i'm pretty sure we would have a good case for shooting them and getting away with it and pmsl at the one legged raindance! dh is on a corporate golf day today so got picked up late this morning - instead of looking after me he had me running around like a mad thing making him lattes and what not!

at least it's not as hot today!!!! and was raining half the night so the window boxes aren't looking so dead Smile

cori you poor thing - agree with the others, breakthrough moment, and of course dh would think the funny side is amusing!

had the shopping delivered last night, and i'm sure there's some family in our area wondering where their 2 packs of snack sized magnums got to - they got given to us in error Blush but i didn't realise till after the man had gone!

mabel1973 · 13/06/2006 12:37

HI all

hope everyones ok.
I had a bad nights sleep last night - woke up for a wee then couldn't get back to sleep then the birds woke DS up at about 4am and he took an hour to go back to sleep!

Honestly Lysettes - shame on you for not owning up to those Magnums straight away!! Wink

Went to see my niece on sunday - forgot how teeeny tiny they are and she ws 8lb 2oz so not a bad weight! Had to remember how to hold her and suppport her head. She seemed quite content anyway - although i think my brother is still shell shocked bless him!

homemama · 13/06/2006 15:10

Hi everyone, thank goodness the heat has broken a little. I just couldn't sleep at all last night.

Cori, I had to laugh at your DD. Finally finding the words to explain must have made her feel so relieved. Don't be too hard on yourself, we've all done it. I'm sure you read my post a couple of wks ago were I woke to find DS soaking wet and v. flushed having slept in his grobag and under our duvet. Blush It's a good job they have short memories at this age. Grin

Muminaquandary, finding out about your helping hand in tescos has restored my faith. It's nice to hear that some people do understand.

Norms, big, heavy sash windows remind me of DH and my first house together. Teeny weeny house with beautiful big windows. Seems like another life now. What did we do with our time? (and money)

It's just started to rain and thunder here so hopefully we'll all sleep better tonight.

Thank you all for making me feel better after my fainting spell yesterday. The nurse checked my BP this morning and it's at the low end of normal so not a huge worry but coupled with yesterday's heat I should have stayed indoors.

homemama · 13/06/2006 15:16

Mabel, I picked up a new baby at toddler group last wk and nearly threw her over my shoulder as she was so light and I was used to picking up DS.

I'm getting excited about my new little person. Smile

Marls001 · 13/06/2006 16:04

LOL Muminaquandary!

MIL gave me a present today - turq. & coral bead jewelry from the Indian pueblos, very cool. Smile Have had so much going on, I forgot - it'll be my 37th birthday Friday! U.S.'s Father's Day is this weekend too ...

Everyone is always asking how I am feeling these days ... my response is always "great!" ... but I do hope they'll be asking after the baby is born. Grin

Re: air conditioning, is there a reason why houses don't have window units at least (if can't be fully outfitted)? Are they terribly expensive? Please forgive my ignorance Blush

Coriander73 · 13/06/2006 16:43

Hi again,

Marls, we just don't do aircon in houses....it's never hot enough for long so in the long run wouldn't make financial sense....us English ladies will have to make do with taking portable fans from room to room whilst we're in the grips of a heatwave. Incidently it rained here in Suffolk this morning & was lovely & fresh but it's since got extremely muggy again....pfffff

Mabel, a friend of mine had her second daughter a month ago. Popped over when she was about 5 days old & I couldn't quite believe how tiny she was! I picked her up & almost felt I didn't know what to do with her..she was a light as a feather & felt scared that I'd drop her...how silly is that?!!!!!

Just been for MW check. Got a little tearful today as although 99.9% decided on a vbac, there is part of me that's unsure. She couldn't really say much except the decision is mine ultimatley unless baby is breech or the scar is looking dodgy. Also now with the confirmed PS (bloody painful.,..honestly it's all happening this pg!!) the decison may be taken for me...depending on the pain nearer the time etc. She measured me & said I was 1cm bigger for the time...so I'm 27 weeks on Friday & measuring 28cm...didn't know whether that was anything to worry about?? She did say it's not all baby so she didn't think at this stage it's going to be "big".......interestingly she did say boys generally are bigger so maybe that's a clue?!!! I said we both really want another daughter but I got the look & a cold reponse of "the most important thing is it arrives safely" well, hell I know that of course just if we could chose that's all!!!!! :o :o

September mums to be - advice needed! hi not sure if this is the right place to post this query, but i am due in mid september with my first baby and i was wondering when i should finish work? i originally thought 3 weeks before, i then decided 4 would be better, and now am thinking 6! this is mostly because at my check up today my blood pressure was alot higher than usual and its summer time and i'm thinking those last 6 weeks could be hard work in the heat (maybe wishful thinking), not sure how big i will get (although been bigger than average whole way through) will i be able to get behind the steering wheel?! thanks in advance

Coriander73 · 13/06/2006 19:32

RMW2...for what it's worth I finished 4 weeks before last time but this time I'l be finishing 6 weeks before edd. The reason for this is that I know hot & bothered I was a month before etc but moreover I want to spend some time with dd before new arrival! At the end of the day if you are feeling OK & depending on how much maternity leave you get you may want to leave it as late as you can. Either way, just look after yourself!!

OP posts:
compo · 13/06/2006 19:36

I finished 4 weeks before with ds. I think 4 weeks is enough really unless you have health problems. If you go overdue you could end up having 6 weeks before the baby arrives and you'll get bored waiting for the lo to come!!

Lysettes · 13/06/2006 20:24

RMW2 welcome and re giving up work early to do with high blood pressure - i've actually been signed off work since the start of May with very high blood pressure (keeps going up to 180/110).

If you're signed off work for any pregnancy related reason, and you are getting SMP, then your OML will kick in automatically on the sunday before your 36th week - so I'm due on 6th september, and my mat leave automatically starts on sunday 6th (i think) of august.

It's a really cheeky way of looking at it, but working on the way that we all want to maximise our time after the birth, it's best to talk to your GP or MW / consultant and see whether they will sign you off on medical grounds if need be - then your maternity leave will start 4 weeks and a couple of days before.

I wouldn't tell work you are going to start any more in advance than this, as you may indeed feel fine and cope ok - and it might rain all summer from next week Grin

sorry long reply, but hope it helps!

Lysettes · 13/06/2006 20:34

also, and this is really sad I know Blush have just been having a peak at the due in july thread, and someone has posted on there about remembering pelvic floor exercises - are we all remembering ladies???

I know I am, but only intermittently......

lol
xxx

Lysettes · 13/06/2006 20:39

and last post of the day i promise - is anyone else getting really breathless?

and lo i think is kicking me in the ribs - I keep getting "pain" like i'm slightly winded - anyone get this?

liquidclocks · 13/06/2006 20:51

Hi RMW2 and welcome!

I'd have to agree with Lysettes. I'd (given a choice)plan to stop work 4 weeks before due date. Given that it's nice to have as much time as possible with LO when it arrives I think it's a nice compromise. Also though remember this is the last time you'll have child-free so make the most of it! Visit friends, go shoppping, cinema, chill out in the bath...It'll never be quite so easy again! With DS (19 months now) I was signed off from 3 months and was BORED!!! This time I've told work I'll stay until my due date as I'm only in 2 days a week and it's easier than running around after a toddler :o

Took the E3 out for a spin with DS today - very impressed, compared with my maclaren for manouverability and much easier to push, though maclaren will still come out for round the shops :) - I still have my retail urges though, cute newborn clothes next!

clairemow · 13/06/2006 20:52

Oh god, pelvic floors. I remember about once a week... Am I going to need tenalady things once I've had no. 2???!!! Aargh! very sexy (not).

Marls, happy birthday for Friday, and thanks for the advice re. VBAC/ 2nd section - it's interesting to hear what is advised in other countries.

Cori, love the teeth story, and also think this was a breakthrough for communication.. I can also understand why you were fed up - in this heat, by 7pm I'm just dying for DS to go to bed...

RMW2, hi, and re. maternity leave - if your blood pressure is high, maybe it would be good to take extra leave. It will be the last time ever that you only have yourself to think about... Do you have any holiday owing that you could take to tack on the front of mat leave? That would give you extra off. Last time I took 6 weeks, but ended up with only 4 as DS was early. But I knew I wasn't going back to that job, so it didn't really matter (funnily enough I have ended up working part time for the same firm, but in a totally different capacity). You just need to do whatever is going to help you and your baby keep as healthy as possible, so maybe you should talk to your midwife/doctor about the blood pressure and how much a problem it could be. I guess if your job is stressful, then that might be a factor in stopping earlier as well.

We have had a much cooler day here in the West Country today, complete with lots of rain at about lunchtime, which felt like a real relief. I'm hoping tonight will be much fresher again.

liquidclocks · 13/06/2006 20:56

Lysettes - I had almost constant pain under my ribs from around 26 weeks with DS. The midwife said it was my ribs stretching but that was no consolation - sorry! However - DO tell your midwife as there's a little part of my mind that's being reminded of something I read about rib pain and BP so given your situation it's probably worth mentioning. Hope it subsides.

pol26 · 13/06/2006 22:28

Hoooooooorah!!!!! We have a cooler night and a big storm which made DD hysterical as it was so close set off three car alarms on our street and mindee was terrified too. Didn't help that made me about jump out of myskin- i'm sure it's the fastest i've ever moved since i've been preg! But now it's really rain at last the air is cooler and more bearable. Last night was so so hot that I hardly got any sleep.
I had OFSTED today looking into my childminding- my first inspection and all went well! Yeah!!! And gave mindee notice of four weeks, by then I will be 30 weeks and so I feel it's time to call it a day for a while. Mum and Dad weren't too pleased but my bubba and my health are more important now, plus as i've said before DD needs me before bubba is born.
Did I say we have decided on Ben(jamin) as his name...? Well, we have and Geoffrey as his middle name, after my mums dad. It's a little morbid family tradition, someone dies and the next same sexed bubba has some sort of name from them.
And DD learned a new word today 'bubble'... awww she sounds so sweet!
Hope everyone else is enjoying the cooler weather... and enjoying or avoididng the world cup!

Hi everyone. Pol26 - why weren't your parents pleased about your decision to stop work when you like? Such interference... it would make me mad mad mad Grin
I've got a contstant ache under my right rib. I had it with ds from now until the head engaged. It is only helped when I lie down. I went out on Monday with a couple of friends and we were sitting in the pub garden on a bench. I just couldn't get comfy and was glad when we left so I could come home, lie on the sofa and watch Big Brother (glad to see Normsnockers is enjoying it as much as me!!)

compo · 14/06/2006 11:26

p.s. Love the name Ben(jamin) Might have called ds that but dh vetoe it because we have a friend called Ben

clairemow · 14/06/2006 12:20

Marls, I did laugh at old being before 1940. Never owned a house newer than that!! (1903 and now 1936). Mind you, cotton and oil must be better than slavery, which Bristol money all seems to have been founded on... Cotton and slaves a whole other topic.. I digress.

Compo, poor you with the right rib. I seem to have a head/bottom sticking out under mine as well. Feels v. hard (baby) and tender (me).

Pol, well done on the inspection. Also don't understand why your mum and dad aren't pleased about when you're stopping work??

Also had a big storm at about 5 o'clock Tues am. Somehow DS slept right through it, even with all windows open. I didn't... Today it's actually quite cold, and I put a jumper on earlier!

puppy · 14/06/2006 12:59

hi all Smile

Homemama i am appalled that no one helped you when you fainted, glad your feeling better now.

I am useless at remembering to do pelvic floor exercises [blushes]

marls incase i'm not on by friday have a good birthday Smile

Pol26 benjamin is a lovely name, if your ready to finish work then do so, well done on your inspection what grade did you get?, I had mine last october and got a good i was terrified beforehand. which reminds me I had better contact ofsted to let them know about the baby as the numbers on the registration certifacte will need to be adjusted.

I am really enoying the cooler weather today, its raining but i don't mind the temp here is 15c lovely.

Had my consultants appointment and all went well, they want to see me again in 8 weeks. I mentioned the pelvic pain I am experiencing and they have referred me to physio.

Saw a 2 week old baby yesterday with a gorgeous head of thick black hair - adorable

13weeks and 4 days to due date, 7 weeks to work Grin ( not as if I am counting down Grin )

calvemjoe · 14/06/2006 13:36

Isn't it a horrible day Grin. The shrek feet are gone, ds's excema has gone down and I have energy again. As for maternity leave, mine starts the day before my due date but I've got August off cause I have to use up my holiday before December and I don't think I could cope working right up to my due date.

Puppy, lol, I've got 13 shifts left at work and i'm crossing the days off my calender whenever I work (have been doing since 20 shifts).

Lysettes Blush I never remember to do my pelvic floor excercises, do you think boots do double points on tena lady?

mandaz · 14/06/2006 13:49

I need some advice today please. Over the last few days I've been getting a pain in my tummy, to the right of my belly button but about that level. It's too high to be a urine infection and too low to be ribs moving. Thing is it's really really sore and it's getting worse. It feels like bruising on the inside but it's getting to the point where it brings tears to my eyes every time I sit down. I really don't know what it could be. I have a midwife appointment next week but I don't know if it's bad enough to go to the doctors with in the meantime. Does anyone have any idea what it could be and whether I should get it checked out sooner than next week?

Marls - Thanks for the post, that must be really hard for you. I know that we'll be better off without ex-hubby but what worries me is that he won't stick to his word and will drift in and out of our lives. All I can do is wait and see.

Homemamma - I agree with everyone else - it's awful that nobody helped you. I hope that you've been ok since then.

clairemow · 14/06/2006 14:33

Mandaz, if I were you and I was worried, I would go straight to the doctor. If it's nothing, it will put your mind at rest, and none of us need stress right now. If it's something, then the earlier it's dealt with, the better. Good luck and let us know how you are. xx
