Right ladies - off to get myself into some sort of presentable state to meet the family. At least it's cold so I can wear a jumper to hide the bloat a bit! Silver linings...

Come on Sultana - suck it fucking up you sap!!!

Hope you all have a fab evening and aren't feeling too rough.

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 17:28

Thanks very much Enormouse - I take my hat off to you undertaking any form of Veterinary training! Grin I am a vet nurse and my mum is a medical researcher, so she had a minims in the house when I was growing up, so I am aware of the resources available to GPs, which is why I am so miffed with this one. I have just lost faith in him now as there have been several incidents where his advice has been contradicting or just vague with no hint of suggestions where else I could go for advice. Perhaps he just isn't very good at explaining things (such as perhaps it says on the imodium and NHS websites it shouldn't be used, but actually that's just to cover themselves and research shows that as long as the use isn't excessive it's fine), but this isn't an isolated incident and I think you need to be able to trust your GP.

It sounds as though I am dissing all GPs which I really am not. I have the utmost respect for both GPs and vets - I think they are amazing at what they do - I have just never met one like this. The only way I can describe his advice is "random and inconsistent" and I just don't have faith in him anymore... It's a shame as he is very nice, but I would rather have someone rude who can give me the correct information....

Naturegirl82 · 11/06/2013 17:29

Good luck sultanajo hope you manage to get through the evening.

Does anyone know if you're entitled to paid time off for antenatal appointments? I'm checking with HR tomorrow but just thought I would ask.

fryingpantoface · 11/06/2013 17:40

Hi nature you do get paid for any antenatal appointments, including any lessons or classes your midwife tells you to go on. It's the law

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 17:42

Good luck sultana - be kind to yourself though! No more slapping.

nature yes - if you've told them, they have to give you paid time off for a/n appts by law.

MrsVDB · 11/06/2013 17:52

Right now I'm on to worrying about the next thing!! You know when you have an early scan the embryo is in that big black sack, mine is really thin at top (where embryo is) then much wider at the bottom like a pear, is this normal??

Mac2014 · 11/06/2013 18:16

Ladies,

Just been catching up on all your news.

Hope the vomiting is easing... I feel rubbish. Plus and not sure if this is just me... I seem to have moved from excited to just plain pissed off at all the stuff being pregnant stops you doing... Especially when people don't know. Am having to avoid friends who would clock the lack of vino, which includes pretty much everyone!! And it looks there is going to be a reorg at work, which could mean that if I want to keep my current job rather than coming back to whatever I'm given I might not be able to take the full year. Work is over rated anyway, but I think the whole lack of control from being up the duff is going to really get on my tits.

Anyhow... Pity party over.

I'm sure we're going to be on thread 5 soon, you ladies have great chats! Grin ... Keep sneaking reads in meetings to distract me from the nausea.

Naturegirl82 · 11/06/2013 18:21

Thanks ladies. That's what I thought just wanted to check. Smile

Mac2014 · 11/06/2013 18:24

nature they also can't make you take it as (paid) holiday, which a friend was asked to do

MrsGSR · 11/06/2013 18:27

I had my booking in appointment today (I'm 8+3ish), she did some blood tests and filled out some forms. Apparently I need to have extra tests as my granddad was half Italian and half maltese, but other than that was pretty straight forward. She didn't check for a heartbeat. Have loads of information to look through now!

I've been sent a cow and a polar bear toy, they're quite cute.

sultanajo hope you have a good evening!

humpty your work sounds terrible, I'd be pretty angry too!

Still feeling nauseous here, fingers crossed it gets better for all of us soon!

cosmickitten · 11/06/2013 18:28

Just an update to wish you all lucky and lovely bouncing babes in the new year. Sadly my latest scan has showed a missed miscarriage, so for me this journey is over.

MrsAVB · 11/06/2013 18:32

Hello all!
Sorry I've been AWOL the last few days, I'm sure you've all missed me Grin. Family weekend was better than expected, despite awkward alcohol and Brie avoidance and attempts to disguise vomming with the noise of the shower.
Had my booking appointment yesterday at 10 weeks, it was great, midwives were lovely and no waiting around. And talked through home birthing a bit and they are happy to recommend me for it at the moment [eek face]. Can't wait til scan next week now!
And once scan is done, telling people! Can't remember who said upthread but I've been mulling over how to tell my parents. It will be their first grandchild, also my mum has developed a chronic health condition over the last few months, so there are likely to be lots of emotions for her around not being able to be the kind of gran she probably thought she would. But I'm considering the Simon Cowell: "I've got some bad news for you... , I'm afraid we won't be visiting this Christmas BECAUSE WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!!!!! "
humpty your coworker sounds like a douchebag. But if she "can't" work any weekends til November, that means she should work ALL the weekends in November and December so she's working at least 8 in a year like the rest of you? Grin. No Christmas partying for HER (or him?). And maybe you'd should ask for a similar pay rise again after you've told them you're pg, and when they say no, mutter "maternity discrimination" under your breath Grin. Hope the conference goes well too.
Sorry I haven't caught up properly....
X

MrsAVB · 11/06/2013 18:33

Sorry for your loss cosmic I hope everything works put for you in the end. Take care of yourself xx

VeryHappyMama · 11/06/2013 19:17

Really sorry for your loss Cosmic Flowers

Penny31 · 11/06/2013 19:20

mac I know how you feel. I've ended up telling some friends so I can still see them without having to try and hide it. I am useless at lying and always feel so guilty.
There is also a re org at my work and being pregnant does make you feel extra vulnerable. I am having difficulty coming to terms with the fact I won't be there for so long. I know I won't care when my baby is here but for now, I'm dreading it! I feel like I'm losing my much loved job!

humpty that's outrageous, how did she even get the job and there must be at least one Saturday she can work before November. I'd never have the nerve to be so inflexible when starting a new job. But then I am a pushover! I can understand you being angry about that. When you are on maternity leave she will hopefully have to cover your Saturdays too Grin

sultana good luck at the family gathering.

Tonight's glamorous pregnancy symptom is VERY smelly wind Blush

MrsGSR · 11/06/2013 19:43

so sorry cosmic :(

penny I've had extra gas today, not good!

Yonionekanobe · 11/06/2013 19:50

So sorry to read your news cosmic Thanks

Naturegirl82 · 11/06/2013 20:01

Sorry for your loss cosmic Thanks

Mac2014 · 11/06/2013 20:12

penny I know... As soon as it's here I'm sure work will be the last thing I care about, but it feels like i could get rid of all the hard work I've done to get to my current role. Hey-Ho.

I currently sound like a windy old man... Having to go on long walks around the office to avoid it being obvious at my desk! Home now and (TMI) letting rip! Grin

extracrunchy · 11/06/2013 20:24

Cosmic I'm so sorry Sad look after yourself xx

MrsV hope they didn't stop the heartbeat scan cos of the heat cos I've had laptop on my tummy (with a cushion but still hot) most nights working... Crap...

Worrying about 13+6 and NT. I'm going to yell at them tomorrow.

Hope all those with sickness are having a less awful time this evening!
