Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pol26 · 14/06/2006 14:38

Claremow- I meant not my mum and dad but mindees mum and dad weren't too happy that I was giving notice minding him.
Puppy- got an outstanding grade I think, as far as she said but will read the whole report when I get it, she said 20 days although i'm sure it will be longer- we all know what OFSTED can be like...

Other than that enjoying the cooler weather!!! Today is the first day that I haven't had the front room windows open because I felt too cold Shock that i'm sure you will agree is unheard of for a preg woman in June!!!
Mindee hasn't been sent today either, so not I really know his mum and dad aren't too happy but what can I do- I can't keep having him forever and I didn't promise to either. Feeling guilty tho and sad to see him go.

pol26 · 14/06/2006 14:40

Mandaz- meant to say, go to docs now, or maternity unit if you are in that much pain that it brings tears. It can never hurt to be better safe than sorry. And it's doing no good for you or bubba worrying about it.

Lysettes · 14/06/2006 15:00

Mandaz - totally agree with pol - get to the doctors or mat unit, or if all else fails just go to casualty and take your notes with you.

RMW2, agree with clairemow about having some extra time, but being cheeky, see if you can get this through being signed off with illness rather than having to use up mat leave.

Pol - well done on inspection, that's great news, and you know you just have to do what's best for you re the mindee - some people can be a little shortsighted and selfish though...

First driving lesson taken this morning, and although I was near to throwing up beforehand I was so scared, it actually went quite well! Next one booked for Monday so fingers crossed it stays overcast and cool and not hot and sunny Grin

calvemjoe - i will lobby my local boots branch for the extra points - maybe they could make it a benefit of the parenting club! I must admit my remembering to do them isn't that frequent, or not as much as it should be - hope it's right they're more important afterwards!

Off for a guilty free snack sized magnum Blush

mandaz · 14/06/2006 15:08

Thanks for the advice. I rang the doctors and they're booked up until next week so think I'll have to book an emergency appointment tomorrow. I just worry that they'll think I'm wasting their time if it's something really simple or there's nothing they can do, especially as the receptionist told me that I should only ring for a 'medical emergency' tomorrow. Anyway, I will get seen one way or another. Thanks again

pol26 · 14/06/2006 15:14

Mandaz- I would just go into your day assessment unit, they are usually v.nice ladies in there and will monitor you and make sure you are ok... you have me worried about your bubba!!!
Lysettes- Glad the driving lessons are going well!

homemama · 14/06/2006 15:30

Mandaz, bloody dr surgeries are full of people who really are wasting their time so don't feel guilty about something so painful and so worrying.

Well done with the driving, Lysettes. It really will make parenthood so much easier as I can't imagine it's fun trying to get on a bus with a baby or toddler.

Pol, well done with your inspection. As a teacher, the word OFSTED sends shivers down my spine. It's silly really as I've been inspected twice and both times did well but I think it's just the anticipation.

Oh and I don't think I have a pelvic floor left to exercise! Grin

clairemow · 14/06/2006 17:13

Mandaz, don't feel guilty. If you are in pain, then get to the doc's. If they can't see you (which would surprise me), can you go to an emergency section of a hospital or something? I bet if you turn up at the doctor's they won't turn you away... mind you, I have no idea how your health system works.

liquidclocks · 14/06/2006 19:33

Hi all, hope everyone's been enjoyig the reprieve from the hot weather :)

Mandaz - Have you tried ringing your delivery suite? That's what we're told to do in our area if somethings bothering us and they're there 24/7 - I had to ring a few times when I had DS and it was always nothing but they were so nice about it. If it's something to be concerned about your doctor would probably just send you there anyway. Hope you feel better soon but if it's hurting so much it's making your eyes water then ring them right now and don't feel guilty- that's what they're paid for after all!

Marls001 · 14/06/2006 19:42

Manda, I'm 6 hours late on this, but will also echo the others' "better safe than sorry." Meanwhile is there any number or service (midwife, doctors' or insurance co. nurse) where you can call and describe your symptoms for some instant feedback on what they might be?

Lysettes - still remember trying to drive on the (8-lane) freeway with my mom for the first time when I was 15! It can be frightening especially with so many other seasoned drivers flying by you, but results over time are well worth it! Smile

Lysettes · 14/06/2006 19:56

totally agree with everyone else that doc's surgeries are full of times wasters - if there is one time that you are not wasting their time it's now Smile

I would either turn up at the doctors and wait there, or if you want to see someone tonight, just go to a&e - I think we are all going to worry that you are ok

thanks for the good wishes ladies re the driving lessons - next one on Monday so fingers crossed that it goes well!

Lysettes · 14/06/2006 20:19

i also meant to say the boots have started doing ultra slim maternity pads - along side the normal ones.

they are almost double the price though Sad

compo · 15/06/2006 10:03

Morning everyone. I got my Huggies bag yesterday from the Boots parenting club. I can't beleive that normally it would cost £24.99!! The bag is nice but there wasn't much in it!! Still raining here so I'm enjoying the cooler weather. It's meant to get hotter by the weekend so I'm trying to get as much sleep as possible while it's cool!!

Bella23 · 15/06/2006 10:09

Morning ladies.

Firstly, Mandaz how are you feeling today? I agree with everyone that you need to get it checked out asap. I would be tempted to go to A&E. Let us know what you have decided.

Lysettes - how are you getting on with the driving lessons? I have noticed that driving is getting more uncomfortable for me, especially parking when I have to turn round, mind you that might be my bad habit and you are probably doing it properly with the use of just mirrors.

Pol - well done on the inspection and stuff the mindee parents who are not happy with your decision to stop......honestly some people are just so self absorbed!

Well painting of new nursery is all finished and we had new carpets fitted yesterday so its really coming together. Just need to buy some furniture which we are looking at this weekend.......very exciting!
I sat in there last night with DH talking about how different our lives will be in a few months, just can't imagine and can't wait!!

The temps dropped a bit this morning which is a relief. Hope everyone is ok xx

Normsnockers · 15/06/2006 10:14

Compo,

I figured that in order to keep working until week 38 I need to rest each evening with my feet up so I started watching big brother this year right from the start.

The plan has worked so far, I'm so hooked that I am on the sofa in time for BBLB on cable T.V. at 8.30 followed by BB on C4 at 9.00.

An hour and half later at 10.00 I'm ready for bed but the addiction stops me trying to fit in too much housework or garden jobs, I've turned into a BB slob and my blood pressure was measured by the midwife yesterday at 100/70, no longer worryingly high as it had been. She was pleased and I was over the moon.

I didn't tell her it was due to a BB addiction !

Lysettes · 15/06/2006 10:15

hi everyone!

i was going to pick up my huggies pack yesterday but actually managed to buy the sterliser i wanted so had my hands full! I agree, it looked rather sparse inside!

driving lesson was first one ever so haven't even got to parking yet - the lo actually decided to behave and not wriggle like a mad thing so it wasn't uncomfortable at all - instructor reckons i have 7 weeks at max left (will be in hospital just after that anyway the consultant reckons!) so am trying to get as much learning in before then.

am so relieved it's a bit cooler again today, and there's actually a breeze outside!

Mandaz - do let us know how you are - am worried about you and your lo.

I have a growth scan today to check he's doing ok so more piccies - will let you all know when i get back

lol

muminaquandary · 15/06/2006 10:15

Hello all - from having been a not very frequent poster I may now have to say good bye - as went to see consultant yesterday who took one look at the notes from my 1st delivery & said "I'll just go and get you a date for your c-section now". She came back in with the date of 29 August so will have to go and join the ladies over on the August thread.

V pleased about it tho, as last time was v overdue and fairly lengthy / painful / complex labour. SO this time I don't have to go to term, or be overdue, or spend 8 nights in the maternity ward!!!

Normsnockers · 15/06/2006 10:17

I got a free huggies changing bag last time and there was loads of stuff in it.

I have the voucher for another one this time and wonder it it would be greedy to get a second bag for the freebies inside.

I could add it to the pile of stuff I eventually intend to sell on eBay Grin

Normsnockers · 15/06/2006 10:19

Muminaquandry,

Congrats on the c-section date.

Elective c-sections are nothing like the one you had last time, all being well you could be home after a few days.

muminaquandary · 15/06/2006 10:27

Norms - thanks, I am really pleased about it. I am a fairly stiocal type, so it was quite nice to have the decision taken out of my hands, as it were, otherwise I'd have been there saying, oh, it wasn't that bad last time - nobody died - worse things happen at sea, ho ho ho.

muminaquandary · 15/06/2006 10:27

Maybe stoical. Not sure what a stioc might be.

mabel1973 · 15/06/2006 10:39

Hi all

hope everyone's ok today
Mandaz - agree with liquid - I was always told by my last midwife (not this one she's useless) that if you are at all worried about anything to do with the baby and you can't get hold of your midwife, then contact the delivery suite - they can scan you and check things are ok. I did it with DS when he stopped moving and it was a sunday night so my midwife was off duty. They have a 'better safe then sorry' attitude and would much rather you went in to be checked and found out it was nothing than sit and worry at home. As for your doctors I am not sure what they think constitutes an emergency but really you should get preference over some old goat moaning about his piles!

I am getting myself in a stew over my MIL, she has already started dishing out the unwanted advice, she said to me the other day that maybe this time round i wouldn't have the feeding problems I had last time - what she means by that is that she didn't approve of the fact that I gave DS a few bottles of formula while my milk supply was still establishing and commented that we shouldn't be giving him cows milk!!!! Anyone would think I'd opened a bottle of gold top for him! What does she think people who bottle feed do - I was bottle fed and I'm still here!!!! GRRRRR!!!! Angry

Normsnockers · 15/06/2006 10:54

Mabel,

You could just nod and mumble that "I'll cross that bridge when I get to it but it's best to keep an open mind about everything initially"

My SIL (MIL'S own daughter) does everything "right" but fortunately my MIL has stayed away from me since her less than successful visit when my HG was at is worst and she implied that I wasn't ill and ds was being neglected. I'm kind of hoping that this distance will continue !

clairemow · 15/06/2006 11:07

Feel for you all with these MILs. Sadly, I don't have one to worry about - although I did know her, and I'm sure she would have been fab.

Muminaquandry - don't leave us!! We don't mind if you're the end of August - I will be the same if I go for the elective c-section.

Saw midwife this morning too (obviously a day for it) and asked about Braxton Hicks - she said that second time round they do tend to feel stronger and earlier, as you know what it is you're feeling. So was reassured. She said my blood pressure was 'excellent' - 110/60 - so compo, you should be really delighted with yours going down so well! BB is obviously good for you...

Bella23 · 15/06/2006 11:11

Mabel - oh dear sorry to hear MIL is being a terror! Have to say mine is lovely.

Talking of BH - can you second timers tell me what they feel like? Sorry its just I get paranoid at every ache and twinge. Any way of describing them?

compo · 15/06/2006 12:02

lol Normsnockers - at least BB is good for letting us put our feet up Grin Althogh I do find myself unable to sleep after watching it as some of the things they do go round and round my head!!
Muminaquandary - another plea to stay with us!! How exciting to know exactly when your lo will be here - I am very envious!
Norms - I would definitely get the huggies bag even if you already have it. You may as well get all the freebies you can Smile
