littlepeadpod I'm a bit confused about your statistics. I've read that too that the miscarriage risk drops to 78% percent after you can detect a heartbeat but that still makes the chance of mc 1 in 5 or 20% which I thought was meant to be the miscarriage rate of all confirmed pregnancies. To me that says that there's no drop in risk at all but how can that be, it must be a good thing to see the heartbeat and everything I read confirms that but the numbers don't add up for me?

This is just me being paranoid and desperately hoping the mc rate goes down as have had some more spotting and worrying myself sick.

Sultanajo · 26/05/2013 10:21

book thats great u r measuring where u should be and there is a heartbeat. Try not to worry too much about lack of symptoms - everyone is different!

missm the risk reduces according to the miscarriage association website each week, so if a heartbeat is seen at 8 weeks for example, if I remember correctly, the chances of carrying to term is 98%.... I am still spotting too - been 1.5 weeks now....

extracrunchy · 26/05/2013 10:21

Lovely news, Book!
Pregnancy does really strip all your dignity - they had trouble finding DS at an early scan last time because there was so much "bowel" and I was so constipated... Blush

Sultanajo · 26/05/2013 10:25

pod writing it made me gag too.

gobbo I think thats why my bbq sauce is working for me in my cheese and ham toasties, although am not sure I can face one today.

Really fancied steak and mash yesterday - DH bought some but we didnt end up having them yesterday and today they are making my stomach turn, but gonna have to try and eat one because DH would kill me if I didnt after he went and got them yesterday!!! Blush

LittlePeaPod · 26/05/2013 10:26

MissMedusa basically the sonograher we are seeing says, heartbeat at 6 weeks is 78% chance pregnancy will go full term. So yes there is still 22% chance you may mc and something may go wrong at the early stage. But no heartbeat increases chances of mc (didn't ask so do not know percentage). These stats increase as you progress through the weeks so heartbeat at 8 weeks increases chances to 98% and 99.4% at 10 weeks. But the stats also differ if you have suffered a mc in the past.... It's basically a general guideline.. Things can go wrong later. A friend sadly lost her twins girls at 26 weeks completely unexpectedly.. I think from my perspective (probably due to mc) it's just good to know that the chances of going full term increase with the heartbeat and the weeks...

One thing that the midwife did say to me today was to expect some spotting due to previous coloposcopies and a cervical polyp - don't know if that is relevant to anyone spotting at the moment but thought I'd mention it in case it was reassuring to someone.

crunchy, the sono report actually says that my right ovary was completely obscured by bowel gas. Dignity. Shredded!

extracrunchy · 26/05/2013 10:29

Haha Booktart the shame.....

Sultanajo · 26/05/2013 10:39

book they couldn't see my right ovary either for similar reasons! Blush

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/05/2013 10:41

Toby fingers and toeses crossed for you today!

Book yay for your great scan, and very Grin at the gas/bowels/loss of dignity. I believe it's the thin end of the wedge...

Gobbo glad you are feeling more positive - focus on the hb being there, that's the good news! If you get a week or two more of being pg, that's no bad thing.

pod I second the speak to GP motion - not eating for two days can't be good. Have you tried rich tea biscuits? I can nibble (and I mean nibble) those even when retching at all other food.

I'm feeling generally sick and not wanting food all day now - on Fri I was okay, but managed about 1/3 of dinner, yesterday I ate a slice of toast before we set off (on my driving adventure!) and half a sausage sandwich for brunch at 11.30 (everything EVERYTHING else on the brunch menu was eggy and I only like runny eggs). I had a piece of cheese at 3.30 and by 7 when we had dinner, I could eat half my portion of plain white fish and six roasted cherry tomatoes. And a forkful of tagliatelle. I thought I would explode if I ate any more. This is MOST unlike me!

Anyone else have the Babycentre app on their phone? I love my daily updates/to do things! Today I am meant to 'get into new music'!

LittlePeaPod · 26/05/2013 10:41

sultanajo & Book. You just made me laugh out loud......Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/05/2013 10:42

book meant to say, I have horrific gas too, so my Grin is a sympathetic one. It just bubbles out!

extracrunchy · 26/05/2013 10:47

Humpty it really is the thin end of the wedge in terms of dignity... Last time I went in in a complete panic at about 30 weeks because I thought I was leaking amniotic fluid. After lying on a bed being HB monitored for a while they said "yeah it's just pregnancy discharge... You seem to be experiencing quite a lot but it's normal" ahem Blush

Sultanajo · 26/05/2013 10:56

Lol extra that would soooo be me! humpty that sounds familiar! It's so odd, feel like I need to order child's portions!

coco4242 · 26/05/2013 11:04

Hope everything goes well Toby Smile

I am recovering from a D&V bug and am only feeling back to normal today. I am only 4 weeks so am sure the nausea and the tiredness is due to the bug. Have been so ill all week I'm just glad to be feeling half normal again.

I never experienced morning sickness in either of my previous pregnancies - instead I spend the first 12 weeks with an insatiable appetite. The hunger is so bad it really hurts, I have to be careful to watch what I eat and buy plenty of fruit otherwise I would really pile on the pounds.

I am also giving up smoking. I first gave up five years when I found out I was pg with dd1, did it cold turkey with no planning. I was still a non smoker when I fell with dd2 but for some stupid reason started again last year whilst having a drink at a xmas party.

I have spent 12 months trying various ways to quit (patches, etc) and failing. Since finding out I'm pg with dc3 I haven't smoked. So looks like pregnancy is the only way I can quit! I can quite honestly say I am never smoking again.

So I have spent the last week craving cigarettes and suffering from D&V. But throughout it all I have a massive smile on my face because I am pg! Grin

fryingpantoface · 26/05/2013 11:10

Pod, please talk to a dr. That can't be right!

Book and sultano that cracked me up. The sonographer said to me "you've a gassy bowel" ha ha

Best of luck today toby

bluecarrot · 26/05/2013 11:17

All this talk of food....!

I went to tesco yesterday and bought things I would never normally buy - Danish pastries, biscuits, sausage rolls, tinned soup , crisps, 3 bags for £1 crappy sweets and chocoblok chocolate. I ate one of the pastries in the car park but this I can't even look at the rest. Thankfully I also bought peppers, carrots and sugar snap peas which is what I really want today, even though yesterday I really didn't! DP will be delighted when he comes home on Tuesday to see the cupboards full of the shite food he loves but I never buy! ( unless I decide in an hour I do want them ALL)

Book - even if they were just blobs, they are your blobs ( that's sounds wrong!) and that's exciting. As for dignity, its all downhill from here. But you probably won't even care later- midwives and drs have seen it all before.

To everyone who has had scans already - what was your emotion on seeing baby for first time ( after confusion?!)

I cried last time but they were happy tears. No one to share the moment with then but this time I intend to be just watching DPs face for his reaction as its his first.

humpty I have a half dozen apps and find them quite funny. Mines also getting into new music. im thinking death metal with interspersed meditation type stuff. It'll match my mood swings.

LittlePeaPod · 26/05/2013 11:26

Humpty. Yes going to speak to MW when I see her again on Tuesday.. Not Eating isn't helping exhaustion. But just forced myself to have a little bit of porridge with full fat milk and honey. Feel sick now.. I have the Sprout app on IPad. Love the updates on it..

With regards wind.. As you ladies know... I have been letting them go for about three weeks... Brilliant.. Grin

blue with regards the scan question. For me it was huge relief and slight disbelief. DF just sat there with a massive grin on his face..

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/05/2013 11:58

carrot Death Metal/Meditation sounds ideal, thank you for the recommendation!

pod you do have to eat something, for your own wellbeing. Chickpea will be fine (will eat stuff out of your liver, or something), but you need to look after your self. I feel your pain - when i feel like I do right now, I cannot imagine ever being hungry again.

Off to investigate more apps...

TobyLerone · 26/05/2013 12:01

Thanks, all :)

We have a hb and it's measuring 7+2, which is a week or so less than my LMP makes me, but I know I ovulated late and my periods weren't always super regular. She wasn't worried.

It seems I have fibroids, though. No idea what that means in real terms but she said nothing to worry about. I'm to self-refer to EPU so they can have a proper look.

Off out to lunch to celebrate!

extracrunchy · 26/05/2013 12:47

Toby! Woohoo!! Must have been a relief to see the heartbeat. I'm told fibroids are quite common..?
Anyway well done!!

Hello

I've dropped off the thread lately just because its been too hard to keep up and things at home have been a bit crazy.

Good luck Toby with your scan today!

Re: eating, after spending the first seven weeks barely eating I've now gone totally the other way and can't stop. Even managed lamb last night! So now I'm getting seriously anxious about upward spiralling BMI...

pea please don't sweat the stupid home/work comments. Whilst hardly a career woman I vastly prefer working full time because staying at home just makes me lazy and I live in my pyjamas. Poor DD doesn't benefit at all and in fact does less that when I'm working full time. Its pathetic but I don't know how to organise my time when I have lots of it. So in my experience being a working mum can be much better for kids, esp cos people paid to play with toddlers seem to be rather more enthusiastic about it than I ever am. Toddlers 24/7 are pretty boring esp when they only want to run around naked and pee on the floor. I'm sure there are some great women who are able to spend all their time with their kids but I'm not one of them. Blush

Sorry for anyone I've forgotten but good luck everyone and let's hope things get easier from here!

alteredimages · 26/05/2013 12:56

Oops! A bit too late with the good wishes there Toby. Congratulations! Flowers

Pop2014 · 26/05/2013 12:57

Excellent news re scan Toby!!!

Re sickness, I am suddenly suffering with it quite badly, was travelling on the tube this morning and just wanted to get off! I find that fizzy drinks help a lot. Some Schweppes Lemonade or tonic water have really helped me these last few days. Also If you cant stomach anything to eat I have found a weight watchers ginger and lemon biscuit to be just about consumable.

Wow just noticed all the advertisement I should get paid for this Smile.
Just thought I'd share whats helped me.

Hope everyone feeling crappy feels much better soon.

bluecarrot · 26/05/2013 13:02

Has anyone bought anything (other than hoards of pregnancy tests?)

I have a spreadsheet ( read someone else does somewhere up thread too. I love lists) and so far have bought Natal Hyponotherapy 4 cd set and book , plus a book by an author my friend liked Sheila kitzinger. She's very anti - medical interference and that's not a view I share per se. I'd like as few drugs etc as possible but if there's trouble then I'm ok to accept intervention.

I probably wouldn't have bought so early but I'm having a tooth extraction in July and wondering if the hypnotherapy would help me with pain afterwards so I don't have to take too many painkillers. The books were 99p plus p&p so jumped at chance. Not buying anything else til after scan though I'm adding and tweaking list a lot.
