Very early days but I'm due 26 January - really expecting early February after being 15 days late with DC1. Thought I'd get the ball rolling Grin

Anyone else?

How much is an early scan, and how do I go about getting one?
Though to be honest, I'm on holiday for two weeks from Saturday, and by the time I get home I will be nearly 9 weeks and due for the normal 12 week scan I guess.

Sprite21 · 17/06/2013 15:59

Can I join? I think I'm nearly 8 weeks. PDD is Feb.6th. I've been lurking for a bit and am relieved to see others are also getting cramps and bloating (I'll take it that's normal then).
This is my 2nd and I only remember nausea symptoms last time, but this time no nausea yet.

I still haven't recovered my pre-baby stomach so there goes that plan out the window, alas.

Anyone have any good excuses for backing out of things? I had to back out of waterskiing hen do in August (luckily there was a spa option so I said I'd prefer that), but I also (stupidly) signed up to do a 10 mile race in 3 weeks time.

What was I thinking?! I might have to just feign an injury.

So far I have been a bit overenthusiastic and told my mum, mil, sister, sil and office mate. Really hope it sticks.

Thingymajigs · 17/06/2013 16:15

We have booked a private scan because we couldn't wait for another 5 weeks and there is a place locally which only charges £50. I have heard that some places charge £100 or so which we wouldn't have paid tbh.
It's best to wait if you can though because we won't be able to see much at all. Just a heartbeat (hopefully).

Trinpy · 17/06/2013 16:21

Hi Sprite, congratulations on the pregnancy. I'm using the excuse of back pain and saying my doctor has advised me to take it easy over the next few weeks. Not sure how convincing this will be. I've got some old prescription strength painkillers I can use as a prop which also works as an excuse for not drinking.

littlest the places I looked at which do early scans charge between £75-100, which I think is pretty standard.

jazzcat28 · 17/06/2013 16:31

A quick google suggests that around me private scans are around £100. Did find one for £50 but it's a good 40 mile trip away.

Might see what DH thinks. He's going from excited to 'lets not get carried away' as often as the wind changes! Last night didn't want to discuss anything. Today rings me up twice at work to check that me and 'the baby' are ok! I had to remind him it's a mere poppy seed at the moment but he didn't get it..

Thisisfreakingmeout · 17/06/2013 17:01

I'm also considering a private scan as my booking appointment is when I'm 11+4 then I go away until I am 13 + 3, which seems very late for a first scan!

i am trying to call to rearrange but don't want to appear pushy/dramatic!

Does anyone know how much they are?

Thisisfreakingmeout · 17/06/2013 17:06

Also just had my first real queasiness! Woop. Biscuit cured it : sorry to those of you with proper sickness who aren't magically cured by hobnobs. I appreciate this may be a bit annoying!

feekerry · 17/06/2013 17:18

got my 12 week scan date thru.... 3rd of Aug. our hospital like to do it bang on 12 weeks so that makes me just gone 5. booo. only another 35 to go.
for those who are thinking about early scans.... i had one last pregnancy as hospital wanted to rule out multiple pregnancy. i was about 7 weeks. easy v reassuring as 12 weeks is a long time to wait.so if you can afford it go for it!

Thisisfreakingmeout · 17/06/2013 17:19

And now the page refreshes and I can see all the prices above my post! Thanks. That's handy to know.x

ldt87 · 17/06/2013 17:30

I'm so jealous of those with scan dates and booking in appointments! My docs won't book you in with the midwife until 9-10 weeks. My booking in is the 4th of July. No appointment for the scan until after I've seen the midwife. So much waiting around when you know early on. I'm 7 weeks today by my dates so far and it's the first day in 2 weeks I've felt human! Hope everyone is okay xx

Trinpy · 17/06/2013 18:25

I know I shouldn't have but I took another first response this afternoon and compared with the one from Saturday afternoon. Today's is much much lighter; to the point where you have to squint and turn it in the light a bit to see it Sad. Is this a bad sign? I'm so worried.

EeyoreIsh · 17/06/2013 18:31

Did you use the same type of test before?

EeyoreIsh · 17/06/2013 18:33

trinpy it could be that a different type of test is less sensitive. iirc, first response isn't v sensitive.

It could also be that you've drunk more so the hcg is more diluted.

If you're worried, make an appointment to see your gp. They can test your blood 48 hours apart to see if your hcg levels are going up as they should.

I hope it is all ok.

Trinpy · 17/06/2013 18:35

Yes. Frer both times.

I used some internet cheapies with fmu this morning and yesterday morning and they were both fainter than the cheapies from Saturday late morning/afternoon.

Trinpy · 17/06/2013 18:37

I'm seeing my gp tomorrow afternoon so I will ask about a blood test. Really hope its nothing bad.

misskatamari · 17/06/2013 18:50

Hello ladies! First time post for me! I'm due 8th Feb and found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago now. I'm 6+3 and have been feeling absolutely rotten with tiredness and all day nausea so it will be great to talk to people who are in the same boat!

Anyway, nice to meet you all!

Kat x

Namechangingnorma · 17/06/2013 19:22

Ah Trinpy, sorry you are worrying, I am trying to resist doing more tests for the same reason. problem is you just can't tell, it could be the batch, could be the time of day, could be how much you have had to drink. The thing is, I have had two missed miscarriages and then my body still thought I was preggers so hormones still up, symptoms still present, but nothing there, so I guess what I am saying is, you just don't knw unti
They do a proper check on your hrmones or a scan, fingers crossed for you. Kat, congrats and welcome

Trinpy · 17/06/2013 19:29

Thank you norma. I've been having quite strong cramps and lower backache too so that just adds to the worry Sad.

Namechangingnorma · 17/06/2013 19:37

And that can be a good thing or a bad thing, that's the problem, all symptoms can go both ways, it's just a really awful waiting game, every day seems to go on for a million years!

Sprite21 · 17/06/2013 19:38

Thanks Trinpy and hello to everyone else.
I'm sure cramps and backache are just healthy pregnancy symptoms. Don't fret unnecessarily.
I can totally understand why you took another test though. I'm starting to feel like I just imagined it.
IDT my first appointment isn't until July 3rd either. Seems ages away but I'm sure it will come quickly.

ThirdTimesABrokenFanjo · 17/06/2013 19:50

Hi Everyone!

Awaiting the arrival of dc3 Feb 22nd but was 11 and 16 days over dues with first dc so should probably catch the March bus

amicusapple · 17/06/2013 19:58

Dawn - delighted to hear your wee bean is doing well Smile

Trinpy, try not to stress too much. Fx for you.

Still not heard about my booking appointment. Not sure if I am meant to phone her or her to phone me? Confused!

We're nearly half way through our first thread already! Wonder how many by the time all these beans are babies?? Grin

Bearfrills · 17/06/2013 20:03

Hi third, DC3 for me too!

My mam came around today and said she was really pleased after all, she's looking forward to either a lovely girl like DD or a fab boy like DS. She's told my dad too and he texted me saying congratulations and he doesn't care what it is so long as we're both healthy at the end of it. Gave me the boost to tell my brothers who were also pleased :)

I didn't tell work, for all I'd built myself up to doing it I didn't. For one I felt incredibly sick when I got to work so had to concentrate on not vomming. Then it turned out my senior manager wasn't in anyway but she'd emailed me on Friday asking if I'd be interested in transferring to a different department and changing my hours. The hours are the ones I really wanted when I first started but weren't available. Now they are. Crap timing but I said I'd be very interested in the move/hours and that I need to speak to her asap.

Trinpy, my GP told me that all the darkness of the line shows is how much dye is in the test. I know it's hard not to worry - I've had two miscarriages in the past, one at 6wks and one at 15wks, so I know the fear of things going wrong. I'm a total knicker-checker, back and forth to the loo to make sure everything is okay. It's easier said than done but try not to worry. Everything is completely out of your hands right now, take it one day at a time. FX'd all is well x

ThirdTimesABrokenFanjo · 17/06/2013 20:08

Hi Bear! :)

Apparentlychilled · 17/06/2013 20:14

Hi Third and Bear- I'm expecting No3 too- DD is 4.5 and DS is 20 months (so will be 29 months when this one arrives). EDD is 1 Feb, I think but both mine arrived early (DD at 37 weeks and DS at 36 weeks, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I don't end up with a Christmas baby!
