Very early days but I'm due 26 January - really expecting early February after being 15 days late with DC1. Thought I'd get the ball rolling Grin

Anyone else?

Hi all, got my BFP last Sat after ttc #4 for 4 months ( I know I'm greedy!) finally resorted to smep and that did the trick! Not really got many symptoms yet but I just kinda feel pregnant. I am very worried about miscarriage too as I work in maternity I worry this time I 'know too much' Confused debating about a private scan

Trinpy · 18/06/2013 16:21

I spoke to my gp today who said to stop testing!!! as its a waste of money.

She said if you miscarry then you shouldn't blame myself because, as long as you're not drinking/smoking/eating foods you shouldn't and you're taking folic acid, then that's all you can do. The important thing is you got pregnant.

Also told my doctor about my fear of going to the scan and being told I've lost the baby, but she said she's only known this to happen a couple of times and there were known problems with the woman.

Just wanted to repeat all that on here in case anyone else is as panicky as me.

I've got my first midwife appointment booked in for mid-July and first scan should be the week after that Smile.

Thisisfreakingmeout · 18/06/2013 17:46

My first appointment I reckon I'll be 10+2. I then go away for two and a half weeks returning when I am 13+1.

I called the booking line and the woman didn't really listen. She just said, the MW will look at your timelines and book you in for your firs scan between 9 and 14 weeks. I said a couple of times, that only leaves the time before my appointment or 3 days after I get back.

Very dismissive as if I was angling for an extra early scan. Not the case I just don't want to miss the window to check all is ok.

Grumps!

Purple37 · 18/06/2013 18:05

Hi all, just got my scan date for August 2nd which is cool but seems ages away! On the plus side I saw my midwife last week and am booked in to see her again in 3 weeks! Sore boobs here, headache and feel sick but no actual vomming yet..there's still time tho! Am struggling keeping it quiet at work as I work with teenagers with behaviour issues and when it kicks off I feel like people think I am being lazy for backing off!!! Considering the bloat/ bump situation they will probably guess soon enough!!

tinypolkadot · 18/06/2013 18:15

I just handed in my form to the gp so I hope to get an appointment soon! Like everyone else I'm worrying too. This is my first, so nothing to compare against and like everyone else I am on keen knicker check!

I'm really worried about the restructure at work in a couple of months now, and we're in the middle of buying a house. I just don't think I'll be able to hide the pregnancy until everything gets sorted at work, it's hard to know what to do for the best. I'm just imagining I lose my job with a baby on the way, new mortgage and we will just have dh's wage.

How's everyone's sickness? I have serious food aversion, the thought of meat flips my stomach! I can just about manage chicken. In fact I bought a cooked one from asda tonight and am going to go for some aunt bessies potatoes smothered in gravy! Almost makes me feel hungry Smile Dh is lucky he gets something that resembles a proper meal tonight!

I'm getting through my days with plain wensleydale sandwiches, boiled sweets, full sugar squash and chocolate milk. And chips, can't forget the chips! My dream diet as an 11 year old probably Grin

Can't stand to think about food at all really, completely alien to me!

Bearfrills · 18/06/2013 18:33

Work have offered me new hours and I've accepted, definitely need to tell them now!

Can I run my email by you all? Very nervous about telling my boss.

Hi xxxxxx

Thank you for the change of hours, I'm looking forward to starting them once it all goes through.

I was hoping to get some time with you today to discuss a personal matter. I've recently found out that I'm pregnant. It's early days yet but I wanted to let you know as I have a history of miscarriage and need the appropriate risk assessments done.

Yours,

Bear

I was going to add in I did not intend for this to happen so early in my employment and I hope you don't think I'm taking advantage but I thought that was going too far, best keep it business like?

tinypolkadot · 18/06/2013 18:38

Hi bear that sounds good. Is it more or less hours or the same?

Bearfrills · 18/06/2013 18:50

It's more hours but less days, which is what I originally wanted to do when I took the job

jazzcat28 · 18/06/2013 18:54

Bear email sounds good to me but would it soften the blow a little bit if you chatted about it first then followed up in writing? Not sure how close you are to your manager but I work next to mine every day so I know he wouldn't take kindly to an email when we could go for a discussion?

I also read somewhere (possibly NCT website) that when telling your employer that you're pregnant the first thought in their mind will be "how will I cover X's work?" closely followed by "so now they will be doing the bare minimum".

Perhaps add a sentence along the lines of I just want to reassure you that I'm 100% committed to my role and duties over the coming months, and will make sure I do everything within my power to make a handover as easy as possible when it comes to my final weeks at work

Bearfrills · 18/06/2013 19:09

I like that jazz, I'm stealing it!

I don't sit anywhere near her, she manages us remotely so the majority of communication is by email and the only phone in the office is shared so I can't make a private call.

tinypolkadot · 18/06/2013 19:17

That does sound very good, I might keep a note of it for when I need to tell work too!

EeyoreIsh · 18/06/2013 19:19

bear, I think your email with jazz's addition is perfect.

I've just got home, it's lovely to collapse on the sofa Grin

jazzcat28 · 18/06/2013 19:56

Smile glad to be of help

I'm dreading telling my boss. He's just given me heaps more responsibility after a senior manager left in May, now I am potentially going off on ML end Jan/early Feb. I think he'll be really pleased for me but equally will be worried about how to fill my role.

Boobs are deffo getting bigger... can't wear 2 of my bras already!

littlestgirlguide · 18/06/2013 19:56

I am absolutely bloody fuming!!!! my bloody boss has only gone and told everyone in the sodding office! Apparantly someone wondered why my diary has changed (as I mentioned previously) and he just told them. Just like that! In front of about 20 other staff, who have since told everyone else! He could have just said 'medical reasons' and been vague, but no! I'm so cross. I'm 6+5, and although I had told a couple of closer friends at work I was hoping to wait a few more weeks before the whole world knew. Plus, selfishly, I wanted to share the news myself :-(

boredoftrying · 18/06/2013 19:59

Hi! Just jumping in here but I got my long awaited BFP yesterday after trying for 4.5 years!! I have an almost 5 year old boy and because he took 2 years to conceive we started trying when he turned 3 months, didn't expect it to take this long!

So excited and so worried that something is going to go wrong (perfectly natural I suppose). Going to book an early scan for next week.

Look forward to getting to know you all xxx

mrscookie78 · 18/06/2013 19:59

I told work as im a nanny and only work part time with my lo. I've been there over 5 year's and thought they should know as some days I feel rubbish and don't get a lot done Smile

mrscookie78 · 18/06/2013 20:01

that's rubbish littlestgirlguide.

congratulations boredoftrying! Smile

jazzcat28 · 18/06/2013 20:01

girlguide that is awful! How rude of him!

DawnOfTheDee · 18/06/2013 20:04

Wow, congrats boredoftrying! So happy for you x

littlestgirlguide Oh my god...I'm fuming on your behalf. How dare he! Can he even do that? Aren't there rules about keeping private/medical stuff um...private?

With DD my FIL had an idea of how we should tell DH's sis. We said no but he jumped in and tried to tell her 'his way' first. Then he told another family member before we'd even said hello to them. I could have happily punched him until my EDD!

Bearfrills · 18/06/2013 20:05

That is shocking littlestgirlguide :( and Angry - are you going to pull him on it? I'd say at the very least he owes you a proper apology!

Bearfrills · 18/06/2013 20:06

Congratulations boredoftrying and welcome to the bus :)

tinypolkadot · 18/06/2013 20:10

Congrats boredoftrying you must be ecstatic after 4.5 years!

littlestgirlguide words fail me! Sounds like a total David Brent type boss. Maybe tomorrow you can ask him why he decided to tell the whole of the office?

boredoftrying · 18/06/2013 20:11

Thanks everyone! x

jazzcat28 · 18/06/2013 20:13

Oh goodness me, a friend of mine had a 12 wk scan this week and found out she lost the baby. That's now 3 girls out of my friendship circle who've miscarried.

Now REALLY worried about mine. Wonder whether a private reassurance scan might be worth £99.

moominlike · 18/06/2013 20:20

Well it seems I wasn't paranoid after all - my colleagues are getting suspicious! And I thought I was doing so well at hiding it...of all the things that could have given it away it was my reduction in tea drinking that did it Blush Still not going to tell anyone for the timebeing though as I am in the midst of changing jobs and don't want my current or new bosses finding out through the grapevine. It is difficult though, I wish I could at least tell my manager but hey ho.

Sprite21 I was also due to run an event shortly (not 10 miles mind!) so have feigned an injury. Do feel bad for fibbing but what can you do?!

Have managed to avoid questions about not drinking so far by driving everywhere. Bit gutted that I have a spa day booked soon and now can't enjoy the jacuzzi/sauna and might also have to change treatments! Generally I think though that even if people suspect they tend to keep it to themselves as they understand that most wait till 12 weeks before making it public (I hope!)

Got my early dating scan tomorrow which I'm very excited about Grin - has anyone else had one yet? How did you find it?

Hi and congrats to all the new joiners xx
