Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
learnermummy · 28/05/2013 17:34

Thanks Ella will add those to the list. Have no symptoms of low iron and if it weren't for home birth additional blood test that's revealed this ferritin level then would be none the wiser.

AmIGoingMad · 28/05/2013 17:38

That's encouraging Ella! Will ask and see what she says- fingers crossed!

Learner Id never heard if ferritin before your post. This pregnancy thing is pretty educational really! I'd second hearing that about raisins tho and maybe dried apricots too?

Steffanoid · 28/05/2013 17:43

ami it's because they cant do significant studies into it, it's not as if tgey can say will 1000 of you take this drug and bf your baby where there might be side effects but we dont know, mw she thinks its ok but is double checking at the hospital tomorrow and calling, baby is 4/5 so getting there, the day my d sis saw the same mw at 38 weeks her waters broke that evening. mw is hoping it's going to be soon and I won't get to tge 40 so appt, here's hoping :-)

ginauk84 · 28/05/2013 19:39

I too have continued with Pregnacare throughout then MW suggested omega 3, then raspberry tea tablets and evening primrose tablets. I feel like I rattle and can't wait till I can stop taking everything!

AlohaMama · 28/05/2013 20:00

just catching up.

learner - sorry to hear about your HM/iron issue. Hope you can work out what you want/need to do and get support on your decision. I would have thought they should re-consider if you can prove your iron levels have improved but what do i know

and sorry about your birth plan red. I thought they were supposed to be supporting all your decisions...

not long now oli so exciting!!

I've just managed to work out what you're all going on about with palpable babies. They talk about stations here but I think it's the same thing. Last week baby was at -2 which I think is the same as 2/5 palpable (station 0 is considered fully engaged). I have another appointment this afternoon so will find if there's been any more movement. Am getting slightly freaked out as I keep reading that all those 'early labour' signs (bump dropping, dilation, effacement etc.) aren't so helpful in subsequent pregnancies as lots can just happen at the last minute. Which is a shame as this time I'd like to stay home longer before going into hospital but it almost seems as if as soon as I have any kind of regular contractions I need to get a move on!

MrsBri · 28/05/2013 20:08

Good luck tomorrow, Oli. Enjoy your wine tonight :-)

I had the most painful, longest, contraction I've had yet earlier on. It even went round into my lower back. Ouchy.

And, bit of TMI, my CM has really increased today. No pinkiness to it though.

I'm not even 37 weeks yet, Baby B isn't allowed to come yet!

pinkbear82 · 28/05/2013 20:09

What a day for lots of you! Frustrating at such a late stage that communication on the 'whys' of things can't be explained. How when we are meant to be able to make informed decisions the lack of full info makes that impossible and stressful. It's not on.

Had a morning of dashing round sorting a few paper worky bits came home and slept for 2.5 hours..... Really do need to remember I've got to slow down. I did however remember to get my dark towel, its in the tumble dryer as I type ready to go in my bag.

39 weeks tomorrow......yikes

learnermummy · 28/05/2013 20:31

Good luck tomorrow Oli.

DH is in the process of cooking my steak Smile.

AmIGoingMad · 28/05/2013 20:59

Enjoy your steak learner!

And good luck for tomorrow oli! I hope the meal went well tonight! Give us an update on baby when madness calms down Smile

pinkapples · 28/05/2013 21:09

Shook up is not the word! Been out with dogs tonight and one of mine was attacked by a huge horse (great Dane) and the bloke just ran off leaving me 38 weeks preggo having to run my dog to vet! Then an impromptu visit to the vet hospital £600 later and a dog with a drip and nerve damage! Police have been called but I can't stop crying Sad do not want labour as well

MrsBri · 28/05/2013 21:16

Shit, pink, how bloody awful for you and your dog. And how despicable of the other owner too.

I hope your dog recovers quickly and you don't go into labour just yet.

Steffanoid · 28/05/2013 21:28

oh no thats really crap do you have pet insurance?can't believe someone would just run off!

redwellybluewelly · 28/05/2013 21:42

Fingers crossed pink for a speedy recovery for pooch ans also calming thoughts for you and plenty of rest absolutely no eating pineapple, mopping floors or bouncing on your ball!

I've opted to abandon grumpy DH and come to bed. I rescued something positive from the day and managed to batch cook a beef casserole, a pork tagine and a vat of bolognaise and mince. Nine meals for all three of us, cooked, labelled and in the freezer. Tomorrow I've got to finish some work (sigh) and then I'm starting to batch cook some cakes - opted for lemon drizzle, ginger bread, almond cake, carrot cake and banana bread. I make 25% extra and make little muffins for DD, knock the sugar back a bit and its easy to take out and put with fruit as a snack. Especially if others help out.

Now turning out the lights for an early start, I've decided that if I wake up early from now on I'm going to get up and do some work or organising downstairs quietly. Might as well make the most of my maternity leave!

rrreow · 28/05/2013 21:48

pinkapples how horrible. Am appalled that the person with the dog didn't take responsibility. You must be so upset

redwellybluewelly will you freeze the cakes? Got any recipes?

pinkbear82 · 28/05/2013 21:49

oh pink sending massive hugs - hope doggy has an ok night and you manage some rest xx

good luck for tomorrow oli - look forward to updates as and when.

ignoring all the wonderful cooking going on a) it makes me hungry and b) I keep meaning to do some and don't

learnermummy · 28/05/2013 22:19

How awful pinkapples. My westie was attacked once (but not really hurt) and it really shook me up. Can't imagine dealing with that at this stage of pregnancy. Big hugs.

Redwelly you sound like superwoman. I've tasked DH with batchcooking some shepherds pie tonight. Have most of day to myself tomorrow so might do some spag bol.

By the way have assessed all the cereals in the cupboard for iron content and the highest by far is cheerios!

I will hit 37 weeks at midnight, so iron levels aside - bring on the home birth. Can only see reference to HB levels in NICE guidelines so wonder what supervisor of midwives will say tomorrow. They do seem incredibly risk averse box tickers though...

Sarah2506 · 28/05/2013 22:20

Good luck oil and look forward to hearing all the gory details from your section to help me prepare for mine all about the baby!

Just had dinner with NCT friends. I look at them and think they are so massive so I can only assume I am too?! The boys have decided they will get together on days off and have gaming tournaments, with the looser charged with looking after all the babies...! Responsible parenting ahoy.

OP posts:
AmIGoingMad · 28/05/2013 22:32

Pink that is awful! Poor you and your dog. I'm so angry on your behalf!

redwellybluewelly · 28/05/2013 22:37

Good luck tomorrow Oli hope the fasting from midnight isn't too horrendous.

Btw people if you've had a rubbish day don't finish it iff my weighing yourself. Sigh.

rrreow yes they will all be sliced and frozen in greaseproof paper so we can extract a few at once. Its something I remember from last time, craving cake mid afternoon and homemade is a teeny bit healthier! Plus DD mustn't have dairy or soya and its almost impossible to find shop bought cake which suits so I do quite a lot of baking but won't be able to for a few weeks after this baby arrives.

pinkapples · 28/05/2013 23:03

Thanks ladies pooch is home now stitched and with a drain in and well just have to wait now to see if it has caused any permeant damage. Police have been phoned and an article in local paper hopefully

AlohaMama · 29/05/2013 00:54

pinkapples, that's terrible. I can't believe the owner didn't even help you. Hope your dog gets better quickly, it's the last thing you need right now.

redwelly, you're putting us all to shame! I keep thinking about batch cooking but so far only managed to make some granola bars and some cookies. Both of which are delicious but hardly nutritious meals! In fact, I've been feeling so exhausted lately I keep eating up frozen meals rather than making them, so I'm going backwards. Am hoping church ladies will come good as we usually cook meals for those who have just had babies for 2-3 weeks. If past experience is anything to go by, each meal usually has enough leftovers to freeze so hopefully that will keep us going for a bit. If not, then it's down to take-aways!

MrsBri · 29/05/2013 06:30

Pink, there can't be many Great Danes around I'd have thought. They're not exactly common. Hopefully something in the paper will help locate the knob for you. Then you can sue him for your vet's bills (exceptionally easy to do online) and the police can go and visit him.

Oli, today's the day!! Eek! Hope it goes well. What time is your slot? I look forward to the update.

As my practice contractions are upping their intensity and tempo I've decided that today is a get things done day. So I'm going to finish my statements for work which all need client interviews and then do batch cooking myself after a trip to the supermarket for stuff. It won't be anything too fancy, but at least it'll be done!

Poor Baby B has just been subjected to a massive sneeze which he didn't like...DH has his hand on my belly and felt the poor baby's reaction to it. Fed up of hayfever now, though this may be a cold as I've also got a really sore throat. Great!

Back to TMI...think my body is having a clear out as I've gone from no pooing for ages to going quite a bit. It's not diarrhoea, but it's definitely different.

Just want to get past the real 37 weeks next Monday, then Baby B is allowed to come! I'm 37 weeks by their dates tomorrow, but I know it's wrong.

maisiebeem · 29/05/2013 07:30

Hello all!
I have alot to catch up on, so just thought I'd let you all know, that at 01:09 am on Sunday, (after being Induced on Thursday evening!) we welcomed our beautiful BOY into the world! My active/water birth went out the window, I had a bit of a traumatic time, with diamorphine, 4 epidurals (then first 2 didn't work, the third stopped working suddenly, and the last they I'd before I went into theatre. Ended up having a forceps delivery, which I was addiment I didn't want. And although I've never experienced pain like it, it is so worth it. I can't stop looking at my son, and just thinking WOW!
He weighed 6lb 8oz and his name is Arlo.

We are now back home, and attempting breast feeding, A has become a bit jaundice, but mw says this is to e expected.

I will now try and catch up with the thread, while having a bit of skin to skin with my boy!

Hope everyone is doing well!

MrsBri · 29/05/2013 07:40

Wow, sounds like it took a while, Maisie. Congratulations on the arrival of Arlo :-) Lovely, unusual, name.

I can't wait to be in your position now!

learnermummy · 29/05/2013 07:54

Congratulations Maisie Grin, lovely name.
