I think I need to get to Tesco.

roxvox · 22/05/2013 21:19

slippy I am getting definite kicks (I can actually see some of them if I look at my stomach and get a big one), but I also have a weird feeling occasionally that I often think is my mobile vibrating, until I realise my phone is nowhere near my tummy! So yes, had some definite vibrations that I can't explain and have never felt before PG.

I have improved in my eating over the past few days, but previously I just wanted carbs, KFC, burgers etc. I am really pleased I've managed to get some fruit in me this week as I was feeling terribly guilty before! Out of interest, are those of you who are wanting sweet things having girls? I am sure I heard that somewhere... Sweet cravings = girl, savoury = boy?

Smitten1981 · 22/05/2013 21:28

Nope boy here. Also had a fast heartbeat so that's why I was sure I was having a girl.

MotherOfNations · 22/05/2013 21:32

I'm having a girl roxvox but I don't know if there's really any truth in it as I craved citrus fruit with my ds and that's meant to be a "girl" craving.
I also craved tuna with my first 3 and I genuinely cannot stand the stuff normally.

PseudoBadger · 22/05/2013 21:33

Sorry slippy - my iPad autocorrected you Blush

Natalieand · 22/05/2013 21:34

Baby boy over here x

roxvox · 22/05/2013 21:52

Hmm, interesting! I wonder if I am having a girl then...

Haylebop12 · 22/05/2013 22:00

Reckon I'm possibly having half and half then as definitely craving savory, carbs, spicy but also fruit pastels, jam and chewits Hmm

Haylebop12 · 22/05/2013 22:00

And tuna is going down verrrrry well!

TheFalconsmistress · 22/05/2013 22:06

All I crave this time is sugar, having a girl, all I craved last time was meat, had uber carnivore ds Grin

Shirehobbit · 22/05/2013 22:13

I'm just loving all food, too!

Thanks for all the scan best wishes. I know I said it after the 12wk scan, but I really am allowed to believe it now, aren't I? We're going to have a baby Grin

Irishfairy · 22/05/2013 23:18

Hi all, haven't had a minute to post in ages but have been trying to keep up when I have a chance. Just wanted to say that we had our scan today, all was well and we are having another girl Smile I have one sister so I'm delighted. Dd is also thrilled as that was what she wanted, in fact she was adamant it was a girl since we told her months ago about the baby. Also get to reuse all her stuff now.
Good to all those who have scans tomorrow.

Flyer747 · 22/05/2013 23:22

Slippysnow your messages made me lol....what with the vision of your teddy bear in a baby bjorn, I have a care bear (I'm 34 yrs old btw) he is 29 years old I might put him in my baby bjorn and test it out on him! Then the auto correct sole/soul it did make me laugh :-)

JellyCurls · 23/05/2013 07:19

Morning ladies. Very very tired today, left house yesterday at 4.30am and never got home till 9.30pm last night. Would love to be in bed still but dd had other ideas. Going in late today I think and hope I don't meet the grumpy old fart I work with that shoved me out the road and nearly off the train yesterday. My boss said he's putting in a complaint today but I don't want a fuss.

Will try catch up with all yesterday's posts later but main aim for today is to eat a proper meal

claphammama · 23/05/2013 08:24

oh no jelly... this sounds like a terribly long day... hope you get some rest today. Sounds like you have a lovely boss. Perhaps you should allow him / her to file the complaint? perhaps we let some people get away with too much and they should be taught a lesson?

roxvox I'm one of these weird and rare people who don't like sweets... I don't even like chocolate. Weird i know. No sugar. However, with this pregnancy I have occasional cravings for sweet things. I now sometimes have desserts at work, or chocolate after dinner and had so many super sweet things in Turkey the other week. loved them. This is so unusual for me that I'm speculating I must be having a girl... Didn't have it when pregnant with DS. Let's use me as a case study and see what I have on 4th June - if the old wives tales are true!

I had a baby bjorn and found it useful. didn't use it an awful lot, and yes, it was killing my back after a while, but very good for hands free shopping in a supermarket or short walks.

I bought a changing bag last Sunday. The make is Babybing and it's supposed to be "the best paternity bag". It's very unisex, my DP loves it and is happy to carry it. Also, as a second time mum, I think I know (?) what's useful and what is just marketing. So I found it practical and simple. The changing mat is great and bigger than the ones in other bags. some of them are so stupidly expensive and over-engineered... 130 pounds... please... this one was 65 in john lewis - Babybing paternity satchel deluxe in grey. Google it. I also see that you can buy them for 45 elsewhere - perhaps the non deluxe versions but no idea what the difference is...

Flyer747 · 23/05/2013 08:49

That baby changing bag sounds just up my street claphammama. I have asked my sister to buy me one for my baby present so will have a look at that one, a good price too.

Thanks for the baby bjorn advice.

10am is my scan and I'm so nervous, still umming and arrhhing about finding out the gender.

If all goes well today, I also pick up my bugaboo from my neighbour tonight, fingers crossed.

Have a nice day everyone

Flyer747 · 23/05/2013 08:58

Claphammama just had a look at that bag, I really like it in the grey colour. I'm new to all this baby stuff (I've never even changed a nappy before, yikes) so advice from mums is great. Looks like I will be copying you on the bag front!

roofio87 · 23/05/2013 09:06

morning all. I've just got the free boots changing bag for now, its just black and plain and probably just stick with that!!
I've gone completely off sweet things and have been craving mostly savoury and I'm having a boy!! (I still love saying that!!)
congrats on another girl Irish glad ur dd is pleased!!
good luck with scan flyer and anyone else scanning today!!

Warlin · 23/05/2013 09:12

Good luck flyer

jelly you must be wrecked.

I have been eating lots of rubbish too this pregnancy. Craving crisps and chocolate and ice lollies and dairylea?! We are having a boy.

Congrats on your girl irish

We have 2 changing bags. My mum bought us a black bugaboo one to go with our pram which dh uses but it's too big and bulky IMO for everyday use as a handbag. Don't forget you will be using this as your handbag the whole time you are on mat leave. I got a skiphop one in TK Maxx (recommended retail £65 and I got for £20). It's purple, girly and a perfect size. I don't think you need to spend a lot and a know lots of people who got the free one from Boots at the start to see what they liked and didn't like in a bag.

Thank goodness it's Thursday as I don't work Fridays so last working day of the week...yippeee. And a lovely bank holiday weekend with my wee man turning one. Feel quite emotional about it :)

Oh and on the emotional front I went to bed and cried last night. For absolutely no reason. DH got home after 3 days away, had a chat to him and then felt tearful and sad.....bloody hormones :/

thethreeblondies · 23/05/2013 09:35

Hi ladies, I had my first "are you expecting?" today Grin from the lady in the school office, it's the first day I've worn fitted top instead of floaty (although under giant cardy!)

My scan is on the 3rd so still just over a week to go, going camping next weds for a few days so can we all do positive weather vibes please?!

We had the hug-a-bub sling for DD2 and were lucky she loved it, hopefully this one will be the same as I'll need for the Disneyland Paris short break we have booked for Dec 20th!

Changing bag wise I've used a mixture of the free boots one, a normal large handbag and then a little children's back pack when baby becomes more of a toddler Smile

Natalieand · 23/05/2013 10:08

I just got offered my first seat. Standing in the pharmacy waiting for dd prescription and a middle aged man was on the seat I turnt round from the counter to let the next person in the cue speak to the cashier and he said would u like to sit down? Bless him!

Good luck flyer I think u should find out the sex purely because I'm selfish and want to no what your having lol

I brought a cath kidston changing bag comes with bottle holder and changing mat and it was from an outlet store so cost £45 xx

thethreeblondies · 23/05/2013 10:10

Just noticed Mothercare have an online offer on over bank holiday 15% off when u spend over £100 x

HotSoupDumpling · 23/05/2013 10:18

DH has just agreed to FIL+partner coming down to London for 10 days around the time of the birth. I can't think of anything worse than people hanging around (even if they visit for short periods of time, say 30min a day) after the birth, and depending on when birth happens for a few days they just could be hanging around waiting for me to do the deed. I know I'm lucky that they are so excited, but feel very upset and claustrophobic.

Want to just say 'it's too much' but don't want to be a demanding hormonal ranty pregs person.

claphammama · 23/05/2013 10:38

hotsoup you are not being a demanding hormonal ranty person. Absolutely not. You don't want to have people other than your immediate family around you at this time. You will need peace and quiet. Would they also stay with you and would you need to be a host?

I would explain it to your partner and say nicely - no, I need it to be just you and me. Perhaps he just didn't think it through. Men can be so clueless this way, especially if it's your DC1. I had my in laws descending on us for a day (and night) four days after DS was born. I found it very stressful and upsetting (also because MIL kidnapped and held my baby for 4 hours and wouldn't let me have him when she was there for the day...)

This time my rule is no visitors for the first two weeks after the birth. Unless someone wants to pop in for 30min of course. MIL doesn't live in London and wanted to be here for the birth. I already told her - no. She can come later and help me once DP is back at work and I actually will need help.

Stand your ground on this one. I've been there and think you are being perfectly reasonable.

warlin I had a skiphop changing bag with DS1 and really liked it, found it very practical. It's all filthy now though so needed a new one.

Natalieand · 23/05/2013 11:07

hotsoup u are definately not being un reasonable last time I have birth at 12.10pm and by 8pm I had had dh mum sister uncle and niece visit me and I didn't really want any of them there I was literally so exhausted I had to close my eyes too talk to them cos they were stinging so bad I also had my dad visit (as my mum had been at the birth) but I had asked him to come over as me my dad have a very good bond/relationship and wanted to show him my beautiful baby. This time I will be having no visitors until dd has met baby with just me her and dh (and of course new baby) there and had a chance to figure things out without being crowded by ppl. I say stick to your guns on this one the last thing u want is beig suffocated by ppl even if u have a straight forward birth. Was it dh idea or did they kind of invite themselves and dh couldn't say no?
