DH wants my mum there as well as him. She's been there for all her grandchildrens' births so far, so why break the habit now?

LittlePeaPod · 15/05/2013 16:17

Just DF and I. We already decided we want to experience it together. Not telling anyone till after birth becausde all of them would just turn up.

However we are considering a c-section. I don't handle pain well. Anyone erlse ever had or opted for a c-section insdtead of natural birth tnot sure if that's the right term)?

The thought of a c-section scares the crap out of me. They threatened me with one when I was in labour with DD and I cried Blush

bluecarrot · 15/05/2013 16:28

Hi everyone. This seems to be moving so fast I've skimmed through most of it but will try to keep up from now on!

I'm due on 6th but hoping it comes on 7th as its the anniversary of the day we met.

I was 6 weeks pregnant on Monday but booking in appointment with midwife isn't until June 7th. I suspect the scan will be around 14 weeks or so :(

It's my DPs 30th birthday just 2 days after the mw appointment so I'm hoping she will try to hear a heartbeat so we can announce at his birthday gathering. Alternatively, will beg for a scan before 22nd June, which is my birthday so we can announce it at my party since everyone will be there too :)

This is my second, my first will be 11 by the the time this one comes along. As she's not DPs bio daughter we are trying to make sure she stays involved and not pushed out of the way as she's at that awkward age. Hoping she can announce the pregnancy by telling everyone she's gonna be a big sister!

Went swimming this am and my boobs have grown so much they were bulging out of my suit ( admittedly its plunging neckline) so will need to get a new one. New bras arrived today and they are blissfully comfy. I was a 32g before pregnancy so hoping they don't get much bigger!

Other than that, just fatigue and some mild queasiness. And crying over silly things.

bluecarrot · 15/05/2013 16:30

LittlePeaPod - I had a c section ( emergency) and while I can't compare it to a natural birth, I have to say I really hated having it. I'm looking into hypnobirthing this time round.

MTBMummy · 15/05/2013 16:31

I had an emergency cs last time, I wanted natural, but things didn't go as planned, and a cs saved both mine and DD's lives. and to be honest it healed quickly, I was off the pain killers in less than a week, and mobile and had a lovely shower within a few hours of it.

That said we're going to try the natural route again this time, and well if it doesn't work and we need a CS again then so be it.

The one thing that really puts me off an elective CS is that they won't let you go further than 38 weeks, that might just be my local hospital, but DD was 2 weeks overdue and I'd prefer to go over due than force a prem delivery - if that makes sense?

MTBMummy · 15/05/2013 16:32

Re DP in the delivery suite, I should add he was great last time, but he was just a bit Meh about the whole thing, and to be honest it'll be exhausting and someone needs to look after DD.

gemma277 · 15/05/2013 16:42

Its just going to be me and DH this time round had my mum as well last time and was a nightmare! Think it was too much for her she was all agitated and absolutely exhausted by the end of it. I don't want to tell anyone until after delivery. Only thing is babysitting for DD so going to have to tell somebody but not sure who to take her to, don't want mum or MIL to be offended. MIL lives much closer but DH has such a big family, don't want everyone turning up and my mums all alone, hmmm it really is a tricky one. Who's babysitting your DC's?

TheSlug · 15/05/2013 16:53

I'm having my DH and my mum. I'd have a few more people in there if I could too but just don't see it happening lol! I'm not shy Wink I really don't want a Cs, I'm planning on taking all the pain relief possible though!

Sultanajo · 15/05/2013 16:56

Who to have at the birth. It's an interesting one! I would really like DH there, especially as it's our first and I want to share it with him. However he is sooooo squeamish! Before I got preggo I was quite blase and thought "well if he doesn't want to be in there then I will go it alone" but actually now I feel really needy and really want him to be there. Stupid hormones!!!

Not sure I would want my Mum there - she would be really supportive but I don't think I would want to put her through that to be honest, especially if something went wrong - I would rather just call her up after it's all over and announce the birth of our healthy bubba!

Sultanajo · 15/05/2013 16:58

I am a real wuss too Pea which is why I want a hospital birth so if I really can't cope then I can get drugs!!!

TarkaTheOtter · 15/05/2013 17:12

littlepea I think with a cs you are delaying the pain til after the birth.
I am a wimp and had a lovely walking epidural. Once it was done I felt pressure and knew what was happening (and could move my legs) but felt no pain. I had a little button to press for top ups. I was already on my back (early induction due to gd with three drips and continuous monitoring) so the epidural didn't make me any less mobile.
In theory with a csection you can't drive for 6 weeks which was te main reason I didn't/don't want one as I live in the middle of nowhere.

bluecarrot · 15/05/2013 17:13

Think just DP in with me. Hoping mum will stay with DD... Maybe drive us to hospital - dp can't drive. I can but might not be able to when in labour.

Anyone looking into yoga /Pilates etc? I know we can't do it til 14 weeks but I like to plan ahead :)

GinotPrigio · 15/05/2013 17:23

Hi, I (think) I just got my BFP so hope it's ok to join in here. Its a very faint line but I have done several tests today and they're all the same. Fingers crossed!

My EDD is 26th January. I'm 31 and live in Kent with DH and DD(2).

MrsAVB · 15/05/2013 17:30

Hi everyone! Welcome and congrats blue. We have the same EDD Smile. Also if its any consolation my booking in appointment isn't til June 10th, with my scan on June 21st. I think it's different everywhere as some people seem to be saying they don't get their scan appointment til after booking in, but my two appointment letters arrived one day after each other.
I will definitely not be having anyone other than DH at my labour. My mum isn't well enough to handle it and I don't have sisters. I am a bit worried DH will freak out though.
CS scare me too, and I think the delaying the pain thing is true. My SIL has had three CS and its been hard for her to look after the children, house etc in the 6 weeks recovery afterwards. Although I have to say not having a foofoo as big as a bucket does appeal Confused.

MrsAVB · 15/05/2013 17:32

Ps welcome and congrats grinot.
And blue I'm looking into pg yoga, there is one near to me. I've never done proper yoga before though so worried I will be the elephant in the room.

Alexandersalittlemonkey · 15/05/2013 17:36

I'm hoping my dp will be at the birth but we don't have anyone to look after ds so unless it happens on a school day I can see him having to stop at home. To be honest all he really did last time was sit and read the paper in the corner anyway!

gemma277 · 15/05/2013 17:40

Welcome all Smile Blue, definitely looking into to pg Pilates. I've only done a few sessions in my teens, just always got the giggles so stopped but I think now I can take things more seriously. Its meant to be really good especially for those pelvic floor muscles and mine are in need of some serious help Blush

bluecarrot · 15/05/2013 17:54

I emailed a few instructors asking a few questions and there's one yoga and one Pilates I really like but they are on the same night! I might just try one for the 6 week block, then try the other for a 6 week block. The Pilates is run by physiotherapists and I had awful back pain last time (conceived shortly after a car accident) so seems like it might be useful.

I'm a terribly self conscious person but ill just get on with it - all the classes are small (7 participants max)

Anyone tried or planning on trying anything different to Pilates and yoga?

GinotPrigio · 15/05/2013 18:02

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm going to continue to running for the moment anyway. Maybe as I get bigger I'll switch to swimming.

MrsHowardRoark · 15/05/2013 18:02

Hi Ginot, congratulations.
I'm in Kent too with DP and 18 month old DD.

My first birth was at home with DP and two midwives. It was a very calm and positive experience which meant that DP could help with the delivery.
My only regret was not transferring to hospital for stitching. Ouch!

GinotPrigio · 15/05/2013 18:03
  • continue running that should of said!
GinotPrigio · 15/05/2013 18:04

Ouch indeed MrsHowardRoark! Where abouts in Kent are you? (If you don't mind revealing). I'm in Headcorn - not too far from Maidstone

Halfbaked · 15/05/2013 18:12

Welcome ginot and blue
I've been doing Pilates and its really good preparation for pregnancy and birth, I'm hoping my pelvic floor stays strong this time.
Went to Dr who put EDD at 14th January, so two days later than the NHS calculator?!!
Got my booking appt for 29th May and an enormous pack to fill in.
At 37/38 I am classed as a geriatric mother Hmm but it just means more tests and appts I think.
My MIL is delighted DSS hasn't even said congratulations Sad
I was going to tell my DB and SIL to be, but they had their scan today and are having twins!!
