What a lovely day, sunny, but not too hot! Had our first bbq in new garden and was lovely! Was counting back and think last timeI hadbbq onb'day was 18 years ago! (I was seven) Won't leave it so long this time.

Hope you make it past your 34 weeks Hellkat, though after the other night I did some research and it seems any time after 32 weeks really ups baby's chances. Fingers crossed it won't happen again though. I'm going to book some extra time off work soon and get all the things done that are making me stressesd out, I've nearly finished the work for my post grad certificate and I think if that gets done, and DS can get better (on his 3rd course of antibiotics now after infectionspreading to other lung too) then I'll calm down and lessen chances of any problems.

DS ran aroud the garden today giving cuddles to anyone that asked today - how cute! Makes it al worth it! :o

Marls001 · 18/06/2006 03:03

Liquid - Happy Birthday!! (It's still Saturday for me.) It is fun we're only a day apart (but I'll bet I'm older! Smile)

DH would be jealous of your BBQing - just remarked today he hasn't had time to do it yet this summer! Is in home office working actually as I type, and here it's Sat. 9:00 pm. Sad

Muminaquandary - DO get a maternity nurse. Don't feel sorry for yourself. Do stay on this thread too, even if you also join the August one!! And LOL, be honest with them when you do. Smile Pregnancy can be hard; every pg woman knows that unless she's been drugged the entire pregnancy. Grin

Speaking of pregnancy's difficulties, here is one for some women in the future - just read this in the paper today: "Gov. [of state of Arkansas] Mike Huckabee questioned whether it was "constitutional" for a mother to smoke while pregnant. ... The governor compared a pregnant woman smoking to a mother placing a cigarette directly in a child's mouth." He is considering enacting a ban to prohibit women from smoking during pregnancy. "He said such a prohibition probably would have to cover such other unhealthy activities as drinking." Shock Well, good luck. They would have some nerve. I wouldn't want Big Brother judging me on top of the other inconveniences of pg, though am not and never have been a smoker.

liquidclocks · 18/06/2006 12:49

Marls - poor you with DH working on a saturday! Mine does it too regularly and it winds me up! Also sounds like your govenor could do with a day in the life of a pregnant woman - how dare a man make judgements! I understand the concern of others about smoking in pregnancy and don't myself. But - if a woman can't give up when pregnant there must be a reason why and surely it's better to tackle that than criminalize a mother-to-be!Grrr. health inequalities an interest area of mine professionally, sorry! rant over!

Have horrid cold today and up half the night with aches - all i want is decent night PLEASE! - Suggestions of pills/teas anyone??? :(

liquidclocks · 18/06/2006 12:56

PS - yes, I'm a 'young' mum compared to most in todays times, old to my grandma! I'm 25, she'd had 3 by 22! Does mean my kiddies will reap the benefits of two sets of granparents young enough tp play 'properly' and two sets of pretty healthy great-granparents (my gran does appelation dancing, plays folk music for morris dancers with my gandad and they walk their border collie at least 4 miles twice a day - more than I do!).

Lysettes · 18/06/2006 13:22

marls- OMG what a man to wish to decide that right - presumably he's not interested in alienating the votes of a whole chuck of his electorate - I'm not a smoker and do try and stay away from smoky places, but it's can't be a criminlased situation! pregnancy is hard enough - what if you were trying to give up while pregnant, would he still lock up a pregnant woman at that stage? sorry rant over!

my DH regularly works till around 10 or later and sometimes at the weekend, but he's always done this so it's nothing new, although not ideal.

what did rather annoy me on friday night was that he was at work drinks, due to come home at 10pm, and called me at 10 past midnight at a tube station just down the road begging me to come and collect him - and since he'd apparently just walked the wrong way down the platform and almost walked onto the tracks...... it sounds funny now but i could have strangled him - and then i got to sleep at around 215, and got up to check he was still alive and hadn't choked every hour.....

to his credit though his penance is paying for beauty spa treats for me before the birth!

lol everyone and muminaquandry don't leave us for good, and remember we're all here for support, and you can always think of me having to walk 10 mins to go and collect my p*ssed DH at midnight when everyone else out is drunk Grin

and isn't it hot again today?????

Lysettes · 18/06/2006 13:23

also meant to say (sorry posts so long!) that we had PIL on the speaker phone and the lo was moving and had his head right on the side of my bump nearest where the voices were! it was a real alien moment but bless the noseyness of him!

pol26 · 18/06/2006 14:31

SOOOOOO hot here today.

We have our first BBQ last night too and I enjoyed sitting outside til ten pm as it was so cool. Downside was when I came in felt hotter than ever and took ages to get to sleep then had acid all night- that'll teach me for eating too many chicken wings etc...

Been over to see FIL this morning and had to endure MIL telling me what I should/not be doing and feeding DD with too much chocolate, rolls, muffins and lemonade- she was bad today and even DP had a go at her when she pulled out a third choc bar. Having to endure it all again next week over Sunday lunch- JOY!

Good news is that DP will be visiting the new school he is teaching at next year on Wednesday so will be home early and because he has been putting in extra hours with kids course work at school recently they have let him have off Friday too!!! Yeah, even tho I will still have mindee at least he will be around to help.

Finally dug out my bag for hospital and put in babbies bits. Still have to put in all of mine now. Think this time tho not going to take loads of pads in, as 1- hoping to be home asap and 2- DP can always bring me more in if I need them.

Had some real strange pains yesterday which kept going on all afternoon every 30 mins... was worried that labour was about to start and got into a real flap. Luckily tho nothing happened and think it was just because we were all busy yesterday and maybe I did a little to much.

Well here's to hoping that tonight will be cooler than last night as I can't sleep in this heat.

calvemjoe · 18/06/2006 16:43

Hope everyone is coping well with the warmer weather and that you all have had a good weekend. It's gonna be a long one so don't say I didn't warn you!

Mandaz, Hope you are recovering well from your fall and that your toes are a bit less purple. As for breast/bottle, I wanted to breast feed ds and took everyones advice not to buy any formula cause it makes giving up too easy. However, I found that whilst recovering from an em cs, the pressure of knowing that I was soley responsible for producing food for him was too much to bare and I really couldn't cope. Eventually got some formula in and did 1 feed a day and it made everything seem so much easier.

Liquid, I'm glad the tightenings stopped and that everything is ok. Put your feet up and take it easy, you are growing someone, and that isn't easy.

Clairmow, hope you had a good weekend away and that you've come back feeling refreshed.

Homemama, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and keeping everything crossed.

Mumina, I'm always alone too with dh at work and have found that my phone bill is massive. If DH complains I just reply with 'well if you were home a bit more...' Grin

Pol, I get braxton hicks if I walk more than 100 meters so I understand where you are coming from. LOL at your reduced price next clothes, my SIL works for Next headoffice so ds was kitted out in all next clothes at a fraction of the price from the staffshop. I can't believe that you are so organised and packing your hospital bag already, but then again, I've only got 11 weeks left so maybe I need to get packing!

Hellkat, hope you make it past 34 weeks, thinking staying pg vibes for you.

My friend delivered her twin girls on thurs at 30 weeks (that's 9 days away in my pg and makes this lo so much more real!) and all 3 of them are doing well. The twins are breathing on their own but need a little oxygen cause their lungs aren't really ready yet and they are being fed through a tube. They are expecting them to be in the neonatal unit for 3 to 4 weeks but they are doing really well as they are so young.

An SPD question, I'm having internal pelvis pain whenever lo wriggles or kicks down there, feels quite sharp at times and is generally uncomfortable. SPD or water infection? Advice would be appriciated.
Look after those bumps x

Lysettes · 18/06/2006 16:58

calvemjoe - ive had those kind of pains on and off a little, and definitely don't ahve a water infetion (urine tests pretty much every 3 days because of the high b pressure!)

you'd be able to tell a water infection more from pain in your mid / lower back on the sides, and when you pee.

worth mentioning to the mw though - lo may jsut be catching a nerve, but they would probably just do a dip test to make sure

calvemjoe · 18/06/2006 17:10

Thanks Lysettes Smile

calvemjoe · 18/06/2006 17:46

Thanks Lysettes Smile

clairemow · 18/06/2006 19:37

had a lovely weekend, come back to an exhausted DH..!! But crashed the car on the way home (not bad, just at a junction when a boy racer appeared from nowhere as I was turning right, so damaged my bumper and his door. then realised I'd left half my clothes hanging in the wardrobe where we'd been saying. Who says pregnancy doesn't lead to mushy brain?

Sorry to hear about all the aches and pains. I've been getting sharp muscle pain where the bump joins my stomach - they were quite sharp on Saturday and I found it quite hard to move about a lot. It's reassuring in a way that so many of us are getting something similar. I still think it's worth mentioning to the midwife though - not taking any chances.

tassis · 18/06/2006 19:47

Hi everyone!

Well I ended up having a lovely day with ds yesterday while dh succussfully completed his first biathalon (20 miles running and 30 cycling). He's mad!

It's much cooler here today and has been showery...

I can't believe how many of you have been buying bits and packing bags. I've not thought about either yet. What about birth plans? Anyone written one yet? I had no idea what to expect last time and how I'd find things so didn't write one, but I'm finding I'm way more opinionated this time!!

pol your dd sounds adorable and she's going to made a great big sister. Love the sound of your next bargains, I do love a bargain!

liquid I hope you have a better night sleep tonight

cal my friend had twin dds last week too, but on Tuesday and at 31 weeks. Also doing well. I thought for a minute we might know the same person! I'd get that pain checked out if I were you in case it's an infection...

homemama how're you feeling? do come and chat if you need/want to at any point.

liquidclocks · 18/06/2006 20:39

Hi Tassis, thanks for best wishes on sleep! My birth plan is all written up - it says 'patient would like epidural at first possible moment' - short and to the point!

pol26 · 18/06/2006 20:43

Glad everyone is enjoying the cooler weather that is on its way this week! All preg women will be letting out squeals of delight... Grin

I have written my birth plan, mainly because mw says to call her when I go into labour and her women don't have epidurals (!)... So needless to say wrote a detailed birth plan which was the same as DD saying that I would decide if I wanted an epidural. It was and is my choice! Mainly pointed at mw I have! Other than that epidural was only semi effective last time so knew when to push and didn't slow me down (Went into hosp at midnight after contractions startingat 2pm and had DD at 5:31am) I also knew when to push and didn't need any help (ventouse etc...) or didn't rip (I had a small tear and graze) So what mw said about epidurals to me was a myth. I was happy with slight pain relief and more over feeling in control of managing my pain. I tried gas and air but made me feel as if I was tiddled. Sorry- rant over!

And DD hasn't been so cute today, more like a little terror. We have had one of those tantrum days today and I was soooo glad when she was put to bed.

liquidclocks · 18/06/2006 22:10

Pol - I went in at 5.30pm and had DS at 1.30am with no help - I know sometimes people don't have a good experience with epidurals but I think a lot of midwives are only against them because you need a doctor!

Coriander73 · 19/06/2006 09:36

Hello everyone!

What's with all this packing bags etc??!! I mean I'm coming up for 28 weeks but I haven't even given it a thought..:o (Actually I still have some breast pads floating about from last time in my knicker draw...how sad?!!)

I've had a friend over for the weekend with her 9 month old daughter. Three things: a) she screams for an hour & half when she has to go to bed & want sleep during the day unless her Mother is pushing her in the buggy (both of which horrifed me & made me panic about sleepless nights again etc) ! b) My DD was insanely jealous at times....which has been a bit of an eye opener. I don't know how many times I had to say share etc but I couldn't even touch the baby without her jumping onto my lap saying cuddle Mummy!!! DH & I are slighly pertubed now re new arrival......:o Help! c) DD is having the odd tantrum now etc & I was feeling really pissed off (& protective of her although told her off when needed to etc) when said friend kept tut tutting & looking at her in a bad way like she really was evil (which couldn't be further from the truth). I just sat there thinking you wait, your DD is only 9 months....arrrgggghhhhh

OP posts:
Lysettes · 19/06/2006 10:28

cori - such great restraint you showed at the tutting! I would probably have said something pointed Grin

clairemow - are you ok after the accident?

homemama - still thinking positive thoughts for you

about birth plans - I'm starting to think about mine, and pretty much want to be able to leave my options open about pain relief - what does everyone think about pethidine? I've hard all the horror stories but then read some research that says it doesn't really have any effect on the baby - did anyone here have it and what were the effects?

thakn goodness it's cooler SQUEAL Grin Grin

Coriander73 · 19/06/2006 10:34

Funny you should ask but when we had parent craft classes I was ademant that I wouldn't have any pethadine (because thought I'd throw up & it'd make baby really drowsy etc) but ho ho ho...I was offered it by a lovely MW & took it -the effect? I slept for 4 hours.......!!!!! I do know a couple of friends who it did nothing for but like all these things I guess it just depends on the the individual & circumstance!

Re pain relief...I'm open to anything....:o

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 19/06/2006 10:53

Yay! FINALLY had a decent night's sleep - even DS slept in this morning an extra half hour and so I was late for work but never mind, at least I'm my own boss in terms of when I do hours!

Clairemow - you feeling alright still after your 'bump', I'd have been livid, nothing more annoying on the road than cocky lads who think they can drive so much better than the rest of us!

Homemama - please post when you have news, thinking of you and praying for baby.

compo · 19/06/2006 11:10

Morning everyone. Very nice to see the temperature come down a bit and looks like it's going to stay that way for most of this week - yeh!!
I didn't bother with a birth plan last time. I'm sure the midwife won't bother looking at it. Am interested in pethidine too as I didn't have it last time. I had gas and air and then an epidural. Did tried a tens machine but it really irritated me so demanded for it to be taken off!
Fingers crossed for you Homemama

mabel1973 · 19/06/2006 11:13

Hi all

Claire - hope you are ok?
Cori - you have my sympathy - we took DS to a 1st bday party on saturday and all the babies were 1 or under, and he seemed so boisterous compared to them and kept trying to hug and kiss them which made them cry - which made me feel guilty even though he was trying to be nice - he is just a bit rough sometimes.
Haven't written my birth plan yet - I intend to try the pool this time, but if I need it - it's an epidural for me.
Haven't even thought about packing a bag!
I think lo has moved over the weekend - he was lying transverse, but I've had some really low down 'dragging' sensations a bit like period pain - I told DH i thought his head was engaging (just a naughty ploy for him to hurry up and get the room finished!)
I Have been to the doctors this morning - i don't know if any of you can remember but I had deafness in my left ear following a cold in febuary - well I am still deaf and this is my 3rd visit to the doctors - he's given me another type of anti- biotics to try but if these don't work he is referring me to an ENT specialist - AT LAST!!!
We also had a shock on saturday night - our best coupley friends are splitting up. DH got a call from his friend and met him at the pub and he spent the night on our sofa. We are toally stunned, fortunately they don't have any kids. Sad

Bella23 · 19/06/2006 11:15

Morning ladies
Lordy talk of pain relief, birth plans and packing hospital bags.............making it sounds very real..........think I shall remain in denial until the end of July as otherwise I start to feel a bit panicky!!

Ye ha - its a bit cooler! The heat just makes you feel so wiped out doesn't it, I ended up having to go to sleep for a couple of hours yesterday as felt so tired.

Coriander - I am with you on the "open to anything re pain relief". As a first timer I have no idea what pain threshold I have so will be stating that I want an epidural but then wait and see if I really need it etc at the time.

I was reading the other day that its recommended that you have the baby sleep in your room for the first 6 months - is this true? What are your experiences? I was thinking for the first couple of months and then transferring them to the nursery and having them take day time naps in there from the beginning. Am I being naive?? What do you ladies recommend that have been there??

calvenjoe - would check out the pains you are having, no experience just as a first timer i always think that's its worth asking about all things. Let us know how you get on.

compo · 19/06/2006 11:18

Oh no Mabel - that must be a shock, do you know why they're splitting up?
Cri - forgot to say my ds is being a bit of a handful at the moment, especially when he's tired. He's 2.3 and usually a good natured little chap but just lately he's been throwing a strop when I cook dinner and this morning we were painting and he deliberately threw the water on the floor and then cried when I told him off... grrr!! We're seeing my 5 week old nephew next weekend so I'm going to see what his reaction is when me and dh hold the baby!!

mabel1973 · 19/06/2006 11:22

Bella - I think advice varies a lot, but ultimately you shold do what suits you and your baby.
We found out toally by accident, that DS slept much better in a full size cot than in a moses basket when he was 9 weeks old (he never liked his moses basket much) and as we didn't have the room in our bedroom for his cot at the time so he went in his own room at 9 weeks, we used a monitor and also had both doors open so we could hear him - but I was never concerned about him in there.
But I am sure everyone will have different experiences.
