Sultanajo I've been reading up in the harmony test too, but I'd have the nuchal screening first and then consider harmony instead of cvs/amnio.
I had a risk of 1/160 (so borderline but technically low risk) from the screening with dd and it was quite stressful for a while. I was only 29 and most of my friends had risks like 1/10000. I'd almost completely forgotten about it by the end of the second trimester.

LittlePeaPod · 07/06/2013 17:02

Sultanajo so sorry you feel so poorly today.. Flowers

I know what you mean about about the downs testing. I am frightened that the tests may come back right. DF and I have already agreed to of for the ha money test because there is no way I am risking another mc.... It's worth every penn in my opinion...

When can the harmony test be done?

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:05

It has suddenly taken hold toby now I am starting to believe this little one may just make it. My main concern is if I wait for the nhs results I will be 15 weeks. If its high risk I then either go for amnio or go for harmony at that point which takes me to 17 weeks for results. It then seems very late to make any sort of decision as I know DH has reservations if it comes back positive. I would rather know sooner rather than later! (Actually would rather bury my head in the sand but as thats not an option.....)

TobyLerone · 07/06/2013 17:08

I know exactly what you mean!

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:08

toby it can be done any time from 10 weeks, but they apparently look at the harmony results in combination with nuchal testing which the clinic I am looking at using also carry out in greater detail than the nhs do. So if my dates are right and I am 12 weeks next friday that is when I would want to go ahead, which is a full week before the nhs scan.....

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:11

My midwife knew nothing about harmony testing, but I have been looking into it since last time.....

TobyLerone · 07/06/2013 17:12

I think I will do the nuchal scan and see what we make of that. While we're waiting for the bloods results we can google discuss what we'd do.

sarahleanne · 07/06/2013 17:12

mrsv his reaction was so harsh...but (and not excusing him) sometimes when men r worried about things they bottle it all up and then take it out on us.he is probably worried about another miscarriage or something like that.blokes can be totally irrational wen confronted with a situation they cannot control. im not excusing what he said, im just suggesting maybe he is worried and doesn't no how to channel his thoughts properly or in a nice way?

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:16

I have gone over and over it in my head toby and was very much on the same wave length as you until yesterday when I was chatting to my mum, who can be very straight talking, and it all suddenly became very real! Shock

TobyLerone · 07/06/2013 17:17

I could go for that as a bit of an excuse, sarah, but the "so fuck you!" on the end is utterly inexcusable. That takes it from 'worried and not sure how to channel it' to 'nasty fuckwit'.

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:17

Thanks Tarka and pod. Like u say pod, just dont want to take risks if I dont have to. Blush

Toothfairy78 · 07/06/2013 17:21

I made a discovery today, Craghoppers ftw! Mine are comfy and stretchy and I can get away with them for work! Wish I had more of them though!

And why are our folders so freaking big? If they made them A5 size that'd be loads better. Can we start a campaign?

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:24

tooth you are so right! Am sure more of us would make the effort to carry them around if they were smaller.....

sarahleanne · 07/06/2013 17:31

haha yes toby I agree, althpugh I have told dh to get fucked on several occasions when he's pissed me off lol.
with the whole testing thingy, ive never had one of these tests before, I turned it down. I think if I was s far gone i wouldn't be able to abort anyway, so it made no difference to me. although it would give me time to prepare, but can u truly prepare for something like that happening? I don't know. I think maybe the risks are higher if you are older, is that right?

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:35

Hey sarah yeah the risk increases with age. Am 35 so getting on a bit.... Its very much a personal choice if a) you want to know in the first place and b) what you would do with the results.

TobyLerone · 07/06/2013 17:38

I'm 35 too. I still don't know what I would do with the results.

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:49

Harmony also checks for other chromosomal defects which are potentially incompatible with life (havent looked into this side of things in much detail as can only cope with one thing at a time), but have been looking at the mumsnet thread on harmony testing and everyone sounds really positive....

Its so difficult isnt it, as knowledge is power, but ignorance is also bliss!

My DH seems to have stronger feelings about the results than I do, which is why I feel I need to know asap, so I have time to get my head around things if needed....

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 17:56

Ok, have made the thread deep and heavy, so lets lighten it up....

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 18:00

This one will be appreciated more by the "experienced" ladies who will know who michael bolton is!!! Grin

TobyLerone · 07/06/2013 18:01

I

Sultanajo · 07/06/2013 18:03

Me too toby! Have u seen the "dick in a box" they did with Justin Timberlake?

enormouse · 07/06/2013 18:21

Love the cats. I might have to do something creative with DPs parents cats whilst I babysit them. At least I'm reprieved from cleaning out the litter box this weekend. And thank God they don't have their 23 year old cat that looked like it was at deaths door for the past 3 years.

Sounds like you ladies are having a tough time of it. Flowers for you MrsV and sultanajo

vatta my mw and gp said I only needed to carry my notes around towards the end of the last trimester.

twiddles thumbs whilst trying to remember whether I know who Michael Bolton is

Am off for an advanced driving lesson (pass plus in other words) in a bit and I can barely remember which pedal is which. Beware motorists driving on the coast road in Antrim tonight.

Bikey86 · 07/06/2013 18:27

Thanks pea really hoping i don't end up with hg, it sounds like your having an awful time.

Well the midwife app went well today, she has been off sick for a month so wanted to catch up with everyone before her hols. We went through family history and she booked me in for bloods on 3rd July and 12 week scan booked over the phone on 17th July...brilliant service! On the subject of the nuchal test...I would rather not know but dh is adamant so I have to respect his wishes too. I think I will also look at the harmony test (should it be necessary) although I'm hoping age is on my side and reduces the risk...I'm 26.

Vatta · 07/06/2013 18:37

Thanks all for your advice on the notes - I'll definitely take them to appointments and if I go away overnight, but otherwise I'll wait and hope to get further along before lugging them everywhere.

If NHS really wanted us to have them with us constantly, surely they'd be smaller to fit in a handbag! A4 is just too big! Maybe we could add this to the long list of problems mumsnetters will correct one day (after war, and poverty obviously).
