ever scan, I'm beyond excited!

flowersfortea · 13/06/2013 18:27

Hi everyone, just trying to catch up on all your news!
Welcome to those recently joined!
crab congrats on twins, big news! penny I hope all comes back well and that you feel better.
All's well here, managing the waves of nausea at work more or less, so sorry for those with HG though as I can't imagine how awful all the vomitting would be. Just trying not to give it away as the subject of babies, and also of plans for career over next couple of years, keeps coming up!

Off to a work do (BBQ despite the rain showers). Am driving so good excuse for not drinking but I like the soda 'n slice idea for next time!

flowersfortea · 13/06/2013 18:28

Oh dear, I would like to apologise for the gross over use of exclamation marks in my previous post. My old English teacher would be wringing her hands...
