Homemama – Go for it. You can always cut back again if it doesn’t work after a while. Better sooner than later, I think. My almost-3 DS isn’t as flexible or easygoing (in general) as he was when 1.5.

Liquid – LOL on your craving! Grin

Manda – Strange question I know, but do you have air conditioning (for at night)? Can’t imagine life here without it, especially now.

Compo – Will begin soon with every two weeks, here. Then in August, I think, it’ll be every week.

Claire – So sorry about migraines. I have them fairly regularly (when not pregnant), and there’s nothing worse. Somehow both pregnancies have taken them (yay!) from me.

Found out today in the gym that yesterday when I was there the local high school football coach and his wife approached the management desk to let them know there was a pregnant woman (me) lifting weights, & they were concerned. I’m surprised and saddened people don’t know that with a healthy pregnancy the fact that I’m in there is a triumph, not a risk. I’ll be doing my routine on a regular basis until due date, so thinking about leaving some info on benefits of exercise while pg, just in case anyone else not up-to-date is “concerned.” Not really worth venting … but wish he’d approached me instead of the front desk.

Bella23 · 09/06/2006 09:04

Mandaz - I am originally a yorkshire lass, been down in London for 12 years but not lost my roots!!Grin I still go back to visit the folks.

Marls - gosh that's a bit over the top in the gym. What did the people expect? A siren to go off and you get marched out the gym for being a fruit cake?! Hat off to you as even the mere thought of excercise makes me want to curl up! Watering the garden by watering can due to hose pipe ban is enough excercise for me at the moment.

Claire - sorry to hear about the migraines. Have you tried those forehead thingys that are advertised on TV?

Lysettes - I have always had a sweet tooth but with pregnancy this has increased so I have to have a treat every day - I am thinking ice-cream today seeing as its so hot already.

Well best crack on with some work. I have a lovely weekend planned of visiting friends whilst poor DH is going to be spending it painting 2 rooms. Am now starting to see the real perks of being pregnant!!Grin

compo · 09/06/2006 09:23

Morning everyone - another beautiful day Smile Tried on a pair of maternity jeans I got from Dotty P's this morning that I've hardly worn and they don't fit at all now Shock Blush Might pack them into my hospital bag at a later date as I should be able to get into them after the birth! Need to get some use out of them - lol
I've done a search on KreamKrackers and she hasn't posted since 30th march before her 20 week scan. I know she wasn't very well and her dd wasn't either so really hope she's doing okay....

Coriander73 · 09/06/2006 10:04

Compo, I ordered some jeans & cropped trouseurs from Crave & they arrived today....the jeans are too small!!!! I ordered a size 14 as normally a 12ish but they just wouldn't get past my thighs..how depressing is that?!! DH thought it was very funny Angry. As for the cropped pair, well they sit right under the bump (which wasn't obvious from the catalogue) & it's really bothering me...not as comfortable as I'd expected! I kept them on today as I don't have anything else to wear but maybe I should have sent them back too...oh well.

KreamKrackers...where are you?????!!!!!!!

OP posts:
mabel1973 · 09/06/2006 11:00

Marls am Shock !!! Do people not realise that being pregnant is not an illness - good on you for keeping at it girl!

Hope KK is ok.

So does anyone have any plans for watching the footie tommmrow?
We are going to my mums - I don't mind watching it and DS is just starting to get into it, so he can watch it with my dad and DH and feel like a big boy!

Ds pooed on our bedroom carpet this morning (my fault he'd been running round with no clothes on since his breakfast so I knew a poo was on the way). I promptly picked him up and popped his bum on his potty. He just stood up and threw the potty in the bath - oh well!

Normsnockers · 09/06/2006 11:32

Boy the heat yesterday made my feet swell up a bit. I plonked them in ds's tepid bath water last night to try and cool them down and he thought it was very funny. Have had to promise to "get in the bath with him" again tonight.

Late in my last pregnancy my midwife was constantly on the lookout for swollen ankles. Makes me wonder how will they distinguish between hot weather, been standing/sitting upright all day type swelling and swelling as a
symptom of something else.

I was wondering about Kreamkrackers too, I do hope she is O.K.

Did you decide to give potty training a go Homemama ? It's ideal weather for it at the moment.

Hope everyone is O.K. despite aches and pains. I am getting lazier as my bump grows and need to find a maternity skirt and possibly some shorts too if this weather is going to last.
Unfortunately just as I am getting lazier dh is thinking that his desire to watch as much of the football world cup as possible is a basic human right which I would be being mean to deny him. It's the same with most major sporting events though so I am pretty hardened to it.

muminaquandary · 09/06/2006 11:36

hello everyone & glad most of you are enjoying the heat ... just to SPD poster, I received a pack of info on it as 3rd time am suffering from it so have got myself sorted with physio v quickly, but here is some of the info my NHS trust give re exercise etc:

  • keep legs together
  • keep body symmetrical when stand sit etc
  • Avoid twsiting the body
  • avoid lifting, squatting, crossing your legs, sitting or standing for long, walking long distances
  • sit down to dress lower half
  • use slip mat in bath & shower (V useful I can't get out of bath safely at the moment Sad)
  • wear low heels & shock absorbing footwear
  • carry shopping equally in each hand & babies in front of you. Encourage older children to come to you for cuddles rather than picking them up
  • Rest, take weight off your pelvis, lie down (with pillows to support bump & legs)
  • avoid frequent trips up and down stairs

HTH

appyday · 09/06/2006 12:08

Homemama-DD started running round nappyless from around 18m, she soon grasped the potty idea and now goes without telling us, obviously there is the occassional accident, but with a bare bum she's pretty good. The only problem we have is when she has big girl's pants on she can't grasp that they are not nappies and wees in them - every time.Think it might be a ploy to never wear clothes, but don't blame her in this weather.
Is everyone coping in this prolonged heatwave? I have taken the last 3 days off work with quite surreal dizzy spells, so annoying to sit and look at the sunshine from in the house.
Also my one craving from last pg has kicked in again-sniffing teabags (unused ones),had to confess to DH last time when he found bits of tea on my faceBlush.
Have a great weekend to all.

clairemow · 09/06/2006 13:14

We've had DS nappyless in the garden too. He does say when he's about to wee, but will he sit on the potty? No. He'll crouch behind a tree to do a poo, but put the potty anywhere near and there's nearly a revolution. So we're not there yet...!!

Like the sniffing teabags thing - that's a new one for me - might go and try it!!

homemama · 09/06/2006 13:17

Nothing to report here!
Thanks for all youradvice! If I'm honest, I'm probably feeling too lazy in this heat to potty train. If he continues to show awareness then I know it's only fair to start but I was hoping to get the new baby in a routine first. Why can't he be advanced in something easy like talking or making his own lunch! Grin

Hope you are all well. Hope we hear from KK and others soon.

Angeliz · 09/06/2006 13:44

I hope KK is o.k too.
For those of you asking about maternity gear, H+M have some lovely summer stock in now. Cropped jeans are absolutely fab. I am short so usually avoid cropped but they are so comfy and dead fashionable too, not frumpySmile

Angeliz · 09/06/2006 13:45

Think dd2 (15 months) wants to be potty trained too as she has a fascination with dd1's knicker drawer. She was walking round yesterday in trousers with knickers on top (like SupermanGrin )

pol26 · 09/06/2006 14:13

Sorry I haven't been around for a nwhile ladies but finding everything too hot and too much trouble at the mo.
Have nearly decided to give up my mindee as so knackered and feeling for my DD1 as she needs to have time with me before bubba arrives...
Had our second scan at practically 24 weeks and it's a boy!!! Yeah! Not that I was bothered really either way but now have been buying baby clothes like mad and getting all blue stuff- lets just hope she was right now!
Also packaged up all the girls clothes we had and sold them all on ebay except my 6-12 month bundle. Felt really sad that they were going and kept a few bits back to put in DD1 box.
DP is sooooo glad it's a boy and so is his mum GRRR!!! I am hoping that she won't shove DD out now as she loves boys much more than girls and even admits to it! I am trying to shower DD with praise and treats to make her feel ok... /also been a brought her two pressies from baby for her and other way round too- got her a cute lil' tee saying i'm the big sister and got bubba i'm the little brother sleepsuit. She has also brought him and blue west ham teddy- well DP convinced her into that. Just don't want to feel she is upset by it all with me feeling knackered all the time and everyone fussing for the new baby while she is left out. Don't want her routine going to pot either as she is soooo good.
Sorry to witter on.
Glad you're all ok, apart from the heat!!!

mabel1973 · 09/06/2006 15:33

pol - love the idea of big sis / little bro t-shirst - where did you get them from?

Ds has been running round naken practically all day. We came inside for a bit to get out of the heat and he suddenly got really whiney and was asking to go outside, when I let him go out he promptly weed on the back door step - maybe he is more aware than I am giving him credit for - still can't see potty trainng happening before lo arrives though.

I was chatting to a frined of mine the other day and we were laughing about 'things you never thought you'd hear yourself say' til you had a toddler. Mine this morning was ' please can you stop putting your maraca in the cat's biscuits....!'

homemama · 09/06/2006 16:01

Lol Mabel, that reminds me of when someone told me, you know you have a son when you utter those immortal words, 'put that big stick down!' DS is 18mths and I've already said it many times. It especially makes me laugh because DH still has to be told the same thing every time we go walking in the woods. Grin

clairemow · 09/06/2006 19:27

he he. Had to tell DS this morning to "take your tongue off the counter" in the cafe round the corner. Never thought I'd say that one!

I'm not sure whether it's the heat or the pregnancy that's making me so knackered, or a combiniation - feel like sleeping all the time, but when I go to bed at night I can't sleep - too uncomfortable with massive bump to negotiate, too hot, etc. etc. Stood for ages today with my feet in DS' paddling pool, that was lovely. And DH went and bought strawberries and cream haagen daaz. Recommend it..

mabel1973 · 09/06/2006 19:53

mmmm strawberries and cream haagan daaz!!! like the sound of that!
we've just fired up the barbe! Yum!

clairemow · 09/06/2006 19:54

was yummy. going to eat the rest later tonight...

liquidclocks · 09/06/2006 20:31

Heat + pregnancy = ability to do nothing useful!

Have been just about managing to carry DS upstairs once a day for nap then having to sit down and recover for 10 mins - forgot how useless heat make me in pregnancy - shouldn't complain though, have a fantastic tan for first time in 3 yrs!

Clairemow - feel for you on the migraine issue, I've had loads this pg and not pleasant at all. If they start to interfere with daily life so much that you can't function or they're making you miserable it is OK to take immigran in pregnancy where 'the benefit outweighs the risk'. There have been lots of retrospective studies on babies who's mums took it and they found no evidence of problems but as I'm sure you know, no drug company will ever say anything's safe in case they get sued. However, it is preferable to taking constant paracetamol or co-codamol - have a chat with your GP first of course. I take about 1 a week and it's a lifesaver.

Now I've definitely decided on the phil and teds, have found it inc doubles kit, cocoon and storm cover for £360 - anyone found it cheaper???

Marls001 · 09/06/2006 20:48

Mabel – LOL about the poo, even though I’m sure that was a pain to clean!!

Potty training does seem to take forever, doesn’t it? We’ve regressed from cotton "big boy” pants to Pull-Ups (which are like diapers, but leakier and more expensive – meant to let them feel the wet). Had a book group last night with 4 moms of teenagers & each said there was a point where their DS’s & DD’s just took to the toilet all at once; within a few days they just suddenly “got” it. Sounded good; hope their memories aren’t faulty …

Applyday, Grin LOL your craving’s not fattening at least! DS2 is seriously kicking as I type, since just had about a pint of cookie dough ice cream Blush

Pol – Can’t believe your MIL would say she likes boys better! Shock You're right to be proactive with DD, help ease the transition.

My MIL is on her way … will be staying the weekend. Smile

LOL Homemama “put that big stick down” --- have said it to DS many times!! Took a video of him last weekend when he ran through his entire repertoire of songs (twinkle twinkle little star, ABC song, etc.) then ended with: “Do you smell something? … I smell poop! … I think you need to change me!” The camera was shaking I was laughing so hard.

liquidclocks · 09/06/2006 21:19

Things I thought I'd never say (and only the things from this week!):

"Stop licking the radiator"

"Stop rubbing that (wet) stone on your chin"

"Stop licking the bin"

Must some 19 month old oral thing going on at the moment...

Well, after offering to make tea at 7.30, DH said "no - I'll make tea" - 'ahh', I thought, 'how nice!'. Now at 9.30 he's just pulled a mouldy jar of hot dogs (for which there are no buns anyway) from the cupboard and is having a hard time understanding why I've just raided DS's fish fingers and chips from the freezer... Men!!!

Marls001 · 10/06/2006 08:08

This will actually register as a normal hour of the morning to you all but I am up at 2am with some of the worst acid reflux I think I have ever had in my entire life. Luckily tomorrow is my day to sleep in!! And maybe MIL can take DS on Sunday ... Can't believe how bad this is tonight; can barely breathe. Going to try and sleep again ...

muminaquandary · 10/06/2006 10:40

liquidclocks - where did you find phil & ted's at that price? have found it on groovystyle for £339 (with dble seat and cocoon), local Nippers for £355 (without cocoon).

enjoying that heat! DS has been naked since sunrise & now we just need to put the paddling pool in the living room for watching the footie this afternoon ...... Grin

homemama · 10/06/2006 13:51

Mothercare were the cheapest we found for P&T.

We are still struggling with names. Maybe after the rescan next week we will feel more able to come to a decision.

Hope you're feeling better, Marls.

Enjoy the sun and the football.

liquidclocks · 10/06/2006 13:59

Don't know if I'm really supposed to advertise on mumsnet but hey, we're all for saving money! The Phil and Teds I found is at a shop in Preston, Lancashire called 'Nursery Time' and they do it for £359.10 inc. the raincover, doubles kit and cocoon if you pay in full on ordering. The only thing is that I don't think they'd deliver but you could try. They have a shop near Nelson too I think - both listed on \link{http://www.babystyle.co.uk/Map/list-north.htm\this site}

Also, last night, DH did make amends by going out to sainsburys to get more hot dogs and buns - must have made him feel a bit guilty. Shouldn't complain about him too much, he's a great daddy and does all his own ironing... :)
