hi all,

Thanks for the info on grobags will definately purchase one.

As for the movements I too am having the alien type movement and definate punches/kicks, I love this stage remember it when i was pg with ds I used to try and grab his foot when I were further along lol.

How is everybody coping with the heat? I have been doing well till I was giving ds his bath and felt like I were going to pass out.

No cravings here, but I am emtying a packet of yorkshire mix yum yum.

Can anybody tell me what spd is like? did not have it with ds, my symptoms are that when I get up after periods of sitting down or lying and I get up between my legs (feels like pelvis floor) are painful but eases the more I walk, bit like arthritis iykwim. I did mention it to my midwife a couple of weeks ago and she is going to assess me next time I see her. It also sometimes hurts when I turn over inbed and I get the odd shooting pain from my hip down my thigh.

Marls001 · 07/06/2006 20:48

Hi all!

Compo – I’m with you on that; we’ll probably wait until after the baby comes to move DS … currently in a tent-covered crib! He can’t get out at all. That’s the way I like it, so am reluctant to move him … but heartening to see the good stories about move to “big kid bed”.

TopBanana - Still cookie dough. Sometimes still nauseated too, and that’s (unbelievably) the only “cure”! Grin Otherwise, just eating an inordinate amount of food. I can really put it away! Grin

Can't wait for those BIG alien movements, so DS can get the concept more that there's actually a baby in there.

curlygirl · 08/06/2006 01:11

Hi all, sorry I haven't posted for ages, selling our house so It has been v. busy time. I'm glad you are talking about moving into big bed. My dd is 18 months old, so we thought we would leave her in her cotbed until baby is 6 months old and out of moses basket then buy her a bed and baby could have the cotbed. This seemed ok, decided to try to change her bedding from grobag to duvet now, but she is totally freaked out by the duvet and pillow for some reason - anyone else had this problem? She will need to change soon because she is getting too long for the grobag although it is meant to be for up to 36 months. She happily gets in our bed under the duvet by the way! I have a v. awkward child I think!

Bella23 · 08/06/2006 09:50

Morning ladies
Gosh its hot today, really struggled getting to work this morning on the bus and had to stand for ages (carrying laptop rucksack as well)
Lots of people just ignored me until a very kind foreign lady offered me her seat. I don't think I've ever been offered a seat by a man and trust me I don't look perhaps a bit fat I look definately pregnant!!
Sorry rant over just feeling a bit flustered.

Marls - am with you on the sheer volume of food I can put away!! I am now addicted to mini milk ice-creams and managed to eat 4 yesterday!!Blush

Well best crack on with some work.........hope you are all keeping cool in the heat

mabel1973 · 08/06/2006 11:36

Hi all!

what a fantastic day agin. I am going to attempt a trip to the library this afternoon and also pick up my iron tablets from the chemists - prob about a 2 mile round trip - hopefuly I'll make it!
Really gave myself a knock in the bump last night. I was carrying a basket of washing down stairs and didn't lift the basket high enough over the stair gate and just caught it so that the edge of the basket went straight in to my bump. Felt lots of movements since - but still feeling a bit bruised.
Curly girl - don't what to say about your DD - if it was winter i'd say try her with a grobag and a duvet, but not in this weather! Maybe lay her on top of the duvet? To be honest that's how DS is sleeping anyway at the mo because it's so warm.
Puppy - don't know what SPD is like, but the shooting pain you are getting sounds a bit like sciatica - although mine is in my lower back and down my bum on one side.
Yor midwife will be able to tell you and refer you to see someone about it.

mabel1973 · 08/06/2006 11:39

oh bella Angry !!
You are not the only one not to have a seat offered though - fortunately I don't have to travel that much, but no-ones offered me a seat either when I have. It's very sad I think.

compo · 08/06/2006 13:00

Hi everyone. Been to see the midwife today and finally got my Mat B1 form. They want to see me every 3 weeks from now on - anyone else had this? It's such a pain going all the way to the hospital with ds (I don't drive) for a 10 minute appointment!!

Bella23 · 08/06/2006 13:34

Compo - I wonder why every 3 weeks? I think I just see mine every 4 for a while now and then near the end its every 2 weeks.

Mabel - a 2 mile round trip in this heat might finish you off so be careful!

Well have just pigged out for lunch and am now feeling really bloated - so why do I fancy a biscuit as well??!! I am such a fat wader!!!

homemama · 08/06/2006 13:38

Hi everyone,
Puppy, I had SPD last time from about 25wks until about 32wks and it felt just like you describe. The more exercise I did, esp walking, the better it felt although when you first try to sit up the pain is awful. I'm not sure why it went, as the mw had warned me that it may still be there for a while even after DS was born, but I was glad of the relief! Starting to get it again although doesn't seem as bad this time. Perhaps it's because we now live somewhere quite rural and I do loads of walking every day.

Compo, why do you have to go to the hospital for every ante natal? Don't you have community mw's at your Dr surgery?

Does anyone know anything about potty training? I would have thought that at 18mths DS would be way too young to start and I was thinking we'd have a go around march when he was 2 and a bit. However, he is now saying 'poooo' when he has a dirty nappy and literally dragging me upstairs to change his bum. We've also noticed that when he has no nappy on in the evening, he grabs himself just before he starts to wee. Are these signs that he is ready cause I don't think I could cope with it just yet. Grin Blush If I leave him am I being a cruel mum? That's a genuine question BTW

Angeliz · 08/06/2006 13:40

Hi everyone.
hope you're all doing wellSmile
Sorry i'm never on here at the moment, when i am it's usually a thread about something else as i seemed to have turned into such a mega wirrier this pregnancy! (Not about the pregnancy, that's fine)
Off to see the midwife in a bit. Have to see the G.P too to gt a letter saying i can fly as we're going to Spain next week. YEAH! Can't wait, It's our first time abroad with the girls (they've flown before Irealnd/London but not abroad.) So we've hired a private villa with pool for a week. we are in the middle of doing our kitchen out completely too so it will be nice to get away from it all.

Cravings?
Well the other day i went mad on...........COKE!!!! that is not me at all, don't really like fizzy drinks but had to have it! Had to hise it from dd1Grin

homemama · 08/06/2006 13:40

Lol at 'fat wader' Bella! Grin
Did you read my post about eating an entire box of flake cakes! Blush

homemama · 08/06/2006 13:41

Enjoy your holiday, Angeliz! Smile

Angeliz · 08/06/2006 13:43

Thanks homemamaSmile
DD1 is more worried about anyone seeing my big belly in the maternity bikiniGrin. I said that we have our own house and she said 'but what if someone walks past?' pmsl!

Coriander73 · 08/06/2006 14:01

Homemama,

I'd say why not? Seems as though he's giving you all the signs & what's the worst that could happen... it doesn't fully work? But hey, it's summer so let him run around with no clothes on...just pulling up any rugs you may have lying around!!! Despite loating the woman, I did buy GF's Potty Training in a week yday!! Going to read it & then just go for it once on maternity leave come the 7th August...not that I'm counting HURRAH!!!!!!!! :o :o

DH bought me a tub of Green & Blacks Organic dark choc ice-cream yday....OH MY GOD..is all I can say....it was just orgasmic! Had to stop myself from eating the whole thing..through embarrasment rather than feeling piggy!!!....Really was just quite scrumptious!

Like you Topbanana, I haven't really had any cravings this time...with DD it was strawberries (a punet or two a day no less) & ice!!!!!!!!! There is still time for something to happen though but by this time with DD I was really on a mad strawberry everything vibe..:o

I'm getting excited now.....feeling the baby kick & just wondering how different in looks & personality they will be compared to DD :)

Normsnockers · 08/06/2006 14:06

Homemama, I can recommend Cod's potty training boot camp thread although 18 months does seem quite early. We moved ds (3.2) into pants at the beginning of May and he still has wee-wee accidents and even worse will only poo in his pants or night-time nappy at the moment!

Ds did tell us at just before the age of 2 when he was about to do a wee and we got very excited and put him on the toilet with special seat insert, he wee'd and we thought this is it, potty training from now on but it was a false dawn and we had several abortive attempts before going for it in May.

He still clutches his groin if he needs a wee though so your ds might just be an early starter.

I personally didn't find changing his nappies that much hassle so I waited until he really seemed ready and I'd stopped throwing up Grin.

liquidclocks · 08/06/2006 14:54

Afternoon everyone! I'd say give it a go homemama as long as your DS is happy - seems to be showing the signs to look out for in the GF books. Just stop if you think it's making him upset but hey - if it works - how great is that! Save you loads of nappy money! My DS is definitly nowhere near at 19 months.

Re changing from grobag to duvet, have now decided to get DS to have his lunch nap with a blanket and 'wean' him off the grobag over the summer - will let you ll know how it progresses. He's (supposedly) under an blanket now and I haven't heard a peep from him for 2hrs so am going to have to wake him, a good sign hopefully.

Weird craving of the week - ready made black roll out icing ???!!! Tell me what my body knows it needs from that!

Bella23 · 08/06/2006 14:57

Homemama - am very happy to hear that you managed to consume a whole packet, a girl after my own heart!Grin
I think years of denial are catching up with me

mandaz · 08/06/2006 15:36

Hi everyone. How's everyone doing with the heat? I'm finding it really hard, especially at night. I'm very pale so burn easily so I've been covered from head to toe in high factor sun cream for the past few days! I think I'm going to have to invest in one of those hand held fans as well as a bigger one for my bedroom!

I got a phone call from a company yesterday who told me that because I'd registered for a Bounty pack, i'd been given a 3 month free trial of accident insurance. She was just ringing to tell me what it covered and that if I didn't want to go ahead after the 3 month trial, I would have to ring THEM to cancel it! When I said I didn't want the free trial or the insurance she was really snotty. I don't remember signing anything to say I wanted it in the first place. Pregnant, overheated and having to speak to annoying sales people is definitely not a good combination Angry

I really haven't had any cravings yet. I've been having ice lollies quite a bit but I can't say I've been craving them. Perhaps it's all still to come.

Compo - I have to see my mw every 4 weeks at the moment and they run a session at my GP's on a Wednesday afternoon. I am on shared care with the hospital but now I've seen the consultant when I had my scan, i don't have to see her again until I go into labour as far as I know. It may be worth asking why you have to go in so often and if you can't go to your GP's instead due to the transport thing.

Coriander - Yorkshire Mix is boiled sweets, all different flavours. It's yummy! Are there many other Yorkshire lasses out there?

compo · 08/06/2006 16:31

Hi everyone. We used to have community midwives based in gp surgeries here when I was pregnant with ds. But then they cut lots of staff and based the midwives up at the hospital so everyone has to go up there to see them for antenatal appointments. I might aske next time at 3 weeks why I have to go every fortnight from the middle of August. At least they are keeping an eye on the lo though so don't want to complain too much!!!

Coriander73 · 08/06/2006 16:50

Mandaz...they sound just what I could do with to get the horrible metallic taste out of my mouth! It's not as bad as it was but it's still lingering & drives me insane at times! I have two very good Yorkshire friends, one from Leeds & one from Sheffield...don't get to see them much though but we always have a laugh.

I've got to see MW next week for yet more bloods (check on the old platlets)....& the week after for my anti-D...what joy what joy..:o After that I think I see her every two weeks...gosh where is the time going?!! I stop flying next week with my job...can't wait :o

Hi everyone!

Back from wiltshire and gloucestershire for our british driving summer holiday, as not allowed to go abroad - BIL likened it to having a football hooligans' banning order!!!

mandaz - am finding it difficult with the heat during the day, and have managed to get sunburn on my arms but nowhere else - and not both arms either - wierd!

I have to have all my anc appointments at the hospital, and all with the consultant, none with a midwife, so I have no idea who will be delivering lo - and I'm up there every 2 weeks now.

good news today is b pressure seems to be controlling itself and they're not admitting me again yet Grin Grin

got a cab to the hospital this aftenroon and the cab driver said "you're not going to have the baby in here are you???" of course he found that hilarious, but with 3 months to go you can imagine how amused i was!!!

I've got a real sweet tooth at the moment - went oujt for dinner last night and had apple crumble...night before was chocolate pudding for dessert and have a real thing for magnums as well Blush

topbanana - first driving lesson is next wednesday - it's a two week wait around here! can't believe it.

anyway, think this has got to be the longest post for ages, so sorry about that everyone.

off down to sussex tonight for a few days, so back on saturday - hope everyone stays well and keeps posting when they can!

and i heard the heat was set to last all june - anyone not getting offered a seat on the bus or tube - ask! i have heard it's very effective, if a little unnatural for us ladies who suffer in silence Smile

Lysettes · 08/06/2006 17:04

and of course, i forgot - the gaviscon cool tablets, peppermint flavour are great - youj can chew them really quickly and they really work

clairemow · 08/06/2006 18:28

Is the heat really going to last all June?! Wow. Makes amusing DS in the garden a whole lot easier. Get out a paddling pool (hope no hose pipe ban) and bob's your uncle.

Here we have most of our appointments with the midwife at the doc's surgery, so i've only been to the hospital twice, thank goodness. It must be a pain to have to go every time.

I've had coke cravings too - from the very start.

Main problem here is migraines. I don't get them normally, but in pregnancy have had a few, one yesterday afternoon - this morning - really awful in the heat with sickness and pounding head. Just going now, although probably should turn computer off.... Have a good evening all!!

mabel1973 · 08/06/2006 19:09

Homemama - I would give the potty training a go if he is showing signs, my DS is the same age, but other than waking up dry from his naps (which is supposed to be a sign of bladder control), he is not ready - I say to him 'have you done a poo' when he clearly has - no response. I honestly think he's quite happy in a pooey nappy!

I am seeing my midwife evry 2 weeks at the moment - I think that is partly because I had to have my bloods done as I thought I might be anaemic (I was), so she's doing bloods again in 2 weeks to check my irons back up and also because of my sciatica.
I see my MW at the surgery (unless she comes to me - which she has the last 2 times), and last time my appointments were a mixture of at the surgery and at the hospital - I think it might be to do with if you have midwife or consultant led care?
I managed my 2 mile walk - although my back is protesting now. I really want to keep active, I am sure it must be better for me.
