Asparagus is NOT A MEAL. FFS.

Hope everyone who's feeling vommy is okay (or as okay as you can be), and everyone who's worrying is calm.
I have JUSt read all of your posts; can I remember who said what? No.

The other day, someone said 'oh, hi - nice to see you' as I was walking past (into a conference) and instead of saying 'hi' or 'nice to see you too', or anything normal, I said 'NICE!' really loudly and walked past.

Today I was nausea-tastic on the way to work, but okay by lunchtime.

I need advice though - week after next is our big summer conference, and I'm the events person. This involves us carting about 10 massive plastic boxes of books, conference packs etc from our office to the lecture theatre - I've always done more than my share.

Now, obvs, I don't want to be lifting/carrying super-heavy things, but there's only 3 of us in the office in total, so if I just say 'oh I have a bad back', I know from experience it will not be a reason for me to not carry stuff, they'll just say 'can you help with this, I know you have a bad back, but we're in a rush'. (I've been trying out the 'bad back' excuse, and this was what happened - something needed moving, they asked if I could help. I feel really bad saying no).

So: should I say something beforehand? I really don't want to do anything stupid, but I'd so rather not tell work. I'm also worried I'll feel too sick/be too knackered and will need to rest - these events are not ones I can just sneak off for five minutes, they are totally full on, start to finish. Help me, ladies!

Oops - just reread my original posting. Have a DS aged 21mo. Not a darling daughter DD a DUE DATE of 20th Jan!!! Although just back from midwife and due date actually 17th Jan and have a scan booked for some spotting.
For the other spotters out there - this happened with DS and I was told it was 'implantation bleeding' and although not technically normal was nothing to worry about.; Hopefully we have nothing to worry about!

Jeez - the idea of getting upduffed that soon after the first is frankly terrifying!

Horriblefeeling · 28/05/2013 16:01

Hi all.

First post on this thread, though I have been lurking. Was told 7.5 weeks on Friday!

I feel so sick today. Nothing is helping at all. I know I am lucky I am not actually being sick, but still Sad. Just want to curl up in a duvet and sleep. And my back is newly clicking like an old woman, I am only 28. Woe!

( I have to recommend Maynard's new 'sour patch kids' sweets, which worked yesterday, so sour they distract from everything else)

Horriblefeeling · 28/05/2013 16:05

Humpty, I am in a similar position in a couple of weeks workwise. I also definitely don't want to tell work yet. I was pondering saying I felt a bit off-colour the day before? I am going to be on my feet for 12 hour stretches (usually at a desk) as well as carrying boxes around; I think I will faint. Any chance you could get an intern in time?

Horriblefeeling · 28/05/2013 16:09

Also Humpty, maybe over the next few weeks start having snacks/water etc with you, so if you do need a quick energy boost during the conference it will not be too unusual? if anyone asked, you could say you were healthy eating/staying hydrated for summer or something.

Foodylicious · 28/05/2013 16:15

Hi frog and book mainly,
just to lat you know i have unfortunately miscarried, but wanted to say thanks for your support in the early days.
good luck guys x x

Sultanajo · 28/05/2013 16:15

Hey everyone - welcome newbies! Thanks So pleased your spotting has stopped book. Really sorry for anyone else worrying - just think what amazing parents we are all going to make with all this worrying we are doing - great practice for the years to come

Great your midwife appointment went well Penny - mine did too. Lovely midwife this time compared to the bitch dragon not so nice one last time, although she is only covering so hope my permanent one I am seeing in July is as nice!

Also made it thru lunch with our friends and their scrummy 3 week old baby! Gave DH half my lunch and only started to feel rough towards the end. It was great seeing them but so pleased to be home now out of the pissing rain!

Hmmm Humpty thats a tricky one! Will there be a variety of things to carry - some lightweight?

Sultanajo · 28/05/2013 16:17

Foody so incredibly sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you! Really hope you are doing ok. My thoughts are with you xxxThanks

MrsAVB · 28/05/2013 16:18

humpty your "NICE!" made me chuckle! As for the lifting heavy things, I'd prob tell I was pg, but I understand why you wouldn't want to, especially since you've said before your boss is a bit of a tool. Maybe use the bad back thing and see how it goes? Also, if they are the kind of people who would let you carry stuff with a bad back, are you sure they'd be sympathetic to you being pg? Maybe lots of extended loo trips are called for. Xxx

MrsAVB · 28/05/2013 16:19

Sorry x post. foody so sorry for your loss xxx

TobyLerone · 28/05/2013 16:23

I'm sorry, foody :(

Yonionekanobe · 28/05/2013 16:23

Hi everyone - thanks for the good wishes. There has been no further spotting today so hopefully it was just one of those things. If there is any more overnight I will pop to EPU in the morning. DH has suggested I take a HPT just to check HCG levels haven't fallen right down, so may so that this pm.

Congratulations to all newcomers Thanks Will catch up on news properly after work.

Yonionekanobe · 28/05/2013 16:24

Frogcatcher · 28/05/2013 17:23

Oh foody so so sorry to hear that. I know it had been such a long journey to get this far which makes it even more heart rending to hear that. I hope you make it back on another thread soon but I'm sure the berries will be able to support in the meantime as some of them have been through it. Hugs & Flowers x

Foodylicious · 28/05/2013 17:29

thanks x

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 28/05/2013 17:41

foody so sorry for your loss. I really hope to see you on the PG board again soon. Take care of yourself.

horrible hello! And no, no interns sadly. The snacks thing is no problem, it's them not asking me to do eight hundred things at once.
sultana not really - we transport loads of books over there, that's the thing I'm worried about.

MrsAVB 'a bit of a tool' is very diplomatic. 'Massive wang' is closer to the mark. You're right, maybe they would give even less of a shit if I said I was pg. I am going to have to fight the urge to pitch in, and just do what I always hate seeing other people do in a massively judgey way 'sorry, can't - my back, you know' a lot. I really would rather not say anything. I'm also worried about the sheer amount of work - people (the conference delegates are like headless fucking chickens, and you do not get even one second to yourself. It's good preparation for toddler-years, though: 'Where are the toilets? Where shall i put my coat? Has is started yet? Have I paid? What's that person's name? Oooh, this is nice, isn't it? Where are the teas and coffees?' ad nauseam.
I might have to do the 'disappearing' act a lot, I think you're right. I hate conferences anyway.

MissMedusa · 28/05/2013 17:42

I'm so sorry to read that foody I know devastating that is.

book if your spotting only started shortly after your scan I would assume that it's nothing more than the scanner irritating your cervix. Apparently we are super vascularised down there at the moment and kind of pressure can make you bleed. Glad it has abated for you.

I'm on holiday in Ireland at the moment which is interesting as we're travelling with a group of friends who don't know I'm pg and whom I'm trying desperately to keep it from. We've spent most of the holiday so far sampling the different varieties of Irish pubs. DH has sneakily been ordering me sparkling apple juice in cider glasses. I have never drank so much apple juice in my life! The trip will culminate in a wedding which will be tricky but ice ought some cranberry-black currant juice which ill fill into an empty wine bottle as we're a bug group all staying together in a castle and I'm sure there will be lots of congregating in people's rooms for drinks and such. It won't be easy to keep it hidden all week but DH is determined and I have to respect that. One friend already found out (caught me trying to slip DH my free mango liquor shot at a curry house) and DH was crushed, wants to make a big announcement and not jinx anything by telling people.

Hope all you ladies with morning sickness get some relief soon!

Bikey86 · 28/05/2013 17:58

Hello everyone,

Been for my docs app today, and as expected my EDD is 25th Jan. Also booked in with the midwife on Friday!! Exciting!

Today my body has decided it hates coffee and I have felt sick and generally rough most of the day. Bleaugh!!!

The no drinking this is the most difficult for me miss as everyone knows I like a drink, so basically I'm just locking myself away until the 12 weeks is up!!

cosmickitten · 28/05/2013 18:01

foody So sorry to hear your sad news x

monkeybubbles · 28/05/2013 18:40

hoping it's not too late to join (there seem to be so many of you already!) I've just found out that I'm pregnant with my second, due on January 31st!!! I'll try to catch up with everyone's else's details now :)

rosalux · 28/05/2013 18:44

Really sorry about your sad news foody

MrsBB1982 we could be pregnancy twins. I have a DS born August 2011 and am now expecting (fx) in late Jan (22nd or 23rd I think). Have been feeling really awful today, and food seems to be the only thing that makes it in any way better. I have stepped away from the Ben & Jerry's, however, and am now eating a wide range of antipasti vegetables and tapanades. I think it's the salt I'm craving (too lazy to walk up the very steep hill to the lovely chippy).
