Hello all.

Lots been happening - sorry to hear about your fall Mandaz (although glad you went and found all was well), and Liquid - TAKE IT VERY EASY!

Re. bottles/breast - I bf DS last time but I did buy some bottles to express. It took me ages to pluck up the courage to work out how to use the steriliser and expressing pump!! I didn't buy any formula at all until I stopped.

I'm excited today as I'm going away for the weekend in about 2 hours with my post natal friends from last time. We're staying in a cottage and spending tomorrow in a spa (won't be able to go in much but have a massage and pedicure booked - sigh). A whole weekend without having to think about meals/bedtime/baths/routines etc. etc. DH will be knackered by Sunday afternoon - but I keep telling him it's only like my every Monday and Tuesday when he's at work...

pol26 · 16/06/2006 14:16

liquid clocks- I have found those lollies too- they are just what bubba wanted. I now get through two a day. They are fruity, sour and delicious!!! Good job they aren't too unhealthy.
When DD1 was born I brought four bottles and microwave steriliser (avent) and planned to breast feed but have the option to express. Instead and in the end I sent out DP to get formula and three more bottles. I was glad I had some at home already though and had already made that choice rather than trying to with a newborn hungry baby and me feeling like i'd been ran over by a truck.
I brought dummies/ doodies for DD1 too before she was born and really did not want to use them. DP had no time off work as he had started a new job and by day four of no sleep and a snuffly baby who whimpered mostly at everything I steriliser two doodies and never looked back! It was an INSTANT relief. I did however start on the cherry teats until she had the hang of it and then went on to the orthodontic teats. The only time I have regretted it was at about week seven when she was capable and was sleeping through but if she couldn't find the doodie she would moan and so I have to bung it in! But she soon got the hang of it all. And she still has it now but once bubba is here and settled then we will get rid, she doesn't even rely on it at all now.
As for the leaking lark..... I could've been Ermintrude!!! About the fourth day I got undress to get into the shower and was just tying my hair back when felt a dripping on my still there but now saggy tummy... it was milk and absolutely everywhere like a dripping tap. In the end got into the shower with two breast pads taped on my with micropore as I had decided to not breast feed and my boobs were like two huge watermelons I felt as if my arms couldn't even go down at the sides! I wanted the milk gone as I had really established formula feeding. It went after about two weeks tho and then gave all breast pads away I had left. I think it's worth while having one packet in, just incase.
And if I wasn't preg would be loving it but as I am why-o-why have we got that blazing sun back???!

pol26 · 16/06/2006 14:17

Oh sorry Mandaz- glad to hear you're just bruised and nothing else. We were all worried about you.
Take it easy and make the most of DH being sympathetic.

clairemow · 16/06/2006 14:25

Laughing re. leaking in the shower - spraying the walls with milk - such a waste!! I leaked loads, and never went anywhere without a pad and spares.. Used to get through at least 4 on each side, each day. And over night, well, soggy isn't the word. Once forgot to put them in my bra at night, and woke up to 2 huge wet patches under me. No-one likes the wet patch... (sorry).

Has anyone else started to produce cholostrum already? Or maybe I was meant to be a cow and it all went wrong somewhere along the line??

pol26 · 16/06/2006 14:38

Nothing as yet- touch wood... and I know what you mean about the wet patch... never would I dare go to bed without ample padding in my bra or i'd wake up soaking.

homemama · 16/06/2006 14:55

In case I don't get a chance to post over the weekend, can your thoughts be with us at the scan on Monday morning. I'll post afterwards with the update.
Thanks

compo · 16/06/2006 14:57

Oh yes definitely Homemama. All the best Smile - hope you manage to have a calm, relaxing weekend.

mandaz · 16/06/2006 15:14

Homemamma - I'll be thinking about you on Monday. Hope all goes well.

Normsnockers · 16/06/2006 16:04

Homemama, I was deliberately staying off the subject of your scan on Monday but I wish you and your family all the best. Fingers crossed any saying a little prayer for you over the weekend.

Lysettes · 16/06/2006 18:06

liquid - please please please take the advice and rest - it's really tough but you must do it!

clairemow - i'm leaking already - well had a couple of days while we were away that coincided with a particularly hormonal and weepy patch I was going through, but since then nothing - am carrying around a pair of pads in my handbag wherever I go! people will think i'm a loony if I ever drop my bag Blush

for everyone who is weighing themselves, i daren't even go near the scales! I needed to get rid of about 3/4 of a stone before getting pg and now i dread to think...

also managed to get the steriliser and breast pump from boots today - they are doing triple points till sunday if anyone needs anything - and in the parenting club the voucher for 1500 free points if you spend over £75 in one go (on a sterliser and an avent breast pump it's easy Blush) seems to be able to be reused once it's on your advantage card (i used it on wednesday and they added on extra free points today as wel!) so we're prepared for all eventualities here.....

have a great weekend everyone, and hopefully the heat won't be too stifling

lol

Marls001 · 16/06/2006 18:13

Forgot abt. my own bday this morning Blush until DH & DS began singing. Smile
Since we're all talking of weight ... My weight + 1 pound will be considered "overweight" by the body mass index scale. Have been feeling decidedly unsexy, and very heavy, as turning 37. Hardest part is trying to maneuver the watermelon for that first step out of bed. DH helped a great deal this morning by remarking I still look like the woman he married 8 years ago. (If only I was feeling like her!) Smile

Norms – I echo Mabel. Weight didn’t come off until my whole body was mine again.

Skinny cow is just okay … agree it tasted kind of artificial to me. Now addicted to “Edy’s Slow Churned Light,” which is much better.

Mandaz and Liquid, glad you’re both okay.
Homemama, best of luck on Monday.

pol26 · 16/06/2006 19:39

Homemama- Think of you this weekend and all the luck I can send for Monday, keeping my fat little fingers and toes crossed.

liquidclocks · 16/06/2006 19:57

Will be thinking of you monday homemama - all the best, try and have a nice weekend.

My boobs started on the milk production around 14/15 weeks! I was early with DS too - more proof forme it was him not ok with BF and not me! Breast pads are at the ready... Blush

Marls - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! - we're a day apart, lovely having summer birthdays isn't it?! Hope you had a good one :)

liquidclocks · 16/06/2006 20:42

PS - someone was asking about nice maternity dresses, try www.picchumaternity.com/uk/index.html - pricey but not as bad as isabella oliver and more choice!

ezridax · 16/06/2006 21:25

Glad every1 is ok - generally. Although there have been bumps and scrapes along the way.

Just thought i'd tell you that i've just eaten a white chocolate magnum. Mmmmmmmmm

And thanx for scaring me with the leaky boob stories. Mine are huge and are getting bigger and more painful. What's that all about?
TC

Lysettes · 16/06/2006 22:30

and with preg head on totally forgot to send homemama big big hugs and fingers crossed for the whole weekend for you for monday.

and happy birthday marls - and liquid as well - have a wonderful day Smile

tassis · 16/06/2006 22:58

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Marls and Liquidclocks.

Marls - I adored my boppy feeding pillow last time and need a new one. Got it in John Lewis last time, but can't seem to find a UK stockist this time. Anyone seen them?

Manda - what a scare re falling. Glad you're OK. Hope the toes aren't too sore.

LC - glad you got the contractions checked out. I was in and out of hospital last time from 32 weeks with tightenings/contractions. I had UTIs and was on anitbiotics for weeks so maybe that sparked them off. They were sore and would be regular for several hours. Horrible. Threatened pre-term labour so had tour of neo-natal unit, but all calmed down in the end. Scary time. Make me quite paranoid and anxious about it happening again. You were so right to get them checked out.

Clairemow - have a fantastic spoiling weekend. Sounds lovely.

Homemama - praying for you for Monday.

I'm home alone with ds tomorrow as dh is doing a biathalon. Had an exhausting day today with a toddlers trip and then teenagers from church round for a BBQ. Must go to bed...

HellKat · 17/06/2006 09:59

Morning all.
Big hiyas & hugs to everyone.
Marls- Hope you had a great birthday.
Homemama- Hope you're feeling better, how awful!
Mandaz- Poor you!!! Hope you're not too sore.
LC- I know exactly what you went through!! I've been having contractions/tightenings for a few weeks but the other night they got very painful. I did'nt ring anyone because they cleared up but if they start up again, I shall be straight on the phone to the mw. I was panicking because ds2 was a premmie and I'm at risk of it happening again.
Must admit, I'm alot calmer now though knowing that I've reached 27 wks. I'm counting down the days/weeks until 34 wks (only 10 wks away) because that's when I had ds2. Anything over that will be a bonus. I'll be seeing my consultant on Tuesday so will mention them to her.

How's everyone else doing?
Hope everyone has a fab weekend xxxxxxxxxx

mabel1973 · 17/06/2006 12:11

hi all

Happy birthday to Marls and Liquid.
Big hugs to Homemama for monday XXX

Mandaz - just a thought but if you don't want to buy a steriliser, you can get bottles from mothercare called 'Sterliser bottles' I used them last time and basically, you invert them and fill the cap with water and sterilse them in the micrwave - doing away with the need for a steriliser. I just used Milton for things like dummies and my breast pump.

Can't remember who said about shortness of beath , but I have got it - especially if I lie down on my back (which I know you're not supposed to do!)
Just been to Boots to do my 'holiday shop' thought I'd buy some dummies for lo - or dud duds as Ds calls them. I too said I wanted to avoid them, but having spent the 1st night at home with my arm hanging out of bed in to the moses basket and little finger clamped in DS's mouth to sooth him, I now live in the real world!!

muminaquandary · 17/06/2006 14:44

Happy birthday Marls & Liquid.
Good luck on MOnday homemama. Hope all is well.

Tassis, I am pleased to see that I am not the only one home alone on a regular basis. DH at Lord's today, Mum at the tennis (this is a little unusual but both of them lucked out on the tickets this year) ... fave auntie got a new lodger arriving, BF gone to France .... so home alone with DS after a week of DH being home at 10 or midnight ... always vowed I would never do it, but I suddenly thought, sh*t, this is what my life is really like, maybe I should just panic now and get a maternity nurse!!! Feeling really sorry for myself.

Will go off to August thread now and pretend to be really upbeat about life

muminaquandary · 17/06/2006 14:45

HellKat - good luck for getting to past 34 weeks

pol26 · 17/06/2006 14:57

Happy birthday to those celebrating today!

The hot weather doesn't seem so bad today, although just eaten a fab so maybe that is why. Out of madness have been convinced into us having a BBQ tonight after DD1 goes to bed. Now DP is going to have to go out and buy one and all the stuff that goes with them... except he's asleep in the chair.

So enjoying peace for the time being with DD1 asleep and DP asleep! Grin

As for the painful contractions- who said braxton hicks were painless. If I walk far or up a steep hill (to walk into town I go under an underpass and have DD1 to push) I get stabbing pains down low in my bump and very short of breath... (maybe the breathlessness is heaving my fat backside up tho). Def feel this bubba will not be in passed 40 weeks.

27 weeks on Monday and now really starting to count down. Went out on a mad boots shop this morning for mat. pads, breast pads, deodrant, little tooth paste and brush and little shampoo etc to start to pack my hospital bag rather than forgetting things like last time.

Going to enjoy getting all the bubba clothes out and decide which ones to take into hospital with me for bubba- not used to all this blue stuff!!! And been letting DD1 choose more cuddlies for him too as let her buy a little roo from the disney store as she pointed to him and said 'Ben, ta ta'.

Been going mad in our next clearance shop too... all kids clothes were £4 per item or less so been buying up the whole shop. Spent £70 in there for bubba and few bits for DD1. They even had there new stuff which is in the normal next's for £4 too! Felt like I have got a real bargain when picked up the soft knit baby blue tank top and tee for £4 rather than £10... I would reccommend any one going to one near them to see what bargains they can get- even coats were £4. (Ours is by lakeside)

compo · 17/06/2006 20:03

Hi everyone. Glad everyone else is starting to spend, spend, spend!! I got some Advent bottles from Boots today - 4 for 9.99p and a single one with the 50p off Boots parenting club voucher. Five was all we could fit into our microwavable sterileser last time even though it said you could fit in eight!! our sterilser cost about £12 I think - it's one of those that you bung into the microwave with a wee bit of water for 5 minutes. It's just a big plastic bowl really which I'm sure would do just as well!! Also got the free Boots Sensitive Bath Foam - thought ds may as well use it with the parenting club Boots voucher. I couldn't believe how many newborn creams, moisturisers etc there are for newborns - we didn't use anything like that, just good old Sudocrem if ds' bottom looked a bit red.
